I'm in Hartford and had to check this place out! I ordered the six piece chicken wings with french fries and Pepsi, and it was a 10 minute wait . Without any seating in the restaurant, I took the boxed food out to my car. When I open the box of food there they were; the six piece chicken wings along with french fries that look like they were from McDonald's, along with the Pepsi The initial taste of the chicken and french fries revealed needed seasoning. Another words, no salt after they came out of the fryer. Once I applied a pretty good amount of salt, the crispy chicken wings just popped with flavor. The french fries were pretty good, fresh out of the fryer, and after the salt was applied, the fries tasted somewhere in between Burger King and McDonald's with flavor. In other words, they we're OK. This location is in a little strip mall across from the northwest police substation, on Farmington Avenue in Hartford. This was a great experience, and I really look forward to trying other things on this menu. If you feel like trying different; this is a great place to visit for great food reasonably priced. read more

As delicious as ever. I have to say, if they ever brought their chicken over rice to actual NYC (they could call it Hartford Chicken & Biscuits, ha), their cart would be a hit. It's such a different taste from what you get at the usual halal carts, and I think people would take notice. The ooone thing I'd suggest is that they get some real hot sauce in there. If you ask for hot sauce, you get packets of Yi Pin (like what you get with Chinese takeout), and if you ask them to just make the dish spicy, they mix in a sort of chili paste. Both work, but I can't help but think how good the real stuff would be here. The fiery stuff you get at NY carts. That's the ticket. read more

I was a little kid at my grandparents' house when I learned that, with a little attention, you can make ginger ale slushies in the freezer. I was at my age 25-26 apartment when one of my roommates brought home Jamaican beef patties. I was standing outside my office around 2001 when I first overheard some co-workers talking about pho. And today, while sitting on my living room sectional, I first heard about "New York Style Chicken and Rice" with White Sauce when I read Yelp friend Kara S's review of NY Chicken & Biscuits. I stumbled upon Kara S's review by accident. I was thinking about ordering a Chicken Philly from NY C&B when I saw it on DoorDash. Before I committed, I decided to check out NY C&B on Yelp. The top review was Kara S shouting out Yelper Neil T for turning her onto their New York Style Chicken & Rice. I've had types of chicken with types of rice before, but I had never heard of New York Style C&R. I kept reading more and more Yelp reviews and it was all "OMG. I can't believe their New York Chicken and Rice. Just like the Halal food stands in NYC.". "Their New York Chicken and Rice is as important as Franklin Giant's chicken parm grinder." "I just donated my kidney for some New York Chicken and Rice." I am very trusting when somebody raves about food. I quickly audibled from a Chicken Philly to New York Style Chicken and Rice. I even requested extra sauce like Kara S mentioned. Damn! NY C&B's Chicken & Rice was crazy delicious. Who knew? The rice has some dark color and flavor. The chicken is perfectly grilled, cut into tender pieces and also has a flavorful dark sauce. It's served with a salad on the side. And with the extra sauce request, the whole top is zig-zagged with tangy white dressing/sauce that reminds me of Alabama White BBQ sauce. The name is not that cool, but do not sleep on New York Style Chicken and Rice. I also ordered a biscuit since it's in the name. It was a really good biscuit. Kudos to NY C&B. The meal did not lose anything in the delivery process. NY C&B is definitely now in my regular DoorDash rotation. read more

From outside this place looks pretty insignificant. But you should go in and try their food. It's cheap and really good. Food tastes fresh. I like the grilled chicken over rice the most. I think the rice is basmati rice. Really long and flavorful rice. Grilled chicken is good. The best part of it is the white sauce. Always ask for extra white sauce. The more the sauce, the more the taste. I took a chicken cheese steak sub spicy. The sub has a lot of flavors. Best part of the sub is also white sauce. When you bite into the sub with the most amount of white sauce, it tastes the best. Their fries were excellent. Last but not the least is fried chicken. I lived in the bad part of East Cleveland about 10 years ago and learned what good fried chicken was. I was in Memphis last month and had real good fried chicken for the first time in a long time. Popeyes and KFC just weren't going to do it for me today. I asked a ton of people for recommendations but most of them I knew would be dead ends. I got here about 2PM so after the lunch rush and before dinner. I wouldn't be surprised if the chicken I got was an hour old. It was an hour and a half before I got home to eat with my family. Let me tell you. After all that time this was the best chicken I've had in a LOOOONNG time. Price was right. Nothing to complain about. Mashed potatoes were exactly what you should expect from a place like this. This skin was perfect. Meat was juicy. The employees in there were awesome. Absolutely love this place. Their chicken drumsticks are out of this world. The chicken cheese steak is to die for. As if they couldn't beat it, the chicken or gyro with rice and white sauce is amazing! The service is always friendly and they do their best to get orders out fast. The guys working this nyc-influenced shop are quite friendly, and I really wanted to like the chicken and rice I ordered. To keep it 100, it just wasn't quite it for me. Personally love the distinct taste found in the halal carts in nyc and at NY Chicken there was more of an East Asian influenced flavor, only further accentuated by the packets of Chinese duck sauce accompanying the dish. White sauce is provided, in actuality about 3x of that provided would've helped the dish some more to give it more of that nyc feel. The rice packed a good flavor, and was reminiscent of the spiced Basmati rice found at most Afghan restaurants. That in itself gives it an edge over what you would find in nyc. NY Chicken rocks their own take on halal and there's obviously a devoted fan base in Hartford. That's something we can all agree upon. read more

Reminded me of the chicken you might find at a gas station. So... in that sense, compared to real gas station chicken, it was ok. Seemed like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for awhile. Tried the chicken tenders as well. Decent enough, the weakest link being the super bland honey mustard in the sealed take-out mini-cup, the stuff was just so feeble that the chicken tenders tasted better without it. Word of advice to the owners, buy a better honey mustard, it will make all the difference in the world and cant cost THAT much more. Onion rings and french fries were ok, probably dumped out of a freezer bag into the fry-o-later. The 1/4 cheeseburger got a positive review as the best thing we tried. As far as 'bang for yer buck', this place has that covered. Everything was affordable. I'd say raise the price of the chicken nuggets by 25 cents and get better dunking sauces. I got take-out from NY Chicken & Biscuits recently, and I felt bad for everyone around me, as the aroma is drool inducing. The taste was just as good. I bought the 4 piece, as I was really hungry and didn't know how much I'd really be getting. Ultimately I would have been fine with just three, but I ate all four anyway and was rather stuffed. Threw away almost half of the fries as I just didn't have room, and the chicken was the star anyway. The fries were OK, but I like mine done a little more. The chicken, however, was super moist. Probably a tad greasy for some, but if you're worried about that kind of thing you should probably be avoiding fried chicken anyway. My only complaint would be that the hot sauce they serve wasn't very good. I'll plan on supplying my own until they replace it with something else (e.g. Frank's). The ketchup was OK (Hunt's), but comes in packets that seemed even smaller than usual. I asked for extra and still went through all of them. I'm also a ketchup glutton, however, so YMMV. TL:DR - Delicious fried chicken, bring your own hot sauce, definitely a take-out place (didn't have the tables in that one picture set up when I was there). We tried to go to this place on Sunday night during the posted open hours. When we arrived it was closed. Not cool guys. That said we figured we would try again. Ordered 3 items, the chicken and rice were "ehh" at best. Chicken nuggets were dry and bland. The fries were cold and lacking flavor. Last, which was most disappointing was that the steak and cheese I ordered either had rancid cheese on it or it was mayonnaise rather than cheese. I am going to choose to believe it was mayonnaise but either way after one bite I was totally disgusted. Location is okay, parking is not good at all and service was mediocre. I've been looking far and wide for some NY-cart-style chicken over rice and thanks to Neil I've found it at NY Chicken & Biscuits. It's not exactly what you'd find in NY but it's close enough for me. I knew of this place for years but really only focused on the fact that they have fried chicken. I was thrilled to see that they have much more than fried chicken, especially the chicken over rice. All I needed to do was text my wife a picture of Neil's recent dinner to get her to say "yes, bring that home." We both loved it. Next time I will ask for extra sauce to cover the chicken (not just the salad). This place gets you in and out in a jiffy. I am generally one to order my food over the phone prior to arriving but I wasn't sure how long it would take to get there (from my office in Windsor) so I just went in and ordered it...I was out in under 5 minutes, yay!! Solid comfort food! I checked this place out after reading a few reviews that were really stellar. This is your classic fried chicken spot with platters and sandwiches. I ordered a combination cheesesteak with beef and chicken (which isn't on the menu, but an order I've had in other similar restaurants). It was delicious, served quickly, and they gave a huge portion. Surprisingly, the sandwich didn't have any ketchup on it, which it definitely needed. I docked a star, becsuse of that and because the restaurant has no seating. Regardless, I definitely plan on returning to try some of their other popular items! read more

The cheese steaks are simple - bread, meat, cheese, but soooo good. Had high hopes for this place. Got the 9 piece mixed with fries, biscuits, and side of coleslaw. The chicken was hit or miss. Every other piece was dry. Some breast meat was moist some not. The flavor is good but different, not the traditional fried chicken taste. The fries had good flavor as well. Similar texture to McDonald's. But it wasn't crisp. The biscuits were a let down. They were dry and compact. The ones at Popeyes win because they're buttery and fluffy. The coleslaw was downright bad. Tasted vinegary and off. Should've known better. The value is there. On a quest to find the best fried chicken, I decided to start things off with NY Chicken & Biscuits. In excited and eager anticipation, I was elated to learn that it was right off exit 47 from I-84, less than 5 minutes from the highway. Parking is tricky if you don't land a spot in the small lot. Not even bothering with the parking charade, I saw other patrons winging it and just parking right on Farmington Ave, "yolo?" I was feeling crazy, so I went for the 9 piece. Explaining my quest for chicken, I had asked for some staff favorites. He recommended I try a combination of regular and spicy wings. With only two small dining tables, I opted for take-out. Hot and crispy, they weren't bad. But I felt that they lacked flavor. The fries are definitely fried in the same oil as the chicken which is nice, but altogether the fried chicken was a bit of a letdown. Speedy service and reasonable pricing might have me coming back for another try. But until then, my quest for some good ol' country fried chicken continues! read more

Really good fried chicken. Need I say more? Ok, I will... NY Chicken is located on Farmington Ave. in Hartford, near the main campus for Aetna. The first thing you'll notice is that parking is a challenge. The lot is small and there are other businesses in the same plaza. You may have to drive by a couple of times waiting for a spot, and if you have a big vehicle it can be a challenge to get in and out. However, the food is worth it. The restaurant itself is small, with only a couple of tables. It's primarily take-out with a variety of options. The star, though, is the fried chicken. I've been on a number of occasions, and the meat is always tender and juicy, the skin crispy and well-seasoned. It's greasy, sure, but not overly-so. The fries are solid as well, crunchy with some good flavor of their own. Prices are very reasonable, and service is quick if you need to pick something up to bring back to work. Service has always been friendly on my visits. Overall, this is a definite recommend, on par with Greers in Bristol for my favorite fried chicken in Connecticut. read more
