Uneven cabinet reveals on multiple areas

Re: We would like to respectfully clarify a few points in response to Greg's reply message. Per Greg's direction, we were told to reconnect near the end of our project--specifically after countertops, finished plumbing and appliances were installed--so finishing work could be completed. Our appliances were installed in early May 2025, and we reached out accordingly, again during the summer and subsequent attempts without response, and again in December prior to move-in. At that time, we were told the remaining work would take approximately 1-2 days to complete. We have made consistent efforts over the past year to schedule completion, with extensive documentation (emails, texts, and call logs) showing multiple follow-ups from our side. There have also been several periods where we did not receive responses for weeks at a time. The cabinetry was largely installed in April 2025, at which point approximately 95% of the contract amount was paid as requested. Despite this, the project itself is not 95% complete and remains unfinished. To clarify, there was not a "9 month disappearance" as stated. There was a brief 2-day delay in April due to unrelated home issues, after which communication resumed and has continued since. We have an email acknowledging this from Greg with an apology. We also provided Greg with our contractor's contact information to coordinate final plumbing connections related to appliance installation. We have messages confirming this. Any difficulty connecting was not due to lack of access or coordination on our end. In December, after multiple attempts to obtain a timeline, we were told the project could be completed at the end of February. That timeframe passed without completion, and we were not proactively informed of any change or date. We followed up again and were told Greg was significantly behind on other projects and unable to provide a timeline. We then sent a formal request via email and text for a confirmed completion date and did not receive a response. At this point, several months have passed without a confirmed completion date for a project that has been largely paid for, which has been difficult to manage from a homeowner perspective. We have documentation of all communication and are happy to provide it for transparency if needed. Additionally, Greg is currently still in possession of some of our shelving, cabinet panels, doors, and mesh drawer components that we purchased. As of today, the remaining items include, but are not limited to: * Missing cabinet doors * Appliance panel installation * Mesh vegetable drawers * Missing and incomplete shelving (kitchen and living room nook, as well as inside cabinets) * Crown molding installation * Correction of uneven cabinet reveals (including at the island as shown in picture below) * Shelf edge banding/finishing showing exposed plywood and mismatched color * Visible gaps between cabinets and walls * Missing knobs and handles * Cabinet paint and stain touch-ups These items were expected to be completed to achieve the custom cabinetry finish that was discussed. We have photo documentation of these outstanding items. Throughout this process, we have remained professional and patient in our communication. All correspondence has been respectful and documented. We have made multiple good-faith efforts to resolve this directly, but to date have not received a confirmed plan, response to our formal messages, email or date for completion. Our goal has always been to complete the project professionally and bring it to a close. We have waiting patiently for months and still remain open to resolving this, but we do need clear communication and a confirmed plan and date to finish the work.

I cannot say enough good things about working with Greg for my Victorian kitchen remodel. The photos speak for themselves, his work is amazing. I had very specific details in mind and he met and exceeded every detail. The cabinets are not only gorgeous, they are very high quality and his prices were very reasonable for the quality of work. If you need custom cabinets, look no further.

Paint eroded after a year

I'm extremely happy to report that Greg reached out immediately after my previous review and came over within days to fix the paint issue I had noted earlier. He got new paint matched to what I had to account for the aging/oxidation over the years and applied it perfectly. The panel looks good as new and a perfect match. I cannot overemphasize how professional Greg is and how much he cares and loves his work. I will absolutely continue to refer him for his great work and outstanding service, even years later.

We had Greg add built ins around the fireplace, add cabinets on the back wall of the kitchen, and replace the hall cabinet doors. We got some really pricey quotes! Greg is very reasonable, reliable, great work ethic, and does high quality work. We are extremely happy with him. After our initial home remodel, we had a leak in the kitchen from a faulty dishwasher part. Nothing at all related to Greg, or anything having to do with the first remodel, just a faulty part on the new machine. Anyway, I contacted Greg to get a quote on the needed cabinets to replace the ones damaged - this is the other side of the kitchen, so luckily Greg's cabinetry on the back side is unharmed. Greg was very honest about his time line, he is busy, he does one job at a time. He said it would be awhile, I may not want to wait... I understood, and tried to get quotes from another place. Well, two people came out, but then we never heard from them again! So, I contacted Greg again and said we will wait! I know I am getting quality work, at a fair price, and by a very decent guy. If you decide to use Greg for your custom work, you will not be disappointed.

We hired Greg and his team to install a built in TV unit as well as a dining room Hutch. Greg understood our ideas and designed the perfect custom cabinets for us. Very satisfied with the outcome and the reasonable prices . Photo is of the Family Room TV /Entertainment cabinet.

Wonderful job building and installing our desk/entertainment center in our loft. Would definitely recommend and use again.

Poor Quality, Incomplete Installation & Lack of Communication…read moreVery disappointed with the quality of the cabinets and, especially, the installation. Unfortunately, what should have been an exciting kitchen renovation has turned into a frustrating experience. The workmanship and attention to detail were far below what I would expect from a professional cabinet company. The photos speak for themselves: Cabinet doors/handles were installed unevenly, with visible differences in alignment. Cabinet interiors were left with unfinished/incomplete work, including missing shelf-pin holes needed to properly adjust the shelves. There are visible holes, damage, and rough areas inside the cabinets that should not be present in a new installation. The backsplash/stone was installed without properly accommodating the existing electrical outlets, leaving the outlets without the necessary openings to install the cover plates. Several aspects of the installation appear unfinished and require additional work to make the kitchen properly functional and presentable. The installer had extreme difficulty communicating in English, which made it very difficult to explain concerns, discuss the installation, or have issues corrected as they were identified. What is particularly frustrating is that when I brought these issues to the company's attention, instead of simply taking responsibility for completing the installation properly, I was told that some of these issues were supposedly someone else's responsibility or would require additional payment. I paid for a professional cabinet installation. I should not have to accept visibly poor workmanship, incomplete installation, or pay additional money to have basic aspects of the installation completed correctly. The pictures included with this review are not minor cosmetic complaints--they show the actual condition and quality of the work I received. I strongly recommend that anyone considering this company carefully inspect every cabinet, door, shelf, handle, outlet opening, and finished surface before making final payment. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. Very disappointed with the workmanship, communication, and the company's handling of the issues.

This company must have so much business they are just not talking to new customers. I sent a picture of the area I need cabinets with measurements. He said he would get back to me that day. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were truly exceptional. The final result is stunning, and I'm already looking forward to working with them on future projects.

I originally hired James about 8 years ago when we first purchased our builder-grade home. He extended our kitchen cabinets, added crown molding, and completed additional wood trim and detail work. They did an amazing job, and James was wonderful to work with. Because of that experience, when we recently had a horrible leak that required us to replace our entire kitchen island, pantry, and flooring, along with a few upgrades I had been wanting to do, James was one of the first people I reached out to. His wife was incredibly nice, accommodating, and understanding of our situation. James came out the following Saturday, took measurements, and spent time discussing the repairs and upgrades I wanted done. Then--nothing. I was completely ghosted. If he was too busy to take on the project, I would have completely understood. If the project was too small or simply wasn't something he wanted to take on, that's okay too. But after being a returning customer and taking the time to have him come out, measure everything, and discuss the project, I feel like I at least deserved the courtesy of a response. I called James directly and left a voicemail with no response. His wife had also confirmed my email address before he came out, so there were multiple ways to simply let me know they weren't interested or available. It's really unfortunate because I reached back out specifically because of the great experience we had with James 8 years ago. I would have happily continued recommending So Cal Woodwork to family and friends. Unfortunately, after being treated this way as a returning customer, I can no longer recommend them. Such a disappointing ending to what had previously been a very positive experience.
