The cancellation text at 10:30pm the night before my 10am move.

TLDR; AVOID GRASSROOTS MOVING LLC AT ALL COSTS. They canceled my move at 10:30pm the night before, for a move scheduled two months in advance, via an unacknowledged text. I was moving out of a 3rd floor walk-up with an 8-months-pregnant wife. The owner was rude, dismissive, and made no real effort to fix it. This was not just the worst moving experience I've ever had, it was one of the worst customer experiences period. Use Mile High Movers instead. They saved the day. --- Full Review: Dealing with GrassRoots Moving LLC was hands down the worst experience I've ever had with any company, not just moving companies. We scheduled a move nearly 2 months in advance. I was providing my own U-Haul, all we needed was labor to help load and unload. The move was from a third-floor walk-up in Denver to a new home in Colorado Springs, and my wife is 8 months pregnant, so I was trying to plan ahead and reduce stress. I woke up at 6:00am the morning of our move to a text sent at 10:30pm the night before, after I had gone to bed, (screenshot attached) informing me that they had to cancel. No phone call. No backup plan. No attempt to fix it. Just, "whoops, sorry". Their excuse made no sense, something about a truck breaking down (which I didn't need anyway), and that they needed their team to, I guess, stand by the truck for the mechanic. Why would the whole team need to babysit a broken truck instead of helping customers? And if you could still send people to help load, why couldn't they, or someone else, help me unload? And more importantly, why should any of that be my problem? You're a business owner, solve the problem, or at least make an effort to. I immediately called Geoff, the owner, several times after sending the texts in the screenshot. I had no time to waste. When he finally picked up, he was (incredibly) annoyed that I called him early in the morning, despite the fact that he texted me the cancellation at 10:30pm the night before. When I asked him to reach out to other movers in his network to help cover the unload, he asked, and I quote, "What network?" Excuse me? You run a moving company and don't have a single industry contact you can call for backup? He offered no solution, just left us stranded. Only after a frustrating phone call did he finally try to do anything. And even then, he tried to pretend like he was always planning to help, despite his text clearly saying I would need to find someone to unload. Fortunately, the company he ultimately connected me with after I had to teach him how to interact with customers -- Mile High Movers -- saved the day. They stepped in with two hours' notice, honored my previously quoted rate, and were total professionals. Use them instead. I've since spoken to other moving professionals in the area who've worked with Geoff before, and I've been told this kind of behavior isn't new. Apparently (according to what I was told), he has a pattern of dumping jobs on other movers. Bottom line: Do NOT trust this company. They are unreliable, unprofessional, and should not be in any customer facing business. UPDATE: Read Geoff's response to this review to understand his vibe. He just called me on the phone to cuss me out also. UPDATE 2: In a prior version of this post I speculated (and explicitly labeled it speculation) that the cancellation was in bad faith and possibly to take a higher-paying job. I see from their instagram that they did indeed have a truck break down that night, so I take that speculation back. It was incorrect. Regardless, the lack of proactive problem solving by Geoff in light of that issue was completely unacceptable and I stand by the rest of my review.

They showed up 5 hours late, yelled at me that I gave them a bad quote and refused to do my move which ended up costing me THOUSANDS. And spoiler, another company did the job in the time I was originally quoted by these people and for half the price. As a woman moving alone, these movers made me incredibly uncomfortable in the short time they were in my home. I called and got a quote over the phone. This was not unusual to me as I've only ever gotten phone quotes for moving and have never had issues in the past. I was quoted 2.5-3 hours with 3 movers. I called 5 other companies in the area and received similar quotes, I chose this company due to their availability. I scheduled my move for 4 days before I needed to be out of my place. They were scheduled to arrive between 12-3pm. At 3pm, I was told their morning job was taking much longer than anticipated but they should arrive within the hour. At 4pm I received a text from the team letting me know they were an HOUR AND A HALF away and would be stopping for food on their way. I contacted the "manager" and was assured they would be able to complete my move that day. The team showed up at 5:30pm, 5.5 hours late and I have never had movers be more disrespectful and demeaning toward me. My home was clean, fully boxed, and ready to be loaded. For $210/hour I was not about to waste time. They walked through my home to assess everything and Tyler, who is supposedly the best they have, was rude and disrespectful every step of the way. He yelled at me that there was no way they could do the move in the time quoted. Given that their morning job took 4-5 hours longer than anticipated, whoever is quoting jobs clearly doesn't know what they're doing. I was alone and the way their team treated me in my home made me incredibly uncomfortable, they yelled at me that I wasted their time, they drove to Fort Collins from Denver and their cars were in a storage unit in Denver that closed at 9pm. Even if they completed the job in the minimum quoted time, they still wouldn't have made it back to Denver in time to collect their vehicles so I don't see how that was my problem but he sure made it my problem. Tyler told me the move would take a team of 4 movers at least 7 hours to complete. To be clear, this was a two bedroom townhome, not a 5 bedroom house. As I was about to throw them out of my home for being so demeaning and disrespectful, they offered to step out and call their manager. At 6pm I received a call from the manager who told me the team claimed there were 150 boxes in my home and they would not be doing the move. When I argued that was absolutely not the case (i counted and there were 56 boxes, 6 large, 15 medium, 25 small, and 10 plastic tubs) I was told he didn't know who to believe...um excuse me?!? He offered to reschedule for another day at more than DOUBLE my initial quote. After the experience his "best guy" had to offer, there was no way I would ever agree to pay them even my original quote let alone $1800?! I told him this was unacceptable and explained the financial impact, all I got was "sorry, we wish you the best of luck with your move" after wasting 6 hours of my time and costing me thousands. This was a huge waste of my time and costly. I deliberately scheduled the move on my day off with several days after to do final small things and clean before handing over keys. A new tenant was scheduled to move in shortly after. Because of this company's laziness and incompetence, I had to pay an additional month rent and the next tenant's move was also impacted. I am truly beside myself at what a horrible experience this was. Now for the kicker - I hired another company to do my move the following week. I hired two movers and anticipated an 8 hour move due to what I was told by this team. I was genuinely afraid to do the walkthrough given what happened with moving brothers. I explained what happened and the new quote I was given and the new movers laughed. They said this team took too long at their job in the morning, ate and sat in the truck for an hour, and when they showed up they were tired or lazy and simply didn't want to do the job. They said the 7 hour quote was an FU to me since they drove up to Fort Collins. It took the new movers FOUR HOURS TOTAL. And cost me less than moving brothers original quote including a 40% tip. NEVER give this company your business. They will leave you up a creek without a paddle without so much as an apology. I'm grateful they requested cash payment and didn't require a deposit as they will never get a penny from me. I will tell anyone and everyone I know to avoid this company!
