Pasta at 3PM? Sure. While visiting Portland's Nob Hill area, we decided to try the restaurant after seeing its sister store at the airport terminal. Inside, it was quite spacious with modern decor, open kitchen, and seating for 80+ guests. After browsing through the overhead menu, we placed our orders at the entrance counter and proceeded to an available table. We ordered the following dishes (arrived in 20 minutes): Rigatoni: The tomato based sauce was light but savory. The shredded pork pieces were well seasoned, soft and tender. The rigatoni noodles were perfectly cooked, and the sprinkled cheese added a nice texture and flavor to the dish. Squid Ink Spaghetti: The noodles were exquisitely dark and quite al dente. The sauce was savory, spicy, and a tad tangy. The chili in the nduja butter had quite a kick and really elevated the flavor of this dish a couple of notches. The small claims were plump and delicious. The portions were sensible and prices reasonable. Overall, it was a nice dining experience.

I've seen quite a few people mention wait times here... I find that interesting. So you don't want fresh food then? You'd rather have that food come out quickly, and be warmed up? Just think about it. "Made to order", means it's prepared after the order is placed. Do these people that complain think that's easy to achieve? In a restaurant that has customers in the dining room, and to go orders? I found this cute little place online. After asking several people at my hotel, I decided to have dinner there. I was pleasantly impressed! Pasta is my favorite, and I really enjoyed the Vodka sauce!!! Extremely tasty! The meatballs were almost as good as the ones I make. Delish! The garlic bread was just the way I like it. Nice and garlicky. Soft on the inside, and not too crispy on the outside. I can't wait to come back, so I can try other things. I was kind of bummed out that they did not have any shrimp dishes. Especially after seeing all the pics on Yelp. It's nice to have at least one seafood pasta dish. Hopefully they will have one when I am in town again. ^ The watermelon cocktail was really yummy... Grazie

I found this place through social media and was surprised when I walked in and found that it was dining where you order at the counter. Came here for a late lunch and tried the black truffle pappardelle and a caesar salad. The salad was nice and crisp with delicious croutons and the pasta was very filling. A little on the salty side but as a fan of truffle I was in heaven. I was a little disappointed in their options for meat. Every single meat dish includes pork, so I had to opt for a vegetarian pasta. The overall vibe of the place is very laid back and perfect for a lunch.

I didn't expect to be yanked out of my pasta comfort zone -- but wow, was I glad I was. My kids picked Grassa, hoping for a classic Italian night. I came craving lasagna or fettuccine Alfredo. Spoiler alert: Grassa doesn't do the usual suspects. No problem. I pivoted and ordered the Pork Belly Mac & Cheese. Let me tell you -- that dish was next-level. The pork belly was rich and savory, the pasta creamy and indulgent. I kept going back and forth trying to decide which part I loved more. Honestly? It was perfect. Marlene went with the Fusilli Alla Vodka. The portion was huge -- she tapped out halfway through, so I "helped." One bite turned into five, and yeah... I finished it. Smooth, spicy, and ridiculously good. The space itself is open and lively, filled with families laughing and soaking up the evening. Big windows frame the neighborhood vibe, and every staff member greeted us with warmth and a smile. Grassa didn't just serve dinner -- it served a reminder that stepping outside your go-to order can lead to something unforgettable.

Grassa is a PNW chain eatery serving up some delicious Italian food. This location is in Northwest Portland where there is street parking all around the area. Inside, they have a modern and spacious setup with a good amount of seating. For their menu, they have a nice selection of different side and pasta dishes to choose from. Wifey opted for the Black Truffle Pappardelle, I got the Pork Belly Mac & Cheese, and we got a side of the Grassa Meatballs. Everything that we had tasted fresh and delicious. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience here. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. This is a great spot to grab a bite with a date, friends, or family.

Five stars for the pork belly mac (btw when I saw Grassa at the airport I knew I had to order it again to go! I didn't eat it until I got home, and it was just as delicious)! I love the big pasta that they use for this dish, so much so I looked up what Grassa uses in this dish! Turns out it's ribbed lumache ("snails" style). Both times I ordered it, it was cooked perfectly al dente and the pork belly is chunky, and slightly sweet. I am a sucker for a sweet and savory combo, so this was the perfect dish for me. The watermelon salad was a memorable highlight too, refreshing and perfect for summer. I believe the salad is seasonal, but I also appreciate seasonal dishes as a way to mix things up for regulars. I also got a cocktail, the Pictures of Lily (gin, creme of violette, triple sec, lemon) but they ran out of lemon so I asked if lime would taste good in it. The server was so nice to say if I didn't like it he could change it for me. But it tasted pretty good, so I didn't ask for a new drink but appreciated the option. I thought the cocktail menu was unique, everything on the cocktail menu looked good! We ordered a few other dishes but they are already fading from my memory...but most importantly, I would highly recommend the pork belly mac and watermelon salad!

Absolutely the star of our trip up to Portland. Staff was friendly and helpful in making our decisions. The restaurant is very clean and having the kitchen visible from the dining area (including being able to see the pasta being made) made our experience very enjoyable. The food was an absolute knockout. The pasta was all cooked perfectly and I am very happy that they weren't afraid to use a heavy hand with the peppers on the radiatori. It's also a nice throwback to get an Italian soda, the orange cream was a great addition to the meal. Hope I get to make a trip back up this way soon so I can come back.

Pasta and salads as well as drinks never disappoint but 45' wait for the meals.... You decide if it is worth it. At least you can walk 10' and get some salt n straw as an appetizer,

Grassa is my go-to casual pasta dining place in Portland. Every time I eat at Grassa, it is always amazing. Grassa does have many locations, but I always go to their Nob Hill location. Such friendly staff. They always made sure we had enough plates and napkins since we were doing family style. For sharables/apps, we ordered the garlic bread and brussels sprouts. For our pasta we ordered Carbonara, Fusilli Alla Vodka, and Rigatoni. The brussels sprouts are a must. They are delicious every time I order them. For pasta, my favorite was the Fusilli Alla Vodka and the Rigatoni. Both pastas were cooked to perfection and the ratio of pasta sauce to pasta and meat was spot on. The portions for both the pasta and the appetizers are generous and make tasty leftovers. Their menu is clear and they do not have an abundance of options which I enjoy. The Nob Hill location specifically has lots of community seating great for large parties.

I've been to Grassa on 23rd several times and it's always been an amazing experience! The pasta is of high quality and so is the service. I recently tried the chopped salad and it might be my new fav, it was super fresh and tasty.

Deliciously fresh pasta. Not too many choices, great vs cocktails. Overall a nice welcoming experience. We sat outside, it was a nice evening. Definitely stop by if you want some fresh pasta!

I loved the fusilli alla vodka! the sauce was bright, tart, and paired well with the italian sausage. there was a generous amount of sausage which I appreciated as I didn't feel the need to ration it. the pasta was cooked beautifully al dente. I love when my pasta has a good chew and bite to it. there was already red pepper flakes in the sauce but I prefer mine super spicy so I ended up adding a lot more. simple dish but perfectly executed :)

We stopped here because it was open late, and close to where we'd been, at a concert on a Friday night. Grassa is kind of a different type of place than I'm used to. When you walk in the door, you go right to the counter and order - like you would at a fast food place. They give you a number to set on your table and your food is brought out to you. You're asked for a tip when you order, which in my opinion goes completely against the idea of tipping. Tips are rewards for good food and service, and when you're asked to tip when you order, there's no way to adjust the amount up or down based on your service. There were five of us eating together, and we used the same number, even though we paid as two groups. The first three of us got our food in a very reasonable time. The last two were forgotten about. We had to go back to the counter and ask where the rest of the order was. The server looked at us like he was confused, and went back to the ticket to see what was on it. He found the missing order, and fifteen minutes later we had the rest of the food. Everything was tasty, but spicier than expected. While I enjoyed the food, I thought the quantity of meat was a bit on the skimpy side. The restaurant itself, once past the ordering counter, was nice. Tables are spread out nicely, and it's not too noisy. I would eat here again if I'm in the area.

The folks who work at and operate this establishment, and the Love Shack next door, are simply masterminds. I feel like I'm entering a love fest, greeted by the friendliest of people and served with excellence by several staff members. A big shout out to Tyler who made us feel like family and served us from start to finish with efficiency, kindness, and exceptional care. From the moment you enter G-Love, you feel like you chose the right spot to celebrate life, a moment, or to spend time with family and friends. The drink menu: why is everything so enticing? I can hold my liquor, but not well enough to try all the things that tempted me. Luckily we love sharing and getting tastes of one another's libations. Here goes: We started with The Cecilia, The Princess Peach, and a Matchstick Martini, as well as a Diet Coke for the responsible one at the table. Even the taste of the Diet Coke is elevated, or was that just me? Maybe it was the eco-friendly straw... For food, please don't judge. I live in LA and when I come here, I feel like I may not get another opportunity to come back so I need to try it all. Is that gluttony or wonderful gastronomique decision making? 1. The Crusty Avocado - crusted with coco-blackspice seeds, drizzled with Yuzu and lemon, filled with delightful Ahi Tuna, and a bit of caviar. 2. Fingerling Potatoes - Don't pass these little gems up, as well as the delightful sauces they are served with. A must. 3. Focaccia di Formaggio - couldn't just order one for the table, we needed 2, and it still felt like we could have devoured more. Just kidding, carry on. 4. Broccoli Caeser - traditional with some parmesan and breadcrumbs, but the miso caesar dressing and lemon make it unique and delicious. 5. Garden Peas - I LOVE THIS, did I have to share... YES. served with a citrus yogurt, a macadamia nut pesto, and schmaltz. Get the PEAS says me never, but I do now. 6. Crunchmaster Crisp - maybe my favorite, still up for debate. Charred cabbage, crispy shallots and garlic (already a fan), hazelnuts, apples and Kel's onions. Do not miss this. 7. Hamachi Crudo - This is one of my absolutes, hands down, delicious dishes that shouldn't be overlooked. Divine pieces of sliced hamachi crudo, with a coconut cream and some other delicious things that I can't remember. I blame it on Cecilia. 8. Carrots and Citrus - Not only was this beautiful, it was another one of the dishes that I wished didn't end. Brown butter, pistachio, chili crunch, Tom Kha Vinaigrette. Garrett, where are you so that I can hug you for this dish? 9. Asparagus a la Plancha - fiddleheads, miso-lemon hollandaise, egg yolk, and crispy potato. And you thought this was ironed asparagus. Guess again. Delicious. 10. McFarland Springs Trout - perfectly cooked trout, with smoked buttermilk, cilantro puree, garnished with arugula radish salad. 11. Spring Tagliatelle - served with a broccoli dill pesto, garlic confit, pancetta, and fried anchovy breadcrumbs. You had me at anchovy. 12. Fried Chicken - finger lickin good, truly. No need for the Colonel to get worried, as this fried chicken is in another category. Superb. 13. Pork belly skewers & Scallop Skewers - tasty small bites of perfection. Don't pass these up. How many of us are dining you ask? Five. Shhhhhhh,. Dessert? Really, YES. Since there were 5 of us, we got all three. Of course we did. 1. Milk Chocolate: butterscotch, baby popcorn and honeycomb. 2. Whip-a-licious: Passion fruit curd, lime meringue, coconut crack. 3. Golden Cloud: Golden milk sorbet, cardamom, masala, honey caviar, and chamomile. My family says: 5***** to all, I simply couldn't. Thank you G-Love and staff for making my last night in Portland with our family so memorable. From the welcoming to the departure, this is etched in my heart and mind as an all time favorite experience. Tyler, you are amazing. Thank you for your service and kindness. Garrett, you have a great thing going on. Congratulations for choosing wonderful staff to serve your exceptional food and drinks. In a world where you can go anywhere, folks should go here (and The Love Shack). I can't express my appreciation enough for this amazing and memorable experience.

No awkward eye contact trying to flag someone down, no waiting to pay while mentally calculating how close you are to just leaving cash and hoping for the best. That said, if you're not in the mood to embrace your phone as your server, the traditional route is still there. You can walk up to the bar or catch one of the servers floating around. It's a smart setup that solves the "we're busy and maybe a little understaffed" problem without making it your problem. Food-wise, I went with the meatball sub (on special). Handmade pork and beef meatballs, clearly done by someone who knows what they're doing, and the kind of sandwich that requires both commitment and a few extra napkins. No regrets. I paired it with the Breakside Pilsner, which landed comfortably on the higher end of "good"Not life-changing, but absolutely something you'd order again without hesitation, especially if you're settling in for a while. Overall, it's a place that feels like it understands how people actually want to eat and drink right now. Efficient without being cold, flexible without being chaotic, and just cool enough to make you feel like you picked the right spot.

I'm thrilled that he invited me along for a recent visit. The brick walls, big windows, attentive service, and comfort food experience all combine to make Emerald Line the kind of place every neighborhood should be lucky enough to have. Most of the folks at our table had some variety of pasta, though the outlier who tried the North African Plate with lamb meatballs couldn't be faulted for their choice. Cocktails were delightful, and we had no problem finding a bottle of wine that made everyone happy. A bonus was the existence of a parking lot, as well as free on-street parking in this neighborhood. I'm looking forward to a return visit.

The place is decorated eclectically, with a mix of seating styles--from couches and bar seating to smaller and larger tables. The vibe feels like a blend of old-school charm and something more modern. I started with a cocktail from the menu, while my husband ordered a drink based on the server's recommendation. Unfortunately, the drink didn't taste good, and the staff did replace it for him. Since we had already spent quite some time waiting, we decided to skip appetizers and go straight to the mains. I ordered the prawn Alfredo along with a fennel citrus salad, and my husband had the Pasta El Burrina. The food tasted fantastic. The service was a bit spotty, which I'm willing to attribute to it being an unusually busy night. A few times it felt like our orders were forgotten, and we had to remind them multiple times for the bill. The place is alright, but I am not in a rush to come back anytime soon.

Would definitely rate this a strong 3.5/5 if that was possible!…read more The jojos were the star of the show for me (go figure) personally -- and the ranch was the star of the jojo show. I had a Spicy Vegetarian Burger and it was pretty good, next time I would probably try the Classic version. The pickles and sauce were good and the impossible patty was great. My sister thought her classic burger was solid, but she would have liked a little more sauce. Keep in mind that she likes a lottt of sauce. The bun was a little too big for her burger patty too, but overall it was tasty and all the flavors complemented each other. Ambiance-wise there was nice decor and plenty of seating options! The blinds kept out a lot of natural light but we were able to lift them a bit so it wasn't a problem! You clear your own plates and order when you arrive after you have looked over the menu so service doesn't feel super applicable but everyone was friendly and welcoming.

While they weren't as crispy as I would've wanted - I would say while some parts were, most of it was on the softer side - I did think that they were seasoned excellently. They also paired quite well with the mayo-based sauces we received. Moving onto the burger, I really enjoyed this. When I've had tofu on a burger in the past - it's usually been in smaller pieces - so getting such a massive piece that sticks out on either end of the burger was really nice. In addition, the breading was good - while not super-present. I quite liked the fact that it was very lightly breaded - meaning the huge patty was like 95% tofu - leaving the tofu to stand on its own as the majority of the bite. The buns were alright - I'm not big into vegan buns - but I didn't mind these The mustard sauce was also pretty good I will say, although I did order the Mr. Onion burger so I should've known what I was getting myself into, but there were just way too many onions on this burger. It was to the point where they absolutely dominated the taste of my first bite. I had to remove a lot of them from the bottom of the burger to actually make this edible. For the price, it is a bit expensive - but it's also quite filling so I didn't mind it. I also have to mention - because my burger was late, as a gift they brought out a full set of pastries/cookies in a box. This was incredibly surprising and something I've never seen another restaurant do. Major props for that
