Imagine my surprise when my total was $88 (including tax). How was that possible for a platter that starts at $3.50 and each item is between $3-7? I paid my bill, looked at my email receipt and was shocked. There was a language barrier so I didn't quibble. However, the pricing isn't transparent - it's unclear what each item costs...and no matter how you do the math, it simply doesn't math. Basically, the guy dishing the food would show it to a man reclining in a chair and he would determine the price. Additionally, the Bain Marie is keeping the food at kids temp...only the curry chicken was hot. I could have lived with lukewarm overpriced food if it were delicious. But unfortunately it was not. It was borderline bland and required the sambal, which for some reason was also lacking depth of flavor. I know it doesn't have seafood explicitly in it, but the fish cakes and fish balls would do well with meatier broth. The fish ball and fish cakes weren't bouncy and tasted quite fishy. The tofu pieces weren't fresh but not spoiled to a point I needed to call it out. Maybe the only thing I liked was the texture of the noodles. My friend's N1 tasted more like a soy sauce based sauce. I didn't like that sauce nor the texture of her noodles, so I was glad to stick with mine. She preferred her's more too. Anyway, this is Chef Diana's own restaurant (her family still owns Hardena), and while the flavors and sambal (hot sauce) are very similar to Hardena, she makes Indonesian food truly beautiful with her creativity. The plating is that of a Michelin star / James beard winning restaurant. I mean, just look at this giant dumpling that is shaped so beautifully and then really imaginatively placed inside a red cabbage leaf in a bowl. I'm used to Indonesian food being served from a warming tray in takeout boxes so this really blew my mind. They serve three different sauces (2 sambals and a sweet one). Everything was spectacular, and the dishes keep getting bigger in the 5 course pre fixe (not including dessert, but this was a very nice size). Each dish was explained to us carefully and gently delivered by Chef Diana's wife. There are only about 6 tables so reservations are limited (and you pre pay). They do have a vegan menu, but you have to let them know ahead of time or else they have to scramble (which they graciously did tonight for a walk in).
