Came in here for a simple haircut, take about 6 inches off & a shampoo. She then tells me that my hair is so long that it started going down the shampoo bowl drain (ew). I told her I normally double shampoo and she didn't do that... my hair wasn't even clean after. She barely let the conditioner sink in. Afterwards, my hair was BEYOND tangled. Took her about 10 minutes to get it all untangled. Now for the cut... she took about 8 inches off.. maybe more. WAY too much. To make matters worse, it was lopsided. I told her I normally part my hair on the side and she "checked it" after. And sent me on my way. Didn't even blow dry it. I get home, blow dry it, and see it's very obviously lopsided (see photo). I'm livid. It's so much shorter than I asked for I check in again online, go back in, and Jamie (bless her soul) IMMEDIATELY recognizes the error. She brings me back swiftly and fixes it. Now unfortunately, she had to take off even more to get it balanced. Her customer service was spectacular and I can tell she was mortified. I was on the verge of tears leaving the store. It took everything I had not to cry while she was cutting it. I won't be back unless it's for her. I understand my original stylist was new but while I was waiting originally the haircut before mine she had to ask for help from another stylist, which shows that she could probably benefit from some mentorship or continuing education so she can improve. read more

I can't thank Christine enough, she is an amazing stylist. I first came to her in 2022 to cut my hair for donation, and she handled the entire process with such care and professionalism. She took the time to section everything correctly, ensured the length was perfect, and then gave me a great haircut afterward. Thanks to her, I was able to donate (10) inches to the organization Locks of Love. Christine has been my stylist ever since. With her many years of experience cutting both men's and women's hair, her skill and consistency always show. Her work is exceptional, and she's incredibly reliable. I highly recommend Christine to anyone looking for a talented, trustworthy stylist! read more

Came in for a quick haircut after not getting one for a while. Did a walk in, little wait (less than 10 min) on Sunday morning around 10:15 am. The bald dude with the beard did a great job. Should've got his name. Good at making conversation too! Will be back. Good deal too, men's haircut $24. Previously I paid a lot more at other places. Took about 15 mins for him to fix my untamed bush of a head. read more

I was passing through Davis and walked in to get a haircut. I noticed a screen on the counter with a list of names. I was trying to figure out how to sign in. There wasn't anyone at the front desk and all the hairdressers were busy cutting hair. I sat down on a chair to wait to speak to someone. One of the employees, stops what she's doing, walks toward the front desk and asks me "did you sign in?". I say "no, how do I sign in?" She then rudely asks me all these questions as if I've inconveniencing her. It was almost as if she was annoyed that I walked in. I didn't appreciate that interaction and decided to walk out after that. Won't be coming here again. read more

I've had good haircuts here but I just had my worst and last haircut at great clips. I thought a trim would be harmless but she gave me layers when I confirmed with her I wanted a straight cut. I also wanted my curtain bangs to be trimmed and she gave me two big chunks of bangs on the sides of my face. I hate my hair and now idk how much it's going to cost to fix it at a real salon. I know it was close to closing time and she was going quickly, but I got the exact opposite of what I asked for. I hate my hair. read more

This was 3rd time getting haircut by same woman. She doesn't listen, she does what she wants. She spent 5 minutes on my hair. I have long hair and I like it cut around my face. I told her just dust the back otherwise she'll take 5 inches. She spent 30 seconds on the back. Then she basically gave me uneven bangs. I asked for her to cut the hair all the way around my face not just the bangs. She wouldn't cut anymore and said look it blends with the back. But that wasn't what I wanted or asked for. I asked her to make both sides even. She had been saying while she trimmed my bangs that everyone has one side different than the other. So she didn't try to make both sides even. I dont believe she really knows how to cut hair. Sure boys and men where she uses trimmers, but she doesn't seem to understand she is supposed to be able to make both sides even. My hair looks worse than it did when I went in. I've never had someone who was cutting my hair blame my hair for being uneven. I literally asked a couple different times for her to fix it better. Cut more here, make it even. She insisted it was okay. Aren't we supposed to be able to get the haircut we want. 3 times she has done what she wanted. I got my hair cut day before Thanksgiving there by someone else, she did a fantastic job. Even, took her time, did what I asked. She knew what she was doing. read more

I've been going to Christine at Supercuts for at least 20 years. Christine has moved to Great Clips. I followed her to her new location and highly recommend her. I always get compliments and people asking me "Where do you get your hair cut?" Now I can say "Christine at Great Clips". read more

I would've given it a 0 if I had the choice. It was a complete waste of time! I checked in because it was a "0 minute" wait time. When I got here, two hairdressers were working on two customers. I sat down and waited. 10 minutes later, one hairdresser finished. She didn't greet me and instead started putting around. A few minutes later, the other hairdresser asked her a question. She walked over and started working on the unfinished customer. I was okay with that as she was showing the other hairdresser what to do. But 20 minutes later, they were still engaging in light bantering while taking extraordinarily long time to examine every step (I have had my haircut there for years and I know how they normally work). I then asked how much longer I would need to wait. Incredulously, the main hairdresser said, "I don't know. It takes however long it takes." Really? She had NO idea how long it would take?? I then asked how many hairdressers were working. She said one - when it was obvious two were working on the same customer and another one was in the back (probably having lunch). I said I already waited for over half an hour and needed to get back to work. She just shrugged. I had to leave without a haircut after dealing with such a rude hairdresser. This all started with the check-in time says it was "0 minute" wait. All said, I wasted an hour without getting a haircut, and had to endure rudeness. Not going back! read more

Worst place to go for haircut. Lady who was working here, was very rude. I forgot her name. She was just trying to finish the haircut and kick me out. Note: only received styling service. I showed up randomly on Friday afternoon for a hair styling because my hair badly reacted to shampoo/conditioner I had to borrow from my sister and became wicked tangled. So after spending a very long time detangling it, and knowing it was going to dry super frizzy and weird if I didn't blow dry it, I just couldn't get the will to do it myself and remembered that there is a great clips I had gone to in 2017. So I showed up in the hope that someone would be fine doing a style only and they were! Allison styled my hair and she was very nice and friendly. She was fast and did a really good job, my hair still looks nice with me only touching it up once with a curling iron and dry shampoo, this is 4 days later now. Because I have approx. 16" of hair I was charged a "long hair style" which was $31. I also had DAMP hair so I didn't need a wash but it wasn't dry either. (In comparison my VERY under priced for the Bay Area stylist charges $25 for a blow dry & beach wave curl and the average is $35 for a dry style or $55 for wash and style in the Bay Area & Sacramento area, so I thought the price was fair and low-average). Don't forget to tip of course! I showed up without joining the online queue because I didn't see styling as an option online, I know they said it was rare to only want a style but I actually think it's not a bad idea to make it an option as I'd definitely come back. I'm sure I'm not the only person in Davis that hates styling their hair most of the time and finds it much more enjoyable to have a professional do it. :) read more

Great Clips'll never be confused with High End Salons. And my haircut wasn't perfect. But, you're not paying high end salon prices either, and my cut was adequate. I recently traveled about 40 minutes from homebase to Davis, as my county (Solano) was still under Covid lockdown protocals. I checked in online as usual (highly recco'd). Timed it perfectly as once I walked in, they called me. No wait. This salon also staffs multiple stylists (like 5-6), so it's real efficient in that regards. Easy access on & off nearby I-80 Freeway. Score Great Clips Davis! read more

I have been coming here for some time just because of the convenience alone. The service is admittedly poor. There are just too many barbers that you have to learn to avoid and it's really hard to get out of it when you're stuck with one of the many bad ones. It seems like all they care about is getting you out of there as fast as they can. There have been too many times where I'm not satisfied with the haircut and they usually make things worse once they try to fix it. Do not come here for any kind of fades read more

The store manager cut my hair yesterday (I can't remember their name!). I have been going to higher end salons, thinking they would listen to my detailed request, & be better at giving me the cut I want. Nope. Davis Great Clip manager was the 1st stylist in years who listened to my request, did not argue or "suggest" how the think I should do it, and the 1st time I've walked out pleased with my cut in years... thank you for a job well done! read more

Went to great clips for the first time today. Pretty quick haircut and the lady, Lola, was really nice and was able to understand what haircut I wanted even if I didn't use proper haircut terms. Would definitely recommend for any Davis students looking for a quick haircut. read more

At the end of the haircut, the stylist said they were finished but I was trying to explain simple instructions to cut the front so it appears the same length as the rest of the hair but she just couldn't seem to understand what I was saying and kept asking what I meant. I got frustrated because of how simple what I was explaining was so I paid for the haircut without tipping. I then came back to request a refund for the haircut, but they refused. If you're looking for a budget haircut, I would not recommend. read more

If I could give them ZERO stars, I would. The stylist was extremely rude to my teen daughter who only wanted her hair cut to her shoulders. My daughter is extremely shy and HAS A SPEECH DISABILITY. Even after I intervened and told the stylist what my daughter wanted, the stylist insisted that my daughter find a picture to show her. She then asked us to sit back down in the waiting area in order to take the next customer because it was "going to take her awhile, I can tell". We walked out without a haircut. Unacceptable behavior on the part of this stylist. read more

I'll be honest. I only ended up here cause my barber was out of town for a week and I was desperate for a cut. My buddy and I went together since we had coupons and he always expressed how he never likes going there. Never gets the same barber and his haircuts are never good. Makea me question why he keeps going there and he said it's to save money. Lool it's cheap with coupons or deals but after my experience I don't intend to come back. For starters, do they only hire people who just graduated? Both of our barbers seemed extremely new. I'm not mad about that as they need a job which explains the cheap haircut. You get what you pay for. But damn my haircut was and is always super easy. I always know how to communicate to the barber and let them know exactly what I want. I get my hair cut roughly twice a month. I know what I'm looking for and I never diverge from that. The barber I had managed to rush through the entire process, cut uneven lengths, and buzzed a little too high. My friend who isn't like me when it comes to communicating his haircut is unfortunate. That being said, his haircut was the most embarrassing thing I have ever seen. And he hated it drastically himself. At what point does experience kick in where a barber should give advice to a person who doesn't know what they are asking for. If you want to save money and frankly just don't care that much how your hair looks or its consistency or your hair requires no styling or effort then this place is for you. But to everyone else, avoid this place. There are so many barbers in Davis. Why even go here? read more

I brought my daughter in for her very first haircut that is not a mom DIY job. She's going into 1st grade and wanted a new style. She came in with very particular asks and ideas, and all were met! I called to ask if anyone can cut curly hair (since I've had bad luck with people before) and when I called I ask if I can ask something before going to the shop. The hairstylists at Great Clips are all so nice! It's the grand rule that 'if you're nice then others will reciprocate'. I went from shoulder length hair to a pixie cut in my visit. My stylist, Sarah, was patient and friendly. She didn't take too long nor did she rush me. Make sure you come in with pictures of the hairstyle you want from the front, side, and back. If you're trying out a completely new haircut, ask the stylist to cut a little more slowly and walk you through it. Sarah even assured me if I wanted to come back and get bits fixed she would gladly do so. I'll glad come back here to get my hair trimmed every month, especially with the reasonable prices (: read more

Great Clips - The inside - Hair Salons Near Me - Davis, California

Everybody was Kung Fu slicing, The service was fast as lightning. Although the shag is a bit unexcite-ing This is a review of a salon that im writing. You can be a work of art! I mean even Picasso had a bad hair day every now and then. This location is a diamond in the rough, well almost a diamond, its still in charcoal phase. Luckily the beautiful ladies at this establishment will talk to you, even if nobody else will. Sure you gotta pay them but can you really put a price on friendship? I digress. Come here for an above average haircut, done efficiently, and quickly. Ive hardly ever been scared of being nipped at this location! What else could you ask for in a review? PS: ask about the Sesame chicken its to die for! read more

I used to get my haircut here until they hired new stylists. I would get my haircut from the first available stylist because they all did a good job at cutting my hair. They hired a new stylist, I introduced myself just as I did when I had a new stylist. I usually show a picture of the way that I like my haircut; the stylist began to express very visible signs of distress when I explained that the way I like the top of my hair cut is with the clippers and not by using her fingers to measure. She then lost control of herself and took the clippers to the side and started shaving off my hair. I reported her to the corporate office. I kept going there and requested not to have the same female stylist. They hired another female stylist. This time the stylist became very distressed over talking about how my GPS took me the long way around to the salon. The stylist did the same thing as the other female stylist and started shaving off my hair. I was lucky that another stylist was there to do what she could to fix what she could. I reported the stylist but management does little to correct the problems. Women from the ghetto, present or former gang members, hate groups, or women who hate men would simply respond that it must have been something that I did. I don't buy that remark because I had been going there for a long time. These females obviously have some sort of anti-social behavioral disorders. Acts of hate are common by women and white employees in the City of Davis; UC Davis also has a long history of unlawful discrimination towards underrepresented groups. UC Davis placed a statue as an apology to the people and students from Mexico because of the history of unlawful discrimination; discrimination and acts of resorting to covering up the unlawful discrimination are common among the faculty, student judicial affairs, and their doctors. But back to this salon. Management is fully responsible for hiring stylists who cannot work with the public. Their stylists that act out with anger and utilize the same tactics as the stylists and Latina stylists that work at Walmart salons. read more

I was a walk-in about 2-3 hours before the closing time and I've gone to this chain before in my home town and have always had a great experience with no complaints ever about my haircut. I came in to this place to just get a trim and freshen up my layers but when I got home and looked in the mirror I noticed that almost all of the layers were uneven and my bangs were choppy and uneven as well. I didn't notice it earlier because my hair was slightly wet and they seemed to want me to leave sooner than later. I was very disappointed because I don't usually get haircuts away from home and I will probably not be coming back. I also have straight hair with no texture so I usually don't have any additional trouble with haircuts. The hairdressers were friendly, down to earth, and the place was clean and the atmosphere was the same as my hometown Great Clips as well. I would rate them higher for these reasons but I went for a haircut and it wasn't up to my standard. read more

Unfortunately, Great Clips is still by far the worst hair cut I've had after ten years of boycotting Great Clips. I thought that since the hair cuts went from 10.00 to 17.00, the quality would be better. The lady barely worked 10 minutes on my hair. I could not see the layers. She insisted that the layers were there and, "That's how I do hair." My housemates all could not tell my hair was layered. I really don't know how this place exists. read more

I was a walk-in on a Friday morning and got seated right away. They have an online check-in system so that you don't have to wait in line once you arrive, but there wasn't a wait at the time I came. The store was clean, with some seating along the walls, and another wall lined with hair products. All of the employees wore a similar smock, which leant a standard, consistent appearance but didn't make any of them stand out as individuals. Monica cut my hair. Her license was displayed on the mirror at her designated station. They place a paper strip around your neck before velcroing the drape around you, I assume for sanitary reasons. She briefly asked me what I wanted then started cutting. This really is a no-frills place to get your hair cut. You can pay for a shampoo or to have your hair dried and styled, but if you're paying for the hair cut ($17), that's literally all you'll get. She didn't even make small talk with me. I appreciate the length that she cut my hair to, and that she further clarified whether I wanted layers as she was cutting. The only downside to my cut was that the ends look very thick and choppy, as my hair is quite thick; I should have asked her to feather the freshly cut ends. I was able to use a coupon I received in the mail for a haircut for $11 (a $6 discount). That was a plus! All in all, I was in and out in under 30 minutes, which I found to be super impressive. So come here for a quick, no-frills hair cutting experience. I prefer more relational hairstyling and a more relaxing experience though. read more

It is not that bad. You get what you pay for and if you have a coupon, it is a good deal. (PS I'm sorry I give the wrong tip amount....) If you don't need anything fancy, it is a good place to go. read more

Er, I really should have asked for the name of the stylist that had given me haircuts previously, because the stylist I went to this time around butchered the left half of my mostly straight Asian hair in a very short amount of time. I guess my left side decided to be temperamental for a day and therefore resulted in 1 inch a scissor mishap, leaving a chunk in my left side and a style considerably shorter than my right. The stylist said that it might be because of how she was styling the hair at the moment, and that everything should be better when I shampooed/styled/etc. Two days later: everything didn't magically look better. The asymmetrical hairstyle still looked like someone snipped off wayy too much. I'm usually not picky about my hair, but putting up with comments about my uneven hair for two days, I came back and got my right side cut shorter to match with my left. I was pleased that they did the fix for free, and that a different stylist did the fixing. read more

For some reason, I keep coming back. It must be the price, which is $4.99 if you're lucky enough to find a coupon. The first time I came here, also 7 years ago, I had an amazing experience. The stylist was bubbly and fun to talk to. She knew what she was doing because when I told her what I wanted, she said no. The result was a ton of compliments from friends. Unfortunately, she has passed away since then, and I have yet to find such an awesome stylist. I've been back to this location quite a few times, each time trying out a new stylist, but none have been great. I've gotten a lop-sided haircut, been lectured about how Americans don't use the metric system, been kicked out of the chair because "my hour was up" (I asked her to layer my thick hair), and so on. Now, every time I need a hair cut, I want to cry. I would recommend this place for a trim or a simple guy cut, but not for anything that might seem complicated. read more

Checked in online and was seen quickly. My stylist was very unfriendly, rushed (for no reason since there was no wait), and did a pretty poor job on a relatively easy customer.
