It was our last day in Nashville, so we decided to have one last nice meal before heading to the airport. I searched online for dog-friendly restaurants and Gray & Dudley on 3rd Ave came up. I called first just to double check and spoke with Kita. She was extremely friendly from the very beginning. She explained that we could definitely stay around the lounge area and even told us about the timing -- before 2pm we could still order from the full brunch menu, while after 3pm it switches to happy hour with limited choices for $7. Lol. I told her we needed to catch our flight by 7pm, so we planned to arrive before 1pm. When we got there, the place was absolutely beautiful. So classy, elegant, and those huge grand windows made the atmosphere even more amazing. She showed us the lounge area and it was perfect -- very comfortable leather couches and beautiful marble-looking tables. You can check out the photos. Kita was incredibly attentive and welcoming. She handed us the menu and I asked her a huge favor so I could prepare food for my doggies. She truly helped make our visit easy, comfortable, and completely hassle-free. And the food? AMAZING. Again, check out the photos.I ordered the omelet with potatoes and it was exactly how I wanted it. My husband had the ham, cheese, and egg breakfast sandwich with potatoes. My son had a sandwich too -- I forgot the name. We also ordered biscuits and gravy because, after all, we're in Tennessee... that's basically a must! And their cappuccino? Probably one of the heartiest cappuccinos I've ever had. If I lived in Nashville, this would absolutely be my go-to spot to hang out with friends. Everything looked and tasted amazing. While Kita shared stories and recommendations about Nashville, my dogs were happily fed, our tummies were full, and honestly, it became one of the best dining experiences I've had. Any establishment that welcomes my dogs -- who are basically my kids now -- will definitely earn my business. I truly recommend this place whether you have a fur baby or not. I still don't understand why so many establishments only allow "service animals." As long as dogs are well-behaved, why not welcome them too? Gray and Dudley is a very chic hole in the wall restaurant. It has a full bar and a decent amount of tables although it's not a huge place. The service was great throughout the night and we were seated quickly although we were early for our reservation. The night seemed slow for a Sunday evening. I'd say max 3 other tables were filled while we were eating. I was disappointed to see that the menu was not as extensive as anticipated. The majority of the menu was sides and snacks with only 4 entrees available. Apparently their menu is not updated everywhere (including Yelp) only on the restaurant website. There was also a problem with the valet. On the website it says $15 for 1-4 hours at the restaurant but the hotel did not honor this and tried to charge $30 for 0-4 hours. The restaurant didn't have a voucher system either so it just made for a bit of chaos. read more

Not a bad spot, but has what I feel like is the more typical "hotel restaurant" feel to it. Food and drinks were quite enjoyable (some creative cocktails well worth a try!), but prices were a bit steep (I know, downtown Nashville, but commenting on value). Service was excellent, which I always appreciate. Vibe was just kind of...there. Maybe I've been on off nights, just wasn't anything making me feel I need to return. We were visiting from out of town and I found this restaurant through some Nashville food sites with great reviews -- and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We had made a reservation, and when we arrived, we realized we were the only ones in the restaurant. It honestly felt like they had stayed open just for us. The atmosphere was so intimate and special that it felt like I had rented out the entire place for my boyfriend's birthday. It made the evening incredibly personal and memorable. The food was absolutely delicious -- every dish was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully prepared. You could tell real care went into everything coming out of the kitchen. The staff was wonderful as well -- welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind without ever being overbearing. It turned out to be the perfect spot to celebrate, and I'm so glad we chose it. The front door to this place is a little difficult to find. You have to walk down the alley and the door is at the very end. When our group first walked in, we weren't greeted at all. The bartender and server both saw my group standing at the entrance (nobody was behind the desk) and still continued to not greet us. We stood there for 5 min before anyone acknowledged our presence. It was quite unsettling. Finally we were approached my the manager who was fabulous. He got our table ready and was extremely friendly and chatty. The bartender ended up being our server. Gray & Dudley is a very unique restaurant, situated in some sort of art exhibit that you can tour for free afterward. The food was pretty good and the service attentive. Food 4/5: 1. Smoked fish schmear (came with pita, housemade potato chips, and toasted french bread slices) 5/5: Wow the schmear is so so delicious. It was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of saltiness and a lingering hint of smoke after I swallowed each bite. The waiter said there were unlimited refills of the chips, and he gave us a huge refill that made us want to order another schmear. if I ever came back here, I would just order every type of schmear and dip; that would be my dinner. 2. GD burger 3/5: Bread was too thick and not given any special treatment (I would have expected a bit more sear or buttery flavor given that it was supposed to be a gourmet burger). Nothing special. I would probably try some other entree if I returned to the restaurant. 3. Fish with hush puppies 4/5: I have never eaten hush puppies before so I was not sure what to expect. I think they are just balls of cornmeal, so it was nice to dip it into the puree for more flavor. Had heard a lot about Gray & Dudley so figured it would be a great date night spot. Booked a reservation for a Tuesday night dinner. My girlfriend & I showed up and wanted to experience the art galleries they had to offer within the restaurant. Our server was very helpful providing wine recommendations. We grabbed a bottle of wine, filled our glasses, then went and walked around to see the art which was super cool. Never been in a restaurant that had something like that. Beautiful restaurant, very well decorated and neat spot for dinner however...the service was slow and our duck entree, while being very tasty, came out cold and literally only 2 strips of duck for $40! And barely a side, which was one leak. We ordered the Brussels sprouts which were delicious and the French onion dip - also delicious. The pimento cheese dip was too salty and the fish dip didn't taste like anything. Everything was very overpriced here and I'm still not over duck being so expensive and it looked like half the plate was missing. While staying at the C21 I stopped in here (which is the C21 restaurant and bar) one evening for a cocktail as a nightcap, after dinner. The vibe is nice and the décor is modern industrial. They have a nice cocktail list and food menu and the bartender offered decent service, which was fast. Her recommended cocktail was really good, it's called F*&% Love. Prices are fair. A quiet on-site restaurant at the 21C Museum Hotel. We didn't really want to bother with reservations at a busy restaurant in town since we weren't that hungry, so we decided to come down here for a quick bite. Staff was polite, ambience was calm, with dimmed lights, we felt it was a good choice to be here. What a shame we didn't have the appetite as their menu looked good. We only settled on a Wedge Salad and an appetizer sized Mac and Cheese. Neither was too outstanding but they hit the spot. I had a feeling the entrees would be as good as described on the menu. Wow! This was a random Nashville find during a rainy evening. Ambiance is incredible, inspired with art and easy vibes. Person next to us was working on a laptop, a family at the table across, and others on dates raving about the food. The food is a a perfect portion for two, and is delicious. I am still imaging eating the biscuits and pimento cheese 24+ hours later. The goat cheese crustini tastes how my garden smells in the summer. The salmon entree was fine, but the pilaf stole the show. Deliciously fresh. Service was excellent! Went here for dinner and I was wowed. Ambience was great and food was fantastic. It's fine dinning but not as expensive as other places of it's calibre. Went here on a Saturday night and it was surprisingly quiet. We tried the shrimp and grits in a creole sauce that had a nice kick to it and the crispy trout with root vegetables, cooked to perfection. Gray & Dudley is the restaurant inside of the 21c hotel and after hearing good things my friend and I decided to come here for dinner before a show at TPAC. Do not let it deter you to come to a hotel restaurant, because in Nashville hotel restaurants are all pretty great. We made a reservation which I would highly suggest for a weekend evening, and we were seated right away. The 21c hotel is also an art museum and I am a big fan of going to a 21c no matter what city I am in, so I figured it was time to come to the restaurant here in my city. The interior has modern, fun art that pops with bright colors. Their famous blue penguins may even join your table for dinner. My friend and I both started with cocktails which were refreshing. We asked our server for an appetizer recommendation and we were told the beer ragoons were the one to get. These were small dumplings with an ah-maz-ing sauce on it. I think this was a great recommendation so the server gets props on that. For our entrees my friend got the steak with white beans. I ordered the pork chops with Brussels sprouts. I did not try my friend's steak but she enjoyed it. The pork chops were cooked perfectly but the veggies may have stolen the show. To top off the meal, after we were done with our entrees our server brought out blue cotton candy. Although I thought it was a strange dessert I actually really liked it and it was just that tiny bit of sweetness that completed everything. We visited to get away from Pub Grub... this place fit the bill. We relaxed with couple of house old fashioneds and special Sangria from bar. They were perfectly made. Really good. We ordered the combo appetizer with Hummus and Ganoush. The Ganoush was literally a puree' which was different for me. It worked with the black garlic. Gray & Dudley turned out to be a wonderful find in downtown Nashville. We were looking for a good southern meal but our plan restaurant, Pucketts Grocery, was closed for a private event. Food: The food and flavors were wonderful. My wife and I had skillet cornbread, duck fried rice, charred caulilini, and shredded purple top turnip salad. The flavors were wonderful! The skillet cornbread may have been the best cornbread that I have ever eaten. Had a wonderful crust on the bottom to give it a little crunch but was moist in the middle and serve with honey butter. I had seen a picture of the duck fried rice on Yelp and new I had to try it. It served with the fried egg on top. The duck gives the rice a great flavor. Charred caulilini Is difficult for me to describe but let me tell you the flavor was great. The chili oil really made the sauce. For a pro tip, but a little of that chili sauce with your rice from the duck fried rice. The last item was the purple top turnips salad. This is a cold salad and tasted OK to me but my wife really enjoyed it. Service: we arrived without a reservation and had the option of waiting for a table or sitting in the bar. We chose a bar top table and work served quickly. Our server was very attentive to the table and pleasant. They do have vegan options & gluten free. *Note there is no parking & it's not pet friendly. Located downtown near Printers Alley. Ambience was cool with framed professional animal prints on the wall & penguin bar stools. A little dressier but not super dressy attire needed. Shrimp and grits were very tasty, albeit a small portion. By the time we got our main course we weren't really hungry for them anymore. Server tried his best to keep us informed of the troubles in the kitchen, he also didn't charge us for several things. I really appreciated that. We were excited to discover the 21c Museum hotel (here and in Louisville) which, not only has super-good restaurants like Gray & Dudley, but which serve as an open-24-hours modern art museum. (That's 3 levels of museum you can wander in and out of all day and night forever!) The front entrance of the restaurant itself is off the alley to the left of the hotel's main entrance, or enter the restaurant through the main lobby of the hotel. I realize I'm not at the food or actual restaurant experience part of the restaurant, but for art lovers, I also want to note that the restaurant itself doubles as an art gallery with rotating exhibits. (That is they periodically put up a new exhibit in the dining area...it does not rotate while you are eating.) Okay, the restaurant...are you ready? It's fine dining with super good service. I want to give it 5 stars just on the basis of the individual and honest attention we received from our server, Laura. I want her to be my server at all restaurants. She was like a food concierge. (Actually I want her to be successful at whatever she wants to do.) There are several vegetarian starters and small vegetable plates, salads, a soup and a couple of vegetarian main options. They also a nice cocktail menu. I started with the Low Fidelity cocktail which was beautiful and delicious. (Kudos for having another cocktail named after the Sons of Anarchy character Jax Teller!) Our table shared the hand cut fries, served with a malt vinegar aioli. There was nothing left of these when we were done. They were really good and it was not an exaggeration at all when Laura told us these were the best fries she'd ever had. Two of us had the Spring Pea Soup, served cold...this was super refreshing and tasty. Well done. I want this again. Please mail me some in Los Angeles. Please. Two of us also had the asparagus risotto. This was beautifully presented but a little bland...the cheese it was prepared with, which was described as pungent (aka really good if you're cheese lover) was not at all present in the initial flavor profile and we had to send it back...they may have over compensated a little after that feedback as the cheese was definitely very present on the second try...much more flavorful. The asparagus in the risotto was cooked perfectly. We would definitely come back, if we found ourselves in Nashville, and try other things as their menu seasonally rotates. Sometimes restaurants in hotels are a little high on concept and really just cater to the convenience of people staying at the hotel. Gray & Dudley holds its own separate from being part of the 21c hotel and is well worth a visit to when you want really good food, an excellent atmosphere, sweet and honest service and an entire museum experience, all wrapped up into one dining package. No extra charge to be seated with a giant penguin. read more

This was a real treat, especially since I came to town for just a few days. I really didn't know what to expect especially with a kid in tow. The food was fantastic, and the service was even better.
