Their near perfect reviews left by many truly speak for the kind of restaurant it is. It's only 10 minutes away from my northeast DTC house. How come I didn't discover this place until a few days ago? This is not necessarily a fancy restaurant in any way but it sure is a clean restaurant. When I arrived at the peak dinner time, one of the workers was cleaning the little mess left behind by a diner. And she was very thorough in cleaning. I picked up one of the menus at a table and that was when this super friendly gentleman in the kitchen asked me, "Is this here or to go, my friend?" Ahh, thank for calling me a friend! Like I always do, instead of getting me a huge entree plate, I got me a few sides as a nice accompaniment to what I already have at home. Grape leaves and tzatziki sauce definitely sounded good to me on top of falafels. The same guy in the kitchen continued to be friendly to me while I was placing my order. He carried on a nice casual small talk conversation with me without any pause. He truly made an effort to get to know me. Once home, I immediately started my dinner. I was truly impressed with the grape leaves. They are marinated with jalapeño so they've got a good kick in it. This is very unique for grape leaves as I've never had spicy ones before. Falafels are nice and brown with perfect crunchiness. The tzatziki sauce was great for dipping some raw veggies I had in my fridge. Later that night, my daughter came by with empty stomach. To the question she asked me, "Do you have any food?" I replied with an evil looking grin on my face, "Yes, I've got just that!" and gave her some of the leftovers from my earlier dinner. She was beyond impressed with everything especially the grape leaves! "Where did you get all this great food?" she asked to which I replied, "Grape Leaves Mediterranean Restaurant on Mississippi and Peoria!" I love middle eastern food and I love trying new places. So I gave this place a shot. When I pulled up I thought it was going to be a greasy spoon style middle eastern food which I don't like...luckily it wasn't. The server barely spoke English which made asking questions about the food difficult. I ordered the half chicken platter. When the food arrived I was psyched because it looked delicious but when I ate it, it was mediocre. The rice was cooked well but lacked flavor. The chicken had a weird flavor that I didn't enjoy and it was overcooked and dry. I had to choke it down to eat it. I was pretty let down by the whole experience and I definitely can't recommend this place and I won't be coming back. read more

My sister and I made a stop at Grape Leaves on the way to Monument from the airport after reading so many reviews. Thank you, reviewers! This Mediterranean food is legit, and the service is the best! We started with a creamy, delicious, gratis hummus with pita and asked for their homemade hot sauce. Yummmm. I had the chicken shawarma plate with rice from the owner's recommendation. My sister had a gyro with fries. Both came with a small salad with vinaigrette dressing, and all of the food was delicious! I thought I would save some for the next day's lunch, but that did not happen! The chicken and the gyro meat were tender and seasoned perfectly. Who raves about rice and French fries? Evidently I do because both were incredible. The rice was light, fluffy, beautiful and tasty! We didn't have room for dessert, but next time we will plan better. Still on the hunt for the best baba ghanoush in the metro Denver area, my wonderful MIL and I took the long drive out to Grape Leaves restaurant on Friday. Excellent decision because Grape Leaves rocks. Some of the best baba ghanoush and falafel in Aurora. And the place rivals Yahya's and the Damacus Grill for some of the best Middle Eastern food in the entire Denver metro area. Liked the staff and loved the food. We were visiting Denver and on the fence about dining here. (We just got turned away by Great Greek, go read that review if you have time!) When viewing the restaurant from the outside, you may think it's a little sketch, but most restaurants like that have amazing food! Lol When we walked in, there were two parties in the dining room. The chef/owner came to greet us. He was really friendly. They brought out salads with a yummy dressing made with oils and vegetables (carrots) it seemed very healthy. They also brought out little bowls of sides, including a few that looked like a slaw, beets, and tzatziki. We ordered the hummus, it was so pretty and creamy! I got the chicken shawarma plate with rice. Portions were very generous! My husband got the chicken shawarma quesadilla and when I tell you that's probably the BEST quesadilla I've ever had in LIFE!!! In all my life! My wife and I stopped in for a quick lunch yesterday. Grape Leaves is unassuming from the street. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we entered because the interior was warm and inviting. We were greeted by someone behind the counter who seemed to be enthused that we were there. Our food was served by another individual who seemed proud of the food coming out of the kitchen. Both individuals were extremely approachable and seemed to care. What we were really excited about, though, was the food. The food was of good quality, fresh, presented well, and perhaps the best Mediterranean food I have had in the Denver metro area. The food was priced well with generous portions. This place is a keeper, and to be visited often. Great food, good prices, casual environment which is worth getting out of the house for, but which does not require a big commitment. read more

By far, the best Mediterranean/Halal food I've ever had. We got the beef schwarma sandwich, chicken schwarma plate, tabbouleh salad, and garlic sauce. Their rice was so good! I dropped in for lunch around 11:15 on a Saturday morning. I looked at the menu and decided to order ful (mashed fava bean) from the appetizer menu. The gentleman behind the cashier did not know ful was on the menu and I had to tell him 3 times ful, fava bean, #50 and pointed to it on the menu. I thought he got it but he brought #49 baba ghanoush instead. Anyway, the ful was tasty and nicely garnished, except it also tasted exactly like the canned ones I got from the Middle Eastern grocery stores. I also ordered a hot tea. It came in a to go cup with a lid. It was scalding hot and burnt my tongue. Tea or coffee should not be made that hot, it was the wrong temperature. It is entirely possible the other items on the menu are good, but skip the ful and tea. read more

My friend and I stumbled upon this place when we were looking for a different restaurant in the same shopping center that happened to be closed then. The outside was not a welcoming view as the windows and door glass were cracked and there were bars on the windows. But we braved the door and walked in. SO GLAD WE DID. The place is super mom-and-pop and bare...and we were totally for that vibe. We walked up to the counter and I assume the owner/chef Hussen was working. He invited us to sit down and he would come and take our order. I was a bit worried since we were the only people in the place but it was a weird time between lunch and dinner, so not uncommon. I mean the other food places were closed. Soooo. We ordered the Chicken Shawarma Plate, mixed Shawarma Plate, and an order of Falafel. DELISH! My friend and I were blown away by how tender and delicious the meat was. The plates came with salad, hummus, rice, and warm toasted pita bread. THE HUMMUS!!! SOOO creamy and delish we ended up ordering more as a dessert! that As we were there, the phone rang quite often and we realized that it was a ton of to-go orders. Soon, people were in and out carrying huge bags of food and we knew that we hit the jackpot. Hussen (I hope that is who it was) was SO friendly and helpful. We promised to be back...and we will. I was ready to dismiss this place because my team loathed and despised the one time they ordered from the former restaurant that Grape Leaves took over. On a whim, I ordered from Grape Leaves and not sure what the previous problem was, but the food was great. The team couldn't believe it was from the same location. Management, I suppose, is everything and clearly, there's a reason that Mr. Kebob is no longer. We ordered the grape leaves (amazing), the shawarma combo plate (seriously, enough for 2-3 people), and the baba ghanoush which is my favorite. OMG, so much goodness. My very picky staff could not believe that the location wasn't cursed but after sampling our food, changed their minds. They too thought the new restaurant knows what they're doing. I'm looking forward to trying some new dishes next time and possibly ordering the $99/team plate. I thought it would be a fun office lunch (instead of chipotle) and a great way to thank my incredible staff for the hard work they've put in already this year. read more

A tasty little package on Mississippi Avenue a bit east of Peoria, Grape Leaves Restaurant has moved into the space recently vacated by Mr. Kabob and promises to woo you with a similar range of Middle Eastern delights to those offered by its predecessor. As you may have guessed, the dish mentioned in the eatery's name is a standout here, offered in both a small and large serving to placate an array of appetites. So whether you refer to those little meat/rice parcels as Yaprak, Dolma(des) or even Warak Enab, you'll have a most pleasurable time popping them into that gaping gob of yours. But I wouldn't want to overlook other appetizers - or rather, Meze - so for those with a bit less stomach space, how about an order of creamy cheese derived from strained yogurt (Labneh)? The especially health-conscious among you might prefer a plate of crisp purple cabbage slaw (a dish which has in recent years become especially popular amongst Kurds in the owner's home country - Iraq - who sometimes call the vegetable Kelem(ê) Mor). Then again, as it's getting close to winter, perhaps a nice hot cup of Shorbat Adas (red lentil soup) might quench those famished flames? Yes, and I'm just getting started, so wait 'til you hear what's next. In the short time that Grape Leaves has been open for business, it has become particularly renowned for its shawarma - both the beef (Lahm Baqarah) and chicken (Djaj) varieties, to be more precise. And you can see what all the excitement is about by sampling those grilled meat morsels in a number of ways - perhaps on some griddled unleavened flatbread (Khubz Saj), or even in a... quesadilla?!? Yes, that was quite a curveball wasn't it? But if you do happen to make that cheesy choice, I'm pretty sure you won't regret it. Or, if you're looking for a quick iron fix, maybe a serving of Kebda (liver, in this case lamb) will perk you up nicely. Veggie fans, I wouldn't dream of depriving you either - why not side some sprightly cracked-wheat, parsley, and tomato salad (Tabbouleh) with a few bean/mixed-herb fritters (Falafel)? I was just driving down Mississippi when the Grape Leaves sign popped out calling me in. I am always looking for new places to add to my list of regulars. I don't even live close to this awesome, tiny space but will stop whenever I am in that neighborhood. There are only a handful of tables which are adequate to sit and enjoy your food. Best grape leaves I have ever had in Denver! There is a great lemony, oily covering to them making them not dry at all like so many others around town. Melt in my mouth delicious experience. I also tried the shawarma combo with beef and chicken that was served with a little salad, rice, hummus and an equally incredibly flavored Tzatziki sauce. All the food hit the flavor spot! One note, I did notice two gentleman getting these enormous lamb shank legs that came in a bowl with broth which I would not try but others surely would appreciate. I noticed the storefront on the way to drop off someone at the airport and stopped in a couple of days later for lunch when I had a craving for a gyros sandwich. This is some of the best gyros in the area and I have eaten at a lot of Mediterranean restaurants in Denver and surrounds. The meat was tender with good chew and spice. The fries were hot and crispy (just like they should be but rarely are). The dining area is nothing special but clean and comfortable. This restaurant will be on my regular lunch rotation from now on and I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu offerings. read more
