This is are go to place for recycle. They have been here for generations. Love the family run business. Their grandma is a walking history book. They are friendly, quick and professional. I have to start by saying that this place was a God send for us. We went to 4 other recycling centers first and though they were not closed yet, they told us that they were and we were turned away. Granicy Square was the last place we had to go to and as soon as we got there, we were nicely greeted. We were helped to sort out our items for recycling and I have to repeat this part, we were nicely greeted and helped. No wait time, this is a place with a very chill and friendly atmosphere, my son and I will definitely be coming back. I'll have to try out the pet food for our pets next time. read more

This isn't really a pet store. More like a conglomeration of petting zoo, equipment & truck rental, hallmark store, and pet store all rolled up into one. I don't know if I would recommend the visit if you're a looking for pet products, but since I don't live in the area and don't know if it's fair to be comparing their pet selection to stores that specializes in pets, I'll bump them up from 2 to 3 stars. Boutique dog stores are quite rare here in Lancaster/Palmdale and Granicy Square was the only one that sounded interesting. If you're the sort of person that loves "charming" details, then you'll probably find Granicy Square interesting. The best part of their pet section is their selection of raw food. If you're in the market for products like Primal, Nature's Variety, and bones like turkey necks and the sort, I'd recommend coming by here and checking out to see how their prices match up to where you currently buy. There are dry and canned food brands like Innova, EVO, Wellness, and Natural Balance among others. The best point is their raw food selection like Primal, Nature's Vairety, turkey necks, and other bones. I guess since I'm reviewing the dog and pet portion of their store, I'll stick with that, however Granicy Square offers a ton of other services including U-Haul rental, some sort of petting zoo with peacocks and some livestock, tractors, collectible porcelain and gift items, and I think I heard horses around there somewhere. It's a definite hodgepodge of services and pet food is more of an afterthought than a focus. Compared to dog stores, they have an mediocre selection of canned and dry foods. The pet portion of the store is mostly located in a dimly lit hallway on makeshift shelves. There are brands like Innova, Natural Balance, and Wellness, but they aren't presented well, especially for the price these products come at. Adding to the frustration are that the prices are not cheap to justify coming here often. I wouldn't recommend visiting if you are from out of the area and if you live around here, then I'd concede that perhaps I'm missing out of some of the details that would make Granicy Square a worthwhile regular visit. read more

This place has horrible customer service. Horrible! One lady told me something I was counting on. When I returned the truck on Monday, I was told something completely different and caused us to lose several hundred dollars. The receptionist then went on to lecture me about 'responsibility,' rather than just completing the transaction. She had the rub it in your face mentality. Never ever go here. I'm a pretty nice guy but this lady just pressed the right buttons. read more

I just went into this location to do some recycling. I used the buzzer 3 times. Then the guy comes out finally. I had started separating my cans from plastic bottles. They normally do this for me as I'm handicapped. The guy says hey haven't you been here before? I said yes. He said then you know how to separate everything I'm gonna take my lunch. I said I have very few items can't you wait a few minutes before taking your lunch? He sighs in disgust and I start to sort my items as he stands there watching. Then he reaches in my plastic and throws my Milo's container saying we don't do milk containers. I said nicely sir that's an ice T container and it's CRV. He walks back over to the container to see. Never says sorry just starts screaming at me. Telling me if I don't like it to take my business elsewhere. I'm literally shaken now because all my items are either on the wood sorter or in a wire cage. So I take my slip up front to the registers and tell the guy at the register. He's like ok I'll tell my boss. There was another customer back there cleaning a rental vehicle that was in shock of how the recycling guys behavior is. Point is go elsewhere. Let them go out of business if that's how they are Gonna treat people. read more

Yay for small, independent, family-run pet food stores! Actually, Granicy carries more than hard-to-find, top-of-the-line pet food (there's a gift shop with greeting cards, etc.), but dog food is the primary thing I get here (Canidae is my dog food of choice). I love walking in and seeing faded black & white family photographs strewn throughout the store. The kitschy interior has such an old-fashioned charm that is hard to find nowadays. Situated on the side of the road in a nondescript location on 20th St. East somewhere between Avenues K and L, I remember passing by this place so many times as a little girl, never really knowing what it was. It was only recently when I ventured into the store and discovered its rustic charm. What adds to the appeal is the family itself. Each person that has helped me has done so with the utmost grace and kindness. I bought some dog food earlier today and asked "Grandma" about the framed photo of a young couple by the cash register. She told me about how her and "Grandpa" were married 52 years ago. They even went to AV High School, back when it was the only high school in town. If you live in the Lancaster/Palmdale area and need dog food or other types of animal feed/supplies, come and support Granicy. You'll sleep better knowing that your money is well-spent going to an honest, hardworking family. NOTE: This is not one of those foo-foo, prissy pet boutiques. Don't come here expecting to wander around aimlessly looking for the latest craze in dog products or, God-forbid, dog fashion. The other reviewer seems to look down on this place just because it's not fancy-schamncy and because the dog food is not "presented well". Other than having the dog food bags piled on a shelf, I'm not exactly sure what more to ask for. As for the "frustration" that the other reviewer experienced with the high price points of the dog food here -- what can I say? This isn't confined to just Granicy. High-end dog food is going to be expensive no matter where you go. Any pet-lover familiar with brands like Innova or Canidae should know this. I come here because they offer warm, friendly service and, most importantly, they are 1 of only 2 places in the area that carry high-end dog food. They're nice and they sell what I wanna buy. This place very special to wife and I. Have been friends w/owners Robert and Mim since high school, and that was a long time ago. Their store is so much more than a mere pet supply store. If you need food for your elephant or mouse, our God daughter Robin will get it for you. Most supplies "on the shelf". Need a truck rental? They got em. They offer a recycle redemption place as well and pay top dollar too. A free petting zoo and a pond sporting turtles and koi fish for the kiddies, and old foggys like me. Looking for anything you might find in a yard sale Robin probably has what you're looking for. Give em a look see, you won't be disappointed. I've gone here once before and the service was just so terrible that I swore I'd never go again...but I thought to myself that everyone deserves a second chance.... I thought it'd be nice going to a small business to turn in my recyclables even if it meant that they'd pay you less. I really had looked forward to meeting the owners and becoming a regular but boy was I wrong! I waited for quite a bit in an empty field of creepy quietness for one one to come help me (this happened on my first visit as well) ... And then comes this young fella, I greeted him nicely but he had no interest in greeting me, he proceeded to tell me what to do with my recyclables (as if I was doing it wrong) ... ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE WHATSOEVER. I never got a "hello", "how are you" etc. I poured all my items in the proper bins as he instructed because after all, I was already there and had unloaded everything right?! Then he tells me to go to the office and to redeem my ticket. Well, I go inside and the same ol story with the people inside... I never got a "hello", "welcome", "how are you", NOTHING! These people are rude, and like I said, I really wanted to like this place.. I researched it and thought it'd be a great experience going here to recycle rather than the average places that have bums hanging around but honestly I'd rather go to one of those than have to encounter the rudeness as I have at granicy square. read more

My husband and I started buying our dog food here a few years back and I am glad we did. The point of purchasing from a place like this is that you are supporting the local economy and keeping a "mom and pop shop" open. If I wanted to buy cheap dog food, I would buy the bulk stuff from WinCo. I've done the math, the bag from Granicy is larger than what we were getting elsewhere for a lesser brand. It works out to only be a few dollars difference between feeding my animals something that is great for them vs. cheap processed food that upsets their stomachs. I choose to feed my dogs excellent food and I am willing to pay for it. The service is always outstanding and I like walking in and they know exactly what I am there for. I have been coming here for years, its a feed store, horses and domestic pets. Not supposed to be classified as a dog food store alone. Maybe the other reviewer doesn't really know what a feed store is. yes they do have other things that most people like to look at and purchase from time to time. Not a doggy designer store, its a feed store, get it. I have compared all their pricing with other holistic dog foods and they actually are very competitive. So if you are looking to feed your pets better than regular pet foods, including all the the holistic brands you can think of and more well this is the place for you.
