The integrity of the staff. I had a wonderful visit and our cabin was perfect. I checked out and 1.5 hours after I checked out, I realized I left a priceless necklace behind. I knew exactly where I left it. When I called the lodge and advised of this they stated they'd look for it and check with cleaning crew and call me back. They did call me back and stated nobody had seen it. I knew exactly where I placed it before I checked out and they were insistent nobody had seen it. IMO, a small amount of decency and integrity speak volumes and will get my referrals as well as repeat business. I'd rather have an ok steak with exceptional customer service than a fabulous steak with poor customer service. Honesty is free and anybody can do it! read more

Stayed here when we went to a wedding at Nakoma Resort! This was a great choice for a family! My husband and 4 year old daughter stayed in number six, the Shire, and was really pleased with our stay! The lodge is quite close to the Nakoma resort, and is absolutely beautiful. They do offer a document that outlines local hikes, which was helpful. Nancy was very kind and left a map and our information by the main cabin since we arrived after 8:30 PM. We also forgot our key, and she was able to help us out by locking our cabin and leaving us an extra set of keys. I love that they offer a complimentary breakfast in the morning, which comes with sausage or bacon, and some fruit and a baked good. The waitresses, Jennifer and Kelsey, were so sweet and were so friendly towards my 4 year old - we felt welcome there! Everything felt very quaint and cabin-like. Everything was pretty up to date as well--this is an excellent glamping option! The bed itself was not the most comfortable, but it all still worked out. read more

This is the only place we stay when we go to the Lost Sierra for golf! We love it and the rooms are special and private and immaculate! The people are nice and the scenery is unreal gorgeous! The Lodge is greatly enhanced by the surrounding natural beauty that you can readily see. What is less obvious is the great staff that go out of their way to make sure you have an amazing time. They are excellent, accommodating, and very friendly. The cabins are comfortable - nice sheets, great bed - and very clean. Outside, the air is crisp and fragrant with loads of stars visible on clear nights. While I think it would be wise for the Lodge to post their menus online, I can attest the breakfasts are excellent. Friends had dinner and reported it too was quite tasty. If you are into the region and looking for a comfortable place to stay, please look no further! The girlfriend and I frequent Whitehawk Lodge a couple of times a month. Katie and Brenton and staff are warm, welcoming and make great food. We routinely direct friends and others there. They are one of the best restaurants in the Lost Sierra and unfortunately will be missed when they shutdown for the winter season (most places do). If you get a chance to get there - the drinks are good, pull apart rolls, soups (both the corn and squash), brick chicken, etc are all recommended. We prefer to sit outside and they do get busy. Sometimes you can get lucky with a seat at the bar if they are booked up. read more

Rustic but very lovely little cabin for two! Thoroughly enjoyed our quiet and relaxing two nights at this well run lodge/small resort. Great decor, comfortable beds, nature views, delicious breakfast and many thoughtful touches. Pool and tennis courts too! Staff is super friendly. This is one charming place that is low key and a great place if you want to get away and play some golf on a great course, in a great part of California. GOLF: You play amongst some gorgeous tall fines and furs on fairways that are impeccably maintained. The course opens around the second week in May if memory serves me correctly. Not that long, from the tips the course becomes quiet sporty, around 6900. Greens are quick for a resort course. And in great shape. CABINS: Cool cabins are where you stay. They are new but designed with respect for the healthy tradition of the cabin in America. All clean, well maintained. About 13 of them. One is always sold out and on the lake. I always see the people living in there fishing and catching actual fish. Neat. FOOD: The Restaurant has solid food at a good price. Nothing to flashy, save the service which is made so because everyone is so nice. You can get everything from salads, to crab wontons, to steaks, ribs, and fresh fish. I got the grilled rack of lamb which was awesome. read more

This place is located where the boonies go to get away from it all. But it's worth the 60 minute drive north of Truckee, and it is a very scenic route. Once there, you'll find a terrific practice facility. The driving range is wide open and there's a good chipping and putting area. While the onsite apres-golf offerings are all but non-existent, the pro shop is nice and the snack shack does a nice job (they even bakes their own cookies and cinnamon rolls). The course? Gorgeous. There are several long par 4s which seem fully cognizant of the extra distance you gain when hitting at altitude. Holes vacillate between narrow and wide open, and long grass comes into play frequently. Also in play is a wide network of little creeks, which sound so nice and look so inviting that you won't mind much if they swallow a ball or two. The greens were in great shape and rolled true, and we were warned that they don't break as much as you think they do. Like many courses, some of the holes are tough if you don't know the layout. A few blind approaches can land you in trouble. But like that memorable old flame of yours, it sure is pretty trouble. read more

From Karen DeFoe: My stay at Whitehawk Lodge was extremely pleasant. The cabin was very comfortable and very clean. The staff was quite personable and accommodating. The woman at the front desk greeted us with a smile and made us feel welcomed. The staff supplied us with fresh towels upon request and even helped us with adjusting the shower heads to suite our personal needs. The wine selections were goods d the price was even better - very reasonable. The breakfast was very good - some original choices - fresh baked goods - scrambled eggs and meat choices. Everything tasted great! The appetizers on our first evening were fabulous - plentiful and delicious - loved them! The closing dinner was delightful. The shrimp cocktail was a definite favorite for me and having three fabulous desserts was amazing. I especially enjoyed the chocolate mouse. It was truly to die for. Finally, I have to say the service in the dinning room was perfect. The servers were prompt, very friendly, and made us feel that they were happy to have us there. I would definitely recommend Whitehawk Lodge as a beautiful place to stay. I plan on returning with my daughter in the spring. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. read more

Loved the cabins. Was pleasantly surprised very relaxing experience and wonderful staff.

Our party of three had a wonderful dinner here. The service was excellent and the setting is beautiful inside and out. Our entrees included pork chop, burger, and the barramundi special. We each had an appetizer and desert. All were great but especially outstanding was the chocolate sorbet with olive oil and sea salt, maybe the best desert of all time. We thought the bill of about $50 each, before tip, was more than fair. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Whitehawk Lodge is a special place, away from the Tahoe crowds. The cabins are tasteful decorated with about everything you could want. Sitting on the deck overlooking the high Sierra meadow is wonderful. The staff is warm and friendly. Erin the owner, is always looking for ways to improve your visit. We found the breakfasts to be fresh and tasty. The chef who prepares the evening feast does an outstanding job and the menu leave little to desire. The quail and vegetables were cooked to perfection. They also had venison as a another item. We can't wait to go there again. read more

Wow, were we lucky to find this place through Yelp! Everything was so nice and well turned out. We stayed in the lovely "Buckskin" cabin and loved everything about it. I am not sure if our favorite thing was how nice it was not to share a wall with others or the pleasure of sitting on our porch while we listened to the birds sing. We can't wait to go back! The breakfasts were delicious and the staff was quite attentive but a small complaint is that it would have been nice if the main breakfast dish was prepared so that the meat would come separately as I believe it would have been fairly easy to do with the hash brown casserole. Please don't make the vegetarians feel like second class citizens. Also, the refrigerator in the unit is fairly noisy. It was remiss of me not to mention this when I checked out. Oh, and the windows are a little difficult to open and close. All in all, I can't wait to come back to this wonderful place. read more

My wife and I had a lovely stay at the Lodge. This gem of a resort offers unrivaled privacy with their individual cabins, each with its own jacuzzi tub. The cabins are clean, comfortable and modern without the kitsch found in so many small-town lodges. We enjoyed sipping cocktails on our own private patio, comfortably nestled in deeply-cushioned adirondack chairs as we watched a spectacular sunset. The staff was an absolute pleasure to meet and were generous with their time, offering suggestions on where to go and what to see. The complimentary breakfast was delicious (especially the pumpkin muffins and honey butter -- yum!). Next time we'll skip the trip into town and enjoy dinner at the Lodge. We had dinner tonight at the lodge to celebrate some of our birthdays and have a nice night out. I must say the food here was really fantastic! The filet mignon my sister had was incredibly good, I had the Ono with Dungeness mashed potatoes, it was wonderful! My husband had the best pasta dish I have ever had. Quite the wonderful dinner ! The one star is for the location. I couldn't comment on the food because we never got any. We had a reservation and were seated at 5:30 pm expecting to have a nice dinner. By 5:50, we had gotten water, menus, and a tablespoon each of raw tuna. Had the restaurant been busy, I could have understood. There was a couple outside (seated after we were), who had ordered and received their drinks. We were the only people inside, aside from three wait staff folding napkins and the bartender behind the bar who was enjoying a glass of wine. Our waiter had disappeared. We hailed the bus girl and asked her to send our server. We waited 7 more minutes before deciding to go elsewhere. We passed our waiter outside who was finishing up a personal cell phone call. If you're looking for great food and good service, go elsewhere. read more

I'll be as succinct as possible. This is our favorite "get away from it all and just relax, doing nothing but what we want to do" place! It has a "rustic luxuriousness" that is quite winning. The cabins are very comfortable, with no phones and a small tv that only receives a few channels. The bed is incredibly comfortable! The only negative in the cabin is a small bathroom, but we've been getting around that for 12 years now! A gourmet breakfast is served in the lodge from 7:30-9:30 am, and it's never failed to deliver the delicious! The owners, Jerry and Mary Ann, are genial hosts, pulling out all the stops to assure that our stay is memorable! They are great, as are the rest of the staff! (Special nods to Erin and Michelle!) It's not cheap to stay here, but you'll find that it's well worth it. The stress just melts away and your battery gets recharged for dealing with "real life." If I could only choose one getaway destination for the rest of my life, Whitehawk would be it. Check it out. read more

We came here to play golf at the Whitehawk course and take a three day "Golf Made Simple" course. (See my other review). The lodge is an easy drive, about an hour outside of Reno/Tahoe airport. Driving through some flat, rural terrain, you enter a beautiful wooded mountainous area before reaching the Lodge. The Lodge is in a very serene, peaceful setting with great mountain and sunset views. It consists of 14 Charming and well separated cabins. I had thought the cabin would be stripped down and basic, but I was mistaken. Each is beautifully decorated and surprisingly well-appointed. Each cabin has a theme. Ours was "The American Revolution". It was very nicely designed with period artwork and many detailed accent pieces. There were unexpected amenities such as a refrigerator, coffee machine, air conditioning, iron and board, etc. Each cabin has a private driveway making for effortless parking and fast "in and out". There is a small, comfortable lodge with a nice restaurant. Also a well-maintained pool, hot tub, tennis courts. Be Forewarned: There is no Wifi in the rooms, and it was non-functional in the lodge. This was actually a nice disconnect for me, but don't count on internet access if you come here. Nearby you can shop and sight see in Graeagle, and Lakes basin. We found several very good restaurants within 15 minutes. The Lodge is family owned and run. It felt like a cozy B & B. The owners are a family and they are also the staff. They could not be any more friendly, welcoming or accommodating. The Lodge restaurant has a happy hour and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. All were very good. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! read more

The Lodge at WhiteHawk is a really great find. Only 40 minutes from Truckee, you'll find yourself free from the Tahoe crush and in the midst of a really pleasant and wide open outdoor setting. The cabins are upscale, modern and sophisticated but at the same time, set amongst the peace and quiet of the trees and graced with wide open views. There is also a beautiful golf course that is part of the property (WhiteHawk Ranch is rated #14 Best Public Couse in California by GolfWeek). Every fairway is perfect and framed by beautiful pines trees. If you don't want to play golf, no sweat as there is a nice pool area and also, a really nice restaurant that is part of the Lodge where you'll have great breakfasts and you can also grab a nice dinner and a drink on the porch. The Lodge staff is very friendly and very service oriented. Check it out if you want to enjoy a weekend of peace and quiet in a really nice, outdoor setting! read more

She was everywhere at once and made sure everything was perfect. We were treated like royalty for their weekend and couldn't have been happier. This place over exceeded our expectation. When you book a cabin you don't really expect to get hotel service but here you get it. The cabin was clean and well maintained. Ours had a nice long porch where we could sit and watch the sunset. The breakfast was included and home made, fresh orange juice and fruits. The cabin was cleaned every day in the same manner as a better hotel. We had dinner with them every evening and everything we ordered was just great. We worked us through more or less the complete menu. All the staff was easy and fun to be around. They seams to have such a good time together and that shows in the way they treated us. If you, like us, want to play golf you have the Whitehawk Golf Course just next door. Beautiful course. There are other courses to choose from in te area but we played only two, this and the Dragon. Dragon was simply useless as a course, all to difficult to be fun and not as maintained as Whitehawk. We are year round residents of Whitehawk Ranch. Each season we make an effort to eat at our local restaurants. Tonight we had dinner at the Lodge. We were shocked when we arrived that the dining room was empty and there were only 3 tables occupied on the patio. I understand now why. Our service was painfully slow. It took 10 minutes just to order wine. It took another 10 for it to be served. Our dinner came about a half hour after it was ordered. My husbands pork tenderloin was overlooked and my grilled chicken breast was dry and tasteless. I really would expect more. When we were ready to leave my husband had to go back in to the dining room to settle our check since we did not receive one. The hostess did adjust the check to remove an entree, but as much as we would like to support our local restaurants we won't be returning. read more

so we ate here Sunday night for the prime rib special, it was also my birthday dinner. All I can say is, not good. I made a reservation several days ahead and had opted for the prime rib medium rare. When we got there, my wife ordered a coke, what we got had zero carbonation and the syrup ratio was way off. We asked the waitress for a new one and suggested that she taste it first so she could see what we meant. She brought back a new coke which she clearly had not tried herself first. It was the same problem. Then when our food came, my order for a medium rare prime rib, was medium well. Not how you do a prime rib. It was dry and not tender. My wife's filet, was more akin to a pot roast. Flakey meet like a roast, not a filet mignon. It was also over cooked. When I sent my prime rib back, the waitress said that the one she brought me was one of the rarer pieces they had. Who eats prime rib medium well or well done. The best pieces are always rare or medium rare. When it came to desert, the menu had all kinds of great things, they were out of 75% of them. We could have a scoop of ice cream, or a chocholate cake. Very disappointing. I hope this was just a bad night for them and that it's not indicative of the norm. If this is normal, they will be gone soon, because you can't run a restaurant like that. read more

We love Whitehawk Lodge and try to spend as many weekends during the Summer as possible. The staff and accommodations will exceed your expectations. We brought our family there last year and they can't wait to go back. Our kids love it because of the pool and tennis courts and our dogs love the dog pond and the beautiful trails.
