I called last week to schedule an appointment to schedule a repair for my HVAC unit. They scheduled and sent me their insurance certificate to satisfy my condo building requirement. The day of the appointment an hour before they were scheduled to arrive, the guy calls me from his truck and says they don't work on my type of HVAC unit so the appointment was cancelled same day. So unreliable and they don't even know what type of units they service. Stay away from this company if you want competent HVAC service. read more

Really great experience. I had water from an upstairs neighbor leaking through my ceiling into my furnace. Gray's Mechanical came out the same day and checked everything out for me. Great family business! Every single gentleman who walked through my door was very honest, professional, and kind. They did not try to work me at all. When I discovered I needed a new AC, I got quotes from multiple companies over about a month period. Different people tell you different things, so I had a difficult time trusting most of the companies I received quotes from. I was having a difficult time finding a balance between someone I can trust and reasonable prices. And Grays Mechanical delivered just that, along with great customer service! I worked with Alex a lot throughout the month of quoting, and he was wonderful! Always willing to help and answer any questions or concerns I had. This was a learning process for me, and he was very patient with me. I appreciated him so very much! During installation there was a slight issue, so I was fearful that I made the wrong choice and perhaps was conned. But they were very willing to rectify the mistake, which confirmed for me it was just a mistake, and those happen. The owner, Mr. Dan Gray, fixed the issues for me, and I appreciate him taking his time to correct the situation. Overall every single person from that company who came by (overall about 7 of them) were very kind, honest, patient and professional. I had my AC unit replaced and a nest installed by grays mechanical. Everything was smooth down to communication and convenience. I was educated on how things work and very happy with the process. During a hot summer evening I had an issue with my cooling and called. I had Dan over within an hour. It turned out I turned off the outside switch with my garden hose next to the unit. Oops! It was a simple mistake that was fixed. I was not charged and impressed with the fast response. This is a great company who cares about their customers and backs their work. We had the original furnace and A/C unit from when the house was built 23yrs ago. Wanted to be proactive prior to it going out heading into winter. I contacted Gray's Mechanical and Dan was very helpful and knowledgeable about the different brands on the market. Alex came out to inform us about our different options. There were some foreseen circumstances due to the way the house was configured but the team didn't hesitate and was able to perform the process smoothly. I have used Gray's now-twice. Once to replace a hot water heater, and once fix my furnace (a furnace about as old as the Pyramids). I have a townhouse in the suburbs. My townhouse is set up in a hilariously poor design structure, so long story short, my ancient hot water heater was on the second floor. Their customer service was amazing. I contacted Gray's, Sam responded same day and they had someone out the following day. Quote received-far more reasonable than another company who came out who shall remain nameless-and the new install was in by the end of the week. Recently, my furnace, which is the original from the construction of the property in the early 90s, started making a horrible grinding noise whenever it was turned on. Gray's was out the next day to figure out what was going on. Because my furnace was so old, special parts needed to be ordered and situated. Gray's was very honest about cost and what was best for me and my particular situation; they also went above and beyond to make sure my furnace was operating safety and not spewing carbon monoxide in the air. They actually came out on a Saturday to ensure the part was installed quickly at no extra charge. Would highly recommend 10/10. read more

My air-conditioning went out 2 weeks ago, when it was still hot outside. I live in a condo building on the North side of Chicago, and the Condo Association uses Gray's for routine maintenance of HVAC units, so when mine went out, I called Gray's and scheduled an appointment. They came out the next day, diagnosed the problem, gave me a quote and ordered the new parts. I can't remember the first serviceman's name. Parts came in and two days later, they sent Giovanni to replace the motor (20 years old) and refill the Freon. Giovanni did an excellent job, was in and out of in about an hour. Scheduled appt for 8am on Friday. No one called or showed up. Reached out to them and got no response. Very unprofessional.

I have a condo in the city. The AC wasn't getting cold so I had a referral from a co-worker to contact Gray's Mechanical. They were there THAT SAME DAY! Dan jumped up on the roof and reported that my old unit had a major leak of the refrigerant. He listed some options and then gave me his professional advice. Unfortunately for me, it was a bad prognosis on my AC and Furnace unit. Sam came out the next day to walk through and give hard numbers on what it would take to replace everything. When that price was out of my budget, they had a financing option available with a great zero interest introductory rate for me. Even though it was a big cost and a big decision I felt in my gut that I could trust these guys. They scheduled around my schedule and had a tech out there the very next week. Truth be told, I wasn't even home for the install at all. I arrived home from work and it was finished! Sam contacted me a few days later to see how the unit was working out for me and to ensure I was satisfied. I did find a small issue in that the thermostat which was installed was a grade below the one I previously had. When I mentioned it to Sam, he took action RIGHT AWAY. He apologized and explained the error on the warehouse end (accidentally put the wrong one on the truck to my house) and offered to have a tech come out to replace ASAP. This was over the 4th of July week, so I had plans and had to push off a few times. Even with my tricky schedule, Sam was persistent and never let me feel forgotten. I now have an ice cold home, and the thermostat was replaced seamlessly. I am excited to have Gray's continue to service my unit in the spring and fall, and can rest easy trusting in the guarantee of these guys. I highly recommend them to anyone. I am a single lady living on my own and I know how easy it is to get taken advantage of owning a home. These guys are trustworthy and a pleasure to work with. read more

Dan called me on the day our A/C unit went out and told me that he would have somebody out that day or worst case scenario the following day. He later followed up and called again saying he would have someone at our door at 8:30-9am the following day. That day is today and it's been 9 hours since a mechanic was supposed to arrive.
