I came in today for dinner with my extended family, we were a pretty big group. The service felt very slow especially for our group. We would see tables with 2 people get their food before us even though they came after us. We had trouble waving down our waiter to get water refills and majority of us got down with our meals before the other side of the table got their food. We also alerted the manager for refills and they had alerted our waiter but it still took longer. At the end we got our checks messed up with a couple of people in our group. It overall took a longer experience than anticipated. I think our waiter was not ready to serve for a table of 13 so it wasn't the best. I had ordered the desert fire pasta, which was pretty good. Had a couple of nice meals at Green Mill in Bemidji while I was visiting for a business trip. The space is big and open, with great views of Lake Bemidji. The food was good across the board. The standout for me was the chicken and wild rice soup. It was savory, hearty, and really satisfying. Perfect comfort food, especially on a colder day. Service was excellent. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. Special shout out to Jalynn and Lexi. They were both attentive and kind, and made sure we had everything we needed. We had a booth with a beautiful view of Lake Bemidji. My pan fried walleye had a large portion and was delicious. I had a side of wild rice that was moist and had excellent flavor. It was a very busy Thursday night with a convention in town but the service and wait time were great. Please note that if you have a boat or large trailer you will need to park in the boat landing next to the hotel as no large spaces are available. I had the best Mother's Day here, from beginning to end. Everyone was cordial, polite and helpful. The food was fantastic, especially the vodka chicken and the salmon. We are elderly couples, who sometimes test the patience of younger folks,but not here. The service was excellent. Staff checked in with us frequently for coffee, water, etc. We had a couple of incidents due to our unsteadiness. Staff immediately assisted without injuring our pride. When they get the rigatoni pasta right, it's great. I've regular-ed here for just under a year now, always ordering the same thing. Up until about 4 months ago, everything was great, pasta was always excellent. Since though, the pasta has been completely inconsistent in its flavor profile. Sometimes there's way too much red sauce or way too much white sauce. Sometimes it's too spicy or no spice (which has been explained to me that it says "a pinch" and therefore makes it easier to understand). I've had undercooked noodles, garnish/no garnish, too much cheese/too little/none. The ways this pasta has been made wrong has numerous ways. The employees have always been accommodating, kind, and helpful. Management, not so much. When I asked that the recipe was followed exactly (ordering delivery and didn't want to have the driver drive over another), I was met with, "they always follow the recipe exactly." It's almost always different in taste and appearance, it's not followed exactly, but that's not what I have a problem with! It's the snark of someone who clearly doesn't order this pasta regularly to have this problem. As much of a pain as it is to send my food back and get a new one, I don't mind it most of the time. Just wish I was met back with the decency of believing me when I'm stating clearly that there is an issue. If you're looking for a consistent food chain option, Bemidji Green Mill is not your guy. read more

Went to the Green Mill on the Fourth of July. It is THE place in Bemidji to go to watch fireworks. We got a great table with a panoramic window overlooking the lake where they set off the fireworks. Unfortunately their pasta machine was broken (this happened last year on the fourth too , hmm) and most of their menu is pasta. Settled on burgers and beer. $150 for three plates and drinks with tip. Burgers were very good, but not $150 good. No onion rings or chips. Fries were the only option. Service was great for the level of business. read more

The feel is summer vibes; lively and upbeat, with a beautiful lake view and outdoor table service. There are some quiet spots in the large dining area away from the bar area, which is usually quite busy. Seating options vary. Ok so I really wanted to give this a 3 star but I very much loved the new homemade mozzarella sticks so that earns you a 4, your welcome. Let's talk about some of the bad before I end with good... The service I experienced was poor. Our waitress would pretty much run up to the table and speak very quickly asking questions before promptly running away again, and it was not that busy. Then when my girlfriend picked up her last fry the waitress swooped in and took the plate, so there my girlfriend was with food in her hand and no plate. The best employee was probably the guy running the front. Now good... Food is always good. I've never had the pizza which is apparently very good. Like I said before I love the new mozzarella sticks which are a good price for quantity. I enjoy finishing the diabolo wings that my girlfriend doesn't, and the 4 cheese burger is very good, however small in size. One thing that stinks is it cost $50 for 2 of us to eat and with 1 appetizer, so the price was a let down. Overall, a place I'll eat at in Bemidji and not complain a whole lot. read more

Service was quick and helpful because the menu was not up to date at the hotel. Food was good. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and an apple pecan salad. After a long day of sight seeing around the pristine wilderness areas of itasca state park, my wife and I were happy to get a quiet table by the windows to look over the dark water of lake bemidji Our server was very busy being as this place is situated in between two hotels and it was a Friday night. He was patient and offers me a beer sample of one from the tap I was unfamiliar with and my wife was able to get her Guinness. She ordered a calzone to get it started ASAP and gave me time to look over their menu. I chose the chicken asparagus stir fry bowl with a quinoa and brown rice base. I had average expectations because post covid and the fact that I was basically in a hotel dining situation. Our food arrived right on time according to my internal hunger watch. I asked for a extra side of soy in case this stir fry needed a bit more oomph. Well it did, though not very much as the flavor was above average and the addition of the jalapeño gave this bowl a spicy kick I enjoyed. My wife was equally pleased with the calzone and as we ate we discussed our options for the next days adventure. I felt like I had made all the right choices here. read more

There were onions bigger than a spoon and it's hard to get the right bite. If you are just throwing it all in the oven they NEED to be smaller, crunchy as hell. For $18 to get the five fillers I wanted it would have been nice to come with a side salad but overall a nice experience for a chain in BFE MN. Bartenders were MN nice plus Canadian nice. That's nice, you betcha. Lighting was wonk, see pic. Felt like interrogation lights and those dressing room lights that make you run home and cry. I often visit Green Mill & have not had a bad experience or bad food to this day. Boneless wings are good, good burgers. Walleye is great, desert fire pasta is great. The stir fry is great. Shrimp bruschetta was my favorite I don't think they have it any more. Nachos are good. They add special menus items pretty often & they've always been great. Great chefs back there! read more

It was really good and the service was quick - the kid behind the takeout counter was just back from the summer away and he was super personable and friendly. I could have done without the hostess' snark when I asked if I could place an order for take out - both guys were on the phone and she said without a trace of a smile "over there - under the 'take-out' sign". I didn't come in from the front, I came in from the hotel and did not look up behind the counter, only saw that the guys were on phones and she wasn't. Only thing that kept this from being a 4 or 5 star - in the service industry, service matters PS - passed the kid who took my order coming back from break on my way back to the hotel.
