We returned this past weekend for a 2-day trip for my birthday and brought the whole family (5kids). There are rental villas that are large enough for our family - we stayed in a 3BR that had tons of space to spread out, watch movies in the evenings, enjoy the hottub on the deck. It was right across the parking lot from the clubhouse, which was our favorite part of this weekend. Our family enjoyed the gym, the climbing wall, basketball, pool table, foosball, video games, and of course the pool and the hot tub. The restaurant at the clubhouse was perfect for poolside snacks. The service was amazing - the staff greeted us warmly and helped us enjoy everything there was to offer. We were able to go on a couple of hikes right from our villa. The beautiful golf course made me wish I was a golfer! A wonderful Resort that we can't wait to visit again!

Nakoma Resort is a beautiful property, and this was not my first stay here. The setting,…read morefacilities, and overall atmosphere are wonderful, which is why my recent experience was so disappointing. We arrived at night during a power outage. There were no lights available in the building, including no visible emergency lighting, and the elevators were not working. Our room was originally on the second floor, but because I have knee problems and cannot easily use stairs, the night staff member was very kind and helped us by finding a room on the ground floor. I truly appreciated her professionalism and willingness to help during a difficult situation. What left a negative impression was the interaction at checkout the next morning. Instead of acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the power outage, I felt as though we were expected to be grateful for being placed in a different room because it happened to be one of the resort's nicer accommodations. To be clear, the room change was necessary because of the resort's power issue, not a special favor. While the property itself remains beautiful, the lack of emergency lighting and the response from the front desk the following morning raise concerns about both guest safety and customer service. Unfortunately, after this experience, I'm not sure I would choose to stay here again. If this was other hotel chain I will be even refunded because the inconveniences!!

I knew exactly where I left it. When I called the lodge and advised of this they stated they'd look for it and check with cleaning crew and call me back. They did call me back and stated nobody had seen it. I knew exactly where I placed it before I checked out and they were insistent nobody had seen it. IMO, a small amount of decency and integrity speak volumes and will get my referrals as well as repeat business. I'd rather have an ok steak with exceptional customer service than a fabulous steak with poor customer service. Honesty is free and anybody can do it!

They do offer a document that outlines local hikes, which was helpful. Nancy was very kind and left a map and our information by the main cabin since we arrived after 8:30 PM. We also forgot our key, and she was able to help us out by locking our cabin and leaving us an extra set of keys. I love that they offer a complimentary breakfast in the morning, which comes with sausage or bacon, and some fruit and a baked good. The waitresses, Jennifer and Kelsey, were so sweet and were so friendly towards my 4 year old - we felt welcome there! Everything felt very quaint and cabin-like. Everything was pretty up to date as well--this is an excellent glamping option! The bed itself was not the most comfortable, but it all still worked out.

I've been to Gold Lake Lodge three years in a row, and plan on continuing to return. Let me tell…read moreyou a bit about what you can expect: The Lodge is set off a couple hundred yards from Gold Lake Highway, nestled in the woods at the trailhead to Round Lake. (You'll see a lot of day-trippers parked at the trailhead -- just hang a right to drive into the Gold Lake Lodge campground.) The campground is made up of three tent cabins, about a dozen small cabins, and the main dining room. Those who stay in the tent cabins will get a slightly more rustic experience: you'll have a full bed and a dresser in the tent, but bathrooms and showers are in separate outhouse-like structures (perfectly clean, hot water, flushable toilets, etc.). Those in cabins will live in luxury with their own bathroom and shower. Both can accommodate 2-3 people depending on how much you like one another, but 2 is probably the right number for most. Prices are substantially cheaper for the tent cabins than the cabin-cabins, but both are reasonable. The price tag includes a full-blown breakfast, snacks for lunch, and a gut-busting dinner. Meals are served family style, and you'll quickly learn the ins and outs about which dishes to order, but everything will leave you full. Steak features prominently on the menu, but there are many other options too. My favorites? The pork loin with "Gold Lake sauce" (whatever that is!) and the Buffalo burger (also, not coincidentally, with "Gold Lake sauce"). For breakfast, you can't miss with the "Gold Lake scramble". (See the pattern?) For dessert, the "szarlotka" -- Polish apple pie -- is the runaway favorite. The lodge is run by the ever-helpful John, and ably staffed by a small gaggle of Polish students, who return year after year and add a little bit of cosmopolitanism to the woods. Perfect for all types, very close to amazing hikes and lakes... pretty hard not to give it 5 stars.
