They had a cute area with a little town made of wood and skeletons doing funny things that you could take pics with like a saloon, jail, checkers, and mortuary. We also took a picture of the iconic pumpkin wall that is all over IG. Then we got in line for the donuts. So hot, fresh and cinnamony and cakey! The line moves fast. We also wondered into the grocery area. Really picture perfect fruits and vegetables like if Whole Foods had a farm, this is what it would look like. It's beautiful. The pumpkin wall was cool to see, but what pleasantly surprised me was discovering that this is also a great farm with lots of fresh products. The checkout lines were long, although I imagine they're probably much shorter once the pumpkin wall attraction is no longer there. I'd probably come back again next year, but I would definitely avoid going during peak weekend hours.

I've never had a bad sandwich from there. I've tried the chopped cheese, steak and cheese, and buffalo chicken sandwiches. I haven't tried anything from the salad or hot bar yet, but it always looks really good. It gets pretty busy, so I'm guessing it's popular for a reason. I also buy my meat and fish there because everything always looks fresh and the quality has been great. The produce I've picked up has always been fresh too. I approached the deli counter to order a sandwich while my sister was elsewhere getting other food. There were multiple employees working behind the counter, and I patiently waited while the customer ahead of me was being assisted. Once that customer was finished, I was next. However, despite several employees being present, not one acknowledged me, asked if I needed assistance, or attempted to take my order. What made the situation particularly uncomfortable was that when my sister, who is considerably lighter-skinned than I am, approached the counter after me, she was immediately acknowledged and assisted. The difference in treatment was impossible for me to ignore. As a darker-skinned Black woman, I am aware that racial bias and colorism can influence everyday interactions, including something as simple as customer service. I cannot speak to the intentions of the employees, but I can certainly speak to my experience and how it made me feel. It was disappointing to stand there, visibly waiting to spend my money, while multiple employees failed to acknowledge my presence, only to watch someone who approached afterward receive immediate service. We ultimately got our food and left without confrontation, but the experience stayed with me. I don't expect preferential treatment. I expect the same basic courtesy and acknowledgment that every paying customer deserves. No customer should have to wonder whether their complexion determines how visible they are to the people serving them.

Your delivery date is based on your location. For instance, I live in Cambridge, so my food arrived Tuesday morning bright and early (before 8:00 AM). I was beyond happy with the presentation of my order. The delivery person placed all of my perishable items in the cooler I set out in our lobby, and my other items were neatly packed in brown paper bags. All of the produce was clean and attractive (even the potatoes were tidy), and not a single egg was broken. I point this out because PeaPod always breaks my eggs and it drives me crazy. In Season is a bit pricey, but no more so than Whole Foods. My only true quibble with the service was that the meat comes frozen. I guess I was expecting brown paper packages tied up with string and a hand delivery by Julie Andrews, but let's be realistic, the majority of the fresh meat I buy ends up in the freezer anyway. I doubt I'll be utilizing this service every week, but I want to stress again that the quality of these products is phenomenal and I definitely envision having a delivery from time to time.
