Strap in, it's a doozy--
In need of a new stove and microwave, my family and I walked to Gray's Appliance (only 2 blocks from our home) because we prefer to support local businesses if possible and we had purchased a washing machine from them in the past without any issue. By the way, we've lived in Melrose for 16 years...
There was only one other customer in the showroom when we arrived who was already being assisted by an employee. We began to browse the showroom while we waited for someone to help us. We decided on a new stove and microwave while we were waiting to be helped (can you say easy sale $$$).
Dennis entered our order into their "system" and both items were in stock. Earliest delivery was for over a week later (odd but ok) and I needed to call the store first thing on the delivery date to get a "window" for delivery (again odd- pro tip: how about calling your customers with a delivery time as a courtesy???). I paid the balance (~3K) for the appliances including the $50 delivery fee and we were on our way.
As required to do, I called the store first thing on the delivery date and was given a three hour window (12-3) by Claudia. Well you guessed it, the delivery window was missed. But that's not why I'm writing this review.
The response that I received when I called the store and spoke to Claudia to inquire about when I might expect delivery and the subsequent poor customer service that was dished out by Dennis and two other un-identified store employees (more on those two later) is why I'm documenting my experience.
The call to Claudia went something like this (after 3PM)-
Me : Hi Claudia, I was expecting delivery of a couple of appliances between 12-3 and I'm...
Claudia: CUTS ME OFF: what's the name
Me: dumbfounded silence
Claudia: what's the name
Me: gave my name
Claudia: I'm calling the guys to see where they're at
Me: ???? On hold
Claudia: hello, they're making a delivery in Medford and your next
Me: Wow, ok. Can yo give me a more accurate time?
Claudia: well we don't know how long it will take between stops blah blah blah
Me: Fuse blown
Claudia: talking over me
Me: I'd like to cancel my order and get a refund
Claudia: hangs up
I call the store back-
Matt answers. I explain that I was hung up on by Claudia and I want to cancel delivery and get a full refund. He transfers me to Dennis (remember him- the guy who made the "sale"). He seems to be aware of the situation and gives me the same line about "not knowing how long it will take between stops etc. I explain that I want a refund. Dennis say's "yeah, okay" and hangs up on me.
Not wanting to take Dennis' word that this would be taken care of (and since I'm two blocks away) I walked up to the store to complete the refund in person. When I arrived with the receipt, I was told they needed my credit card in order to process the refund (hmmm, good thing that I came in person b/c apparently there wasn't a way to process the return w/o a card Dennis????). So, I had to walk back to me house to retrieve the right credit card.
Upon returning, I handed my credit card to one of the un-identified employees (big guy with mustache) and said that this whole thing could have been avoided by waiving the delivery fee and that they're losing a repeat customer. Big mustache guy than says as he's walking away from me that "I wasn't welcome back anyway". So, I suppose business must be good in order to treat customers with such disregard.
The refund was processed and on the way out the door, I believe that Matt (big guy with bald head) continued to blame me for the situation rather than in any way resolve the issue.
I hope that it's obvious that I'm upset enough about the horrible service that I received that I took the time to write this lenghthy review. I hope that helps others avoid the same hassle.
