Greyhound Buslines have been a pillar in the community for years and I have been a customer with Greyhound buslines for many years and mostly satisfied. Recently, I have been really disappointed with the service offered. I always reserve my seat because I am elderly and want to be near the front. However this new Flix service is awful. I paid for a seat in the front of the bus but had to ride in the back, I also had a 4 hrs bus ride with no break. The customer service agent was rude and didn't care about my concerns. Checked my ticket yesterday and did not inform of a delay, get to the bus station at 7:10 while in my uber I checked my ticket and all of a sudden there's a delay for pickup at 10:40. I put my 86 year old mother on the bus and on her return trip, she was stuck in the San Antonio bus station for 5 hours while they waited for a new driver. She didn't get home until 1am. I would rate it 0 stars if that were possible. I was stranded in Waco on July 4th after arriving at the bus terminal 20 minutes before the scheduled departure time only to find that the bus had come and gone. I am blind and was depending on this bus to get home in Austin. I called Greyhound and was told the bus left the station at 1:47 (scheduled to leave at 2:10) and that it's up to the driver whether to wait and leave at the scheduled departure time. This is a fine and affordable transit option for going around Texas. We planned to visit Waco, so decided to do so with Greyhound Bus Lines. We had a 7:30AM departure, and the bus was slightly late, due to traffic. But we were able to still get to Waco at a fairly good time. The Austin location is located in north Austin, right off of a main highway. It was easy to find, and since we were here early in the morning, it wasn't as busy as I've seen bus stations before. Most people were heading with luggage to other major cities, like Dallas and Houston. However, there were a few people heading to Waco. And when we boarded, every seat was taken since people were en route to another destination. At the station were bathrooms and soda and snack machines. Seats were comfortable enough. Leg room was narrow, but what you'd expect for a non-luxury bus. I did see they had outlets in some of the seats, but unsure if wifi was available. I mostly slept on the bus ride, as with everyone else for the early morning ride. I would suggest taking Greyhound as an affordable way to get around Texas, if you don't mind the long ride. read more

Thankfully I never rode a greyhound bus, but I've had the misfortune of coming here so that I can catch a bus from another bus company. While I expect Greyhound to be the crappiest option for transportation, I try to avoid staying for long. The workers here are all miserable human beings. They cannot answer any questions without being rude, and many of them are as shady as the customers that frequent Greyhound. At the very least they consistently treat people of all backgrounds with contempt. The bathrooms are filthy, and the chairs are wobbly and hurt your back. The parking situation at the front of the station also sucks. Park at the back of the station where the buses are since no one ever thinks to park there. Just use your common sense and don't park at where the buses park. Who knows the amount of chewing out you'll be subject to by the workers if you do so. Most of the people here are either old or poor. As a result, I consistently see people that look like they would want to rob you if you weren't indoors. For some reason they all smell strongly of something whether it be cheap perfume, cigarettes, or drugs in general. Thankfully I schedule a ride before I arrive to Greyhound. If you don't have a ride, then taxis are parked outside. They are located outside where the Greyhound buses are parked. While I despise Greyhound, nothing can beat the convenience. But if you're wanting to be taken to a different state, then the prices are comparable to flying on a cheap airplane. Consider flying on a low cost airline such as Allegiant or American because it'll be much safer. read more

I had booked a Greyhound express ticket for 5:25 PM going to Houston. I get to the Austin Greyhound station at 4:30 PM, well ahead of my departure time. I stand in line around 5:15, confident I would be able to get on the bus, because my ticket, as the Greyhound express website says is "guaranteed." The bus is late 15 minutes, and when it finally gets here, I find out that there are no more seats available since they had overbooked the bus. I am initially told that they would try to get another bus for the 20 or so people that were unable to board, but soon realize that I would have to wait for the next bus at 8 PM. So, I wait the 2 1/2 hours for the next bus to Houston to come. When it finally comes, I notice it was not a Greyhound express bus, which is what I paid for. But since I just wanted to go home, I didn't mind. So, right as I am about to board, an Austin Greyhound employee announces over the intercom that our tickets needed to be changed because it was a different company that was operating this new bus. So, I am led inside to the desk where they change my ticket. While they're changing it, however, this next bus gets full, as the bus driver ignores the greyhound employee's plea to stop the boarding to allow the 5:25 PM travelers to board first. I am told that I would have to wait until the 10 PM bus now. When I asked the woman why she didn't change our tickets before the bus got here, so that we would have been able to board. She scoffs at me and says that "it would have been silly to change everyone when we didn't know how many seats there were." When I note that this doesn't make sense, since our tickets would have had to been changed eventually, so that we can board a later bus, she ignores me and walks off. While I am waiting for the 10 PM bus, I go to the desk, where I ask the employee sitting there, about potentially getting reimbursed/refunded for my troubles. Instead of trying to make amends or apologizing for the inconvenience, he condescendingly lectures me about how the seats are "first-come, first-serve", even though that is contrary to what their website says. ("We don't oversell our schedules, so this boarding pass will guarantee you a seat on your ticketed schedule.") Finally, at 10 PM, by pure luck, the bus that arrives is empty and I am able to board. My final arrival time is 1 AM, exactly 4 1/2 hours later than my original scheduled arrival time of 8 PM. In conclusion, I would just like to say that I was very frustrated not only because I didn't get what I paid for (an on-time, guaranteed seat on a bus), but also, because of the unprofessional manner and attitude displayed by the Greyhound employees in the Austin station for trying to make up for mistakes that were made on their part. I can say with confidence that is last time I will ever ride the Greyhound. Edit: They gave me a full refund, and a $100 credit for my troubles. read more

The worst bus lines ever. Booked a direct trip to Dallas and because greyhounds level of professionalism is 0 I'm on a bus with a layover, not to mention the bus was over 45 minutes late. The ac sucks. Seats are super uncomfortable. If you have no other choice but greyhound I would recommend walking or renting a car. Sitting on the bus I'm listening to a lady pretty much tell someone that she's had to change tickets and buses so many times that her original arrival time to her destination has changed dramatically. To add insult to injury the bus driver doesn't even know where she is going. Someone had to gps Dallas just so she could get on the right road. The driver doesn't even know where Dallas is WTF!?!?!? I wouldn't bother with them but my wife really wanted me to meet her in Dallas so she booked me a ticket with greyhound. This place silently makes you die inside. It infects with its service. The drivers, the information desk, the kiosks. It's cheaper than Megabus, but after 10+ times, I am doubting why I have continued this depressingly pathetic place. Drivers seem like they hate their lives, front desk couldn't care less, and the kiosks never work. The line for the information desk likes to move at a glacial pace. I've had a driver "google maps" how to get from Dallas to Austin and still got lost. They really need to update how they work. Can't just pull it up on your phone. I live in Mexico where transportation is easy and inexpensive. Coming to Austin to try to conduct business has been difficult. There are no good options to getting to San Antonio from Austin. The Legislature is too pitiful to authorize or build commuter rail transport. So the only option is to be stuck on traffic on I-35. I tried using Greyhound but their schedules are not convenient and they still are trapped on the automobile congestion on I-35. I purchased a ticket, spent an extra $20 to allow me to cancel or reschedule. Then when I called in to cancel or reschedule, the day before my purchased trip, Greyhound refused to do it. Despite what all of my friends said and warned, I gave this bad boy a try. Bad boys aren't always bad, right? Luckily it was a risk worth taking! I really think this is such an incredible resource. I booked an all inclusive trip out of Dallas with a friend who lives there and decided I would give the Greyhound a try. For $50 round-trip I got to sleep the entire 3.5 hours it took to get from Austin to Dallas. Nothing beats coming home from Mexico and not having to drive to Austin. Plus, with the price of gas you can't even drive for that cheap! Given there are some sketchy peeps in the actual terminals and maybe some on the bus, I felt entirely safe both trips. I have traveled by bus my whole life, and I can't recall having such a bad experience before. I bought a ticket from Austin to Harlingen. The price was not terrible, I'll give them that - $48 for a one way. The bus seats, however, were small, uncomfortable and barely reclined at all (a major con for an 8 hour trip at night). The air conditioning seemed to have only two available temperatures: same as outside or freezing cold. The WiFi that they so proudly advertise automatically logged out so often that I gave up trying to use it. The driver listened to loud music until about 2 in the morning. I wish I was kidding. The bus arrived at Mc Allen, and I coincidentally discovered that I was supposed to get off the bus there and connect with another one - no one bothered to inform me about that when I bought the ticket (in person) nor during the bus ride, I had to overhear two ladies talking about it and I barely made it out of the bus before it took off. My checked bag had been taken down the bus before I realized I was supposed to get off it, and taken to a back room. I had to inquire three different Greyhound employees during the course of 20 minutes to get a hold of it, and I'll tell you this much: I'm glad I speak Spanish, otherwise I might still be in Mc Allen looking for my luggage. Long story short: terrible. I've taken buses all over South and Central America and not a one of them was this bad. * UPDATE! * Confirmed, Greyhound is the worst transportation company I have ever traveled with, and yes, I have traveled by plane! My roommate and I were traveling to south Texas for the holidays. We didn't have a ride back so we decided to take the Greyhound. Bad call. First off, when I attempted to buy the tickets online I got a message saying I could not make a purchase with this card. I became concerned and checked my online banking; Surprise, surprise, the money had been deducted but the tickets had not been provided. Wonderful start. I called the number on their website only to be told by a considerably rude person that I'd have to call tomorrow because their customer service department closes at 7 Central. I should have given up then and there, but instead I bought the tickets with cash at a 7-Eleven (after getting my money back from the previous transaction.) So, on the night of the trip we got to the station with plenty of time to catch our 10:50 PM bus to Austin. Like the fools that we are. The bus had been oversold by roughly 15 seats. It arrived to the station basically full, and only the first few people in line got in. We were not informed that this was the case until we asked an EXTREMELY rude employee what was going on; his response to my complaint was "well, there are other companies you can go with." If only this were true... I asked another (also very rude) employee when the next bus was, she said it was at 11:30 PM and that it was also considerably oversold so "I better go stand in line if I want to make it." So we did. The bus arrived closer to 1 AM. Finally we were able to get in the bus and enjoy the Greyhound experience: uncomfortable seats, unreasonable number of stops, and yes, once again: loud music courtesy of the driver. There are, indeed, crazy people at the bus station, and it does smell strange. But how else would you get to central Mexico for about $150- $200 round trip? It takes about 20-25 hours each way, with a stop before and after the border. And you have official bus personnel dealing with border patrol and INS on your behalf. (Trust me, it's better to have a middle man.) That's how we got down to San Luis Potosi last May - going the bus route is not a shabby idea if you have at least a whole week to spend in Mexico (be prepared to use an entire day for traveling one way). Once you're there, though, you have the freedom of not worrying about a personal vehicle, and the bus system is wonderful for getting between cities. (Once in a city, though, you'll want to stick to a metro or the taxi.) I do suggest taking some Dramamine, a disposable pillow, and maybe even some sleeping aid. It's a long ride, and there's not much walking around you can do. And try not to drink too much water before getting on the bus. The bathrooms are a crapshoot. (Literally, too, I suppose.) read more

I have had a horrible experience with Greyhound bus lines. (214)849-8966 First, when we went to the bus station the person opening the bus station was late. The bus was there but the station attendant was late. Then, at the 2nd to the last transfer, their bus driver overslept and didn't show up for 6 hours. When my husband got to his next stop, they told him he had to wait a whole day before they could transport him the rest of his trip. I had to call someone to go get him because he had no money and he had no food. Originally, we were told they would refund $160 to us for the inconvenience. We had explained to them that I could have put him on a flight that would have been cheaper but that I did not because I wanted him delivered to Fort Wayne. My daughter is very sick and I didn't want her to drive to Indianapolis to pick him up. Instead, Greyhound bus dropped him 5 hours away. Now they tell me they'll only give me $40 back because that would be the price I paid for the missing portion of his trip. (The remaining 5 hours to fort Wayne from where they dropped him, which was going to take 24-hours now). They did not provide the service I paid for. They are not willing to compensate the miserable 24 hours or the night off work my son-in-law took to go pick him up. I will never use Greyhound again and I'd like everyone to know how poorly they treat their customers. A bus trip is always more miserable than flying anyways. It's Greyhound, what do you expect? It's like Megabus, but cheaper with a few more interesting people. The Austin station is smaller than the Dallas or Houston stations, so no hot food and overpriced sodas. The bathrooms are decent, and the workers were friendly enough. The biggest problem is probably Austin traffic - all the buses on the day I traveled were running late, and my bus didn't leave until about 30 minutes after its scheduled departure time. Greyhound should probably start factoring this into their afternoon departures. The station is located near 35 and city bus lines, which makes it easy to get myself home without bothering a roommate. This is my first time being on this bus going from Houston to Austin and I personally think that it is quite good, but the thing is when I got there late I asked them what should I do then the lady just ignored me completely. I'm a highschool student and I'm Asian so maybe that's why she didn't talk to me?? I could talk in your language you know, and I was dead worried about missing the bus, and you were just standing there looking at me. Excellent Customer Service I read alot about the complaints about poor customer service and I was dreding going in to buy my greyhound tickets today, but man was I surprised. Robert B. was outstanding and totally professional as well as outgoing. I had alot of questions because I never rode the Greyhound before, and he answered all of them with great help. He took time to go over all the buses and which one would be comfortable for me cause Im a big guy and went in detail on all the buses features and seating, even said if there was a bus there he would show me. Even the guy working with him to the right of him evenwas nice and gave his opinion on what would be better for me and my family on this trip. I didnt get his name but he was also professional and helpful. I dont know what kind of experiances the people below went through, but my experiance today....was absolutley relieving. I leave this Saturday to houston and now I feel more comfortable knowing I made the right choice in using Greyhound. I took the greyhound one way to Houston and it was not too bad. I had a convo with a random army man about his love life, had a seat to myself, avoided the smelly folks and the people playing loud music and the nasty bathroom in the back ( so maybe it wasn't nasty, I didn't want to risk it.) For quicky trips...OK, not a bad, and very cheap way to go. Problem. Long trips are living hell. I took it 12 hours to Oklahoma and ended up at 2 in the morning asleep on the floor in a San Antonio bus depot during some weird middle of the night stop over. All of us got sick on the return trip.
