You cannot beat this restaurant for cleanliness, friendly waitresses, Susan and Rhonda, wonderful meals whether it is breakfast, lunch, or sandwiches or salads. Thursday is always Fried Chicken Day, and you better get there early or otherwise it will all be gone. Prices are very reasonable, and it is a place that you want to go to every week. Went in to order me a double cheeseburger and tater tots to go. The restaurant was moderately busy inside but had a good flow of called in orders getting picked up by customers through the drive thru. The wait time for my order was fairly short, I would say less than 10 minutes from me placing my order to meal in my hand, all made fresh and to order, no heat lamp warmed tater tots here. My hand formed double cheeseburger came with the standard burger toppings on the side. It came with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions. While I waited I saw that this place has a total of 9 tables and each table seats 4 people. If you come here to eat and have to wait I would wait, you will be getting some delicious food. The decor is dated but people aren't coming here for pretty walls this is just a nice country cafe. I'll be returning again. Come here and enjoy. read more

Very good! Food was quality and reasonably priced. I got the chicken strip basket which was piping hot. Fries were also delicious. Also pretty fast service considering it is a small operation and popular place. It was pretty crowded for a Thursday lunch in early summer. Interior/decor is nothing special, jus what's needed to do the trick, which is fine. Overall, better than most small town home-style restaurants I've been too. read more

I've had several lunches here over the years but this morning I finally made it in for my first breakfast. The place was full and we had to wait for a seat, but not long. They have a very small dining area and 1 waitress who is very busy but the service is great my coffee cup was always full. I wasn't sure what I wanted and was wanting to try several different items so I went with the "Mini breakfast" which is 1 egg prepared anyway you want, hash browns, choice of bacon, sausage or ham and toast. I didn't really want the toast but wanted to try the pancakes so I substituted 1 pancake for the toast. Everything was cooked to perfection but hardly a mini breakfast. I'm now in a food coma. I'm sure we will be returning. Great food at a great price. Just wish the place was a little bigger. read more

Three Words: Chicken Fried Steak... DD#1 and I took a Road Trip to Butler, MO this morning and Dear Daughter offered to buy me lunch. Checked with yelp and found very good ratings for Gray's Cafe. The daily special on the board was chicken fried streak served with mashed potatoes and cream or brown gravy. We both ordered ours with very flavorful and rich cream gravy. There was also a choice of TWO sides and beautiful home baked rolls. I chose green beans and peas, DD got cottage cheese and peaches. Our server was so nice and kept us supplied with iced tea and when we were ready to leave asked if we'd like a couple of to-go cups and refills, which kept us from being parched on the drive back to Kansas City. I love old-fashioned diners and, after reading the other reviews on yelp, I have the feeling that Grays Cafe is one of the good ones left around. Our food was tasty and the chicken fried steak is one of the best I've ever had. The food was plentiful and reasonably priced and the service was small-town gracious and friendly. I came home and told Hubby we need to take a road trip to Butler one of these days and make a visit to Gray's Cafe. I have a feeling it will always be worth the trip. read more

Very disappointed in Grays Christmas dinner today. Pork and dressing. Pork loin was so strong you could smell it. I was first one 10:30. Did not eat it. Told Waitress it was bad. I eat in there almost every day. They made no offer to comp it. This town needs a restaurant bad. read more

The chicken strip basket is awesome! I couldn't finish it. The place is really small, but lots of locals which tells me this is the place to eat.
