We went to Tumble 22 on a Friday evening. The lot was full so we parked in the lot next door. The inside is small but there was outside seating too. It was too hot outside. We were able to get seated at a high top right near the door. Service was slow but our waitress was friendly. I ordered a beer, took awhile. We ordered our food: half mixed bone in chicken for my husband, I ordered two piece boneless thighs, my son ordered Korean fried tenders. We got the Mo-hot spice level which was perfect. The amount of food on each plate was really good, we had leftovers. My 21 year old son could only finish 1.5 of the strips. The fries are shoestring style and pretty good, the bone in chicken reheats the best of all. It was better the second day. I also ordered the deviled eggs with a piece of candied bacon on top, they were really good and helped to calm the spiciness of the chicken perfectly. We will go back, many more things to try.
I really wanted to like this spot but it just did not satisfy my hot chicken craving. I got the OG sandwich with fries with the 3rd level spice and it wasn't spicy. I could've done a 4-5 level but the sandwich itself looked good. My chicken still had chicken skin on it so the breading slid right off. Flavor was good but just overall not great. Service was good and there was a good amount of tables/booths
First let me just rave about how wonderful our waiter Darwin was. He made suggestions, he helped my husband in making a decision by bringing small samples to the table, and overall he was just awesome. Another special mention goes to Mr. Picky's tall glass of Arnold Palmer. So often restaurants serve you something that tastes bitter and nasty, but the iced tea and lemonade in this were sweet and really pleasant, a lovely surprise. Mr. Picky selected boneless, while I went for the half chicken all dark meat. Between us we had broccoli salad, mac & cheese, coleslaw and fries. Sauces were comeback, hot honey, ranch and honey mustard, and the Comeback was my favorite. Of the sides, I liked the broccoli salad and coleslaw the best, while Mr. Picky pretty much ignored them all and just focused on dipping his boneless chicken into the hot honey sauce. They make their own pies, which I think is wonderful. Dessert was the pecan chocolate toffee pie and Key lime pie, with the kitchen splitting them both so that we could get tastes of each. We by far preferred the Key lime pie and needed that little citrus jolt at the end of the meal.
Great happy hour (M-F 4-6 pm) deal! I stopped by and got the 2 piece tenders (w side & sauce) for $9 and bone in chicken. The chicken was generously sized and juicy. The fries were good. Comeback sauce was delicious! Service was a bit lacking but likely due to the amount of customers. I'll definitely be back!
This spot has officially earned a permanent place on my Houston favorites list! From the moment you walk in, you're met with warm, welcoming energy. The staff go above and beyond to make sure everyone feels at home--they even greet newcomers with a sample tray, which is such a thoughtful (and genius!) way to introduce you to the heat levels before committing to a full plate. And can we talk about the sides? The macaroni is hands-down my go-to--ultra creamy, perfectly seasoned, and the ultimate comfort food that rounds out any meal just right. It's the kind of dish you think about long after you've finished eating. Highly, highly recommend this place--for the food, the vibes, and the hospitality that keeps you coming back!
Ambiance: Southern/rustic dine-in eatery with a bar and ample seating, perfect for a quick solo lunch or family dinner. The hostess and waitstaff are super friendly and accommodating. The fries and Mac and cheese were delicious. I like the chicken - I didn't get any "heat" on mine. It seems like maybe there's more flavor if you get a certain heat level, otherwise you really have to depend on the sauce for flavor. That said, I enjoyed my meal and would go back and try out more of their chicken options - like their sandwiches! Parking onsite, clean and fast service. Walking distance to many other shops/restaurants/bars.
Bottom line: I'd only come back for the tenders and sides, but not for the other items or the inconsistent service (tried to charge me for a shake they never brought out until I called it out). At that point, Raising Cane's or Popeyes is a better choice. The sides were a strong 4.5--well-seasoned, with the broccoli salad being my favorite. The chicken tenders were definitely the highlight, and I regret not just ordering those. Instead, I went with the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was mid and pretty disappointing. The Szechuan fries were a total miss for me. I love Szechuan flavors and was expecting that signature peppercorn spice, but instead, they had a strong Dijon mustard taste. If it's Dijon-based, that really should be stated on the menu. My fiancé got the Dive Burger, and it was another letdown--fell apart easily and lacked seasoning. Service was generally alright, but there were issues. The server asked if I wanted my shake as an appetizer or dessert, and I chose appetizer. It never came, and I was still going to be charged until I pointed it out. A couple behind me had the same issue with their fries.
I took my friend here for their first visit and Tumble 22 did not disappoint! The food and service were excellent again! They prepared him a sample tray and he loved everything on it. He also loved the Family friendly vibe! FYI they also have a bar. If you like frozen drinks I suggest trying the "Big Larry" btw did I mention that they use free range chicken? Ok I just did...
Been wanting to try this spot for a while. As you walk in the hosts are super friendly and we were able to get seated right away. There's a full open bar and lots of seating indoors and it looks like there's patio seating available as well. The server asked if it was our first time coming and offered a sampler plate that is complimentary which was awesome and had sides I would have never probably known about had they not put it out which helped actually make my decision easy for what to order. Who would think that a chicken spot had greens and they were GOOD! Has a little spice but they were very well seasoned and still had just that little bit of crunch. The Mac n cheese is creamy and hearty and you can get them "dirty" which looks to be covered with some of their chicken. I ended up with the mo' hot chicken tenders which really was not too hot. This is a great spot for chicken lovers.
Pretty good chicken. Nice and tasty. I had bonless and bone in chicken thighs. With dirty fries. They give a slice of bread pickles with the chicken. The slice of bread reminds me of eating at my maw maw's house as a kid. The only issue is I'm not crazy about bread and butter pickles. So I was a little disappointed bc I thought it was kosher pickles which I think pairs better with hot honey chicken. I make it all the time at home and I prefer kosher pickles but hay, if you like bread and butter you will be fine or you don't have to eat the pickles.The restaurant is cool and laid back. The wait staff is great. This place will definitely be in our rotation of Friday night chicken spots.
if I don't say one good thing about this place, just know their lemonade is to DIE FOR! I am a big tea and/or lemonade type of girl and I love it when a franchise can actually make that southern lemonade that I crave constantly. It's not too watered down or too sweet, I hate lemonade that tastes like it has TOO many calories but Tumble22 definitely passed the marks when it comes to refreshments being exactly what it is; REFRESHING! I am not a big huge to die fan because I only get ONE thing off the menu every-time, lol! My go to is the Half Cobb Salad with grilled mo'hot bites, no boiled egg (but keep that deviled egg right there!), no tomatoes and if I'm feeling very lightweight, I leave the avocado on standby. In the picture, my bites were fried and not grilled which was a honest mistake but I love the bites fried or grilled but I do prefer it grilled! Try it, tell me which version is better! Grilled or Fried? My friend got the Dive burger which looked AMAZING! I'll make sure to confirm it was in fact the dive burger and nothing else but it did look like it had some type of coleslaw on the burger. We both are not fond of coleslaw so it was interesting to see him try it and actually like it! I was prompted to write a review for Tumble22 after seeing an elite friend of mines try Tumble22! She recommended me the hot honey chicken! So I will definitely be back to try that before the summer ends! Other than the food, I love the ambiance! A small tip; eat indoors during the day because of pesky flies and eat out on their patio at night! The mood, the vibe and the weather at night always makes sense at Tumble22. Which meal is your favorite at Tumble22? I need more options to try and get out my comfort zone with!
I took maybe 5 bites while driving bc I was so hungry and decided to just wait til I got home to add sauce. I was very disappointed. I thought the chicken would be like hot chicken but it wasn't Crispy at all. I guess it's supposed to be pulled chicken but still not much in it and little seasoning. Maybe 5 pickle slices... but the fries are fine. Just 'mid' at best. Maybe I'll go back and get something else from the menu but I'm not impressed at all. Fries: 5/10 Chicken: 4/10 Seasoning and toppings: 3/10
My husband and I ate here many years ago that it doesn't even count since we couldn't remember our experience. We ordered in the drive-thru during that time. Thus, we were literally in shock when we entered into the venue and realized that it is a SIT-DOWN RESTAURANT! I didn't think it would be fast food style like Popeye's or KFC. However, I imagined it would be along the line of Cane's, but a little more upscale. My first reaction was, "Aww man, I'm going to have to pay more for something that is already sort of pricey." I'm thinking in terms of tipping. HOWEVER, I actually had a really great time here. The menu is simple, yet unique simultaneously with monthly special burgers and Korean inspired flavors. I LOVE the fact that you can substitute the crispy chicken for GRILLED. I'm all about eating out, enjoying food, but also trying to select better options. Healthy eating doesn't mean boring! This place seems like an American/Korean fusion restaurant, or an Americanized version of Bon Chon. The vibe is really cozy, intimate, and chill. It's a great spot to casually hang out with friends or family. The wait for the chicken was long, BUT it was worth the wait. The food was hot and fresh. The Korean BBQ OG Grilled Chicken Sandwich - It was huge! Even though I am a petite 95 lb lady, I devoured that sandwich. The flavor wasn't an authentic Korean flavor, but it wasn't bad! It was more sour and salty for my taste. I think it would balance out more if there were no pickles, and a mixture of the kimchi carrot slaw + regular mayo based coleslaw. Szechuan Fries - The Szechuan mustard sauce is powerful and incredibly overwhelming. I do NOT recommend that sauce at all. I think if you order these fries, just OMIT that mustard sauce. I felt like all my sinuses cleared up and my eye balls were about to pop out. Dirty Fries - You can't go wrong with cheese fries. I am not a sour person, so I didn't enjoy the pickles on the fries. Our server, Brenna, was INCREDIBLE! She is the main reason why this review is getting a 5 star. She didn't know that it was basically our first time and she still gave us exceptional service. She was friendly, patient, and sweet. We ordered the Szechuan Fries because it was a free offer upon signing up for their rewards program. I told her I didn't like the mustard sauce and she offered to get us the Dirty Fries! I was like, "What?!" The fries were already free, so I didn't expect her to even offer a substitution. ALSO, for the Kid's Meal, she let us know that the side could be substituted for something else at no extra charge. If she didn't make that known to us, we would have had no idea. I'm glad she mentioned it because the boys LOVE mac & cheese, so that was perfect. Also, we were already getting fries, so it helped us to get more variety. All in all, the place is a little expensive, but I had a great time. The service was superb, the food was great, and I noticed that they are involved in the community. I love supporting businesses that give back. Thus, I would recommend trying this place out, even if it's just once! read more

Accustomed to Houston hot chicken, Red Chickz and the like, I causally walked into Tumble 22 fully expecting a fast casual, order at the counter experience. Boy was I surprised to be seated by a hostess only to glance around to find a bar, enclosed patio and semi open kitchen. Did the meal itself differ from its fast casual counterparts? Not by much, but the offerings were more robust. I love to see pie on the menu alongside shakes, and while Mac and cheese and fries are welcome, orange chicken, Korean spices, broccoli salad, collards and heavenly eggs are a welcome change of pace. Our first trip (dine in) was about a 4-5 star experience. I waiter was not the most attentive and the food took quite awhile but the experience was positive enough for me to return. The second trip was a drive thru experience and it was...not as pleasant. Our service wasn't the best, our attendant less than enthused to be doing their job. A matter of fact, I felt like I was bothering her by ordering. While my food was fine, my sandwich came without napkins and again the food (one sandwich) took quite awhile. I'm unsure if I'll return with so many options in the area, but I'm glad I experienced them twice! read more
Service was awesome. They were very welcoming and they stopped by often at the table. It was our first time and they helped guide us through the choices. Broccoli salad tasted great, my chicken sandwich was moist and shoestring fries were crunchy! I really liked the dirty mac as the cheese was cheesy and the chicken sandwich was also really good. The sandwich looked squished but for the amazing price who cares as long as it taste right! I would absolutely come back. I hope they open more locations and into a bigger location for this one since it was busy! read more

This is one of my favorite places both for the quality, environment, and service, but also because it's so close by. I ate here for the first time in July when they had a fundraiser, and started coming back more frequently on Tuesdays when they have deals on specific items from 4-6pm. I've brought so many friends here, and honestly I think about coming here at least once a week. I start out with their dirty fries, which are normal french fries with a mild nacho cheese, topped with shredded chicken and pickles. I then order some tenders, usually just hot because anything hotter than that is too much to handle imo, with comeback sauce. These tenders are pretty big, so an order of two is enough for me to take leftovers home. I usually get mac and cheese, which is so creamy and filling that I usually also end up taking it home as well. If not mac and cheese, I'll order their broccoli salad. My favorite drink from here is the Lil Larry. It's pretty strong, so I opt for this instead of the big larry. As for their pies, Ive tried the pecan chocolate toffee pie, which is so good, but I would only order if I'm REALLY craving something sweet. I've ordered their key lime pie, but I'm not sure if I got a bad batch. The time I ordered it, it had some type of lard taste to it. Like enough to where I couldn't finish it the taste was so apparent. I've also ordered their chocolate cream pie, which is real simple and creamy! Definitely a safe choice if you don't want anything too sweet after eating. Just to add: I've brought a friend here once who was iffy because she had gone to the Memorial location before and wasn't too happy with her experience, and once she ate here she was pleasantly surprised! She didn't expect the food to come out so good. And even apart from the food, every time I've dined here, the servers are always so kind and attentive. I don't think i've had even a single tiny issue with a server here before. I will be coming back and bringing more of my friends for sure. read more

I love my fried chicken, Tumble22 is a solid place that's been around awhile...but I'm glad to see business is still coming as the place can get packed both inside and patio. I always either get the leg/thigh bone in combo or the boneless thigh combo. The chicken is juicy and the batter is crunchy. The fries are just ok - I wish they were thicker and had more seasoning. I haven't had the bug jumbo tenders yet ... next time! read more

Food: We ordered during Happy Hour and got the Lil OG and the 2 Piece Jumbo Tender, both of which came with sides. The Lil OG exceeded my expectations--it includes coleslaw, so I didn't need to get extra as a side, but honestly, you can never have too much coleslaw! The 2 Piece Jumbo Tender was crispy and flavorful; I chose the hot honey sauce, which added a great touch. The fries were also crispy, and everything came out hot and fresh. I highly recommend coming during Happy Hour for a quick, satisfying meal. Reasonable prices too. 9/10. Service: Service was solid--friendly and efficient. 9/10. read more

Decent place to get chicken sandwiches and fun sides! Vibes are energetic inside, and a sports game is usually on. Good parking. Food always comes out piping hot and there's a great selection of sides, milkshakes, and desserts. The servers have always been friendly, but after stopping by a few times, I've come to expect slow service. I normally wouldn't be too concerned, but for a restaurant with a drive-thru window it's hard not to assume that things move along a bit quicker. First timers are also apparently offered free side samples, but I was never offered this on my first visit and only recently found this out- not sure if this is newly implemented or if the training is inconsistent on offering this. I like ordering the Southern (dark meat/chicken thigh sandwich), but they also have the OG if you prefer all white meat, and plenty other options in between. Spice level scale is good with 6 levels ranging from nothing at all ("Painless") to "Stupid Hot," which uses Ghost Pepper for heat. It had been about a year or two since I tried this place, but I kindly re-introduced my taste buds to it One thing I like about this establishment is that when you order bone-in chicken, it is made to order. It did take about 20 minutes, but I would never complain about fresh made to order chicken so I did not mind waiting . I went here twice and both times after arriving home 10 minutes or so later the chicken was still piping hot. The Mac and cheese is creamy and the greens are decent too. I think they may use turkey to flavor the greens which is great. I really like their chicken! read more
Decided to stop by for an adult beverage. The restaurant was clean, service was quick and friendly. I ordered the original O.G (mo hot) fried chicken sandwich with a side of macaroni and cheese. My drink of choice was a Bloody Mary. Nice place, great vibe and the food is pretty good! Please check your bag for to-go orders to ensure everything you ordered is there. I started coming here during the pandemic and been back ever since. Food is always consistent and good. There's plenty of seating, and they outside seating as well. There's also a bar as well. They also have drive-thru and curbside if you don't want to dine-in. Menu-wise, plenty of chicken options to choose from (sandwiches, tenders, bone-in chicken, etc). They also for appetizers and desserts. This visit, I did the Orange Chicken OG Sandwich with the mac n cheese. I also did the Blood Orange Frozen Margarita. Their chicken sandwiches are always good, and this one was great. Only issue I had was there was peanuts on the sandwich. I'm guessing it was part of the slaw. I have peanut allergies and that could've been bad. I scraped them off and all was well. There was no information I found that it contained peanuts. read more

Have been wanting to try this place out but it's not exactly a skip and hop away from home. Glad I was able to come and try it out. The customer service was excellent here. I really enjoyed how they let us sample the sides and some of the spice levels of chicken. Think about it, if it's your first time at a restaurant and what if you get a side you aren't fond of or the spice level is too much or not enough. You may not enjoy your experience of the food as much and be decline to not come back. With that being said my favorite sides were the Mac and cheese and Broccoli. They both give a good balance when eating something spicy. Mac and cheese was real creamy, it might be cause of them using mascarpone. Fries has were meh it not really fond of them. Glad I didn't do any of the quick pick fries options. It needed some kind of seasoning or maybe different style cut. I got the 1/4 white bone in mo'hot chicken. Which I don't see many places doing bone in. The chicken were a decent size and real crispy. If you let it sit then the crispiness goes away on the bottom. Oh and the bread will go real soggy so best to remove bread out first thing. Overall it was great food, environment and customer service. I first visited the Tumble 22 in April when I was coming here to pick up my keys for my place. The waiter gave me the background of this restaurant and the area; he explained the different heat levels the chicken comes in. There are six levels of heat, from Wimpy Hot to Stupid Hot. Now the chicken, I like that the spices go straight through the crispy skin to the meat. I will post the picture showing the spices on the meat that brings the heat. The skin is so good I could have eaten that alone. I added the Dirty Fries smothered in Queso with big chunks of chicken, a new dish for me, and I have tried to make it at home, but no such luck. I think I need the chicken recipe. I enjoyed my food for sure, but I loved how pretty this place is with the old wooden window frames. It gives a quiet chic barn feel with the reds and beige and Rooster on the wall standing tall, along with the many other pictures. read more
