(I had a pretty gross dye job and needed to be rescued) I have been going to him for a little over a year now, and will go out of my way to get my hair done by him (even now that I'm moving to Tinley Park). Let me tell you I have been a client at this salon since it originally opened on Diversey. I followed them to all their locations. They have always provided a good service at an affordable price point. However, after this week I highly recommend anyone considering using them STAY AWAY. Here's what happened. My son's bar mitzvah was Saturday. On Wednesday the person who was doing my makeup informed me she had to cancel due to a death in the family. Of course understood and felt bad for her. I texted my Hair stylist at Griffith Parc who had actually given me the makeup persons number to ask if she knew of someone else who might be available and that I would see her Friday for my blow out with her. At this time she says " oops I forgot I'm going out of town". I admit I felt a little annoyed that she hadn't bothered to cancel but got over it IMMEDIATELY as she found me someone else to do my hair. Well.....when I go to do my hair with the new person and explain I'm stressed cause my hair, makeup and dj all canceled within the last 48 hours. the person who is doing my hair starts to say really negative things about the person who canceled on me calling her " unprofessional " and asking if I'm going to use her again. I reply, of course I am, things happen I of course am not holding a grudge. For which this stylist replies something like " oh wow your a nice person, I would never hire her again ". I thought it was odd she was slamming a co- worker and I refused to take the bate because 1) I was genuinely not mad at the person and over it and 2) I like the person and like how she does my hair so of course I want to use her again. next thing I know, hair stylist number one texts me that I'm toxic and said sh*t about her etc. WHAT????? The owner then follows up that I am officially kicked out of the salon. Am I being punked? I ask if they have video cameras as clearly stylist number 2 outright lied. I said nothing negative AT ALL. I found Dallah and he does an AMAZING job!!! My hair is naturally curly and unruly and he had it blown out and smoothed in 30 mins (WITH a wash). It lasted all week!! I struggled with whether I would write this review after being persuaded by the salon to remove the other one but seeing as how I don't believe the expectations of our agreement were met I will write a new one. I'm reminded of the severe heat damage everyday when I look at my thinning and much shorter hair due to the breakage. I'm still contemplating cutting it all off due to the damage I believe I received while at the salon. I would not recommend this place or any of the stylists. I found them to not be accountable for their actions and their "promises" to be misleading. PROS: -$25 is a great deal - They squeezed me in with 30 minutes notice. - Adorable and clean location CONS: - my stylist made me feel like I had inconvenienced him or maybe he just was having a bad day? Never more than a single word. - He rushed the service and was really rough with my hair. -As I was checking out, he was checking his phone. I've been going to Griffith Parc now for over two years and let me tell you they SAVED my hair. They took me from a basic girl with a bob to a diva with a full head of extensions. I would highly recommend them to ANYONE! The staff is all great! You could go to anyone one of the stylist and they'll all give you exactly what you're asking for. They are extremely flexible with you as well, which for someone with a busy schedule is huge. I will admit that I actually had two really good blowouts here. But I bought a Gilt City deal for 3 and never redeemed the last blowout due to my overall experience at this salon. As everyone else has mentioned, the staff is extremely rude. The girl at the front desk is terrible. The second time I came in was the worst. At first she ignored me. When she finally decided to acknowledge my existence, I complimented her nail polish (it was nice!) and she completely brushed me off. Ok...I won't say anything nice? I had the same stylist twice. The first time he was fine - and the only one to not chime in on the conversation with all the other rude, gossipy stylists (and clients...where do these people come from?). I decided to come back to him again because he did a really good job with my hair and was the only person in that place who seemed remotely friendly. However, my second experience with him was completely different. He maybe said about 4 words to me the whole time. I understand he may have been having a bad day. We all do. Still, he was late and never apologized. And he made zero effort to be friendly at all. I've worked plenty of service jobs and have always at least tried to seem pleasant. Did I mention that the salon is super unorganized and dirty? The back part where they wash hair is a mess. Yes, the blowouts are decent and only $25. But I don't care how cheap the service is if I'm going to be treated like crap. Next time I'll pay $10 more to get blowout at a salon where they treat me like a valued customer. read more

I had a good first experience getting a haircut by Sam about 6 months ago. I made an appointment for another haircut with Sam a month ago and it was cancelled via text the day of my appointment. The same thing happened four times in a row, cancellation after cancellation. I would receive the text that he couldn't make it without any reason and then wouldn't receive a response when I had questions about rescheduling. Since moving to Chicago, I have been very hesitant to trust any and all stylists with my hair because I am picky and particular. Chris is magic. Since Chris was overbooked, I was offloaded to Dallah. I echo previous reviews in that it was arguably the worst salon experience I have ever had... Including the aggressive hair handling, scalp-burning anxiety that left me so dissatisfied I swore I would never step foot in the place again. Went here based on a friend's recommendation, and I couldn't be happier! Earlier in the summer I had gotten an awful dye job, and my hair was on the verge of turning orange. I asked Melissa if we could get my hair back to its natural color, and she exceeded all my expectations. My hair color now not only looks natural, but so rich and luminous. I LOVE it! Melissa did a great job tending to my locks, too. She spent a great deal of time giving me the perfect detailed cut and then blew my hair out, so I could leave feeling like a glamour girl. My days of commuting out to the suburbs to get my hair done because I couldn't find a great place in the city are over. I am totally sold. I am not a fan of this place for one reason - the rude, unfriendly owner (I think his name is Sam). As a paying customer you would expect to be greeted with a smile and shown a little kindness from the OWNER of an establishment in appreciation for my business. Instead he sat around, barked orders to his staff, talked about where to get lunch (even though it was only 9am), and talked crap about a client that had just left. Made me wonder what he would say about me after I left. Im also pretty sure Ive been there before when he and/other employees were drinking. Overall the employees seem pretty nice, but the nonstop catty gossip and lack of friendliness overall is just very disappointing. Stay away from this place... I am shocked at how little this business cares about customer service. I do not write nasty reviews but I am so upset at the 50$ I have wasted at this place, and I will be letting GIlt City know to never advertise this business again. I bought a blowout in January and had a great guy, who did not give me any special conditioner like I payed for. But I ignored this oversight because I had to go to a wedding and didn't want to stress myself out. Then he offered to let me buy 3 more blowouts at the low price that was advertised on Gilt. Ok, I bit I love blow outs. Come July when I want to schedule with that guy again and I make a reservation online, get a confirmation for the time and stylist I wanted. All good I think. Oh well 24 hours before the appointment I get an email telling me the stylist is someone else, and the time is 30 minutes later than I was confirmed for! So I email them and get a message saying my appointment is that later time, and I should call back. I call back and say how did I get confirmed for the earlier time/different stylist. They had no answer, and told me they believed me that I was confirmed but now I needed to see this other person at a later time. Then he drops the bombshell that since I bought the others in January that all 3 I already payed for expire on July 22nd. Wait what??? I was never given a deadline. Then he said since I didn't cancel with 24 hours notice one of them would be used for the appointment I was not attending. So to boil this whole rant down: 1st time: Good style, but skipped part of service I paid for 2nd time: was confirmed 2 weeks out, then 24 hours before my time was changed by the business with no other notice than an email. And since I can not come at the later time I lost a service I already paid for, and the other 2 will expire in two weeks? I told whomever the rude person I was talking with that I will eat the cost of the package and they lost a customer. CRAPPY SERVICE AND UNTALENTED STAFF! I purchased a Gilt City voucher for a Brazilian Blowout and scheduled an appt with the salon. The stylist who answered the phone scheduled me for a Monday morning. I received a rude voicemail the Saturday beforehand saying "I dont know who or why they scheduled you for Monday morning but we don't open that early on Mondays. I left them a voicemail the same day asking to reschedule. I received a call that Monday morning stating I was a NO SHOW and they were wondering where I was...in the rudest and most arrogant tone! Keep track of when your stylists can and cannot come in..that is not my job! We ended up figuring it out through unnecessary attitude and rescheduled my appt. I went in this morning and the service was terrible, actually unbearable. Dallah, my stylist was the most un-engaging stylist I've ever met. He didn't care to ask me one question or strike up any sort of conversation during my 2 hours there, even after multiple attempts on my end. He had one word/ thoughtless comments to my questions on hair care (I have dry hair which is falling out!). At the end he had the audacity to say...just so you know the actual value of the treatment is $250 when the tip came up. Errrrr! Will not be going back to this unsophisticated and overly arrogant staff. read more

I booked an appointment with a certain sylist, who I had been recommended to see, only to show up on the day of the appointment to find out I had been "transferred" to another stylist for my appoinment. The haircut and style was just ok. But afterwards, the more I thought about the change in the appointment (without apology or explanation), the more upset I got about the complete lack of customer-focus. I went to the business' website and wrote an email to management about my experience.... and, to this day, I have never received a response, apology or acknowledgement. With so many amazing salons in Chicago.... and many of them in the Bucktown area.... I bought a Gilt voucher for a blow-out with a moroccan oil treatment. I made an appointment & the person on the phone was very cold - an automated system would have been friendlier. There was NO confirmation call or email or follow up of any kind. When I arrived, the front desk staff was really rude & dismissive, didn't offer me a beverage or tell me where to put my coat - I had to figure out myself where to sit & wait. They were gossiping with each other the whole time. The stylist, Dallah, was nice enough, but he murdered my head - it was the most painful shampoo & blow-out I've ever experienced. The results looked great & lasted a few days, but the service itself was torture. I decided to give them another shot & booked another blowout because the price was so cheap. It was the same dismissive front desk service - no warm welcome, just an abrupt "what's your name?" Dallah hurt me so much that I wanted to cry in the chair, even after I asked him to ease up. And I have a very hard head because I have naturally curly hair, so it's not like I have an sensitive scalp at all. I decided to get a quick trim while I was there because my ends looked bad once they were blown out straight. Dallah did a good job with the cut, but Sam the owner just sat & stared while Dallah worked - no greeting, no explanation. It was kind of creepy. Only after the cut was finished did he walk up and say "I'm Sam, I'm the owner" like was Vidal Sassoon himself & I should kiss his feet for talking to me. Then he told me he was going to "check my cut" and he examined my head & talked to Dallah about me like I wasn't even there. The only good thing about this place is the price - it was only $40 for the blowout & cut, but it's not worth the cold people & painful service. Also - they don't let you tip on a credit card, but they don't tell you that until you're ready to pay, so there's no way to prepare for it. I wouldn't go back if they paid me. read more

BUT most important they make you look absolutely FAB! I have incredibly thick hair that takes me at least an hour to make it look presentable, so I have no problem spending money on having someone else handle the blow dryer for me! I have gone to dozens and dozens of salons for this service (even navigating the streets of NYC's Chinatown in 100 degree temps) paid anywhere from $15 (Chinatown) to $75, and NOT one of these places produced the results that Griffith Parc does EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!! I'll go back and give it another try because the price is nice and it's close by. I had two pictures that I used to show the gentlemen what I wanted - volume and large/wide curls. When he was down, there was little volume and tiny curls. I have a lot of hair, volume has never been an issue and I have long hair so wide curls are doable. After I finally saw what he did and mentioned it, he just sprinkled some white stuff on the top of my had that was supposed to help with the volume. SCAM ALERT: If you make the mistake of going here in the first place, expect to be treated with contempt. My brother bought two blow dry sessions for my wife's birthday. Having used one, she called to set an appt for her second but was told it was no longer valid. Apparently since Griffith changed their system the credit now has to be with an individual stylist and credits purchased before the system change are null and void.
