Most of the hair stylist here can not cut hair at all.. I asked for a half inch off, she cut 1 and 1/2 inches off. I said fohawk it, she made it short one side, longer in the middle, and EVEN longer on the otherside... Had to talk to the manager and get my money back and a free fix. Got my hair cut here last nite- they took me two minutes to closing, which i really appreciated, and didn't rush the cut at all. Everyone was very courteous and i was satisfied with the result. I'm really not one to post negative comments but I felt obligated to in this instance. I went in to get the my hair cleaned up a little since it had been like 4 months and I was seen quickly enough. However, it started and ended badly when their staff asked the simple questions of what size of clippers do i want them to use and how much off the top. I explained that I didn't want clippers or I kind of liked the longer length I had since I'd never really let my hair get that long before. But I needed the back cleaned up and the front a little shorter (just enough to stop poking in the eyes). She said she didn't understand and proceeded to use the clippers on one side of my head. At that point, it was kind of past the point of no return so I allowed her to finish which resulted in losing 2-3 inches off the top as well. The hair cut would have turned out fine if I wanted shorter hair. What bothers me was that every time I asked for something, she simply said she didn't understand and continued to proceed however she wanted versus what I had been asking for. As a big name hair salon, I expected a much better experience than what I got. Much like the other reviews for this salon, I do believe the quality of your hair cut depends on which stylist is available at the time. Unfortunately for me, I came in during the worst time. I asked for a faux hawk and I even gave her a thorough explanation of how short I wanted it and how I wanted it to look. She began by cutting the sides and already I could see this was headed in a bad direction. She buzzed too far up on my head (which I specifically asked her not to do) and used clippers the whole time while cutting my hair. This ended up in me basically getting a buzz cut, which is the one haircut I absolutely loathe. I left unhappy and upset for a while. The ONLY reason this place gets 2 stars is because it inspired me to start cutting my own hair. I figured if I come here and only get a buzz cut.. I might as well take my chances and cut my own hair (which I have been very successful at.) This review is a little late (about 2 months) but still reflects my true feelings about this place. I have been going to this Great Clips for about 7 years. I always get a simple haircut that takes like 5 minutes. So, I can't say much about the stylist's techniques or whatever, but I'm always satisfied. The stylists and staff are always friendly. This place is close to my work, and the best part is being able to just walk-in. I have never waited more than 10 minutes. Price? I don't know how much a standard haircut should be, but this place charges $14.00...seems right. If you save your receipt you get $2 Off your next haircut...which I never have managed to save, but will one day possibly. What I don't like. This place seems to have serious management/ owner issues. Every time I go there seems to be one less long time staff member. When I casually inquire I'm always informed that a new manager or owner fired them (yes they say fired) and/or they quit because they hated the owner/ new manager. It is pretty obvious that the staff resent/dislike both the owner and manager. I have never seen the manager (as far as I know), so can't give my opinion. All I wanted was a trim. All I wanted was for my split ends to be gone. The girl couldn't even give me that. I said I wanted roughly the same length and she literally took me at my word. All she did was snip at random parts of my hair, cutting almost nothing. She was done in 10 minutes, and even trims take longer than that. I went home and examined my hair after it was dry. My hair was getting really long, so long that it was hurting my neck and the heat of summer was not helping. I usually get my hair cut back home for free by my Godmother and I have complete trust in her. But she's 500 miles away and I NEEDED a haircut. Ashley totally came to the rescue! This review is based on the stylist not the salon.I've been going to this salon for a couple years now. I understand that you get what you pay for. You get a different stylist each time you go in but usually they're very nice and pleasant and give you a decent haircut for the price. This past Saturday i went to get my hair cut the same as I always do, and had a new stylist. No surprise there. The surprise was she was so unfriendly! First, she did not introduce herself like all the other stylists were doing. She asked me what I wanted have done I told her that I just wanted a haircut as usual (they keep notes in their system as to your hair style). She never said another word to me until the haircut was completely finished. She handed me the mirror spun me around backwards told me to check the back and see if that's what I wanted. While I was looking at my hair I glanced over and she was chewing her fingernails like she was bored to death. My hair was cut very choppy-not a good haircut at all. But I was so frustrated with her for not talking to me or asking any questions that I just wanted to get out of there. She then told me to go to the register and she'd "be up there in a minute". At the register they have a new pay system that tells you to put in an other amount. She told me "yeah, decide how much tip your going to give and put it in there." Needless to say I did not tip her. I've never been treated this way at this location before. I will go back but I won't allow that girl to cut my hair. I had to get a last minute trim at another salon before a job interview in Sacramento. It went horribly wrong. Sheepishly I went to this greatclips where my usual girl Ashley stifled a laugh, sat me down and expertly cleaned me up while jokingly admonishing me for walking into a random place downtown. As I left I forgot my wallet on the counter and as I was walking to my car Grace ran out and returned it to me. I won't make the mistake of walking in somewhere else just because it's conveniently located when I know this place is so reliable. I'll probably continue forgetting my wallet however. read more

I had my hair cut a couple weeks ago by Destiny, and I really liked the result! She did a really cute fringe on my bangs, that makes them easy to style, and not looking flat. She asked me a lot of questions about what I how I wanted my cut before starting, so she clearly knew what I wanted and I knew what I was getting, which I really appreciated. I should have looked at the reviews before I went here. I'm a fancy lady with fancy taste, but I get a simple haircut that anyone who has been to four days of beauty school can usually manage. I went in on a Tuesday in the morning, and ... Wow. I've never had such a poopie haircut. I don't think it was due to inept stylists per se, I think it was just that the girl was incredibly busy and she had no help at all. She started and stopped on my hair several times because she had to keep answering the phones and checking other customers in. The girl who did my hair was pleasant but yeah, the hair cut kinda blows. I'm disappointed that I paid money for this, honestly, but I guess you get what you pay for. This place needs much more staff than they currently have. While I was waiting I got the feeling that there's a high turnover with stylists as well. Most of the stylist here are really bad. A fade should not be able to be finished in under 20 minutes. They rush you in and out, even when there is no one else in line. I asked for a 1 fade on the sides, and a scissor trim on the top, got a choppy trim on top with no fade on the sides. Never going here again, Do your self a favor and GO TO MEMO's on G st. read more

Not a super friendly place but can be cheap with Safeway receipt coupons. I came in with a $7.99 coupon from the receipt and she charged me $8.99. I should have called them on it but didn't (maybe she added in a one dollar tip for herself? - I tipped about 15% on the regular price). Oh well, still a really cheap haircut. I asked for just over a half inch off all around, no layers or a-line or anything fancy. Looks good on one side, and just okay on the other. It isn't even but hair doesn't really grow even anyway, so in a few months, it might look like this anyway. My husband has had similar issues, where the staff doesn't really communicate well. I am not very chatty during haircuts, so normally I wouldn't mind, but I would like them to explain what they mean when using jargon. If you are going in with a specific stylist you like, then I would recommend it. If you are just going to go with the luck of the draw, I would go somewhere else. read more
