I need to try more food here & add more reviews. This was my first time, got Mediterranean potatoes & a chicken kabob. Chicken was a little dry, but the flavor was good. The picture on the menu of the potatoes shows a pile of feta cheese; you only get MAYBE a quarter of that (more like a rounded teaspoon). Hopefully my next review will be better; going to try the shrimp &/or beef kabob and rice pilaf. The restaurant should relocate to a bigger place. There's a long wait for a table, and if you eat there, there are people standing 2 feet or closer from you either in line to order or waiting for their order. One of my favorite quick bite Mediterranean place in Downey. My BFF and I have frequented the place since it was located at LBTC. The service is friendly and their sauce is amazeballz! Although they have a variety of food such as lamb, chicken, vegeterian plate, my usual is the shrimp and filet mignon kabob. Cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful with a side of fresh, delicious hummus! Yummmmmy! I usually get the chicken kabobs for my babies while my BFF gets the shrimp or vegeterian plate. The service here is truly exceptional! Both servers that came by were very courteous and even the manager came by to see if we were enjoying the meal! Even an employee that wasn't on the clock came by to see how we were enjoying the meal! This is the kind of place you really want to see succeed. No doubt about that. The place looks nice! It's flavorful but to me it seemed like it doesn't really have the right combination and or proportion of spices. I am quite used to what good kababs are supposed to taste like since I have been eating them for a long time now and my father is a big fan of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine. I have eaten upscale versions in West Los Angeles and Glendale, versions that cater to the Middle Eastern businessman community in Vernon and even cheaper versions. I was determined to give this place a few more chances before I gave it my final rating. I came here when it first opened. I was so excited that a Mediterranean place opened up in Downey. I've loved this style of food for years, ever since I met my best friend (Middle Eastern/Egyptian) and tasted her mom's cooking. Green Olive food is ok. I honestly can't put my finger on what it is that makes it just "OK" and not sublime, tasty, or delicious. I will admit, I haven't tried any of their chicken, lamb, or beef, so maybe those dishes are tastier. I only eat vegetarian, vegan, or seafood. I've ordered their vegetarian platters which include hummus, babbaghanouge, taboule, falafel, and dolmades. My main complaint is the vegetarian platter comes with one small round pita bread. Just. One. I need more than one. I've never been to a Medi/Middle Eastern eatery that gives only one piece of pita. I would remedy this solution by asking for more pieces, but I usually get the veggie platter to go and I come here so infrequently that I forget they only give one piece of pita. I remember the first time I came I let the manager know that he had an unfavorable review on yelp that seemed like a troll (no photo, no other reviews) and he was so defensive and upset, you would have thought that I was the one who wrote the review. I tried not to let that experience sour my opinion of Green Olive, and gave it a few more chances. I've had the shrimp dishes here. The spicy potatoes are too spicy for my taste. I won't ever have those again. There was also the time I sat in front of Green Olive and called in my order. The girl on the phone let me know my order would be ready in 20 minutes. 20 minutes seems a lot to me for a dish where almost every item is cold and just needs to be slapped on a styrofoam to go plate. Even hot dishes at most places I order to go are ready within 10-15 minutes. Another time I asked if I could replace a side (the spicy potatoes) with another side. I was given the replacement (hummus) at an additional $3.00 for a scoop of hummus. Green Olive, I'm sure you have fans. I wish you well and hope your business prospers. I gave you a chance, and I'm not sure you passed the test. This is not a place that begs my palate to return for more. BEWARE: delivery costs $5 a plate! Highway robbery, eh??? And it really sucks they don't disclose the price upfront when we order. We ordered twice for our office and it wasn't until I checked the receipt during our 2nd order that I realized the built in delivery cost. Our 1st order was 4 plates = +$20 to our bill and our order the following week was 3 plates = +$15. Sure, it was the company card that paid for it but damn! We never expected free delivery but $5/plate for a 3 mile trip is outrageous. Especially when most of the items we ordered range from $8-10. How's the food? Well, I thought their chicken kebob plate (~$12) was only alright. Their chicken kebob was terribly dry so I definitely would not get it again. I liked that it came with rice and salad and pita bread. I also tried their lamb wrap ($9) and eggplant wrap ($8). I would definitely get their lamb again - very tender. The eggplant wrap was good too but not a huge fan of the chunk of cheese. You also get some garlicky potatoes to go with it and their garlic white sauce in general was very good. They are definitely pricier for Mediterranean food but it is probably on par for the area since they don't have much competition. I've definitely had much cheaper and better. Unfortunately, on principle, our office will never order from them again and I will personally never stop by even though it is on my way home, which is a shame because I really did enjoy their lamb wrap. read more

Very impressed with how clean and new everything is. Even the bathrooms are clean and all the employees are very nice and well mannered. Hence why I gave the lady a little tip. They still have to serve and clean up after you, so tipping I'm sure is much appreciated. I ordered the chicken kabob and filet mignon, and a few extra sides. Total it came to about $15. Which I felt wasn't bad considering it was a lot of food and the quality of it was very fresh and good. My chicken was all white breast meat, the filet it self had no fat on it. The plate came with chicken, filet, hummus, yellow rice, salad with dressed with a white kind of garlic type dressing. Everything was cooked and grilled the way I was expecting it to be. So overall experience of dining here met my expectations. The food was fresh, nothing was greasy, the yellow rice was delicious and fluffy and perfectly cooked. A decent place to eat is hard between DTLA to Downey if you're looking to venture out of Latin cuisine. Growing up in Downey, I would always frequent LA and OC. It replaced Penguins and even though I'm sad about it, I still have the memories of my childhood rollerblading over to get some soft serve. Green Olive is now Cafe Opa's competitor. But then again, they are far enough from each other to cater to different parts of Downey. Green Olive is in North Downey (the nicest area) and Cafe Opa is in the less nicer area. :) The gyro and baklava is better at Cafe Opa but overall, everything else is better at Green Olive. This place is such a gem! I'd bookmarked the Green Olive awhile back. Bf was browsing through my list and offered to take me here for lunch since we hadn't had Mediterranean food in awhile. Green Olive is located at the corner of a strip mall and I wasn't expecting much of an ambiance, but this place was really nice! Very clean, nice tables, comfy chairs, and there was even seating outside. We choose to sit outside since the weather was so wonderful. We ordered at the front counter and then food was brought to us. Originally, I had wanted to try the filet mignon kabobs, but bf suggested the Green Olive platter ($13.99) since there was a variety of meats on the plate. The platter had chicken and beef kabobs, a kafta kabob and two falafels. Comes with a side of rice, salad and a pita bread. We also ordered a home-style spicy potatoes ($3.99). More then enough food! Food came out fast and everything was delicious! The meats were juicy. The rice was flavorful. Even the yogurt dressing on the salad was really good. The home style potatoes were very flavorful. Cooked with garlic, lime, herbs and jalapenos for a spicy kick. Really fresh, flavorful and good quality food. Service was also VERY good. The waitresses came around multiple times to ask if we needed anything else, even though we were sitting outside. They even offered to refill our waters and this isn't really a sit-down service type of place. The manager even walked around asking how we liked our food and if she could do anything for us. Some of the best Mediterranean food around in all of the East Los Angeles area. I come here at least once a month and I'm never disappointed. The quality of the food is top notch. The meat is always tender especially the Lamb, the chicken is juicy and flavorful, the gyro and chicken Shewarma is also a must, and dont even get ne started in the rice from here. Their Hummus is a staple, and dont forget to ask for extra Garlic sauce/ paste. Who knew that Downey is a Mecca of Mediterranean cuisine? Err...the reason I said that is because we had to pick one from 3 Mediterranean restaurants in the area to get our Mediterranean food fix. I'm sure glad we picked the right one. So you order at the counter, then you become a vulture because you have to find a place to sit. There are only a few tables and chairs. The place is so inviting and welcoming that you want to stay, but again space is limited. We parked ourselves at the counter in view of the cooks preparing our meals. Delicious! Hummus, salad, rice...yum! Love the lamb, chicken, kofta... I've not tried the desserts because I am often happy and full afterwards. One of the two Mediterranean restaurants I've tried. This place is pretty good for the price. Always busy especially on the weekends. The servers are very friendly and attentive. I like that. I get the feeling the one of the guys always in the front is the owner and he keeps a tight reign on how things are run. If the customers are happy, they'll keep coming back. I've had authentic (off brookhurst in Anaheim) and it's a hit or miss out there because of the authenticity and one thing I'm not a fan of is lamb which is huge in this cuisine so what I love is when you buy chicken or steak from Green Olive you don't get the essence of lamb on your meat from a shared grill they separate it so each meat has its proper flavoring. This was my boyfriend's first experience with Mediterranean food and he absolutely loved it and we ate it twice in a month! The combo plates are served with their fluffy rice, cool and creamy hummus and fresh green salad with zesty green goddess like salad dressing along with warm pita bread Along with the golden garlic dip! It's all so delicious and a festival of yummy flavors in your mouth! They even let me do all salad before when I've been counting carbs. Love this place! The first time I came here for lunch it was a disaster. Service was terrible so I waited a while for my food and wasn't able to enjoy it because I had to go to work. It was an awful first experience. So why give this place 5 stars? Well for one, the food was great although the service wasn't. I do recognize they just opened a few weeks ago and it might take some time to work out the kinks. Upon my second visit I was convinced that this place is considerably one of the best Mediterranean places I've tried. I phoned in a late night order and was able to quickly pick up my food before they closed. Glad there was no problem with the service then, especially since no one was really there at that time. I most recently came here with my friend for lunch last week. I ordered the gyro sandwich special. Really good and I would definitely order it again. I also really like their chicken kabobs! It came with side salad, pita bread, rice, hummus, and side sauces. Everything was delicious. In the beginning I was going to save half for another meal, but I couldn't resist and ate the whole thing :X The meat was well seasoned; the rice was perfectly cooked; the hummus was flavorful and creamy! The garlic sauce that comes with the meal was also great. I had lots of it. Even though my boyfriend complained about my breath later that evening. Next time I will still smear that garlic sauce on my pita bread! Personally I wasn't too fond of the green sauce, but that's because I don't like cilantro... so if you're a fan of cilantro the sauce will add another flavor to your already fantastic meal!
