There were a couple dishes I wanted to try and on the server's recommendation, I went for the lobster eggs benedict. It was served in a beautiful presentaiton of bright colours and a generous serving of lobster meat. The spring salad was the perfect side as it cut through the richness of the hollandaise and the perfectly poached runny egg. One of the previous reviews noted that the poached eggs in the shakshuka were overdone, which made me hesitant to consider that dish, but next time I might try that since the benedict eggs were perfectly cooked. Parking was super easy at the time of day, pay street parking in the surrounding blocks. Will definitely be back to try the other dishes!

It's probably best to get the coffee black here, there's lots of good varieties :) my bf and I got a vanilla latte and a mocha. I wish there was oatmilk, but at least they have almond, coconut and soy. The drinks' flavors (vanilla and chocolate) were pretty tame and not very sweet, and you can taste the umami coffee notes coming through subtly like a heat lamp. Grandma was the one who saw the sign and thought it might be a nice place to try sometime.  Newsflash: The "Gooey Cinnamon Rolls" at West of Java come from Grounds for Coffee! Didn't know this when I stepped into the shop. It was while we were sitting down, enjoying our food and drink that I looked out the window and noticed the Grounds for Coffee logo printed on the "Gooey Cinnamon Rolls" sign that's hanging outside the shop. It's small and easy to miss, but it's unmistakably the Grounds for Coffee logo. I was over the moon when I realized that I no longer have to drive all the way to Commercial Drive or Alma St. to get those Cinnamon Rolls. Now I can get them anytime we go to visit Grandma!  Aside from my excitement about the Cinnamon Roll discovery, our drinks at West of Java were pretty nifty as well. We had Mocha, Chai Latte and a Matcha Latte.  I was also elated to discover that they allow people to bring in their own reusable cups and that you can get a discount for doing so!
