Local trains are available to Springfield and New Haven, but you can also catch an Amtrak for a further journey. Staff is as about as helpful as you'd expect them to be, but if you catch them on a nice day they might be alright.

We had a training to attend that started in Berlin station and went to the New Haven State Street station. Wanted to show us the ropes and it was a very nice experience. It was only like a 20 minute ride and very smooth. Great opportunity to be able to relax and not have drive to save on gas with the gas prices they are now. It was $6.75 for a one way and $12 round trip. Also there is the shore direction as well if you want to head down the New London way. I learned a lot and now I feel more comfortable jumping on the CTRails now.

The station is served by Amtrak, Hartford Line, and Valley Flyer. This new station opened around 2018. It's a beautiful building with an elevator and stairs to a pedestrian bridge. I liked that they had signs regarding the history of the station. It's handicap accessible. There were many benches and even a little free library. There were ticket machines, television screens showing the train schedule, and periodic announcements. Overall, it's nice train station and it was very quiet on the Saturday afternoon we were there.

In a sec they told me how many cars in my area, the closest one, how many minutes away. Photo, Name, license plate, color & model of car! I used it three times. No money exchanged hands, everything is done with your account. As long as you have your phone your all set to go!!!! Uber drivers take you anywhere ( nothing is too far & return you later) including NJ, PA... No cab driver moaning about how many fares he'll lose. I am a New Yorker at heart. I know my way around the city very well. Unfortunately there is always construction going on, but I know where I'm going.

But then luckily there was a bathroom on the New Haven Line 2. Barely any space. There's barely any space for the long trains so if you are getting off of it if your on Ty e wrong car you have to walk all the way to the middle to get off 3. Outdated ticket machines. They gotta replace these 4. The lobby is always closed during the evenings along with the bathroom so whenever it's cold we just have to stand out and suffer!

It's a quiet little station devoid of the crackheads who are rampant in Waterbury, so police presence isn't needed late at night - yeah, it's deserted, but on the same side, nobody's going to bother you walking to your car at the garage across the street because there's nobody there to bother you. However, if it's the weekend or I don't want to spend a zillion years travelling, or just need better service frequency, I'd take the extra 15 minutes to ride over the state line to Brewster. On the weekend the slight extra expense for tickets evens out when your round trip is 80 minutes shorter and parking is free. That said, during the week there are some direct to/from GCT trains during peak hours.

There is a commuter parking garage nearby on Main Street. It's affordable on weekdays (about $6/day), but heads-up: it's closed on weekends, so plan ahead if you're traveling then. It feels a bit safe here, there's usually a police car parked outside, and the station is pretty well lit. It's not fancy, but it gets the job done and the location makes it easy to get around.
