*I am their 100th review...heck yea!* Since I've taken a break from my 9-5, I've had a lot of time to go around getting fat at all the mom and pop restaurants in my vicinity. The Greenleaf Cafe is a family owned restaurant located in one of the many random shopping plazas in Whittier. My son and I stopped by on a rainy Sunday after church and the place was pretty empty since it was near their closing time. I had enchiladas and my son had a burger. I thought my enchiladas were pretty good. Service was great since there weren't many people in the place and the young hostess guy kept coming around making small talk. The next time we came was for breakfast and the place was pretty packed. We were seated in a remote corner and were kinda forgotten. I had the chorizo and eggs which were pretty good, the rice and beans could be better though. My son had the french toast and hash brown and he loved it! I think they are a pretty decent choice for breakfast but there are inconsistencies with service. I am a rice girl and this one wasn't the best. Overall, I think they are worth giving a shot so support your local businesses yo! read more

More to cheer about. A few days ago I made arrangements with the staff for my mom who is in her 80's to have a breakfast with her breakfast bunch in the large 2nd room yesterday. It's a group that meets every Tuesday at a Whittier icon and stays for a couple of hours to eat, drink coffee and visit. The group of 6 had a great time, good food, on-going refills of coffee and tea. Everyone felt comfortable. They were so impressed with the friendliness of the wait staff. Loved the lyonaise potatoes (who doesn't). And the acoustics and lack of crowding meant they could easily hear each other. read more

Tried it the other day for breakfast and will definitely be coming back. Ordered the machaca with eggs and rice (held off on the beans). The machaca was not greasy at all and the rice was delicious. We were promptly seated and served and our waitress was very friendly. The servings are a bit smaller than most places. But I think it is great because it reduces waste. After driving by our usual spot and noticing the huge line we decided to give this café a try. the wait was pretty long... about 25min. for breakfast. We waited outside and since you can see all the people enjoying their meal inside it made us even hungrier. also they did not go by the sign in sheet since we did see two couples walk in and sit down before us when we had clearly been there waiting. (that was a big NEGATIVE) the service was slow... not enough wait staff for how busy the establishment was. food was ok.... I order a bacon avocado omlette but all it was is scrambled eggs with bacon and avocado on top not an omlette. hubby had chilaquilles and he mentioned they were ok. Our FAVORITE breakfast spot in Whittier. Get here early, it gets crowded. I order the machaca with a side of their house wet sauce (it is named after one of the owners, I forgot the name of it) SO good! Their house potatoes and beans are perfection. The portions are just right. You do not feel like you are over eating. If I am feeling extra healthy, I will order the nopales topped with the red house sauce, instead of the machaca. My husband loves the red chilaquiles. If we lived closer, we would eat here more often. We eventually want to try the lunch and dinner, but for now we are so hooked on the breakfast. My fav thing here is the Chile relleno omelette! I come here once in a while but the service is always amazing! Everyone is friendly and the food is always delish! The menudo is the BOMB!! One of the best ones i've had. They are generous with the meat and hominy. The chilaquiles are also great!

I really did enjoy my meal here. I have to admit I was a little unsure if I wanted to go to this place. I wasn't sure if I wanted to try something new or just stick to something safe. I felt adventurous and wanted to try something at the end so I want ahead and decided to give this place a try. Let me tell you I was not disappointed at all as soon as I walked in the staff greeted me and they found me a table quickly. I looked at the menu and I was surprised that they have a variety of different items. I decided I wanted French toast and it was delicious. The bread was fluffy they really know how to make great French toast. I also wanted to get the enchiladas. They were good, the sauce needed a little bit more flavor and spice, however it was very tasty. I really did like the rice it was well cooked it wasn't too overcooked it wasn't too sticky, it had the right consistency. I definitely will be going to this location again. Best omelet I have ever had no doubt. They make this Chile Rellano Omelets with these potatoes and mouth watering beans. This diner was great. I was seated quickly. Ther server got me water immediately and helped me decide between Chorizo con Juevos and the Mucho Grandes pancake breakfast by suggesting I get the pancake breakfast with chorizo con juevos as my eggs. One of my favorite things about this place is that they open early enough to get breakfast before 8am if need be! This place has your classic mix of Mexican and American breakfast options and I must say that it is super reasonably priced, and the food is brought out super quickly. My family and I went here for a late lunch this past week. My Brother and sis-in-law had heard on FB that it was really good. Unfortunately, it was very bland, very disappointing. Whittier has some great Mexican restaurants this is not one of them. I tried the chili verde and the salsa and chips. Best thing was the chips. This looks like a family owned restaurant in Uptown, Whittier. Because it's a family-operated restaurant, service tends to be a bit slower. Not place was not that full when I came (around 9:30AM), and it took a long time before someone came over to service me. They had three specials going on when I went. I got the Ham Steak and Eggs with Hash Browns and Toast for $6.99. I also got a coffee for $1.99. Food was cheap, that's for sure. But that comes at a cost of its deliciousness. There was not much taste to the ham. The potatoes they used for the hash browns were fresh, since I can still taste some of it in the middle of the hash brown. The toast was okay. Even though I said white bread, the bread didn't seem like it was completely white. They also have Mexican food here too, which I didn't get a chance to try. What can I say besides Ridiculous Amazing Yummy in the Tummy Mole!!! Service was great very friendly happy and prompt service. I ordered Mole Chilaquiles and they were so yummy! Mole is a hard dish and a lot of place's do not do a good job at this dish. However this place has the recipe down. The beans were the best I've had in a long time, and if the beans are good usually everything else falls into place - in this case it did. Came in for the first time today for a large bowl of Menudo. All the appropriate condiments arrived. Onion, limes, cilantro with the oregano and red pepper flakes already on the table. Yes, the menudo was delicious. The chunks of tripe were well cooked and the red broth was amazing. What made the meal that much better was the service, attentive and courteous. This place has a wonderful atmosphere. The employees are always on the go, making sure everyone is taken care of. On top of all of this the food is delicious. I always order the Chile Verde omelette. My family has very specific orders (picky family) and they always get it right! I'd like to call attention to our waitress from this morning, Joana. I was there with my girlfriend's and right away tried to get too comfortable with us that it came off as very rude. One of my friends wasn't sure what she would order and he said, "Your too picky".
