**Update 01/08/21** I'm upping my review after a great conversation with Audrey about the work Gringo's is putting into improving their curbside process. The food is 5 star Tex-Mex, and after our conversation, I'm confident that they'll have the to-go kinks worked out shortly.** First off, this review is strictly based on my experiences with the curbside service over the last several months. The food is and always has been excellent in my opinion, and I highly recommend it! We've had a "Gringo's Friday Fajitas" tradition for about the last 5 years here in Spring, and before that, 5 years in Pearland at the original Gringo's. We have pretty much ordered the same thing every week. I know there is a ton of turnover in a restaurant kitchen, that it is fast-paced, stressful, and often a thankless job. I also recognize that the lockdowns forced restaurants to really revamp and adapt how they did business to survive. There were hiccups with orders during the early phases of their reopening and the summer, but that's understandable as they worked to refine their curbside service. I'm only bringing up the most recent issues in this review. They seemed to have stabilized their take-out process, making one think that this is the level of service to be expected going forward. Three weeks ago, instead of beef fajitas for 3, chicken for 1, we got beef x2 and chicken x2, aggravating but certainly not the end of the world. We did not receive the extra half-pint of guacamole two weeks ago, which we order every week. Again, aggravating, especially paying for something and not receiving it. This Saturday (Fajita Friday's was pushed a day due to Christmas ), I got home, and despite ordering extra red and green sauce, there was absolutely none in the bag. For this, I drove back up to the restaurant, not to really complain but to get my red and green. Every time, I was ensured that they'd confirmed everything was in the bag. These three are just the most recent ones as we are consistently missing tortillas, queso, salsa, etc., from our order. Please understand that I have tried to bring up these issues before. I spoke to the take out manager about two months ago. I had joked to the young man bringing the food to the truck that I thought that bag looked a little small for all the food we'd ordered. He told me, "no, it's all there; two entrees can fit in this bag." While he ran the ticket, I double-checked, and sure enough, we were missing half the fajitas. I'm sure this makes me sound like a high maintenance customer, but that's really not the case. Most of the time, we shrug off the mistakes and try to enjoy our Friday evening. But I want my order right, and when it's confirmed that everything is there, then it should all be there. My wife tells me to go through the bag, and she's not wrong. However, going through a bag of containers in the truck at night is a pain and shouldn't be necessary. Lastly, I said that I knew this was a thankless part of a restaurant's operation (I washed dishes and prepped years ago in college), so I tip 20% every single time on the take-out side. I understand that their jobs are just as important as the waitstaff, but I don't know if I can continue to do that when I don't get the same service level. I enjoy not getting out of the truck, but it (and I hate to say this) was better when you had to go in and get your food. There you got that same type of service. They recognized the people that came in every week and went through everyone's order to confirm with you that everything ordered was in the bag. The food is great, and I highly recommend it. Jairo @Gringos is best server I have had the pleasure of encountering since I moved to Texas in 2012. Jairo's attention to every detail will leave you feeling as though he is only waiting on you. He will seamlessly manage the bar, wait on a regular (who prefers a table) and without skipping a beat....walk out to a car to assist a couple in for lunch. Fantastic service. Delicious, high quality Tex Mex food. I tried the new Al Pastor bowl. It was delicious. The Mangonada I had was great. Spicy and flavorful! We were a family party of 11 (including 4 little ones) on a busy Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was able to accommodate us very comfortably. My family is trying to stay sane during the Coronavirus pandemic. Today we decided to get fajitas from Gringo's. There's no dining in because of social distancing, so I called our food order in. The employee who took my order was very friendly and efficient. We ordered the mixed fajitas for two with refried beans and rice. Everything was good, except for the tortillas, which were a bit tough. I think that they had been made early in the day, so they were a bit stale. Everything else was good. We were able to pay for our food with a credit card. Every part of the transaction took consideration of the need to socially distance from each other. Considering what a hard time all restaurants are having during the quarantine, Gringo's has it all figured out. We support Gringo's and hope that this restaurant will survive during this economic downturn. May God protect us all from the Coronavirus. read more

Stopped in for lunch after a funeral. Place was really busy but we were seated right away, no waiting, Our server was Christena and there has never been a more hard-working, helpful, cheerful, sympathetic person on the planet. We were really impressed with her. She was busier than a one-armed paper hanger but she consistently found a few extra moments to get us whatever we needed for our meal. Way to go, Christena! I was soooo excited to come to Gringos haven't been in months and I haven't had fajitas in awhile and I was so excited to order the Veracruz plate which consist of chicken and steak fajitas, bacon wrapped shrimp with beans and rice. The fajitas weren't even sizzling and I told the waitress and staff and they disregarded my comment. You can even look at my picture and see there is no heat, steam nor fog coming from the plate so the plate wasn't even hot. Normally, the Veracruz is a huge plate with larger pieces of meat but I guess the restaurant trying to make their money back after been closed down for so long. The menu is limited as well. The waitress service was very poor and unacceptable. I had to even ask for chips and salsa by that time the food was here. I'll only come back for happy hour. read more

Food was mediocre at best. Sat at bar and we were waited on by Jairo. He makes you feel like he is on top of things...only to be left wondering wtf when he bring you the absolute wrong drink! He screwed up others drink orders too. What's odd is he confidently announced my order in front of me only to completely serve the absolute wrong beer. Seriously- were you even listening? Food was great, the GM Amanda was very rude and when we had a problem with our drink order she came to our table. I've had a long hard day working retail, went out of my way to go there, bc we are Tex mex members and when I tried to talk to her about it she cut me off, and said this is not open for discussion and walked away from my table. Super disappointed in this experience. I got married and had my after wedding party there and spent three hours getting served and it was never an issue until today. The worst dining experience ever! The server took over 20 mins to greet us and never showed back up. Another server came and saved the day ....well I thought he did. He was delightful but the day didn't go up from there. My spoon was dirty and had old spinach on it. The drinks came 10 mins after we got our food and there was paper inside my margarita. My husband and I come here 1-2 times per month and enjoy every aspect of it. There are TONS of great Tex-Mex restaurants around us, but Gringo's is my go-to for drinks with girlfriends, casual date nights, or celebratory occasions with family... basically any opportunity I can get. I live for their Sparkler Margaritas and Pollo Morisco....Seafood Enchiladas...Cozumel Chicken Salad... my mouth is watering just thinking about it all! The Champions location was flooded during Harvey, and everyone I know was counting the days until they reopened.The inside got a huge remodel and has a more open floor plan now, with the kitchen behind large glass windows that allow you to watch the staff hard at work. Love Gringos... well most of the time. Went last night for dinner and as usual we were seated in a reasonable time considering it was around 7pm. The good: our waiter Joseph was very attentive and helpful with all of my quirky demands. Service and food is always exceptional, hence our weekly (if not more often) visits. Cons: Unfortunately we were exposed to the unprofessionalism of management at this particular location (as it is close to where my wife works) we stopped in for dinner. Unfortunately we were privy to hear one of the most hyannis and demeaning comments ever made in a public setting. We overheard the manager tell the server he wouldn't be getting his tip as he would give it to someone who works harder. I called in an order for my family and Darion took my order and read back to me exactly what I order and quoted me a price commensurate with what I ordered and told me it would be 25-35 minutes before it was ready. I made it to the restaurant n 40 min and Zachary approached my vehicle before I even sent a text to let them know I was even there. He asked for my name and went inside and returned quickly with my food. The price he told me I owed was different than what I was told on the phone. I gave him my card and while he returned to process the payment, I checked the ticket on the bag to find out that my order was not a part of the food Zachary brought out to me. This location is definitely not known for good service but for the good food they provide. I am beyond disgusted. Am I supposed to wait another 20 to 30 min for my food while my family's food get cold. I'M DONE WITH GRINGOS. I just paid for what was given and come to find out that was incorrect. Only one order had beans but all of them were given beans. They are more than welcome to reach out to me. My name is Anthony S. I will not be ordering anything from them anytime soon. had a busy day and decided to go to Gringos for lunch. upon walking in, I saw our ladt server, Chris, and requested he wait on us because he was excellent! guess what? he is manager now, so we were lucky enough to get Nikki, who was a breath of spring! she took great care of us and brought us some Amazon dip to try - it was out of this world, as is their green sauce and tomato salsa. We ordered chicken enchiladas with poblano sauce, grilled shrimp, and a beef crunchy taco. Everything was so delicious we ate it all!! I can't wait to go back and try new dishes. Came in here for lunch really quick - haven't been in since they remodeled. It looks so nice and open now! It's hatch chili season so they had a bunch of new selections on the menu. We've been Gringos fans for years. They still have outstanding (not my opinion; fact) tamales and fajitas. And, the seasonal shrimp empanada is why men fight wars and return home. And, the bar staff is excellent; we are bar peeps, we always prefer the bar. And, they had the best marg in town...and changed the mix. Now, it matches their name - a very poor, common, get-it-anywhere, movie theater quality, crappy marg. I would LOVE to have been in the meeting where this was decided. "We've got to taste bad like other places!" or "we need to sell less margaritas" or "my donkey thought this mix was terrific!" My husband and I are from Oklahoma but he's worked in the Houston area a few times over the years, so he's the one who introduced me to Gringo's. He loves it and now I do too! The food is always fresh and delicious, and the service has always been outstanding. If you want one of the best servers I've ever had, ask for Chris. He is truly a delight! I ordered the veggie quesadillas with rice and beans, and Chris was kind enough to tell me that the rice is cooked in chicken broth just in case I was a vegetarian- which I am! He also requested the kitchen use corn tortillas instead of flour, as the flour ones contain lard. I'm always making special requests/changes at restaurants and I've never had a server actually care about that stuff as much as I do. It was so, so sweet. He really pays attention to detail and it shows! The drinks are wonderful too! I highly recommend the Corona-rita; they use a full sized bottle of Corona and it will definitely chase your troubles away, lol. My husband tried a Michelada last time and absolutely loved it. The only slightly negative thing I have to say is that the portions can be on the small side. Once I ordered a veggie fajita bowl, and I was a little shocked at how small it was. It wasn't a huge issue though as I always eat way too much chips and salsa, lol. Another time husband ordered combo fajitas and we were both surprised at how little meat there was, especially for the price. We are regulars at Gringo's and visit multiple locations around town, but this is our "home base" you could say. The location has a great management team and staff and they work hard to take care of their customers. We love how they are handling the pandemic, they are going above and beyond to keep their customers and their team safe. 1) Staff wear masks (since they reopened I have not seen a single slip up from a staff member) 2) instead of just blocking tables they have physically removed them 3) even though they never took reservations before they implemented a reservation system to ensure they can stay at proper capacity We have visited several restaurants since they reopened and have chosen not to return to some because of their lax atmosphere and lack of precautions, but we've never felt anything of the sort at Gringo's If your looking to get out and get a good margarita and some good food but are concerned about everything going on, give this place a try, they're doing a great job. read more

The food and service at Gringo's is always top notch. We have lived nearby and have dined here for many many years. On our last visit (Saturday, July 15, 2023) everything was very good, but there was something extra special. That something was a young man named Price. Price was cleaning the tables and helping with bar things. The restaurant was busy, and Price was not a waiter. Our servers were good, but they had a lot to do. We stopped Price a few times and asked him for things. Each time he was extremely courteous, efficient, polite and professional. He expeditiously took care of all our needs. We asked Price to check on the AC because where we were sitting seemed extra hot. He immediately reported this to the manager who expeditiously talked to us and addressed our concern. We asked Price for chips and later for to go containers. Each time he was responsive, polite, knowledgeable, and very willing to help. He represented Gringo's in the UTMOST SENSE OF PROFESSIONALISM!!! In today's world one seldom sees workers of this high caliber. We just want everyone to know what a fabulous dining experience we had and how grateful we are to Price for making it happen. We hope Gringo's recognizes the great potential of this young man. My review will be brief as I normally put a lot of thought and effort into my reviews, I am never offensive or inappropriate, and yet YELP feels they can unjustly violate my First Amendment right for whatever made up reason they conjure up. SUCK IT YELP!!! First and last time here. They were very busy (Saturday night). Many people here in Texas have told me it's their favorite Mexican restaurant. How sad. The service was friendly but incredibly slow. The cocktails were weak, even a double of 151 and coke. The Cadillac Margarita was NOT a Cadillac Margarita. The food was low grade cafeteria food. My wife and I ordered the steak and chicken fajitas for two for 40 dollars, the chicken was processed, the steak was tough and sinewy. My daughter ordered a chicken and steak quesadilla, it was the most palatable dish ordered that night. Her boyfriend ordered chalupas with steak with a massive up charge for low grade horse meat. The chalupas looked a lot like tostadas smothered in way too much iceberg lettuce, his plate actually looked like a salad. We also ordered overpriced guacamole for the appetizer, it was mixed with shredded lettuce, I can only imagine they do this as a filler so they don't have to use as much avocado. WTF!!! I swear the Spanish rice was rice-a-roni and the charo beans had what tasted like chopped cheap bologna in it. Any way, we will never be back. read more

For years I've been asked to join people for gatherings and happy hour at Gringo's. For many reasons, I could never muster up the gumption to set my foot in the door. I'd been here a few times after it initially opened, and I was so unimpressed; it was as if it was a faux Mexican restaurant nestled among the safe suburban landscape. Perhaps I've eaten at just a few too many of the good places in town and I know that I can make a better margarita. And I remember the original Ninfarita. But I gave in today and attended a retirement gathering set to begin at 3:30 this afternoon. Gringo's knew we were coming, and for a Tuesday afternoon, we were their primary business: twenty or so teachers ordering drinks and appetizers with only a few days left of school. Bring it on! Or maybe not. My frozen margo took nearly 25 minutes to be planted in front of me. Others ordered appetizers or something off of the regular menu: appetizers appeared quickly; regular items off of the menu had to be ordered TWICE. Chips were never refilled. Cold chips, and well, I could have driven a mile or so up the road to HEB and gotten better chips, too. Tasted about two of them and passed on the rest. I did not order any food since I was going home to cook dinner (what an absolutely bizarre thought!), but for the nearly 75 minutes that I was in this restaurant, I had THREE interactions with the waitress: once when she took my drink order, once when she finally delivered it, and then once as I was leaving to ask if I wanted another margarita. Duh. Does it look like I'm headed out the door? And there were no other patrons in this half of the restaurant except us. NO ONE. So, how was the margo? House margarita, frozen, salt on the rim: mediocre at best. Sucked it down with a straw and felt like I could have taken an accounting final afterward and aced it. Yee ha. Went to Houston with my bestie to celebrate my birthday weekend. Stopped off at the Cypress Gringos and had lunch and a wonderful Watermelon Margarita.
