One of my fav tea merchant in town. I love that I get the option to buy mini bags of loose leaf tea to try out diff teas without baking the bank. Mini bags are around $3 and can usually brew like 10 cups of tea depending how much tea leaves you put in your tea. One of the must try is their sweet dream tea for a night time tea. Best tea merchant in Vancouver, if not in all of North America. They have incredible blends that are just unbeatable. The rose black tea, ginger, and the sweet dreams are my three favorites. I live in Asia, and stock up on my tea every year from this store. The service is great, they are incredibly helpful, have excellent recommendations, and it's basically the epitome of a small, locally owned store. You can't get this kind of service anywhere else. I'm so glad I found out about them, and plan to keep getting my tea here. read more

This is a gem if you are looking for great quality tea. I tried many earl grey tea wherever I see tea shops, this place is the only tea shop that has the double cream earl grey that doesn't leave that bitter almost sour taste from over processing the tea leaves. It's such a little shop that I would pass by, but the aroma of their tea was so fragrant that I had to stopped and sniff! Highly recommend this tea shop for their quality. I will definitely make my way out there for more other ones to try. They have a good selection of black, green and roobios! Even their earl grey roobios is very tasty with the right balance of fragrant and richness of roobios. read more

I love tea and coffee. This past week on my way to Donald's Market I saw the sign that this Tea shop was open so I just HAD to go in. I was hoping to find something that I would enjoy as a treat for ME, because you know it's all about me. Unfortunately you can only get to it at the moment if you go through Donald's but that's not really an inconvenience. So the fiancé and I went there and I have found a loose leaf tea that I could get down on one knee for and propose (metaphor provided by the sales associate). It's called Chocolate Mint Rooibos and holy hanna it's the bestest thing EVER. Of course this isn't the only tea option. They have, wait for it, a Great Wall of Tea!!!! The fiancé already knows that I will be back and spend more of his hard earned money there but that's ok. It's the best deal in town. I got 100g of the tea for $8. When I compared the other tea I have purchased for the price he realized that it was fantastico! read more

I am very impressed with this little tea store. I can see how they got the design inspiration from a bar in the way you can sit at the counter and drink your tea. It works really well, and the entire store doesn't take much room at all. If there isn't room at the counter for you to sit, the River market does have quite a few tables to enjoy your tea at. The décor of the store is fabulous. They have all their tea in large cannisters stuck to the wall with magnets; on each of these cannisters is a large picture of a teacup. It is visually appealing and neither overly tacky or feminine. There is a plethora of tea available, and while this is great for choice, I always get uneasy about how long some of the unpopular tea could have been sitting there and getting stale. The tea themselves, after I inquired, are from many blenders, growers and distributors. There is also a few that they blend themselves, and I am "pretty sure" the River market is one of them. I spied a few from the metropolitan tea company, and the owner remarked that she sells a tea that is distributed by a local who actually goes to the tea plantations in China to see the conditions of the workers, work, and etc. For those who are ethic conscious about worker/environment conditions, Great Wall Tea Company might appeal to you (personally I am a horrible person and that doesn't really sway me either way.) I had the pleasure to be served by the owner of the store herself, and she was very gracious. She was incredibly patient with us when we ask for tea after to tea to smell, all while helping a number of other thirsty customers. She was also very knowledgeable about tea, and was quite willing to answer questions, and give suggestions and recommendations. The downside of this little store is that it is mostly a store and not a restaurant. There are no teacups or spoons, and you have to fight other shoppers to sit at the tables away from the tea counter. The ambiance is only as good as the River market (which does not include music or non-greasy tables.) As for purchasing the tea to take home, I found the prices comparable to most other tea shops. No great deals or savings, but if you want to have a lot of choice of tea without having to visit various locations, then you would do very well to stop by here. read more

Truly the best value, and the best tea I've had. I wasn't really a tea person until I discovered Great Wall...now, it's several cups a day!!! Macha macha macha. Their macha is fantastic. I've bought both the organic, and the regular. To me, I didn't really find much of a taste difference, so I'm sticking with the regular. Their Cream Earl Grey is much more potent (and BETTER) than the Cream Earl Grey I purchased at Granville Island Tea Co. Can't wait to get some more! Also have had the Organic Peppermint which is so flavorful!!! read more

Totally worth every penny spent here! Absolutely zero fake ingredients, no fake flavours added ( cough* David's tea), organic and non organic options. I have 5 favourites at least here. Golden glow - turmeric tea - to die for! Fruity and amazing in colour. They have lots of great iced teas that need zero sugar to taste ever so delightful. The staff stuff your tea bags full and send you home with a great selection. Sometimes they might even surprise your with a complimentary tea just to make your day- those angels! read more

My caffeine of choice is usually coffee, but in River Market, the tea wins. This is just the sweetest little nook to get a pick-me-up. You can sit at the bar, peruse the long list of teas at length, and when ready to order, the staff are just so lovely and friendly and helpful. As the weather gets hot out, the Great Wall is getting to be my place for ice tea. On a recent visit, they not only recommended a fruity tea that was perfect chilled but also gave me a free top-up or two as I enjoyed it at the bar. You have to love this place. read more

I'm a huge tea nerd; I literally have 423 different kinds of tea in my house right now. So when I heard about the Great Wall, I had to check it out, and did for the first time about eight months ago, and a few times since. The staff each time were as helpful as they could be, and I even had someone affiliated with the company message me to ask me if I'd review them elsewhere. I'll share here what I did with them: they need full ingredient lists for all of their teas available online and in person, and some form of online ordering. Last I checked, online ordering was having to email for an incomplete PDF, and then email your wants and wait for a call back. I offered to help automate their system for free (okay, maybe in exchange for some tea), but they declined. To my knowledge, this issue still stands. The ingredient list was offered up to me about a week after my first visit, however as someone with allergies, I needed it updated regularly and offered when I walked up to the store... Which it wasn't (not available the staffer told me) the last time I visited about six months back. Myself and my other tea adoring friends would make a point of coming here often and spending a fair amount of money were these things changed. Otherwise though? It's a cute store with some decent and interesting offerings that I've yet to find elsewhere locally. read more

I happened to be in the neighbourhood and when my BF felt unwell so we went into the River Market for something that might ease an upset stomach and came across this little tea shop or I should say tea bar. The art work and overall feel of this place is beautiful. The tea is fresh and delicious and the service is friendly. Not only that the prices are just for a fresh cup of tea with actual tea leaves! I got a nice cup of chamomile, and my BF got something to ease the stomach pains. It's a lovely little tea place and I would highly recommend it. They have an excellent range of flavours and also serve lattes. If your in the River Market give it a shot it will be worth you time. read more

Def a fan! I mostly frequent David's Tea, but I am open to any type of loose leaf goodness. Located in the Quay Market in New West, it's not too far from home, but makes me feel I made the 40 minute trek to Granville Island! The shop is more like a large stand. Wooden bar to sit on and assortment of teas on the wall (I absolutely adore the designs of each tin can that holds the teas!). Full tea menu available. My boyfriend ordered the creamy Earl Grey latte (which was delicious, of course. You can never go wrong with Earl Grey) and I chose to have a Pumpkin Chai Latte as recommended by the barista. The scent of the loose leaf was spicy and strong, however, the latte wasn't. I don't know if it was how it was made, or if the scent was deceiving. Although my drink didn't live up to my expectations, the Earl Grey definitely did. Will be back! read more

I love my tea and I was excited to find Great Wall Tea last year in the River Market. The store is literally flat against the wall, with cans of tea leaves filling the wall . They offer a large range of tea at very affordable price points. They are one of the few places I seen that offer affordable organic tea and white tea. They also offer some of the more rare teas that you can't find in other whole leaves stores, such as hojicha and genmaicha tea. Another thing I love about GWT is that they offer mini size if you want to just try a tea without a huge commitment. This is very useful if you are unsure whether you would like a tea or not. One of the few things that is disappointing about Great Wall Tea for me is how early they close, making it hard for me to get there in time to fulfill my craving for tea. read more

I had never purchased from the Great Wall of Tea until today--I am a strong coffee aficionado but when I cut back on imbibing wine I drink a lot of tea, cursing all the while. I generally buy Celestial Seasonings and floor sweepings, as they say. But today I laid down almost $50 and got a wide assortment of very different and lovely teas I am keen to try. And it all started because after a Happy Hour dinner at Wild Rice a tea seemed ap, and what they had for testing was Waterfront--a mint tea w/chamomile and rose I believe, and it was amazing. I generally LOATHE mint teas, can't stand them and neither can my hubbies. We were both blown away by Watefront, especially as a post-dinner bevvie. So, I perused the menu and brought home 6 different 50g and 1-100g bags for $48--which beats the He'll outta David's tea prices, I think. I am a goner now. read more

I love teas. I love a place that has huge containers of tea they pluck from a wall, which they let you smell before either brewing you a cup or filling up a bag of loose tea for you to enjoy later. Each container is filled with different white, green, herbal, rooibus, and pu-erh teas. Some flavored, some not. Their seasonal special teas are worth considering. I loved their dark chocolate peppermint pu-erh tea. Unfortunately, they had just run out to make a full cup, but the owner was kind enough to give me what left over tea they had in a tea bag so I may enjoy it at home as service. What service it was when I enjoyed it the next day! Minty, yet smooth. If they have some in stock, grab as much as possible! Great Wall Tea Company is a tea lover's dream come true. The staff are extremely friendly and confident in their knowledge of tea. If you need help deciding, let them recommend something you'll most likely fall in love with. It might be wise to buy some loose teas before you depart. That's what my daughter and I did during out visit to Vancouver. We bought many bags of tea so we may enjoy them over the winter months. Great Wall Tea Company, located inside River Market, which is a quick walk from New Westminster Sky Train. They have a counter, where you may drink your hot or iced tea. If the counter is full, then there are plenty of tables in River Market or go for a walk outside, if it's not raining outside. There are plenty of washrooms inside River Market as well as plenty of food choices. read more

Her and her husband / partner are often there, and are willing to recommend on any tea fancy! My favorite place in the Quay (so far). Love, love, love it! Great, friendly service. A wide selection of teas at affordable prices. I have been here both to have a tea latte made on-site, as well as bought some of their loose leaf teas to take home. Firstly, in terms of atmosphere, the place is more of a bar counter with some stools than an actual sit-down type of cafe. The entire wall is filled with canisters of tea that have different covers, which makes for a really nice design. I love the location in the River Market. The tea lattes that I have tried have been good, and I like the fact that they give you an option of what type of sweetener as well as how much you prefer. I usually find most lattes to be too sweet but theirs are a good level as you are able to specify. I also like that it is all made fresh rather than with syrups. The tea that I have bought for home has been good quality so far. The staff are very knowledgeable about the teas, and helpful in aiding you to select what you are looking for. There is also a fairly good selection of organic teas. Wish they had longer hours, but I suppose that most of the places in the River Market do close pretty early so may be more to do with the location. read more

A lovely little hole-in-wall shop in New Westminster's River Market, Great Wall Tea Company provides a fantastic variety of teas (over 100) at good price, with great service. The extremely friendly staff is more than happy to talk to you about your preferences, and let you see, smell and taste the teas. The storefront includes a tea bar where you can buy a full cup to drink there or takeaway. One of the businesses that is making it even easier to live in New West! The only thing that stops me from giving Great Wall Tea a full 5 stars is that the seating's not very comfortable to really sit and enjoy a hot cuppa. To be fair, the owners have no control over this as the communal space is owned by the market. p.s. the storefront is very pretty - fantastic design on the tea bins. read more

I am a proud tea whore. I love my coffees but my heart will always be in the tea leaf. Great quality teas. I love how the teas are displayed. They take the chromatic but work with it. I wish that I could come here more often, however, the location is a bit out of the way for me. I do make it a habit to come out here when in the hood. I tried counting the teas on the wall and got lost at 60....there's a shit load of teas of every flavors, genres and most notably flavor notes. Prices are fair market value. read more

Wonderful little gem of New Westminster, hidden in the newly renovated Quay. Always great service and they are willing to give you samples of tea to try out. My husband and I are addicted and have loads of their tea in our cupboards. Steeping some Monk's Blend now! Great rooibos teas, especially the Strawberry Rose flavour. The Russian Earl Grey is a favourite and it's been having great reviews all around the world! I sent a bunch of little samples of the tea to friends in England, Yukon, South Africa and Australia! I visited this tea shop today for the first time and, although the service is absolutely incredible, I was disappointed in the tea itself. I ordered the coconut black tea. I always put milk and sugar in my tea and, after preparing my tea as usual, all I could taste was milk; no tea flavour at all! I should add that I am a fairly picky tea drinker, as I have had some very high-quality teas before. However, I would not purchase tea here for myself. read more
