    Chicken soup
    Gail P.

I just love this place. I was in the mood for chicken soup so I decided to do takeout. I have to say they make a very good homemade chicken soup with dumplings. Tons of chicken that's always tender and I just love the dumplings very tasty. Service is always friendly as soon as you walk in that's all you smell is fried chicken. The food is awesome. Great place to stop when you're not in the mood to cook.

One of my favorites! Awesome place to eat! I always stop by this local restaurant when I'm in the area. I love southern fried chicken and chicken chunks! Best chicken around!!! Service is fast and prices are fair. They even have a cute little picnic area to eat outside.

If it wasn't due to my in laws who are local send me out to get food from here.... I wouldn't think to stop at this hole in the wall. You could wail at drive by this little spot but the inside is bubbling of the fryers. Prices are decent so worth supporting local. We got the fried chicken which was tasty. Also enjoyed fries (I like their thick crinkle cut) & coleslaw (standard). I never pass up pickle fries and was surprised to see they were full on spears deep fried! Tasty. Overall we ordered and got the hot food rather quick. Like I said... if it wasn't thanks to locals I don't think that upon first impressions I would have ordered here.

Plenty of CT restaurants serve very good bone-in fried chicken, but I've only been to one noteworthy CT restaurant where bone-in fried chicken is a particular focus -- Greer's Chicken in Bristol. Greer's is a longtime Bristol institution, and outsiders in the know make the trip to the takeout and outside picnic table only shack. In addition to tasty bone-in, Greer's has "chicken chunks", nuggets, fries and other fried sides, Mac N Cheese, Mashed Potaoes, and classic cookout sides like coleslaw, potato salad, and macaroni salad. All the sides (mashed potatoes, Mac N Cheese, coleslaw, and Macaroni salad) we tried were a cut or two above the normal. Over the course of two days, I tried a breast, thigh and drumstick. All high quality chicken. The breading has a minimalist vibe. I'm cool with that style. I could use a touch more seasoning, but I'm a fan of Greer's chicken. I like the chunks even more. Air fryers now make enjoying Greer's possible for a wider range of people. I live about 30 minutes from Greer's, but I air-fried the chicken pieces for 5 minutes at 360 and it was right on. I also put some Mac and Mashed Potatoes in a small oval Pyrex and air-fried them with the chicken. The sides were perfect after this re-heating. While I was waiting for my order, a woman came in and ordered THREE chicken pot pie's. I asked her why 3. She told me because "they're that good. And one is for a bribe." There you have it. A woman I don't know thinks Greer's has bribe-worthy chicken pot pies. 4.5 Stars

Really wanted to love this fried chicken since we were craving broasterant but they were closed. Initial reaction, I'm confused because it seems like a residential area but there's a fried chicken place? Heck yeah. Anyway, we initially ordered the chicken bites and a couple of wings to try it out before we ordered a bunch. It was ok. Not so much seasoning but the fry was solid. The cornbread I wish was warmed up. It was very thin and small but it was $0.85 so I guess it's ok. The potato salad was also good. Overall, they need to add more seasoning to the chicken. Still hunting for great fried chicken in the hartford county. ++ Staff was friendly.

First time I've been here in over a year. Absolutely disgusting! - Chicken chunks were dried out, almost like they were fried and then refried. The coating was extra thick and didn't taste like fresh chicken like it used too. - Southern fried chicken, again, dried out - overcooked. - My fault for asking for extra mayo... holy hell, they definitely gave extra mayo on my chicken sandwich. I couldn't even taste anything but the mayo - not edible. - Wings were dried out - and the Buffalo sauce tasted weird! - Positive side, fries were OK WASTED $80...

If you're looking for a place to get your chicken fix, look no further than Greers Chicken! Their tangy mustard chicken chunks are the stuff of legends. I swear, it's like they're marinated in gold or something. I can never get enough of that sauce, so I always make sure to buy extra on the side. And the fries? Let's just say they're so fresh out of the fryer, they're practically still sizzling. But the real star of the show here is the friendly staff and lightning-fast service. It's like they know I'm on a tight schedule and they're determined to get me my chicken fix as quickly as possible. Plus, you can support your local businesses and get a better meal at the same time! Do yourself a favor and head down to Greers Chicken today. Your taste buds (and your wallet) will thank you! *stick to the tangy mustard chicken chunks & you can't go wrong.

This place is so cute, and so good! It's located on the cusp of a residential area in Bristol, and I would recommend calling in your order ahead of time. The inside has enough room for a line of customers to order and pick up, and the rest is devoted to cooking. There are picnic tables outside, but most people seem to pay and go. (Then your car smells like delicious chicken) The corn bread is moist with a honey layer on top, and the mac and cheese is downright velvety. However, the star is their fried chicken. They come in bites and bones, and the bone-in chicken I personally think is the best. Even the breast, which so many places dry out, is perfectly coated and flavored throughout the meat.

It was never good after going there for a dozen years. Some people seem to like it, especially the chicken kidneys, but I'll pass.

They share a funky space with New Curds on the Block cheese shop in an old brick mill building. We climbed a rickety wood staircase in the back of the building to get into the shops. Don't enter through the front of the building or you'll end up in a karate dojo. They sell super fresh fish and shellfish - Atlantic Salmon, Yellowfin Tuna, Black Sea Bass (MA). Blackfish, Sardines, Pink Shrimp, Scallops, Soft Shell Crabs, Steamers, Littleneck Clams, Gem Clams, PEI Mussels, and Crab Cakes. You can order online and pick up at their Oakville Shop, Bantam Farmer's Market, or Washington Depot Farmer's Market. We swung by yesterday and had a hard time deciding what to buy. I was tempted by the soft-shell crabs because I never had them before. But ultimately, I chickened out and went for three of their big crab cakes. They were $7 each and worth every dime. They weighed in at 4 ounces and were PACKED with crab meat and very little breading or filling. A few minutes in the air fryer at 350 and they were as good as any I've ever had. As I said, they share retail space with the New Curds on the Block cheese shop (after all, the two owners are married), and after we bought the crab cakes, a wedge of Dutch Knuckle cheese, a tin of smoked mussels, some addictive Maple Toffee Almonds, all of the purchases rang up on a combined receipt.

The shop's name refers to an idiom that is used to express something being completely full. CONCEPT: The shop provides a curated collection of seafood, and associated seasonings, to Litchfield County. LOCATION: To the Gills shares a second floor corner suite with a cheese shop and knife sharpener. The suite is located in a building that long served as the site for Seymour Smith garden tool manufacturing. AMBIANCE: The shop is decorated with many unique items, such as an old cash register and oven. Tremendous windows line the time-worn brick walls of the former factory which had been built in the early 20th century. FOOD: The shop sells custom poke bowls and prepared chowder, crab cakes, and seaweed salad for quick meals. Shellfish, fin fish, smoked fish, and seafood seasonings are also sold, including uncommonly found fish such as parrot fish. SERVICE: Service is friendly and knowledgeable. TIPS: To the Gills also sells through the Washington Farmers' Market during warm weather Saturdays. There is no seating in the building, but there is a gazebo with two outdoor dining chairs and a side table in the parking lot. Neighboring Steel Creek has a bench overlooking the bridge. There is no elevator in the building. The second floor can be reached via an outdoor ramp that stretches across one side of the L-shaped building. To the Gills periodically serves raw oysters at neighboring Lasting Brass Brewery. Check the brewery's event calendar. To the Gills occasionally arranges informative events at the shop. In November I participated in a caviar tasting event in which eight different fish roes that are sold at the shop were featured and their provenance described. Follow the shop's Instagram account for future event announcements. A cheese shop (New Curds on the Block) and blade/knife sharpener are located in same suite.

I've known about this place for a while, and a friend reminded me that they recently changed locations. We were seated in the bar area at a high table and were given two menus: a happy hour menu that lasted until 6 PM and their regular menu. We figured we'd order a few things off of their happy hour menu while it was still going on, then move on to the regular menu after 6 PM, since we knew we'd be there for at least a couple of hours. We ordered a shrimp appetizer, gnocchi, fries, wine, and a white Cosmo to start. My absolute favorite was the grilled shrimp appetizer, even though the other two were very good as well. My friend's favorite was the gnocchi. From the regular menu, I ordered the ham and cheese croquettes and she ordered the regular cheese croquettes since she is vegetarian. We loved those as well. These four tapas were enough to serve as our dinner and we didn't have to order anything else. The service was fantastic and I thought that everything was priced very well. I liked that there was a parking lot right next-door. A friend met us. Later on for a final drink and mentioned that he liked this new location better than the old location. I would definitely return and try different tapas. Their entrées also looked very good. I really like this location because you can walk around and do other things after dinner in the area.

It was 3 of us that came out to celebrate my birthday and 2 of us ordered an entree and our other friend ordered tapas. We were all very happy with it. I had the grilled salmon and it was perfect! Since we got there a bit early we had enough time to order from the happy hour menu so we ordered Grilled Shrimp and Escargot and drinks of course. I love that they have a tray of desserts to showcase! Makes it easy or hard to choose from because they all look so good! I must say prices were good, service was wonderful, food was delicious! We all agreed we would go back!

The bad- I ordered take out via phone, was told 30 min. I showed up in 30 to find out they never put my order in. They offered me a beverage on the house which is great, but still sucks that I had to wait another 30 min. The ugly. The Cuban is not a Cuban, it was served on a plantain instead of bread, which had this been written on the menu, I would have skipped it. There was also no mustard on it. Thankfully I had some mustard and I removed the plantain to eat with a knife and fork. The other sandwich said it was chicken w/ sweet plantain, lettuce and tomato. It was very under-seasoned and again on plantains.. not a sandwich w/plantains. The fries were soggy at best. I really wanted to like this but I think they need to work out the rest of their issues. For food we ordered bacalaitos for the appetizer, they were smaller than traditional bacalaitos, but it was perfect for a starter & was surprisingly not too greasy. I had the Costilla de Res (short ribs) & risotto. The short ribs were very tender, falling off the bone, & full of flavor. The risotto was so smooth and cheesy it was delicious. My husband ordered the Mofongo with bistec encebollado. He said it was flavorful & the meat was tender. Overall there was great service, the vibes were on point, the food was delicious, & the drinks were great too. Only downside, I wish they were located closer to me lol.
