I got the matcha latte with oatmilk and it was good, I think my friend got it with whole milk and her's was less sweet and nuttier compared to mine which was a bit sweeter. My bf got the es kopi susu and it was on the sweeter end but still delicious. Foodwise, I thought the ayam geprek was okay, portions are definitely generous and the chicken was juicy and crunchy, however I felt the sambal bawang was spicy yet lacking flavor. The rice was also a bit on the mushier side as well. The lamb skewers were really good though! flavorful and i liked the nutty sauce. It got packed as time went on, we went on a sat morning no reservations & you just sit wherever there's seating. You order at the counter and you pick up the food up front to your table. I've heard a lot about this place, and it's been on my bucketlist for a while! Finally had a chance & came on a saturday afternoon and it was packed -- definitely come early or expect a wait! This spot is half indonesian comfort food, half american brunch. It gives off a similar energy to Caphe Roaster but make it indonesian - cozy, packed, very neighborhood café vibes. I can see why it's a local fav I got their smash chicken since it's one of their most popular dishes -- chicken was crispy and tender, and you can choose from 5 sauces. Also tried the chicken congee -- shredded chicken, fried dough, peanuts, yellow chicken broth. Suuper thick, really comforting, this would hit on a cold day. For drinks I was so torn, I wanted to try everything and ended up going went with the matcha mango coconut -- refreshing, not too sweet. They've got a whole lineup of matcha and hojicha drinks that I'm definitely coming back to try! FINALLY made it to Griddle and Rice after seeing it all over the place! I came in on an early Friday morning. I literally wanted everything from the menu from breakfast items to their lunch items but alas it was early so I settled for the Supreme Sammy which comes with 2 fried eggs, cheddar cheese, beef bacon, hashbrown, arugula, umami sauce on a beautiful butter brioche bun. I also opted to add a side of homefries + side salad. I ordered the dirty milo to wash it all down which is the milo dinosaur drink but with a shot of expresso. It took a bit for them to cook the food since its made to order but oh man when it came out I was so happy. The sandwich itself was HUGE by the way. Very tasty with every bite. No skimping on ingredients. You can tell this food was made with love :) The hashbrowns had fresh sauteed peppers and onions and the salad was nice and light. I couldnt finish it but even as leftovers it was great. The dirty milo was also very good but not very strong coffee taste. Overall a great breakfast meal. If only this place was closer to me! I visited on a weekday for lunch after having this place on my list for quite awhile. Walking in, I was hit by a cozy and bustling cafe vibe which was definitely in stark contrast to the chilly quiet outside neighborhood corner. At the counter, I ordered the ayam geprek or smashed chicken rice dish with sambal on the side. For a drink, I got the kopi gula aren. It was quite crowded inside but I was able to find a seat for myself immediately. I felt like by the time I had taken off my coat and gotten settled, my drink was ready, and then my food was quickly ready after that. I've never had smashed fried chicken before, but it was just what I needed. It's what you would think it would be like, and the sambal really gives the dish a nice finish. It was definitely a good portion size. The iced coffee was nice too and not too sweet. I'd definitely come back to try more of their menu! read more

The food was all absolutely lip-smacking - flavorful, hearty, and seasoned to perfection. The sandwiches were some of the best breakfast sandwiches we've had in Philly and the veggie fritters were a surprising favorite for both of us, really crispy and tasty. Dined in for breakfast on a Friday morning with a large group. Even then, we were able to all seat together by combining nearly all the tables in the space for ourselves. If there were any more people eating in, we would have definitely had to split up, as the seating space is relatively small. We were able to order and get our food quickly! I ordered the chicken congee and it was fabulous--rich chicken flavor with the comforting texture of rice and a ton of chicken meat! Sambal gave it a delicious garlicky kick. I went here with my daughter and ordered Supreme Sammy, Chicken Congee, kopi tubruk, and unsweetened ice black tea. They do not skimp with portion, the supreme Sammy was packed and I was genuinely full 3/4 of the way. Chicken congee was also very good and it is an ultimate comfort food. Unsweetened ice black tea was very nice, and kopi tubruk was strong, but very smooth (it is unfiltered so when you get this you have to let it sit for about 10 min for the coffee ground to sink to the bottom). It is a very small space, we were lucky we got the window counter seats, but there were enough people coming and going for pick ups so it gets kind of crowded. read more

We went for late brunch today after seeing this place pop up a few times on my feed. We got the smashed chicken with garlic sauce, chicken congee and two matchamisu lattes. Everything was incredibly delicious and flavorful! Limited seating but we got lucky and found a table immediately after we placed our order. Staff was friendly and helpful with suggesting what to order. One thing I noticed is the floor was very dirty and because of my obsessive nature, I was very uncomfortable and constantly checking whether the hem of my jeans or my coat, which was hanging on the chair, wasn't touching the floor. That could be a "me" problem though. I imagine it would be better if the floor was cleaned between seatings but also I understand it would be difficult to do so if they constantly get traffic. We got the Crème Burlee French Toast and Smash Chicken Rice, both were tasty. This was probably the best French toast I've ever had. Ration of the crème burlee sauce and bread was perfect! Small location, quick service, ample portions, appropriate prices. I really enjoyed my meal here. My husband and I often struggle to find a single restaurant that hits both of our palates. I loved that there was so much to explore on the plate. The fried chicken was crispy without being over done, the sweet chili egg was flavorful, the veggie fritter was so crunchy, sweet soy tempeh was something I've never had before but I now crave, the coconut rice was fragrant without being overpowering, and I used the crispy garlic crackers to make a scoop and combine the chicken, rice, and sambal to make the most delectable bite. My husband got the creme brûlée French toast and it was so delicious. It was rich without being overly sweet and the layers of custard really brought home the creme brûlée flavor. The beef meatball skewers were ok; not sure I'd get them again, the texture was not good for me but the peanut sauce was so delicious. For drinks, I had the matchamisu. It had the richness of tiramisu but was not drowned in sugar or syrup. Overall good but not sure I'd get it again. My partner had the cookie butter latte. That was delicious without overdoing it on the sugar. All in all, really positive experience and I left ready to plan my next trip back so that I can try more on the menu!! As an fyi, they do not take reservations and seating is limited to 4 two tops, 2 four tops and windowsill/counter seating (maybe 8 stools in total) if you come early, you will probably miss the rush. When I was confused as to what to order, the staff was very patient and informative. They have a sink in the seating area to wash your hands which is such a nice touch - every restaurant should have one. The drink menu has something for everyone. They have several pastries as well. I found the prices to be very reasonable. We paid $40 for two entrees and two drinks. Iced Coffee (5/5) - I prefer an iced coffee over a cold brew so this was nice to see Es Kopi Gula Aren (4/5) - this was an iced coffee with gula aren (indonesian palm sugar); it was hard to mix the gula aren with the iced coffee since the drink was cold, would recommend though for the experience! Nasi Uduk (4/5) - this was the breakfast rice platter which came with indonesian coconut rice with fried chicken, shredded egg, fried rice noodle, sweet soy tempe, bakwan sayur, sambal and crispy crackers. I came here with my 2 kids and wife a few months ago. Walking in, you're instantly hit with delicious savory smells fresh from the kitchen. The staff is super friendly and ready to talk your order and there are a lot of options, including a display of pastries that my kid was instantly drawn to. I got an omelette, my wife got a sandwich, and the kids shared some pancakes. The food here is really very good and comes out hot since you're basically grabbing the plate right from the kitchen. My big kid decided that my omelette looked tasty and basically ate 3/4 of it. RUDE! We left with 2 pastries that I can't remember other than my wife and kids ate them up fast. Food and drinks are soooo good! There's no wifi to really sit and do work but it's a bit small/tight inside anyway. There are outdoor seats and tables. Every time I've been here it's been busy, maybe even a little chaotic--but vibes high! The first time I ordered in person and it was definitely busy but no more than a 15 min wait for some breakfast sandwiched and drinks. The fluffy egg sandwich is delicious, I also LOVED the congee, and their Pandan iced coffee latte is one of the best things I've ever tasted! Their pastries/desserts look so delicious as well. You cannot beat a simple fried chicken, rice and garlic, some sides for variation, and shrimp paste. Delicious without feeling heavy is exactly what you need as a 30+ foodie. I also had the bubur ayam abang2 - chicken congee. A solid congee if you want to feel more full. I mixed in all the ingredients and loved the combination. The chicken had a slight sweet taste to me, which is not preference. I still enjoyed, but would opt for a rice plate. I had a matcha float which was a matcha latte + matcha ice cream. My favorite was the ayam gaprek; it was moist and flavorful and considering it was to go the outer batter retained its crunchiness. The rest I would probably pass the next time. Sate kambing (lamb) was flavorful but tough and the peanut sauce was thickkk, like peanut butter spread. Lontong sayur was ok. Nasi uduk was flavorful, the fritter was also flavorful but the chicken was so dry and tough that I ended up giving most of it to my pup. Roti bakar was also dry. It feels like not enough filling and condensed milk. I ended up adding more cheese when I got home. There's another local Indonesian restaurant that I feel does roti bakar better. The drinks were probably my favorite of all the things I ordered. Matcha float was delicious! The taste of the matcha was so good and the scoops of the matcha ice cream really made the matcha so creamy and delicious. Kopi aran was really good as well. The tiramisu latte was also pretty good. I tasted mostly milk, foam and chocolate syrup (I think). Probably a good option for those that love sweet coffee drinks without tasting too much coffee. We were so thankful that Griddle and Rice was open the Monday following the recent snow storm. Despite the cold, they had a steady stream of customers which makes sense given their delicious food and dine in/take out options. Their coffees and lattes are very good - I enjoyed the iced salted butterscotch latte. We loved the pancakes, Nutella toast and breakfast sandwich. The pastry options were excellent and the chocolate chip cookies were fresh and delicious. Smooth, earthy, and perfectly balanced. We had to try their most popular dish: the Nasi Uduk (breakfast rice platter). The fried chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, and full of flavor. It paired so well with the fragrant coconut rice and spicy sambal. We also ordered the chicken satay, and wow that peanut sauce was something else. So rich and tasty, and it came with rice cakes too. Service was quick and efficient, which we really appreciated, especially for a busy little spot. The space is small, definitely more of a takeout or quick dine-in spot.
