PENDING FURTHER RESOLUTION: Finally got in contact with them and they replied to my calls. Will update again to see if they will charge me for a pump out of the fuel oil they filled my tank when my account was cancelled months ago and resolve the charges they applied will be dismissed. Still have not scheduled a pump out as of today after contacting them a few days ago. The email address I've been using they said the person is no longer with the company for months and yet I received no return email message saying the email address was available. Raised the star rating pending further complete resolution. At least they respond to these reviews and leave contact info, which is the same that's on their website that I used and received no reply. I would give a zero if that were an option. Like another customer, we lost heat and hot water on 12/27-12/28. We called many times and left several voice messages that were never returned. Finally got through by clicking "new accounts" option and set up a tech who arrived around 9:30 pm. He did nothing except tell us that our tank was empty and the gauge was stuck and poor enough oil in to make it through the night. He reported that they had a shortage of drivers and apparently our oil was never delivered. Fool me once! He left. Called Griffith the next morning, unable to reach anyone, left messages, etc...the beat went on for about 1 hour, and I called Murphy Oil; someone actually answered the phone, set up an oil delivery for the next day, and told us what to do to get through that night. BTW, for anyone reading this, she told us to buy about 5 gallons of diesel fuel and pour in. Murphy arrived as scheduled and filled the oil tank (to as much as we could afford as we were on the budget plan with Griffith, so needless to say, this was a big financial blow, especially over the holiday). Moving on, I called Griffith again to cancel our contract with them, and the woman asked, "what was the reason" hahahahahaha! She said she would email the final bill. Any bets?? read more

THE WORST. Buyer beware, stay as far away from this company as you can. The ONLY reason I even deal with them is because I've been renting and my landlord has a contract with them so I have no choice. I've had to deal with their incompetence for 8 years, going all the way back to when they were Zindorff (check out my review there), and they've not gotten any better. Their trucks are never stocked with the parts they may need, they can never give you an estimate as to when they'll be there, they don't call to let you know if they're delayed or not coming at all. They get information wrong. After having gone through a nightmare couple of weeks with an igniter problem on my furnace, my landlord finally decided to have a new furnace installed. They called me to schedule the installation, wanted to do it on a Weds, but I told them that day wasn't good, that I had a doctor's appt at 9:00 a.m. in Edgewater. They PROMISED me they'd have someone here by 8:30, that I could just leave once they were here and they'd do the work while I was gone. At 8:10, I saw them oustide at the wrong house. I walked over, told them they had the wrong house, the guy wanted to argue with me, but finally came to my house. But he was only delivering the furnace, not installing it. 8:30 came and went, nobody here. 9:00 came and went, nobody here. So now I've missed my appointment as well. When I called, all they could say was "I show they're on their way, but I have no idea when they'll be there." At 10:30, the technician finally showed up, and told me that Griffith had TOLD him to not come until 10:30, that they never told him he could work while I was gone. I'm so glad I'm moving out in a few weeks and will never have to deal with this company again. read more

We converted our heat from oil to heat pump last summer. We cancelled our service with Griffith accordingly. On 3 occasions, their service guys attempted to refill the oil. My husband caught them on 2 occasions and called to tell the AGAIN our service was cancelled. On the 3rd occasion, no one was home and they refilled the tank. We have been calling for 3 months - no response. And they are billing us for the oil! Find another provider who has better customer service. read more

We have used Griffith in TWO capacities: ***My review says Fairfax Station, VA but our home is in Edgewater, MD***. 1. OIL REFILL FOR OUR HEATING. They do a fine job with this. They come on time and the driver is a nice guy. No complaints here. 2. RELOCATION OF A GAS PROPANE TANK 15' FROM CURRENT POSITION. They were supposed to have this moved in January. It is now April and almost nothing has happened. Our generator runs off of this propane tank and we cannot refill the propane until the tank is moved, according to Griffith. We aren't even that mad about the the lack of progress. What upsets us is the fact that not one manager is willing to return our phone call to us. We've requested a phone call from the manager three times over the past six weeks and not once have they returned the phone call or even acknowledged that we called. To be clear, it's not that we have been the pain in the butt client that won't leave management alone. We literally have not spoken to a manager once since the project started. We did receive two bills for the work that has not yet been completed. The receptionists and gentleman (who has since left Griffith) that originally visited on the sales call were all pleasant but the management from the office level positions could not care less about client service. I'm told Dave Nelson is the person in charge. I did get an email response from somebody named Mike Murphy. I told him Dave had still not called me back after weeks and his response was, "I forwarded your email to Dave Nelson". I'm a contractor and I honestly cannot imagine treating a client this way. Finally, our home is very old and so we don't care too much about this but the only bit of work that Griffith did perform so far was to run a very ugly yellow gas line at eye level down the entire length of the side of our home. Again, not a huge deal but I think somebody should have discussed this with us before simply putting holes in the side of our house and making the side of the house unsightly. We were under the impression prior to this that the pipe would be put underground (not because we were told so but because we were told so but rather because I can't fathom putting this gas line where they put it and therefore the expectation was simply not set or communicated by the contractor). read more

They told me someone would be out that day to repair air conditioner they sold me. All day, Never Came. Called me at 4 pm to tell me they weren't coming but would come in the morning. Tech comes out without the correct part but has another that will work for $150 more. Bait and Switch. Office personnel argues I refused service and will have to wait until next week, meanwhile stressing I don't have a service contract with them. NOW I know why I don't. This group is horrible. .0025 would be a rating gift. read more

Awful! We have been without oil (heat and hot water) for five days. We are on auto fill and found out they haven't filled us up since May! We are on a monthly plan and have never missed a payment. They filled us up after hours on Monday and dropped an emergency couple gallons. Promised someone would be out first thing on Tuesday. Nothing! Ran out again and dropped a couple more on Wednesday evening after hours and promised again someone would be out on Thursday. Now our furnace is not working (probably since running out twice this week) and promised someone would be out yesterday to look at it. Nothing!!!!! We have four young children and no heat/hot water after multiple calls to them and every time telling us they would send a tech. Shame on Griffith. Just say no. We've been using Griffith for fuel delivery and annual service since 2006. The previous owners of our home used them before that. Six or seven years ago they installed a new furnace. Four years ago they installed an A/C condenser. Service has become more spotty and upselling more aggressive. Last week I installed a whole-house humidifier. I managed to drill through the end of the evaporator coil for the A/C above the furnace. *sigh* Stupid husband tricks. Griffith came out to look at it (took three appointments - good thing I work at home). $7,000 essentially replacing pretty much everything. Oh - that A/C condenser we bought four years ago? $2,800. Why so much? I got multiple bids to fix our A/C evaporator coil. The repair that Griffith thought would cost $7,000 is bid at $1,300(ish). As an engineer the solution our selected contractor offered made a lot more sense. The other bids clustered around that solution so Griffith was completely an outlier. Careful reading of our deal with Griffith for annual service and automatic delivery shows an early termination charge of $400. That likely means one more fuel delivery from them. Shopping fuel costs Griffith is $.25 to $.45 above the market. Service contracts are up in January and fuel delivery in June. That will be it for Griffith. read more

Technicians are knowledgeable and care about performing quality work. However, customer service and billing departments are horrendous to work with. They never answer their phones or return voicemails, causing billing errors to go unresolved and compound. As I wait for a charge to be corrected, Griffith keeps sending me "late fee" bills for small amounts ($4, $8, etc.). I have promptly paid the late fees each time just so they will go away, but Griffith keeps sending more ticky-tack late charges. Because they don't answer their phones, these billing errors keep lingering. Operationally, this company is a complete joke. I'm prepared to report Griffith to the state's consumer protection agency. read more

Total liars and garbage as far as I can tell. Had a horrible time using them for home in Columbia and now find myself helping my Mom for her furnace repairs. I wish I could have warned her before she called this place. The usual drill it seems for them. They send a Tech out to diagnose a furnace failure and say parts are needed. They say they'll order and schedule for repairs early next week (Thanksgiving week). Next week rolls around and no word. Mom calls Wednesday asking for status and they there's no record of her work order. They say they know the Tech assigned and they've already left on vacation and to call back Friday. She calls Friday and they say parts are in and they'll be onsite Saturday between 8-12 to fix. On to today and they called to say the parts never came in and will have to wait until next Wednesday. Oil delivery is spotty at best. They stopped delivering oil to our home in November 2022 even though we were current with our payments, plus paid $360.00 for a service contract. Ran out of oil in December and Griffith would not answer their phones, emails or texts. We couldn't get service, let alone a delivery of oil. House remains at 55 degrees as of today, December 28,2022. read more

My boiler died. A call to the 888 number produced a promise of a prompt service ca. A week later, after unreturned follow up calls, a service tech appeared. This is "bronze" service. He advised a part was needed and that he would be back shortly. Ten days later, nothing and no returned calls. read more

I wish I could give them a negative number for a rating. This company is horrible. My 88 year old mom had a auto-pay contract with Griffin in Edgewater, MD. My mother sold her house and moved into a Senior Living Facility in 2020. Griffin owes my Mom $1,587.91. It's been almost 2 months and they are unable to send my mom a refund either by sending money to my mom's bank account...or...sending her a check. Every time I call or email Griffin their customer service rep says "You'll get you refund in 2 weeks". It's been 9 weeks, and they still have not sent any money or contacted me on why there has been a delay. read more

Awful customer service and outrageous charges! Griffith "forgot" to ("automatic refill") refill our fuel oil tank on a cold weekend this past winter and left us out in the cold over a weekend. Then, when we requested a measurement months later to see see how much fuel oil was in the tank, they demanded $120 for a simple reading of what was in the tank. When we asked to speak to a manager about the poor quality of service and comment on the fee for stopping by to check out the tank, we received a voice mail and our call was never returned. And last but not least, when we inquired with other fuel oil companies on pricing per gallon, Griffith was about 20 cents higher than the competition. This us the worst experience I have ever had with any company. I simply wanted an account with a oil company. Mike, the owner, seemed nice at first. He sent a service tech, Ethan, to inspect my tank and they determined that I need to replace the indoor pipes for the both the fill and vent. This happened on a Friday. Monday afternoon comes along and no word from them about scheduling the service. I call in just to sit on hold for 5 minutes and eventually get the answering machine during normal business hours. I call Mike again and he ensures me that someone will call by Tues. Never called. I called back in Tuesday. They sent a service tech that afternoon with the wrong parts and the tech started complaining about the companys organization or lack there of. The tech takes notes for the next tech so he can complete the job. They send another tech, Jeff, out on Thursday and Jeff showed up with no parts and no knowledge of what needed to be fixed. I called Mike again immediately after Jeff left and told him what happened. Mike assured me that someone would call first thing Friday morning. It is now Tuesday and I never heard from them. Not even one attempted phone call. So, I called Mike to inform him that I will be going with Caroll. Complete waste of 2 weeks and I still do not have any oil in my tank during this cold spell. If you are thinking of going with this company. DON'T! Save yourself the hassle. read more

This co should have a negative star rating. Auto delivery is a joke. This is the 2nd time I have run out of oil. Started calling emergency help line at 1:30 then 6:15 then at 9 pm. Each time I was told the techs are working and I would receive a call. Waited all night long. Temperature in my house went from 65 to 55. Called again at 4 am was told they stop taking calls at midnight this time, really? Not to mention I had to repeat my every word to the dispatch person 3 times and I still don't know if she got it right. What is the sense in having an emergency service for? Griffith: You could not possibly be any worse, so a 1 rating is a gift. We signed up for your "gold maintenance" contract at 350/yr, since we just purchased our home in Annapolis and felt this was a wise decision, not knowing the ins and outs or having familiarity with this oil boiler system. When we realized we were needing a full oil fill every 3 weeks to a month, we called you to ask for a service call ASAP to troubleshoot this issue. That was in Nov., 2017 and you scheduled us for 31 Jan 2018!! Meanwhile, we have been getting oil every 3 weeks to a month at over 500.00 each pop. To make matters worse, we called you on Monday to request a fill and you said you would be out tomorrow (Tues). When you did not show up on Tuesday, we called again on Wed morning to find out when you were coming. You would not make a promise on when you would be out, except to assure us that you are "working 24/7" to get people oil. Only if we were completely dry with not a drop of oil would you agree to come out on an "emergency" basis. Our oil also provides us with hot water, so if we go completely dry, we have a multitude of issues in this house. I emphasized the dial was on zero and we had turned our heat way down to conserve what was left but we needed a date for when they would be out. Your inability to meet your customer needs is NOT OUR PROBLEM; plan for these situations, people!!!!!! I called again on Thursday and again on Friday (today). I asked to speak to a supervisor and told by Sheila, the office mgr, that all the supervisors were out servicing customers. So, if anyone uses Griffith, just realize that if they don't make it to your house, they offer you nothing but excuses, even when you have paid out the nose for a maintenance contract! Putting us off as they have done has cost us hundreds of dollars because all our system needs is a thorough cleaning to get rid of the soot build up. We used our American Home Warranty to diagnose the issue in the end, and that is the actual problem. Griffith, with their delays to get to us, has cost us unnecessary fills, and when we needed this last fill, they would not even come to our house. There are other more reliable and less expensive companies out there and we highly recommend you contact one of them. Griffith clearly doesn't understand customer service and they obviously have no idea whatsoever, how to plan accordingly for the winter when you need them most. We were a Western New York customer for about ten or eleven years. We heat with propane and were on a budget payment and did good until my wife had emergency surgery last fall and was out of work for three months. We got behind in all of our bills and still are playing catchup. They shut us off and left us without heat for the last cold snow or two. I had a sick wife, an autistic son, and two other children to provide for. So much for the "valued customer" shit they lay on you. We tried to make payment arrangements to get our bill paid up and stay with them in the future because we were already hooked up and everything. They wanted all or at least 3/4's up front. I guess we were no longer one of their valued customers. Franklinville and Olean, New York's office management should be an embarrassment to the parent company. Nice way to run a service business people ! Now, Griffith can pound salt and get their $ 10.00 a month in payments. Plus now... we have a much cheaper propane provider as well.
