They need to pay more attention to their Yelp listing - there's a full bar, excellent cocktails, and they take credit cards - despite the Yelp listing.

I'm not a biggest fan of Mediterranean food but I do enjoy certain aspects to it and I'm always up for trying different flavours and foods. There was seven of us in total and I was unsure what to go for so an excellent mutual decision was made to go for the Chef's Selection for £14.95 each, which allowed you to try lots of options from their menu. This was a brilliant idea so if there was something I wasn't too keen on there was someone else happy to munch in, so nothing went to waste. There was so many courses, I forgot how many there was that it felt like a never ending amount of food came to our table. It was awesome! My favourite was the wee cheeky side order I had of halloumi but make sure you get the lutza halloumi as it comes with pork medallions. Yum! The chorizo was the best I've ever tasted, I'm not the greatest fan but the way it was cooked made it really tasty. We had falafel, chicken wings, lamb kofte, olives, hummus, lots of pita bread, Greek gyros and baba ghanoush. By the last course though I had to force myself, I think I may have had too many helpings of pita and hummus. Ooops! But is tasted so goooood. It's an alternative meal out with good quality food and the staff are lovely. We did have a few waits in between courses but then it's a popular restaurant but with good company and banter it didn't seem so bad. We ordered Iberico croquettes that were good (of course not as good as Spain). Crust was flavorful and heavy on the cream to jamon ratio. Jamon Iberico was good, sourdough of course is not authentic to the Spanish cuisine, but it was still tasty bread. We ordered the Galician sirloin and it was really good. If you are a real steak lover, probably go for their prime rib. I like my steak a little less fatty. Their cheesy cauliflower was rich and tasty and their tomato salad was just whatever, but it was good tomatoes. This was still one of my better meals here in Scotland.

I had quite possibly one of the best takes on a fry up this morning, called the scone stack. It really is good. Potato scone, black pudding and square sausage. You have to see it to believe it. Also, the staff are friendly, even had a very eccentric person in this morning (not sure if he was the manager) seemed very upbeat and perhaps not gone to bed after the night out but very good humoured.

We'd booked in for dinner at 7.15pm on a Friday night and were seated by the door. There is outdoor seating (with leopard print throws for when it gets chilly, nice touch) which would be nice for a nice day. It got quite cold by the door after a while but thankfully a nice waiter offered to close it for us which was really appreciated. Our waitress was a little brisk but it seemed like she was run off her feet the whole night. The other staff we encountered were all friendly enough as well. Having a look over the menu I felt a little rushed to decide what to have but perhaps they wanted to turn our table over. The menu is a little odd, to be honest. Pasta dishes on a tapas menu? I just don't get it. There is also a selection of Brutti Bread Piccolo which I'm guessing is something like pinchos but never found out as the waitress didn't seem to have the time to answer questions. I avoided the section of the menu that baffled me and stuck with the more traditional tapas dishes: croquettes (cheese and bacon), pan catalan (tomato bread), peaceful prawns (butter and garlic prawns) and deep fried halloumi. Other dishes I tried thanks to my dining companions (Graeme H & Katie V) were chorizo, patatas bravas, albondigas and I'm sure there was also a squid/calamari dish that I can't see on the menu just now. The stand out delicious dish for me were the croquettes. Super crispy on the outside and really cheesy in the middle, these were really amazing. So much so, as I excited tucked into the last one I was proclaiming how much I loved them, only to find the last one was empty. Yes, just a shell of a croquette and no filling inside. It was hilarious/devastating. If they weren't so good, I probably wouldn't have said anything but seeing as I really wanted that last one, I told the waitress who got another portion bought over pretty quickly. I forgot to check the bill to see if we were charged for the extra portion. I hope not. Everything else was ok. The pan catalan was tasty, but perhaps needed more soaking time for the tomato into the bread (and to cover the whole piece of bread as well). The chorizo was crispy and almost a little burnt. The halloumi was really good, but nothing really outstanding in terms of being anything different. Dishes I wasn't impressed with: the peaceful prawns and the patatas bravas. The prawns were really bland tasting, I couldn't taste any garlic. The patatas bravas was more like a potato stew than crispy individual potatoes. And the albondigas was really hard, too hard for a meatball and it was pretty unpleasant to try to eat. The sauce was really nice though. When eating a tapas meal it can be easy to bypass the disappointing dishes, but now I've come to write the review there was quite a few things I didn't think were great. In terms of a cool place to go for a drink, I would definitely go here again. It's a nice space and had a really nice Friday night vibe. But I would hesitate about going here for tapas - although I would order those croquettes again, for sure! Edited to add: I would head to Brutti Ma Buoni rather than here as I found it much better overall! It's their sister restaurant, also in Merchant City.

And so, with its stylised arty interior, the impressively huge bar which adorns an entire wall and the kind of service that'll leave you wishing the waiter was your pal, you're plunged into the ultra cool tapas cavern that is Brutti Ma Buoni. You will kick yourself for not finding it sooner and you will leave with a Brutti-induced holiday glow. For the five of us we opted for ten tapas dishes to share. The waiter was great, nodding along with an approving 'mmm-hmm' to all the dishes we'd chosen that he'd personally recommend and even suggested some of his favourites. (Paella! - Nom, good choice!) He was attentive and friendly, ensuring that everything was alright for us and that we had enough water. In fact, all the staff we encountered were lovely. Score! The result is that Brutti Ma Buoni exudes genuine charm. None of it the least bit try-too-hard. Hence the relaxed vibe which managed to take me far, far away and into cheery-happy holiday mode. We chose peaceful prawns, honey & chilli chicken wings, chickpea & spinach stew, mushrooms with blue cheese, spring rolls, salt & pepper squid, chorizo, chicken paella, aubergine fritters and patatas bravas. Everything was delicious but my favourites were the salt and pepper squid - which was deliciously battered and seasoned - along with the chorizo, (nom!) the chicken paella, (why thank you, waiter!) and the aubergine fritters. We all agreed that the aubergines were an unexpected surprise; lovely and fluffy in their light batter. Mmm! Heavenly tapas delights, and just the right amount of food for sharing, which, of course, is the best way to indulge tapas-style. So, leaving Brutti Ma Buoni, I genuinely did feel like I'd been on holiday; somewhere with sunshine, an ever-flowing bar and an undeniably warm welcome. Who needs holidays anyway?! The aubergine fritter was also really great - a whole aubergine slice with a delicate and light batter - it could've used a sauce of its own but thankfully there was some sauces left over in the other dishes which were perfect. The paella, which we'd ordered on the waiter's recommendation was one of my other favourites - really well cooked with hunks of chicken it it, it was nice to have some starch to go with the other dishes. The spring rolls were also really lovely - simple, sure but they were perfectly cooked and crispy - almost addictive in their crunch. Service was great, the bill was reasonable and it's a lovely space to enjoy a relaxing drink if you don't feel like eating. I wish they had the croquettes from Brutti Compadres on the menu here, but that's my only complaint! I also tried a pot of the Arabic tea (using leaves). That was a new experience for me as a green and English Breakfast tea drinker. Was a bit too bitter for me. My wife had the Halloumi Tawook Special, which she liked a lot. My daughter had the Chicken Shawarma, which she liked, as well. Naan bread was really good. It is also very close to the cinema which was good as we were off to the cinema after our meal. Upon entering we were quickly seated in a booth. We liked the decor of the place and the semi privacy offered by the booths. Menus were handed to us and drink orders taken. Our drinks arrived promptly and we placed our orders - Mozzarella Sticks and Penne ala Crema for him and Bruschetta followed by Spaghetti mia casa for myself. The starters arrived quickly enough but not before a waiter attempted to give us someone else's calamari starter! The boyfriends' two mozzarella sticks seemed a small portion and my bruschetta was a large slice of bread with fresh cherry tomatoes and was nice enough but I've had better elsewhere, the bread hadn't been toasted long enough. Our plates were cleared, new cutlery was set down and we were left to wait....and wait.....and wait. The waitress appeared after a time and asks "would you like some coffees or anything else?" and rather surprised I look back at her and say "no..." she was about to dash off when I managed to add "we're still waiting on our mains". The waitress gasps and runs away without saying anything. We shrug our shoulders and continue our conversation and during this wait I notice that the waiters really don't seem to know who ordered what. I watched a waiter wander around with a slice of cake for about 10 minutes before he managed to find the correct person! Our mains finally arrived and appeared to be good, freshly prepared food. The meals were simple but with good flavour and I only wish I'd had enough forethought to have ordered some garlic bread to soak up the remainder of the sauce. Plates were cleared and we opted for the dessert option on the pre theatre menu seeing as we had a bit of time to kill before our movie. Again we waited a fair amount of time before the waitress arrived once again to ask if we wanted coffees, no but we would like to see the menu please. We each chose the chocolate fudge cake and then found ourselves faced with another rather lengthy wait for dessert. During this time I amused myself by watching waiters wander around with plates of food asking fellow diners "did you order this?" and then wandering off upon finding it to be the wrong diner. I spotted our desserts about 5 minutes before they arrived as the waiter was over at the other end of the restaurant asking if they belonged to other people. The desserts finally made their way over to our tables and our ice cream had transformed to a puddle of cream but nevertheless still rather tasty. Getting our bill involved another 10 minutes of trying to catch a waiter's eye but it finally arrived, we paid up and left. We enjoyed the food well enough and for a pre theatre meal I'd say it was worth it. I honestly had the impression that the waiting staff had just shown up as new starts for the first time ever that day and been told to get on with it as they seemed to be without a clue. They were all friendly enough, they just appeared somewhat distracted. I might go back for the pre theatre deal but I would never pay full price for this place unless the service improved. I'd also say that despite advertising itself as being Mediterranean, the focus is largely upon typical Italian fare and it would be nice to see a wider choice of Mediterranean options on the menu, especially considering the restaurants close proximity to at least 3 other Italians within a block of this place. Nice enough for a pre theatre meal but it could be better.
