pots and pans in Bridge Cabin
Mary R.

We tried to make reservations two years in a row and finally got a weekend that was available in June. First of all making reservations could be easier if they would allow you to do so online. You have to email or call. You can't go in and check availability on a website. We stayed at the Bridge cabin which is cute and has everything you could possibly need. You do however have to bring your own bedding. The cabin in stocked with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, cooking utensils. They also provide a weber so you don't need to bring your BBQ. You don't really need to bring cookware with you. To get to the bridge cabin, and the other cabins, you need to cross a bridge and this can get tricky. They do however provide carts for you to carry everything across the bridge. There were two things that I didn't enjoy: the bugs and the drive up there. To get there we had to take the 49 and its a long windy road to get there. At least 45 minutes of turns. If you get car sick, I don't recommend this site unless there's a different way to get there. Had I known there was a winding road to get there that went on and on, I probably would have cancelled. This however is not the fault of Sierra Stream Side cabins. It just happens to be located off the 49. Once there, honestly there isn't much to do. The town is small, and not much there. The cabin is cute, and it was an experience, but I don't think I'd go back. It's too long of a drive, winding road is too long, too many bugs and not much to do. The sign letting you know to turn into the parkway is very small and easy to miss and needs to be bigger. It's about an 8 minute drive from town to the site. One last thing, if you are someone who needs wifi, there isn't any and you will need to drive to town and even then it might be difficult. It took two years to be able to make it there and I'm glad we did. I can cross it off my list now.

Bridge cabin

We stayed in the Bridge Cabin which was literally right next to the river. It was so nice being able to listen to the soothing sound of the river tumbling over the boulders and providing a relaxing backdrop for a quite mountain getaway. The hosts were absolutely wonderful as they were friendly, helpful and were very attentive to details making our stay quite pleasant.

We booked the Bridge cabin for my Birthday weekend. My husband,step-son, and I felt very at home and RELAXED in this 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabin. I arrived in the afternoon, and began to "move in" to our weekend retreat, while awaiting the arrival of my boys! And it was truly a "treat." No cell phone, internet, or tv. The sound of the river was enough. Completely stocked with all you need to prepare meals and dine. The beds were very comfortable, with fresh linens. Plenty of extra blankets and towels for our use. Yvonne and Paul were so informative and kind to us. One and a half day stay was NOT enough. The Bridge cabin our "home away from home." We'll be back..... :)

We really enjoyed ourselves here. Yvonne and Jim are very nice people. Hearing the river is fantastic. It's rustic and needs a little work but that shouldn't detour you from staying here. No one bothers you from the other cabins. We stayed in the Bridge Cabin and the rate was reasonable. Good size kitchen with frig and stove. Sleeping rooms were a nice size and the bathroom was small but it worked and was clean. Bring bug repellant in the summer (remember your near the water). Close to Downieville and Sierra City. Would stay here again.

Love, love, love this place. We will be back! Had a problem with the shower and the owner came out as soon as he could to help. It ended up being an operator error. Then he came by to check on us the next morning to make sure "everything was working". We rented the Shotgun. Cute, kitchen was fully stocked with the essentials and the beds were comfy. If you are looking for a place to get away from cell phones, internet and technology this is the place to be. Situated right on the river. The funnest part for my 8 year old was the bridge we had to cross to get to the cabin...good times, good times!

Exactly what we hoped for! We just returned from our first of many to come stays at Sierra Streamside Cabins. Our party of four adults and 2 dogs stayed in the Bridge Cabin. Upon arrival our two dogs could not contain their excitement of running and running and running across the bridge - awesome! The carts provided to transport your belonging across the bridge, are ideal! The cabin was clean and inviting - Yvonne came over to welcome us after our arrival. Since the other cabins where vacant at the moment she gave us a tour and history of the cabins. For being built long ago - great job for maintaining them as well as they do! The cabin had plenty of cookware, newer stove and fridge. The stream is amazing and if you have dogs like ours who love being outdoors and swimming this is a must! You can find a nice rock by the stream, drink your coffee, enjoy the peace or hang out on the provided patio set. Thank you for no phones, TV or internet. There are plenty of reading books and board games in cabin for game night. The Sierras offer you vast hiking adventures; we took advantage of Yvonne's recommendation for Sierra Buttes Lookout - great views from the top. If you go take plenty of water and it is a bit windy at the summit. We will defiantly make this an annual trip - Thank you very much!

The love and care that has been put into their guests having a perfect experience is obvious the second you arrive. You are greeted by the friendliest staff and you will find your personalized envelope with everything you need to kick off your stay. We stayed in the Feather Suite and it was spacious with a nice welcome book that tells you about the staff, the local restaurants, sites to see nearby and the number to text if you need anything at all. They do host a happy hour a couple doors down at Boomtown and depending on when you are staying, you may catch trivia night. Coffee and breakfast are pretty much right outside your door. Everywhere we went had #vegan options too. This location is incredible. You can fall asleep to the sound of the river or sit out on the patio to relax. Everything is just a few steps from your door. We walked right across the street to Jadaa's restaurant for lunch one of the days we were here. The town closes up fairly early do you don't need to worry about noise. You will get the best nights sleep here.

What do you get? Very basic motel room, with no air conditioning (fans are provided) and basic kitchen and bathroom amenities. It was great to have a full kitchen though, plus an outdoor BBQ - we brought a ton of food and drinks with us and we ate very, very well. Why bother? It's CHEAP and located in a beautiful stretch of road by the Yuba River. Just walk across the street to soak in the river to cool off or to try some fly fishing. About 15 minutes away by car is the cute little town of Downieville, a mecca for outdoor sports. This was a great alternative for a quick, CHEAP getaway - no crowds, no noise, just you and your two and four-legged friends out in nature. The owners/managers are a hoot - they'll gab til the cows come home, but are actually very nice and do as much as they can to make you feel comfy.

The old Bank AmeriCard sign out front says just how long this place has been going since the last remodel- 1969? But that's what makes it so unique. Plenty of parking. Our host was a real 'clamper'- gold miner that is- knew the gold miner language and life style almost too well...talked our ear off. But he made sure we were all situated and gave us some tips on how to get to the swimmin hole by the river. Don't get any ideas about being a claim jumper though! the river is fully staked in these here parts. This is for those that like the highway 49 historic feeling and a way to know the real thing. Kokanee is a type of salmon species common to Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River. The person who named the place must have been trying to lure fisherman. Oh, and the Forest around Kokanee Kabins is big and beautiful and heavenly. Bring your favorite drinks and a camera and call Kokanee Kabins home for a weekend. If you're not into funky best to go up the road to Butte's Inn or High Country Inn.

We chose the Rabbit Creek Inn after talking to the proprietor, Luci, who agreed to help us with securing our bikes for the night. We were supposed to be there at about 4pm, but we didn't make it until 7! Luci greeted us when we arrived, and offered to let us park the bikes inside, on the ground floor. The ground floor was in the process of being refurbished, and rolling the bikes in there wouldn't damage anything. She then showed us to our room; it was upstairs, in the main building, and in the back. There was a door leading out onto the lower level's roof; more construction was being done back there, and Luci said we could hang our wet riding gear out on the roof to dry; it was a HUGE help not to have all that gear hanging in our room! Upstairs, in the main building, there's three guest rooms. Along the hallway, it was great to see coloring materials, puzzles, board games, and other family-oriented goodies for the guests. Coffee and tea makings were also available. The thoroughly clean room came with a queen bed as well as a futon with a full-size double mattress. Both of the beds were VERY comfortable. Since the general store, in town, was closed until the next day, we had to pack in our own food. Not only was there the usual fridge, microwave, and kitchenette sink, Luci had also stocked the room with plates, utensils, and all of the other sundries needed for dining in your room. Our room was a definite four-star room; clean, comfortable, and well equipped. What made the experience worth another star was our interaction with Luci; she was a great host and super helpful! I thoroughly recommend staying here when considering a stop in La Porte! My brother and I genuinely look forward to staying there again!

EDIT TO ADD: Steve is not the owner. We were misinformed by him…read more One of the most unprofessional and upsetting experiences we've had during our wedding planning process. This venue had been my number one choice since the first time I heard about it. After getting engaged, I submitted an inquiry but was too excited to wait, so about a week later I called for more information. I spoke directly with the owner, Steve Hines. We discussed pricing and decided to schedule a tour. Since we live over two hours away, I explained that we were hoping for a weekend appointment. Steve told me he would email me, and we scheduled a tour for August 9, 2026 at 2pm. We confirmed the appointment and drove over two hours to see the venue. We arrived a few minutes early and went inside, but all the lights were off and no one was there. I called out for Steve several times with no response. Just before our scheduled 2pm tour, I called him and left a voicemail asking where we should meet. A few minutes after 2, I called again to see if he was simply running late. I called both phone numbers that were provided, only to find that the office number forwarded directly to his cell phone. At that point, I became genuinely concerned that something might have happened to him. We walked around the property looking for anyone, went back inside calling his name, and even drove over to the rental properties he also owns after seeing a work crew nearby. We truly thought there might have been an emergency. Instead, we spent over an hour waiting, calling multiple times, and sending a text message. That text was read, yet we never received a reply, an apology, or any explanation for why no one showed up. As of August 16, 2026, we still have not received a single response. To make matters worse, the venue was unlocked with no staff present, and there was trash left on the bar along with cups sitting outside. This venue was the one I was most excited to see, so it's incredibly disappointing that the decision to book there was taken away by a complete lack of communication. I understand that emergencies and unexpected situations happen. What I cannot understand is choosing not to communicate with people who have invested hours of their day, traveled a significant distance, and arranged their schedules for an appointment that you agreed to. We spent over four hours driving, plus more than an hour waiting at the venue, only to be completely ignored. A 30-second text saying the appointment needed to be canceled or rescheduled would have shown basic courtesy and respect for our time. If this is the level of communication provided before a contract is even signed, it did not give us confidence that our wedding day would be handled any differently. We chose to take our business elsewhere, and I sincerely hope no other couple has to experience the same level of disregard for their time.

Lots of hiking and biking trails close by as well. We just came back from our 5th family reunion at the hotel and have already booked our dates for the 6th. We are a family that loves to cook and we couldn't ask for a better kitchen set up. We have literally scoured every vacation rental site available and have never found a property like this one, where the entire hotel is yours for your stay. It's a special place and if you have a large group to accommodate, we highly recommend this one! It is about an hour from the nearest grocery store so you'll want to think through your meal plans/shopping lists ahead of time.
