Imagine my surprise when I got a text yesterday, casually informing me that my sprinkler system would be shut off in less than 24 hours. No heads-up, no appointment I agreed to--nada. Apparently, my sprinklers were on their own VIP schedule, and I was just along for the ride. When I kindly requested a later date, they hit me with a $50 reschedule fee. Fifty bucks! For their scheduling plot twist? I don't think so. I called the office, and to their credit, they were willing to work with me. But my card on file had expired, and they had the audacity to ask for an updated one. Excuse me, but I'll hand over my payment details when the appointment fits my calendar, not when their system decides it's showtime. The nerve of these folks! And here's the kicker: they couldn't squeeze me in later in October because, apparently, their VIP membership club gets the red-carpet treatment. Plenty other irrigation companies to work with in the area. Thank goodness my card expired--it's like my wallet knew this operation was giving off some seriously shady vibes. Called Grapids moments ago. They want $79 + $8/zone to winterize sprinklers. So for 8 zones they want $143.00. How can small businesses be so predatory even if they have a PhD in barbequed and compressed hot air! The owner must be working part time in the Insurance industry. Holy stinky crap!! My family has been with Grapids Irrigation aka Katerberg for 60 years. Over the past few years, the service and support has declined to the point of gross negligence. I recently bought the home I grew up in and my father had already signed/paid for an annual irrigation contract with Grapids, so I went with it. BIG MISTSAKE! They no showed 2 scheduled sprinkler system start-up appointments and did not give us the courtesy of a late or unable to make the appointment call. The 2nd was scheduled 3 weeks later and then they wanted to re-schedule in another 2-3 weeks out...to simply start up the home sprinkler system! I cancelled the contract for failure to deliver and failure to use common sense customer service contact and support. They acknowledged they have service and support issues citing finding good labor is the problem and stated they would refund the pre-paid in February service fees. Three months and 4 calls later...nothing because they dump you into an AI swirl program and do not call back; my parents have not received the contract refund money for the contract they failed to deliver! Next stop is an investigative reporter interview to increase West MI public awareness! What the company was...is seemingly no more as evidenced by a 2-star rating. Caveat emptor! They've been opening and closing my sprinkler system in EGR for last 3yrs. This year they told me nothing was working and that it would cost 5000$ to fix everything. I got a 2nd opinion - cost me 375$ -3 valves were leaking so that not enough juice to the other stations. Beware! read more

My system is only two years old (going into summer #3 this year). I have had issues from the start. Whoever designed what type of heads and where they got placed didn't know what they were doing. My yard is not small and they put in a TON of cheap small heads, which I still have yet to see a yard set up like mine. They finally agreed it wasn't done properly so a tech put in just two larger heads to try and help. Already had to have one replaced this year and it was done in July of last. Let's just say I've had multiple techs (who are great) out each season to fix problems. I still have dead spots in my yard. I'm going on week 3 of an operation manager to call me back - this also happened last summer. I've called, spoken to someone, left messages, but still nothing which is why I'm writing this to help others. Would not recommend. read more

Called GR Irrigation to solve problem with zones not working. GR Irrigation sent a technician, Todd Haveman, out the very next day, who discovered that a module in my controller needed replacing which he did and sprinkling system is now working just fine. The Hunter controller is about 14 years old. I have and will continue to use GR Irrigation for my sprinkler system needs. They ate great to work with and responsive. read more

Absolutely horrible job. They sent a guy anyway that they said was his first day and I told them no way do I want him. Sure enough this guy shows up named Jauquin and he argues that he's not new for 15 minutes. Finally because I was so desperate having a completely yellow lawn on 6-17-23; I agreed to have him fix the system and do whatever it takes at the exuberant price of $606.00. Mind you ; this was for a house I'm selling 4 doors down and I couldnt leave my sickly challenged family member to go check on him. I knew I was in trouble when I get a phone call from him asking me whare the water shut off is ; when in fact there is no need for a water shutoff since the system works off the lake water; which he certainly should have known. I had to explain to him why there was no need for a shutt off! Unbelievable . Then he tells me I need a new pump because I'm getting no water pressure. The whole reason why I called in the first place was because the one zone wasnt shutting off and the next goes on ; explaining it in detail over the phone to the scheduler to tell the technician. I again told the technician Jaquin that I cant believe he doesnt understand that when more than 1 zone is on there would be less water pressure. It was very obvious he had no idea at all what he was doing. To top it off I had to give him access to my empty home since I couldnt be there and found a huge black gash on my stairwell going down that wasnt there before he came. looks like whatever he was carrying he was careless with and now I need to have that repainted! As a last bit of mistaken info; he told me I needed to put a mesh cover on my "wellpoint" suction pipe when in fact after having called Ewing sprinkler supplies; they told me that would not be advisable and would hinder the working ability of the pipe. When He came back to my house ; he lied and told me he ran the whole system and it was working fine. I took him for his word and even gave him a radio thinking he was being honest. Next morning I went there and found the system completely down and no water was even coming out and spraying. I took photos and sent it to the company; then called the company furious. Not only did these people continue to lie and say he was one of their most senior technicians and the very best; and they would use him for their own house; but this woman named Shawn actually said to go and hire someone else and that she doesnt feel comfortable having him come back when Ive accused him of damaging the wall . I told her thats exactly what Im going to do and I dont feel comfortable having such an inexperienced worker . Its one thing if he's being taught with another technician there but he was sent all by himself and HAS ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE WHATS GOING ON! This spring season seems to have all consumers at the mercy of lawn companies and to get the most money they send anyone out alone with no experience just to charge a brains surgeons salary! I thought it was not only understood when they suggested I go elswhere; and when I said I'm not paying you a penny and now I have to wait even longer to get it fixed; but apparently they are continuing their attempts to get paid for nothing and have decided to charge my Visa irregardless. Dont ever use this company . The 12 year old neighbor kid knows more about the sprinkler than the guy they sent! West michigan sprinkling came 5 days later and did a great job and knew immediately what was wrong. their guy had 30 years on the job as a technician and had his helper work with him to fix the entire system. They had it up and running in no time. Turns out Jaquin didnt even know that the pipes were lose and air was getting in them ; so it had no pressure! They had it up and running in no time plus they replaced the broken valve box the other broke and left! Its one thing to not dupe a client and then to be caught in their own lies; but then to go and charge for it when you not only tell me to go elsewhere ; but then you slip in a $606 charge on my visa as if I wouldnt see? read more

I would not recommend this company if you value your time, money or yard. They charged me $860 in what they claim to charge for "winterization" and didn't finish the job. When they finally came out they told me the control panel was broken, which it worked perfectly before their technician pulled all the wiring out (during winterization) and left the wiring hanging out of the panel. Then I called and talked to someone that said they will get back to me after a weekend and they never did so I left a message another week and a half later to which they never called me back. The senior manager Shawn was extremely rude and instead of fixing the problem her employee made she told me to find a different company to do it. If I could leave zero stars I would, the company is trash. read more

This Firm bought a competitor who I have been a satisfied customer of for over 20 years. I paid for their 2021 services last fall , it is now mid June (15) and they have just scheduled spring startup for June 28 ! And of course they scheduled maintenance for July 6th. No explanations just a text stating that they would be out on these dates. A phone call brought the response that there were drought conditions and they did things differently and they hadn't taken care of their OWN customers yet. Unbelievable! I think I was supposed to be one of their customers since they took my money months earlier. I told the rep not to bother as I have had to turn on my own system and of course no offer to refund my money and no return call from a manager or owner. This company is so unorganized. If they are understaffed just be honest. "Karen" takes forever to return messages. They schedule appointments and never show up. The boss is never available to answer calls for his workers so they can't finish the job. And when they don't show they LIE and say their GPS company vehicle tracker shows they were there all day. Yet, won't provide proof when you challenge them. Don't ever hire them. We are in year two of falling for their promises. We are done. read more

Had an appointment end of day on a Friday, I left work early and no one showed up.... No call no reschedule. I had to call them on Tuesday and dealt with Courtney, not the most courteous person. Brad was out, no one can call and reschedule? Since when do I have to call someone to reschedule my appointment for me to spend money with them, this was for a brand new irrigation system not a 100 repair. This company has terrible customer service. I submitted a request for an appointment online and received an email to call for service. When I was finally able to get through (I was disconnected 3 times), I was given only 1 time of availability which did not work for our schedule. No other appointment was offered. Very disappointed, Grapids. I was a loyal customer for 7+ years. Then I was charged $464 to cap off 6 sprinkler heads, which required 2 service calls, multiple calls and arguments. I get to call again tomorrow and argue about the bill. You could do so much better Grapids. By the way, caps cost less than $2.00 a piece at Home Depot. The crew that installed our sprinkling system was genuinely friendly and especially considerate about minimizing disruptions which was much appreciated since I work from my home office. They did a stellar job cleaning up after the installation was complete, going above and beyond what I was expecting. Later when I managed to back my car off the driveway into the yard and broke a sprinkler head, they were out there the next day fixing it (and they didn't even make fun of my driving inabilities). I am truly pleased with the results and the service and have recommended Grapids to several friends. read more

He discovered 4 areas where our fence installers had broken the lines and was sure to not leave our job until everything was repaired and cleaned up. The worst service ever. They charge more than everybody else, they do not do the job right so that us the customers call them back. In that way they make money. Juan and his team on-site were polite and hard-working individuals, however, the miscommunication and unprofessionalism from the office was VERY disappointing. We were scheduled in a two hour window which we were told we needed to be home for. The team never showed to do the work. We called 30 minutes AFTER the end of the window to get a status, and were told they were running behind and would have to reschedule. We rescheduled for another 2 hour window two days later, and the team, once again, DID NOT SHOW with no call or follow up. They then showed up during an unscheduled time, hours later, near the end of the work day with no notice or warning (they seemed unaware of their scheduled window), took only 1.5 hours to do what what we were told would be a full day job, got charged for hauling dirt away, which never happened, then were charged the full amount of the estimate the next day WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION or communication from the office. We are sad to say that we will NOT be recommending this company or using them in the future, despite the courtesy of the on-site team. read more

I had identified a problem with a "T" fitting that connects to the valve box. Since I didn't have time to find a similar fitting I called Grapids Irrigation for a quick fix. I had to schedule out a week and a half (could be better but this is what I had expected). When I made the appointment they told me a time-frame for them to show up. They made the time frame but did not call to let me know when they were on their way. It was a good thing I left a message saying where the control box was located and that I left the garage unlocked. My wife works from home and she noticed the guy arrive spend about 45 minutes to fix the fitting and then off he went. I did not get a call saying the work was done. I paid $75 for the service call on top of the time/parts. For 45 minutes of work and probably a $2 part (at most) it cost me $253.10. I expected to be charged for his time but at about $251.10 and hour that seems quite expensive. I had to hunt around to actually find the bill too. They emailed it to me and it went to my junk mail. On the bright side, they showed up during the time they said they would and the sprinkler is now working. But if I were you I would either 1. make the time to fix it yourself (I could definitely buy the right tools for $250--maybe a few extra). or 2. try another company that has reasonable pricing. If they would have taken the $75 off the work I could have accepted that or if they would have charged a decent rate per hour. One more thing, they did not itemize parts vs. labor on the invoice. They put service call on one line and everything else on the other. Would have been nice to have a more detailed invoice. The most detailed thing on the invoice is where they copied down my words of identification of the problem. read more

Grapids did some repair work for me on my lake fed irrigation system and I would highly recommend them to anyone in the future.

Very disappointed. A couple of years ago, a service tech cut the pipe, lost the pump plug and disconnected some wires. I was told it would take over $200 to fix or a new pump by the new tech. The manager was going to come take a look and better explain what happened. He never showed or followed up with me. read more
