First off, please replace the high top tables with the sticky finish that feels like maple syrup smeared on top. Gross! Sitting here waiting and waiting -- almost got up to leave - service SUCKS. Hoping the food will be better if it ever comes. Food was pretty good but not outstanding. Had to get up to get a to-go box. I would try this restaurant again, but first impression was "meh". Environment was a mixture of fork to farm combined with high school cafeteria. Lighting was also a mixture of cool fluorescents and warm Edison bulbs, which doesn't create the best vibe. Food was fine, but nothing special. So we did have a bit of a wait and service was a bit slow but I'm chalking that up to the fact that the place was super busy & they JUST opened so their still figuring it all out. Locally sourced maple syrup, honey, etc. I love that you can check in online - and get heads up on your place in line while you tour historic Dedham Square. I was super hopeful for a new sit down breakfast option. The location is great and it's a good alternative to 50's or the Toast Office....if the experience was better. Nothing was terrible, some things were fine, and the rest was nothing I'd come back for. The inside is fairly large but there are not a lot of tables. We had to wait 15 min even though there are were three high tops available...but no chairs. There is empty space on the dining room side for more tables. Once seated, service was quick and friendly enough. The coffee was hot and good for a diner spot. We ordered two dishes. The Greek omelet and the pastrami hash omelet. The Greek omelet came out like a pile of eggs with a bit of Greek stuff mixed in. There was maybe 2 or 3 spinach leaves, many whole black olives, and slices of mushy tomatoes. It was not wrapped like you would normally see an omelette. It didn't come with potatoes for some reason but the side of fruit was fresh enough. They served the wrong toast but corrected the mistake. The hash omelet was a huge pile of meat wrapped in a very thin layer of egg. The meat inside was well over fried and very, very dry. The potatoes in the hash were mush. I ended up picking through the omelet to get to the egg and avoid the meat in the end. The side potatoes were fried and crispy but tasteless. Overall, we were disappointed. We will probably give them another go at some point. Hopefully the food will improve. read more

So happy we stopped by today! They have a pretty extensive menu with both breakfast and lunch options. The location is super convenient in Dedham square - lots of street parking (free on Sunday and holidays) and a free lot in the square as well. I got the bacon Brie and avocado omelet and it was super yummy. The home fries were good and the toast was deliciously buttered. My friend got the apple cinnamon granola pancake short stack and that was also super tasty. Definitely very sweet but good if you are into that! Service was also great. First of all the name of the spot is amazing. I have been here once with three family members and each dish was simply delicious and the service was fast and friendly. My family and I stopped here for brunch on a Thursday at 3 p.m. and were happily surprised to find the place quite busy. I ordered the cannoli French toast, my boyfriend ordered the eggs bolly (type of egg Benedict), my father ordered the avocado pear and goat cheese omelette my mother ordered the Irish breakfast. I admit that I have a sweet tooth and this food may not be for everyone, but the cannoli French toast is unbelievable. I had bites of each of the dishes. As a breakfast enthusiast, I'd been wanting to try this place for a while. The four of us were not disappointed. Reports were that the French toast was fluffy and lovely, the bacon crisp, and coffee fresh. The thick cut oatmeal was kind of remarkable for not only the size but the fruit and nuts which tops the dish. The texture is more chewy than your typical porridge but I like both styles. Only complaint is the syrup should be on the side, as it would be too sweet for some. Greek omelette was enormous and leftovers were suitable for breakfast the next day. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was nice that the kitchen was somewhat open so I could thank the cooks on the way out. Prices are in line with many places these days. They state that the eggs are cage free and the bread is local. There are a few menu items that are in the upper teens, but for steak and eggs or lox you would expect just that. read more

Secondly, and more importantly, we had an AWESOME experience. Our server Tea (pronounced Tia) was very good. She was knowledgeable about the menu, attentive and has a wonderful way about her self. A real asset to place. Very varied menu that will satisfy ALL your breakfast cravings. We had Eggs, Home Fries and Corned Beef Hash that were "can't wait to come back good!!!" I'm only giving two stars because of Covid-19 and the fact that when we have eaten here before, it's been a good experience with good food. Today, however, we ventured out for the first time in months to finally sit outside on a nice morning and eat some breakfast at an actual restaurant. It wasn't too busy, so we were seated by the staff at a nice shady table right away. The server promptly took our drink orders and gave us menus. We ordered as soon as our drinks swiftly arrived. After about a half hour, we started realizing that the food was taking a long time, but we didn't say anything because, hey, they're short-staffed and there's a pandemic going on. Then after ten more minutes our server actually came over to us and said, unprompted, "Your food is almost ready." We felt better for about ten more minutes knowing it was just a matter of time... then two tables who were seated well after us got their food. What?! Then, as my wife put her mask on and went in to complain, there comes another server with some food... yay! Wait, no, for the table who ordered 30 minutes after us. So, the complaint was lodged. Turns out the server never put in our order. I'd like to say she apologized, but she left the explanation and apologies to the other staff, who were a little dumbfounded as to why she would have told us twenty minutes ago that the order that never existed was almost ready. So, we left after waiting a grand total of about an hour and half of our day off. But, hey, free drinks! read more

Food and pricing is of solid quality, 4-5 stars , but the service is lacking, which really drags this from a solid 4 stars to a 3. Spent a lunch here on a Friday , and while they were busy , the service was inattentive and slow by my server . For example : at first asked for a water.. nothing for several minutes . Server came back and asked what I wanted to drink ... Asked for lemon with a coke and a water , got the coke and water (finally) after several more minutes , but missing the lemon. While not rude or snippy , the service was just slow and inattentive for lunch . I've heard that Grateful is owned by the same people that own the Rox Diner is West Roxbury, my other favorite breakfast place. The food is fresh, interesting, and outstanding. My wife loved the Goat, a dish with Lox, avocado, poached egg, baby spinach and goat cheese. I loved my South Beach omelette, made from egg whites and veggies with a little fruit salad on the side. The service is fast and courteous and the vibe is neighborly. I love that this is a walk from home, whereas the Rox was always a drive away (but worth it). read more

Food was okay-- a lot of missteps. I ordered the Big Rig combo (2 eggs, toast, potatoes, bacon) with lemon ricotta blueberry pancakes. My two biggest complaints were regarding the toast and the pancakes. The toast was burnt. As in black. It was also hard as a rock, making me think it was toasted 10 minutes before it was delivered to me. Inedible. The pancakes, which I expected to fall in love with, were dry and crumbly except for the places where there were blueberries and dollops of ricotta. I was expecting ricotta in the batter rather than dolloped throughout. I would not order those pancakes again. My eggs, bacon, and potatoes were all good. My mom ordered french toast and my husband ordered the corned beef hash eggs Benedict and they both enjoyed theirs. The service wasn't great. Hardly saw our server. Today I am super disappointed in them. I've been here a handful of times and never had bad service. We sat outside today. Our waitress was awful. She took our order when we got here and never came back. I didn't get my orange juice so the kid who brought our food I asked to get the orange juice. He did not. We had to ask someone else to get her after waiting about 20 min. We had no syrup for our pancakes and she was nowhere to be found so I went looking for syrup at the other tables. The syrup I found at another table was watery and I still had no orange juice so I flagged down another waitress to ask her to get ours. When our waitress came outside she caught me looking around and said "oh you just needed syrup". It's been like 20 min of not eating our pancakes and that was just rude. I told her I also needed my orange juice and the syrup was really watery. She said it's healthy syrup and ihop is so bad for people and this one is $60 a bottle and blah blah and asked why we didn't like it. Like what the heck. I told her my niece doesn't like it and can't eat her pancakes. She didn't care and didn't even take it off the bill. She dropped the bill. She disappeared again. Sitting at the table another 20-25 mins for her to come back and take my payment. Had to flag down a busboy. She never asked if we wanted boxes so we had to ask him to take the payment and get boxes. She never came back. I'm mad I even left her a $5.00 tip. Her name is Iluminada Sirena. The most underrated diner in the area. Food is made from scratch, always fresh, great menu options and great value. Service is friendly and now with outdoor seating you don't usually have to wait. Be sure to specify size when ordering drinks. They don't ask. They will bring you the costliest size. Tomato juice tasted as though it's a little on the past expiration date side. Requested the budget friendly classic breakfast with bacon; the home fries are way over spiced... barely edible. Don't ask for single slice of french toast on the side, though. They charge you $7.00 !!!!! Can you believe it?!?!? $7 bucks for a single slice of bread with a little powdered sugar on it! Highway robbery. I thought it must be a mistake but two of the wait staff said that was what it was. ridiculous! I cannot justify spending my hard earned $$ at a place that charges like that. Food is great but service is subpar. Our friend ordered an eggs Benedict, another staff person bumped into the plate and the egg fell to the floor. The waitress apologized and assured us that she would get another poached egg to replace the one that fell off the plate. A little while later, our waitress came by again and said apologized for the wait and mentioned that the kitchen was "backed up" and that we may have to wait a while for the egg. After we wrapped up brunch (no mention of the egg or let alone getting it) the check came with the eggless Benedict being full price....One of us went up to mention it to the waitress, she mentioned she would talk to the manager. In the end $2.00 was taken off the price of $11.95. I feel like we shouldn't have had to push and remind staff that this happened. They were not that busy for a Saturday afternoon and it should have been noted beforehand. Coming back with a $2.00 discount on a meal that was centered on 2 poached eggs where one of them never showed up was a pretty piss poor response. Since we were a large group we didn't want to make a huge deal about it, but it shouldn't even have been that big of an issue because management should have noticed and addressed it immediately.
