This was 3rd time getting haircut by same woman. She doesn't listen, she does what she wants. She spent 5 minutes on my hair. I have long hair and I like it cut around my face. I told her just dust the back otherwise she'll take 5 inches. She spent 30 seconds on the back. Then she basically gave me uneven bangs. I asked for her to cut the hair all the way around my face not just the bangs. She wouldn't cut anymore and said look it blends with the back. But that wasn't what I wanted or asked for. I asked her to make both sides even. She had been saying while she trimmed my bangs that everyone has one side different than the other. So she didn't try to make both sides even. I dont believe she really knows how to cut hair. Sure boys and men where she uses trimmers, but she doesn't seem to understand she is supposed to be able to make both sides even. My hair looks worse than it did when I went in. I've never had someone who was cutting my hair blame my hair for being uneven. I literally asked a couple different times for her to fix it better. Cut more here, make it even. She insisted it was okay. Aren't we supposed to be able to get the haircut we want. 3 times she has done what she wanted. I got my hair cut day before Thanksgiving there by someone else, she did a fantastic job. Even, took her time, did what I asked. She knew what she was doing. read more

Came in here for a simple haircut, take about 6 inches off & a shampoo. She then tells me that my hair is so long that it started going down the shampoo bowl drain (ew). I told her I normally double shampoo and she didn't do that... my hair wasn't even clean after. She barely let the conditioner sink in. Afterwards, my hair was BEYOND tangled. Took her about 10 minutes to get it all untangled. Now for the cut... she took about 8 inches off.. maybe more. WAY too much. To make matters worse, it was lopsided. I told her I normally part my hair on the side and she "checked it" after. And sent me on my way. Didn't even blow dry it. I get home, blow dry it, and see it's very obviously lopsided (see photo). I'm livid. It's so much shorter than I asked for I check in again online, go back in, and Jamie (bless her soul) IMMEDIATELY recognizes the error. She brings me back swiftly and fixes it. Now unfortunately, she had to take off even more to get it balanced. Her customer service was spectacular and I can tell she was mortified. I was on the verge of tears leaving the store. It took everything I had not to cry while she was cutting it. I won't be back unless it's for her. I understand my original stylist was new but while I was waiting originally the haircut before mine she had to ask for help from another stylist, which shows that she could probably benefit from some mentorship or continuing education so she can improve. read more

I was passing through Davis and walked in to get a haircut. I noticed a screen on the counter with a list of names. I was trying to figure out how to sign in. There wasn't anyone at the front desk and all the hairdressers were busy cutting hair. I sat down on a chair to wait to speak to someone. One of the employees, stops what she's doing, walks toward the front desk and asks me "did you sign in?". I say "no, how do I sign in?" She then rudely asks me all these questions as if I've inconveniencing her. It was almost as if she was annoyed that I walked in. I've had good haircuts here but I just had my worst and last haircut at great clips. I thought a trim would be harmless but she gave me layers when I confirmed with her I wanted a straight cut. I also wanted my curtain bangs to be trimmed and she gave me two big chunks of bangs on the sides of my face. I hate my hair and now idk how much it's going to cost to fix it at a real salon. I would've given it a 0 if I had the choice. It was a complete waste of time! I checked in because it was a "0 minute" wait time. When I got here, two hairdressers were working on two customers. I sat down and waited. 10 minutes later, one hairdresser finished. She didn't greet me and instead started putting around. A few minutes later, the other hairdresser asked her a question. She walked over and started working on the unfinished customer. I was okay with that as she was showing the other hairdresser what to do. But 20 minutes later, they were still engaging in light bantering while taking extraordinarily long time to examine every step (I have had my haircut there for years and I know how they normally work). I then asked how much longer I would need to wait. Incredulously, the main hairdresser said, "I don't know. It takes however long it takes." Really? She had NO idea how long it would take?? I then asked how many hairdressers were working. She said one - when it was obvious two were working on the same customer and another one was in the back (probably having lunch). I said I already waited for over half an hour and needed to get back to work. She just shrugged. I had to leave without a haircut after dealing with such a rude hairdresser. I showed up randomly on Friday afternoon for a hair styling because my hair badly reacted to shampoo/conditioner I had to borrow from my sister and became wicked tangled. So after spending a very long time detangling it, and knowing it was going to dry super frizzy and weird if I didn't blow dry it, I just couldn't get the will to do it myself and remembered that there is a great clips I had gone to in 2017. So I showed up in the hope that someone would be fine doing a style only and they were! Allison styled my hair and she was very nice and friendly. She was fast and did a really good job, my hair still looks nice with me only touching it up once with a curling iron and dry shampoo, this is 4 days later now. Because I have approx. 16" of hair I was charged a "long hair style" which was $31. I also had DAMP hair so I didn't need a wash but it wasn't dry either. (In comparison my VERY under priced for the Bay Area stylist charges $25 for a blow dry & beach wave curl and the average is $35 for a dry style or $55 for wash and style in the Bay Area & Sacramento area, so I thought the price was fair and low-average). Don't forget to tip of course! I showed up without joining the online queue because I didn't see styling as an option online, I know they said it was rare to only want a style but I actually think it's not a bad idea to make it an option as I'd definitely come back. I'm sure I'm not the only person in Davis that hates styling their hair most of the time and finds it much more enjoyable to have a professional do it. :) read more

There are just too many barbers that you have to learn to avoid and it's really hard to get out of it when you're stuck with one of the many bad ones. At the end of the haircut, the stylist said they were finished but I was trying to explain simple instructions to cut the front so it appears the same length as the rest of the hair but she just couldn't seem to understand what I was saying and kept asking what I meant. I got frustrated because of how simple what I was explaining was so I paid for the haircut without tipping. I then came back to request a refund for the haircut, but they refused. I'll be honest. I only ended up here cause my barber was out of town for a week and I was desperate for a cut. My buddy and I went together since we had coupons and he always expressed how he never likes going there. Never gets the same barber and his haircuts are never good. Makea me question why he keeps going there and he said it's to save money. Lool it's cheap with coupons or deals but after my experience I don't intend to come back. For starters, do they only hire people who just graduated? Both of our barbers seemed extremely new. I'm not mad about that as they need a job which explains the cheap haircut. I get my hair cut roughly twice a month. I know what I'm looking for and I never diverge from that. The barber I had managed to rush through the entire process, cut uneven lengths, and buzzed a little too high. My friend who isn't like me when it comes to communicating his haircut is unfortunate. That being said, his haircut was the most embarrassing thing I have ever seen. And he hated it drastically himself. At what point does experience kick in where a barber should give advice to a person who doesn't know what they are asking for. If you want to save money and frankly just don't care that much how your hair looks or its consistency or your hair requires no styling or effort then this place is for you. My stylist, Sarah, was patient and friendly. She didn't take too long nor did she rush me. Make sure you come in with pictures of the hairstyle you want from the front, side, and back. I was a walk-in about 2-3 hours before the closing time and I've gone to this chain before in my home town and have always had a great experience with no complaints ever about my haircut. I came in to this place to just get a trim and freshen up my layers but when I got home and looked in the mirror I noticed that almost all of the layers were uneven and my bangs were choppy and uneven as well. I didn't notice it earlier because my hair was slightly wet and they seemed to want me to leave sooner than later. I was very disappointed because I don't usually get haircuts away from home and I will probably not be coming back. I also have straight hair with no texture so I usually don't have any additional trouble with haircuts. The hairdressers were friendly, down to earth, and the place was clean and the atmosphere was the same as my hometown Great Clips as well. I used to get my haircut here until they hired new stylists. I would get my haircut from the first available stylist because they all did a good job at cutting my hair. They hired a new stylist, I introduced myself just as I did when I had a new stylist. I usually show a picture of the way that I like my haircut; the stylist began to express very visible signs of distress when I explained that the way I like the top of my hair cut is with the clippers and not by using her fingers to measure. She then lost control of herself and took the clippers to the side and started shaving off my hair. I reported her to the corporate office. I kept going there and requested not to have the same female stylist. They hired another female stylist. This time the stylist became very distressed over talking about how my GPS took me the long way around to the salon. The stylist did the same thing as the other female stylist and started shaving off my hair. I was lucky that another stylist was there to do what she could to fix what she could. I reported the stylist but management does little to correct the problems. Women from the ghetto, present or former gang members, hate groups, or women who hate men would simply respond that it must have been something that I did. I don't buy that remark because I had been going there for a long time. These females obviously have some sort of anti-social behavioral disorders. Acts of hate are common by women and white employees in the City of Davis; UC Davis also has a long history of unlawful discrimination towards underrepresented groups. UC Davis placed a statue as an apology to the people and students from Mexico because of the history of unlawful discrimination; discrimination and acts of resorting to covering up the unlawful discrimination are common among the faculty, student judicial affairs, and their doctors. But back to this salon. Management is fully responsible for hiring stylists who cannot work with the public. Their stylists that act out with anger and utilize the same tactics as the stylists and Latina stylists that work at Walmart salons. read more

I thought that since the hair cuts went from 10.00 to 17.00, the quality would be better. The lady barely worked 10 minutes on my hair. I could not see the layers. I was a walk-in on a Friday morning and got seated right away. They have an online check-in system so that you don't have to wait in line once you arrive, but there wasn't a wait at the time I came. The store was clean, with some seating along the walls, and another wall lined with hair products. All of the employees wore a similar smock, which leant a standard, consistent appearance but didn't make any of them stand out as individuals. Monica cut my hair. Her license was displayed on the mirror at her designated station. They place a paper strip around your neck before velcroing the drape around you, I assume for sanitary reasons. She briefly asked me what I wanted then started cutting. This really is a no-frills place to get your hair cut. You can pay for a shampoo or to have your hair dried and styled, but if you're paying for the hair cut ($17), that's literally all you'll get. She didn't even make small talk with me. I appreciate the length that she cut my hair to, and that she further clarified whether I wanted layers as she was cutting. The only downside to my cut was that the ends look very thick and choppy, as my hair is quite thick; I should have asked her to feather the freshly cut ends. I was able to use a coupon I received in the mail for a haircut for $11 (a $6 discount). That was a plus! All in all, I was in and out in under 30 minutes, which I found to be super impressive. So come here for a quick, no-frills hair cutting experience. I prefer more relational hairstyling and a more relaxing experience though. read more

Er, I really should have asked for the name of the stylist that had given me haircuts previously, because the stylist I went to this time around butchered the left half of my mostly straight Asian hair in a very short amount of time. I guess my left side decided to be temperamental for a day and therefore resulted in 1 inch a scissor mishap, leaving a chunk in my left side and a style considerably shorter than my right. The stylist said that it might be because of how she was styling the hair at the moment, and that everything should be better when I shampooed/styled/etc. Two days later: everything didn't magically look better. The asymmetrical hairstyle still looked like someone snipped off wayy too much. I'm usually not picky about my hair, but putting up with comments about my uneven hair for two days, I came back and got my right side cut shorter to match with my left. The stylist was bubbly and fun to talk to. She knew what she was doing because when I told her what I wanted, she said no. The result was a ton of compliments from friends. Unfortunately, she has passed away since then, and I have yet to find such an awesome stylist. I've been back to this location quite a few times, each time trying out a new stylist, but none have been great. I've gotten a lop-sided haircut, been lectured about how Americans don't use the metric system, been kicked out of the chair because "my hour was up" (I asked her to layer my thick hair), and so on.
