This place is great to have a great meal or drink.. If you can reserve a cabin and stay here consider yourself lucky.. They book up quick.. Very nice place and great food. The staff are fun to converse with!

We were encouraged to make dinner reservations here as the food we were told was exceptional. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess and taken to our table. The building is a log cabin and it is so welcoming and comfortable. Our server, Erin was exceptionally courteous and happy and you could tell she loved her job. We had pre-ordered our entree as we were told it run out quickly. We both ordered the Bison Steak. We had never had Bison before and it was delicious. We were told that the Chef was extraordinary and we believe it!! Meal was a perfect size with delicious mashed potatoes and veggies. We loved the sauce that came with the Bison. We will definitely come back to this restaurant the next time we are up in this area. Thank you!!

Beautiful area! A bit pricey, but the stay includes a delicious dinner and breakfast. Beyond the tasty food there were many trails leading to places like a waterfall and lake. They also have a wide assortment of games to play. This is a great place for a romantic getaway, family vacation, team building etc. I highly recommend staying here.

While hiking in the Sierra Buttes a few months ago we stumbled upon the Gray Eagle Lodge and decided to check it out. At first look the cabin prices seemed high but after seeing what was included they are very fairly priced. The cabins come with a 3 course dinner and a breakfast. At the far side of the pictured pond is a bench the has a plaque on it about three generations of family spending time there and that pretty much says it all. I find myself hesitating to review this place because it is such a gem and I don't want it to get over booked. As you can see from the menu this is not typical lodge dinning. I had the grilled filet of Salmon with the incredibly delicious butternut squash soup. My wife had the super delicious Flatbread pizza and salad and after tasting my soup wished she had gotten that. So we ordered one to go. Service from the time Sarah checked us in to before dinner drinks from Meghan to dinner service from Jennifer was friendly and courteous. Dinner was excellent and breakfast ample. We will definitely be back for another stay.

My family enjoyed a three night stay here. In most ways, it exceeded expectations. This is a lovely region. The cabins are rustic / no frills (as advertised). The food was excellent -- great choices each morning and night, very good produce (excellent salads), and excellent desserts. We have been to other places where breakfasts and dinners are included, but rarely has the food been so good as Chef Lynn Hagen's. The site has a creek and waterfall and swimming hole, and you can walk/hike up to Smith Lake (and other other lakes nearby). The Lodge has a rowboat at Smith Lake. They will also take kayaks to nearby Salmon Lake, if you want that. We also went horseback riding (views of many lakes!) very close by. If you are looking for a delicious taste of Lakes Basin and Plumas National Forest, this is an ideal home base. Brett and Sarah and every other person on staff here were helpful and pleasant. I would go back in a heartbeat, and I hope I have the opportunity to do so.

Dining at Gray Eagle Lodge has a heart-warming traditional rustic Sierra mountain lodge ambience and feel to it. The lodge is 1/3 mile down a gravel drive from the main Lakes Basin road. I think you'll find it is well worth the drive to come to this "off the beaten path" mountain cabin and resort lodge. It has everything you would hope for and more . . . Relax by the fireplace or at the bar for a before dinner cocktail . . . Be seated at your wood table on your (padded) wood chair in one of 2 dining rooms with wood walls with huge wooden trusses supporting the peak wooden ceiling. You get the idea, but check out the photos I've uploaded too. You'll be greeted at the table by the chef, who came around 3 times during our dinner to check that everything was ok, and for very pleasant neighborly and welcoming conversation. The service was very attentive, and all of our needs were met despite the fact they were quite busy and both dining rooms were completely booked. For that reason, I highly recommend a reservation in advance. Tasty cheesy bread arrived promptly. Drinks from the bar included a nicely prepared daiquiri and a very satisfactory Merlot. Caesar salad was served in a crispy parmesan chef-made bowl. Our 2 mains included grilled salmon and prime rib. Both were very satisfactory if not spectacular. Both mains were served with twice-baked potatoes and corn on the cob. Overall very pleasing and satisfying. We had no room for dessert at the time, but brought 1 order of fresh berry cobbler back to the cabin with us for a midnight snack. Hint: don't expect a low fat dining experience. Tip: Family and Pet friendly.

Went to this lodge in May...it was opening day. The owners Brett and Lynn as well as their staff were very nice and have a gem of a place there. Checkin was easy, and we actually got to go in early! The cabin was clean, but the carpets were "moist", maybe they had just been cleaned? Not a big deal. We settled in and took a walk up to the waterfall...very nice grounds. Then back to the cabin for some relaxing and lunch. The whole place is very dog friendly...our pup had a great time. Dinner was amazing! The Chef made the best prime rib I have ever had. Also there were so many other great dishes available, all made fresh and delicious. The wait staff was polite and did a great job. I can't say enough about the food...I was excited to see the daily menu everyday. Breakfast is good as well, great potatoes and always a special to choose from. The lodge is welcoming, and the huge fireplace is so nice. One night we were treated to a live musical performance by a lone man playing guitar. He was very talented. Played lots of Beatles and even some Zepplin! What a treat. There are amazing hiking trails all around. We hiked up to Smith Lake and it was such a great hike. We have two teenagers and they loved playing with all the other kids staying there. They played tag and badminton and hide and seek at night with flashlights. It is a great family scene and we met so many nice people. So why am I taking away 2 stars??? Here is why I rated this place 3 out of 5 stars. The BED! Upon arriving both my wife and I sat on the bed and we were like OH NO! It was a very old mattress with no box spring. It was like sleeping on a plywood base with no cushion. I contacted Brett in the morning of our second day. I told him that my wife and I did not sleep well at all and that my left hand had two numb fingers because my nerve in was pinched from sleeping on that bed. He was very receptive and said he had another mattress that he would swap out for me. That day he replaced the mattress and it was better. By better I mean it did not feel like I was sleeping on plywood. But here's the thing, we were paying about $500 a night for the cabin and for me the bed is the most important element of a place to get away and rest. As of right now I would not be able to stay overnight at the lodge. But if I am ever in the area I would definitely go here for dinner! My recap is this, I really loved the lodge, the staff, and the owners. I loved the river on property, and there were so many great places to hike to. If the beds were replaced with high quality beds and were replaced every 5 years I would have booked a trip for next year. If you read this Brett and things change please let us know...we would love to come stay with you again.

Wonderful food, beautiful scenery and great hiking. Oh and it's all dog friendly too! Great get away that we've been going to for 12 years now. Love that there are no phones or tvs in the cabins. Great place to relax and really get away from it all. Loads of great hikes right out the cabin door. And the dogs love that they are allowed off leash (well, the new puppy isn't until she learns to come when called!). If Renegade and Zack could give it 10 stars they would!

If Truckee is called the Jewel of the Sierra's Then the Gray Eagle Lodge is the Sapphire of the Sierra's Warm, Hospitable staff, Awesome setting by the creek, Nice and cozy cabins, Dog friendly. Dinners (Stuffed crab Rainbow Trout) that are 5 star! Buffet breakfasts. You do NOT go hungry. Full bar with local Craft Beer on draft. Just a wonderful experience! Memories of a life time! I look forward to the return!

I have waited 16 years to finally get married and was given the green light from my fiance to have the wedding of my dreams. I searched forest wedding and Twenty Mile House was the very first one that came up. I loved that it wasn't too far of a drive away, the all inclusive packages and the accomodation option to stay on site for me and 53 of our guests. We had compared prices to similar venues but found it ridiculous that for the same price, we would only have the venue, tables and chairs at the other places. So with that, Twenty Mile House became the winner. We absolutely loved the vintage cozy look of the homes, the miles and miles of forestation leading up to and within the venue, and the most amazing staff i have ever experienced with. Both Rachel and Ashliegh were absolutely amazing! They both listened and made all of my requests come true. Some had to be compromised, but it didn't change much of my vision. Our bartender Jasper was absolutely amazing and so kind. The lights, the vibe, the music, all of the vendors... they all worked together like a well oiled machine and made every wedding planning moment up to the wedding day absolutely perfect. I'm a chill bride and solely trusted the vendors and Ashliegh on their skills and talent. I'd be lying if I wasn't nervous at times, but said yes when they said "trust us". They absolutely delivered! The cake was exactly how I'd envisioned it and was so delicious, the food was a huge hit for my husband and I and our guests (I wanted to takr home the meatballs and freeze them), the DJ was perfection, the florals were immaculate (more than what i had expected), and the photographer Rachelle was sooo kind and made our little awkward selves so comfortable. We had hired a non preferred videographer for our day but both Rachelle and Ashliegh worked well with them. Thank you Twenty Mile House for making our dream wedding a reality! We will definitely come back one day and rent one of your homes as an Air Bnb, just so we can relive a little piece of our wedding. Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you!

My sides were cool, but my steak was excellent and my husband's order was perfect. The issue is the incredibly poor service. It took over 30 mins to get our drinks, over and hour to get our meal. The table next to us mentioned that it took 45 mins to get their bottle of wine. Both tables agreed had the server communicated they were short staffed and acknowledged us during our wait it we would have felt better about the situation. We were at Longboards last week and they had just let a few employees leave early since they were not busy. Then the rush arrived. Our busboy brought us water and explained that they were a short staffed, but the server would get to us as soon as she could. Dinner took a bit longer than expected, but it was within a reasonable time frame. The one server and busboy were very attentive and our three cocktails arrived quicly each time we ordered. When paying our bill we complimented the service and noticed that the restaurant was full and there was only one server and one busboy. She mentioned that the busboy was the manager and he steps in anytime help is needed. Nakoma management needs to visit Longboards and take a lesson back home.

Their "lodge" is better described as a clean, quiet convenience hotel. I completely agree with other reviews - who thought a window in the bathroom was a good idea? My roommate used the bathroom in the night and the light woke me up! Stupid design! The pool, fitness center, and casual dining are in a building about 1 mile up the road. Unfortunately, they don't open early so the in-room Keurig coffee maker is all you have. We were there for a 2-day golf tournament played at Graeagle and Plumas Pines with a 7:30am check-in, so we had to drive to Portola to find a place for to-go breakfast and coffee. We had to double back to the golf course. Nothing in this area is close. Cars are a must, so if someone is golfing early and takes your only car, the rest of you are stranded! Up the hill further is the main lodge. The beamed ceiling room in all their photos is their restaurant. The food was very good. Local vacationers shared it is one of the two really good restaurants in the area (Iron Door is the other, btw.) Get an early reservation if you want to sit outside or at a view table. More than 1/3 of the tables don't have a view. The bar, adjacent to the pro shop in that building is tiny and has no view at all. Not much of a 19th hole! It appeared most golfers rejoin their families by the pool, where the casual dining/bar is. The pro shop for the Dragon had lots of souvenirs and men's golf merch. There was very little women's golf merch. Nakoma appears more interested in selling lots. There are a number of gates to neighborhoods that appear empty. If this area develops, they have plans for a Market on the property, but it's TBD. If you are used to mid to high end resorts, it will disappoint. If you want a clean non-rustic hotel room, this place works. All the other local options are either very rustic or vacation rentals.
