First time to order from here. Grub Hub delivered and it was still hot. The portion was so much it didn't look like I had eaten at all. I ordered the smothered pork chops over rice along with corn (tasted like fresh off cob), cabbage and fried okra. Everything was so delicious and I highly recommend Granny Dees

Smothered wings over rice, collard greens and cabbage. Everything flavorful and delicious. Wings extremely tender.

Granny Dees kitchen is an outstanding soul food restaurant, a short distance from old town Spring. It's not very large, but the minute you walk through the doors the smells reassure you that you've made a wise decision. Most restaurants, even the best of restaurants do some dishes well and maybe lacking a few others. However, after ordering two meals for my wife and myself, and then ordering another meal to go, I didn't fine a single entrée or side dish that I didn't think was outstanding. The prices are reasonable there's seating available and of course takeout.

Where do I begin. My wife and I were looking for some home made fried chicken. Wasn't really in the mood for large scale places. After a little searching we stumbled upon Granny Dee's! And I must say I am not disappointed at all! We got the fried chicken dinner with Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The chicken was cooked to order and was perfect! The Mac and cheese was absolutely delicious and the mashed potatoes tasted just like grandmas! My only concern was the cornbread that came with it, a tad bit dry, but warmed it up with some butter and it was perfect! My family and I will most certainly be back in the near future!

Two bites in and .... Wow If you want to delight your taste buds and wonder why the prices are so reasonable, this place will blow your mind. Smother pork chops, rice, mashed potatoes, greens fresh cornbread(with a coke) $15.89. I am doing a happy dance.

I have been two times for lunch. The restaurant is attached next door to a gas station and parking space is limited. My first visit was on a Thursday and I ordered a two piece fried chicken dinner of a leg and thigh with green bean and black eyed peas with tea for $12.98 with tax. The meal came out in about 20 minutes. The chicken was easily a 5. Perfectly battered and fried it was delicious. It's too bad that fried chicken is only offered on Wednesday and Thursday. The veggies were both very good in taste and it came with a moist and flavorful piece of cornbread. This meal was a 5 and made me eager for a return visit. About a week later, I returned on a Sunday for lunch. This time, I went with the smothered pork chops that comes with rice and gravy along with two veggies of which I chose the same two from the previous visit forgetting that I had ordered them then. This meal was ready in about 10 minutes. Meals here are served in to go containers and I like the way they wrap with foil the bread separately from the food. This meal was not to the level of the previous one. My biggest complaint was being given a very dry and stale piece of cornbread. You could look at it and see it was inedible. The smothered pork chops were ok but only rated a 3.5 with the rice, gravy and veggies about the same. This was not a bad meal (except for the cornbread) it just wasn't up to the same level as the fried chicken. With tax and tea it was a little over $14. I will give a 4 overall and would like to try their catfish next time unless it's a Wednesday or a Thursday.

A small one crawling on the wall near our table and someone from my party saw a larger one crawling near the kitchen. And boy was it stuffy in there. I asked our waitress if she could move a floor fan near for some relief and to detour the gnats, she said she go ask but she never came back and when she did she completely forgot my request. We weren't seated in the greater eating area where it was cooler and maybe where the gnats were less of a bother. The food was delicious and homemade, you can tell it was made with high quality ingredients and that Southern skill that you can only get from helping Grandma in the kitchen. BUT the roaches made us lose our appetite. Such a shame. It seemed like the building went down. They don't seem to put as much effort into the condition of that place as they do the food. Dusty ceiling fans and crummy floors. I appreciate the homey vibe but it looked really junky, more stuff piled in unoccupied corners as before. I gave a lot of things the side eye, I mean it there has to be maintained asthetic. They charged an 18% gratuity on my tab for a party of 8 but I arrived with 4 people, the other 4 had already been there, paid and was almost done with their meal. Then of course the cashier/waitress still mentioned an additional, optional tip. I didn't think that was fair. At the end of it all she wasn't the best waitress.

It still was borderline of being too much salt in the oxtail dish but it was tolerable. I ordered the chicken and waffles dish. It came with eggs (I added cheese) and grits. We were sat relatively quick, I would put reservation for this place if I were you, but when we came it wasn't too busy. We were sat and was greeted by our server, Fabian. The vibe was very nice, had the R&B jams in the background but wasn't overly loud to where you can't converse. It was a beautiful sunny day outside and it reflected all throughout the large windows of the restaurant. A+ for the ambiance. We started off with mimosa carafes for the table, great blend of juice and champagne. No complaints at all about the mimosas. He started us with a round of biscuits, with butter & jelly on the side. Would give it overall rating of 8.5/10, I actually liked them they weren't too sweetened like other biscuits. For food, I ordered the Buttermilk Waffles, turkey links, and side of Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese. The food was good, above average in my opinion. The buttermilk waffles weren't overly crisp but still had nice warm flavor (8.7/10), turkey links were satisfactory (8.1/10), and the mac & cheese was above average as well, not out of this world but pretty good nonetheless (8.0/10). In my opinion, I give this restaurant a 5-stars, not just because of the food (4 stars), but just the overall experience. The ambiance was great, our server was hilarious, kept us entertained the entire time, and they were convenient nonetheless. They do 20% auto-gratuity as well. Was a calmer brunch with a good vibe, something that is very underrated in a city like Houston. I would recommend this place if you have older adult family in town or if you want an experience more... "demure" for a Sunday.
