This is my second time coming here and the rice was better than the first time. The first time I dined in, my rice was overcook- i mean cmon... but I gave this est. another chance and today they did not disappoint. IMO, if you do a take out it can be more expensive than dining in. For example- if you do a take out on Telor Balado (the marinated egg) it will cost you $1 each. I mean good lord...nevertheless, if you have the money to splurge then by all means. This place is a neighborhood joint where if you dont feel like cooking and need a quick grab.

Wonderful little hole in the wall filled with delicious indonesian & Sumatran food. Best goat curry I've ever had. Rendang was on point. Lovely counter person who handed me the remote when I asked to change the channel. Very reasonable prices. Good portions. A+

The place is cute but they charged me overprice for rice, kale, a piece of beef, an egg and a tofu while egg and tofu in the same dish for $12. This is my first time but I wouldn't recommend it. The other indonesia place on 11th st charged only $8 for the same meal.

    $12 worth of food.

3.5 stars. It is a nasi padang restaurant. Pretty awesome finding one in the USA. 5 stars: the prices. One fish, one chicken breast, two plates of rice, a couple servings of kale cost us a whopping $12 (including tax). Yeah, I can handle that! 3 stars: the actual food. Honestly, out of all the Indonesian food I've had, I'd say this was in the bottom third. It wasn't that great. Maybe I just got the wrong thing, I don't know. My wife really liked her fish, and she's Indonesian, so I guess it's legit but my wife also likes pretty much every seafood dish ever made, so maybe take that with a grain of salt... Ambiance: 4-5 stars. There are only a few tables in here. Food is served on plastic plates, with plastic utensils. Indonesian TV playing all the time. Service: Friendly and nice, but if you don't have an Indonesian speaker with you, you might have some communication difficulties. Overall Seulanga is worth checking out just for the experience. The food isn't the best, but it's certainly cheap and not bad.

This place is definitely your authentic hole in the wall Indonesian food, despite one of the servers being a friendly Thai. The sauces are great, especially in their curries and hot sauces. I can't say that this is the best food I've had (meats were a but too dry), but the authenticity and home cooked feel is unbeatable. This restaurant seems to do well to serve the local population here. For some family style Indonesian food, you can't go wrong.

Greens and tofu over yellow rice, with red sambal

Tiny steam table place. Vegan options available. Got some tofu and greens over yellow rice with red sambal, all was very good. Friendly service, too.

Good price, some foods taste same as original food in Indonesia. You guys should try Soto chicken or Soto Beef. Most food under $10.

Overall Ratings Atmosphere - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Food - 5/5 Parking - Street Parking Atmosphere - The restaurant is on the smaller side with limited seating, but it feels modern and thoughtfully designed. I especially enjoyed the artwork throughout the space. Service - We had the chance to chat with one of the owners and learned they have only been open for a couple of years. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and I truly hope they continue to see the success they deserve. What We Ordered - -Chicken satay (Very good, with a peanut sauce that isn't overly heavy or overpowering like at some places) -Beef rendang (An incredible dish. We were both impressed by how rich and flavorful it was) Final Thoughts - I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant if you are ever in the area.

Some standout menu items: the kwetiau goreng tastes just like home, especially with the lapchong--yuuummmm so good! The kwetiau siram was equally delicious. The capcay, while not exactly like what you'd get in Indonesia, is still the best I've had in the U.S. On my most recent visit, I had the nasi ayam goreng, which also one of my favorites. The sayur asam is perfectly balanced, and the ayam goreng kuning is also delicious. What I really appreciate about Djakarta Cafe is the consistency--the flavors have been great for years and that's what keeps me coming back. And the service is always wonderful too. Shoutout to Lena, who always greets us so warmly!

We've walked past here many times but have never pulled the trigger, and we are so glad we did…read moretonight! They have been here for 2 years and 1 month as of April 2026. They have a pre fix menu mostly (it changes every month), but on Saturdays, they do the giant Liwetan communal eating, which is served on a banana leaf and meant to be eaten with your hands. Let me just start by saying that we are Hardena groupies. I have almost broken my phone screen trying multiple times to get my hands on a #notpizza box during the pandemic. This was the brainchild of Chef Diana at Hardena, and it was truly one of the only bright spots from COVID. Anyway, this is Chef Diana's own restaurant (her family still owns Hardena), and while the flavors and sambal (hot sauce) are very similar to Hardena, she makes Indonesian food truly beautiful with her creativity. The plating is that of a Michelin star / James beard winning restaurant. I mean, just look at this giant dumpling that is shaped so beautifully and then really imaginatively placed inside a red cabbage leaf in a bowl. I'm used to Indonesian food being served from a warming tray in takeout boxes so this really blew my mind. They serve three different sauces (2 sambals and a sweet one). Everything was spectacular, and the dishes keep getting bigger in the 5 course pre fixe (not including dessert, but this was a very nice size). Each dish was explained to us carefully and gently delivered by Chef Diana's wife. There are only about 6 tables so reservations are limited (and you pre pay). They do have a vegan menu, but you have to let them know ahead of time or else they have to scramble (which they graciously did tonight for a walk in). They also gave my mom tea when she asked for it, even though that's not something they normally offer. The interior is super cute and well-decorated, and that pink neon sign really shines nicely through the window. I will have to try to resist temptation every time we pass this (which is often), but I'm already thinking about when we can go back! Don't sleep on Rice & Sambal!

We got seated immediately and they had a variety of Malaysian items on the menu that had a little of everything and ones similar to other Asian cuisine dishes. Roti Canai - The piece of roti was huge, a big portion for 2 people which we enjoyed. The curry was light and a little sweet paired with the thin and chewy roti. Pad Thai - A very classic dish. It was mildly spicy which gave a good kick and it had the classic flavors being sour, sweet, savory and nutty at the same time. The noodles were a nice texture with the crunchier bean sprouts, the tender shrimp and chewy tofu. We also tried the Hainanese Chicken which was a bit different than what we were used to but it was still tender and soft.
