Talk about a good burger. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. I'm glad we popped in! The location was clean and very inviting. It was a little hard to navigate around because the tables were a little clustered together. But that was definitely needed because the place was packed. Very minor situation, nothing to harp on. It was well lit and very rustic looking. It reminded me a lot of a farmhouse. I very much enjoyed the decor and atmosphere of the location. When you are up to the counter the employees are very helpful. I explained that it was my first time visiting and they gave me a rundown of what I could expect. I quickly made my choice of just a simple cheeseburger with one patty and fries as a side. I went with the combo meal so I also got a drink. My companion got the same thing except with two patties. We got our cups and went to go find the soda machine to fill. it was easily located and they have all natural soda. no high for toast corn syrup or anything like that. I try to couple different flavors and they were all delicious. I couldn't even tell if they were "natural". They didn't have that weird diet aftertaste that some diet sodas have. Although I guess these weren't diet sodas they were just made with real sugar. Excellent!!!! We sat with our other companions at a table in the corner next to the little kiddy area which was very cool. I didn't have my kids with me that day but if I had they would've loved it. Obviously the place is kid friendly so definitely pack up the family and head on down. Food was brought to us very promptly and was a good portion. The fries are fried and sunflower oil and they were delicious and very well salted. I'm on that low-carb deal so I got my burger wrapped in a lettuce wrap and it was delicious. I was very pleased they offered that option directly on the menu so I didn't even have to ask. The burger was very well cooked and very flavorful. The green chili was kinda lackluster though. Not at all spicy and a little too juicy. Although if I'd had a bun and not a lettuce wrap that situation might not have been as noticeable as it was. My only quip is that the place is expensive. While I understand the price due to the quality of the beef and everything like that, $30 for two burger meals was a little steep for me. Not that it's not worth it. It's more of a budget situation. Can't eat like a queen everyday . I definitely won't be a place I frequent regularly, but I definitely won't mind stopping in once in a blue moon. Let's start with the good! Milkshake- I had the chocolate and it was creamy and not overly sweet actually very good. The problem was the price vs size. Meat- grass fed!! The BAD which is a lot. Service- awful the kid at the register is uninformative, inputs orders wrong, & not polite. My food was brought out and wrong. I mentioned my food was wrong and was told that's what your order ticket says. I wasn't giving a receipt so couldn't prove what I ordered. Oh well I'll eat it anyway. Food- it's grass fed meat and it should taste great. "I only eat grass fed non medicated meat at home." The burger was not cooked well. Mostly just this mush of meat with no crust to it. This means it wasn't placed on a hot enough grill. The burgers are wrapped in parchment In/out esk. Well this created the bun to absorb all the juices from the overly wet meat. Making the bun a pile of mush. Burgers are supposed to have their special mayo mine had none. Next the fries also nothing to brag about. Once again mush not crispy or remotely fresh. Seemed like they had just been sitting in fryer oil to become soggy. Mind you the line was to the door when we entered everything should've been extra fresh. Price- extremely overpriced for the quantity, quality, and service. $38 for 2 burgers 2 fries 1soda 1 shake. Ruth Chris lunch menu burgers are far better and slightly cheaper. All in all there are far better burgers in town grass fed or not. This place is new and certainly isn't lasting long. Save your pesos and go on to the next burger joint. After much contemplation on how many stars to give this place... I finally settled on my final decision of the place. Grassburger is conveniently located in a strip along w/ Menchies, Sprouts, etc. The interior of the place is nicely laid out -- w/ a variety of seating options from indoor to outdoor.. along w/ your pick of stools, booths, or chairs. Their menu had a variety of options for meat lovers to vegans. Aside from this place being just a "burger" place, they have other menu items like salads & etc. They also have a kid friendly menu which probably involve grilled cheese & such. My friends & I came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I got the black bean burger (gluten free & vegan friendly!) w/ a side of mix fries (regular & sweet potato fries together) & a sweet iced tea. My burger literally fell apart on me when I took the 1st bite, so half of my black bean patty went back to where it started. I finished the fries like there was no tomorrow though. Their variety of drinks are from like local places so it's not from the generic Pepsi companies & such. I am kind of torn... Two stars seem harsh, but really as Yelp states, "Meh. I've experienced better." Yes I really have. I was super pumped to try this place out. We paid a little less than $50 for 3 people (three burgers, 2 sides of fries, a side salad and 3 drinks). I think the entry point wasn't a big hit, and it didn't help the situation. The restaurant smelled a little weird (like a faint smell of sewage) and it was in need of a major cleaning. The floor by the soda machine was super sticky and there were various bits of trash and fries on the floor throughout the restaurant. Needless to say it wasn't busy, so this situation was honestly completely unacceptable. With all the people on staff someone could and should have been cleaning. Trying to look past the smell and the dirtiness, we sat outside. The patio area was decent. After awhile, we got our food. The burgers were super super crazy small. I was a bit disappointed on the size. I understand... They are good bits of meat, but wow I was left feeling hungry. The taste was really yummy, but yet so short for a burger so small. The fries were okay. The original were rather basic. However, the sweet potato fries were my personal favorites!!! Now with a few good things in mind, I must disappoint you again... The side salad, was horrible. Upon receiving it the leaves were entirely wilted. The lettuce was pretty much like some that had sat between a hot burger and a bun and were pulled out and put in the plate. I am honestly really shocked that someone would serve that to you and consider it okay. With this companies stand on serving good quality fresh products this was so far from it! We got a refund on the salad and even one of the staff members noted that it appeared that it had sat out for a couple of days. Ewh. That is totally not acceptable by any means. I hate to say, but we went way out of our way to come to eat here. My hopes were so high, and yet we had an entirely disappointing experience. Well how about grass fed beef, ketchup that is free of high fructose corn syrup, all fountain sodas made with pure cane sugar, and great gluten-free options. Major kudos on all that. Great tasting burger with the gluten-free options of either a gluten-free bun ($1.50) or lettuce wrap (free). Sweet potato fries are lightly battered but that batter is gluten-free as well. I had the mixed sweet potato and regular fries because all too often I'm very disappointed with the sweet potato fries, but these rocked and I will only order sweet potato fries from now on. Great owners who are trying aggressively to get things right even having signs on every table asking you to write into yelp with your feedback to let them know how they're doing. I admire that and think it will take them far. I did have one minor gripe that I would typically message them privately but they have not claimed this page yet so per their request I will state it here: with the fries they offer you the option of paying $.50 for a side of chipotle mayo or ranch dressing. It came in a small 2 ounce paper condiment receptacle but it was only about a quarter full, no more than a tablespoon. Personally I found this lacking especially with the $.50 up-charge. I was introduced to Grassburger through Howie's CMYE. I am so impressed by this restaurant. The burgers were great! I was able to bring my mom and a friend, and my mom commented that the burgers are better than 5 Guys or Smashburger (I haven't been to either). The ingredients are fresh and local, and the taste is amazing. I had a side salad which had local greens from a farmer near ABQ, and the lemon vinaigrette dressing was tasty. As the name of the restaurant implies, the meat comes from grass-fed cows. During the event, I was able to meet the owner and talk with him about his vision for the restaurant, and he seems like a cool, down-to-earth guy who LOVES what he's doing and is very happy to be bringing good food at a reasonable price to people. Why oh why did we take so long to make it over to Grassburger on our never ending quest to find the best burger in Albuquerque? I'm not sure if we found it here, but it's pretty darn close. When we walked up to the counter we were greeted with a friendly smile by the person who took our order. The menu is simple with a few variations of burgers with your choice of a quarter or half pound patty. We all ordered the smaller burger, some with bacon, one with mushrooms and regular and sweet potato fries. The burgers were to die for. Everyone agreed that this was possibly the best burger in town, except for maybe Monte Carlo Steak House--maybe. These are some fantastic burgers! You can taste the quality of the beef. There's no faking that. The fries were good. I wouldn't say best in the city (and the regular fries were way over seasoned) but a good accompaniment. If we could have a collaboration of Five Guys fries and Grassburger's burgers we wouldn't need to go anywhere else! All in all I can't wait to go back and even better, I see that they are going to open a new location on the west side right next door to my favorite tap room!! I don't take pleasure writing this, Grassburger has been a favorite of mine since moving to ABQ. Being someone with celiac, eating out is not an easy task, finding GF burgers at Grassburger was like hitting the jackpot. This year it seems as though the product started to decline, hours of operation were not reliable, products were spotty, now tonight I got home with my order and the burger was basically DESTROYED, the meat was so smashed during the cooking process it was so dry, so over cooked it was like eating leather, clearly they have hired people who are not confident with cooking, smashing the burger is the short cut to cooking, it drains the beef of all its juices and makes it dry and flavorless. Never heard of this place so was not sure what to expect. Clearly the goal was to provide food and service that is a step above fast food and in that they succeeded. However, if you are looking for gourmet burgers this is not the place. Grassburger cooks their beef medium well which is the safe thing to do. I only cook medium rare when I control the source of the meat and do my own grinding. However, cooked properly medium well does not have be dry and tasteless and kudos to Grassburger for doing so. I ordered the 1/2 pound Cheda burger which was served on a potato bun with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a tangy chipotle sauce. Very nice presentation and quite tasty but not what I was looking for. I also ordered the half and half (regular/sweet potato) shoe string fries. Again tasty but a little greasy for my taste and somewhat limp. My wife ordered the Farmhouse Bowl; turkey burger over arugula and quinoa/rice combo. The burger tasted like sausage, probably due to the seasoning. Tasty but definitely a surprise. We felt the prices were a bit high; $10 for cheese burger (and yes I saw the discussion about natural grass fed beef)? Owner reached out to me on Yelp and asked I try it again. I did and was not disappointed. First thing, the staff was awesome today. Johana was at the register was really helpful and super friendly. The restaurant was very clean and inviting. The food: again, the fries are fine. The sweet potato fries get better every time I go. I can honestly say I would continue eating here for the sweet potato fries alone. They are the best sweet potato fries I've ever had. The burger is really high quality. Great flavor in the meat because of the grass fed high quality ingredient. It really lives up to its name. I tried the BBQ sauce this time and was blown away. I had a green chile bacon cheeseburger and added the BBQ sauce and it was money. As for the bun, totally on point. I think this place is still on the pricey side for a burger place but the quality of the ingredients and the flavors make it worth it. The quality of the beef is phenomenal and I appreciate their mission to provide their cattle with a happy, humane life. The green chile was fresh and had the perfect heat. I was not born in New Mexico, but I LOVE my green chile Their chipotle mayo has a really balanced flavor and is great on the burger! The sweet potato fries were crispy and great with any of their dipping sauces! I wasn't particularly wowed by the salad, it's kind of lacking in flavors for me - luckily the green chile ranch makes anything taste good though! Lastly my husband and I were blown away by the organic sodas, there are many flavor choices and they're just so delicious! *For folks that are gluten free - my husband said their gluten free bun is great and worth the $1.50 up-charge.* The only reason Grassburger doesn't get 5 stars from me is that the service is hit or miss.
