I spoke to Misaki(?), who was extremely unprofessional with her attitude, saying stuff like "these are some rules.. yada yada yada". Extremely unpleasant tone. I asked to speak with a supervisor. Was transferred to Drea(?). I asked if she was the supervisor and she said, "kind of? yeah i was sort of made a supervisor at our team meeting last week, so I guess so? So, what do you want?" I asked if this was professional, the tone and attitude she was showing. She said in a defensive tone, "what? I'm trying to help you and you won't let me help you, so how can I help you?" She continued being defensive and talked over me when I tried explaining Misaki's attitude to her, so I hung up. Absolutely unprofessional. Will not be taking our camps here. Classic old school (1970s?) bowling alley. Not too many of these around town. Cue the Big Lebowski references. Parking is available on the side streets. The place hasn't been renovated in decades. It's like stepping into a time machine. The main floor lanes are the usual 10-pin, while the upstairs level is cosmic (black light everywhere) 5-pin. There are 12 lanes on each floor. Each lane can support up to 5 players. They do sell drinks (including beer) as well as snacks such as hot dogs and chips. The venue can get a bit cramped when the space fills up. This bowling alley has retained its original charm - if you're into the vintage look. At least the music is current! 5 or 10 pin bowling available (only 3 lanes of 10 pin on the first floor). However, the person over the phone told me that they are taking walk-ins until 6pm. My friends and I hurried over around 4pm. Really a great place to bowl. They appear to have a strong following of regulars and had a surprisingly family friendly atmosphere despite the unwelcoming look of the buildings exterior. As far as bowling lanes go Vancouver has few to speak of. The only other off the top of my head is The Commodore and I'd say the bowling experience here was absolutely superior. Regular rates are reasonable but a few days a week have special rates that you should be sure to check out if it's your first time. An overall unenjoyable experience thanks to a number of issues. The place really needs to update the place to justify charging what they are right now. It was extremely difficult to have an actual game as the scoreboard consistently messed up. Added to that, balls were randomly firing backwards from the ramp, into where people were standing. This is a family-run, old-fashioned bowling alley. They've been in business since the 40s, and the decor probably hasn't changed all that much - and I do mean that in a good way. It's retro, but it's authentic retro. Downstairs, where you enter, there's ye olde snack bar and a big board of all the league players. Upstairs is the glow bowling, which costs just a bit more per game, but it's fun for parties. I'm a sucky bowler, so somehow doing it in the dark with music makes it more fun. Most of the lanes here are five-pin, which I hear is a strange concept to Americans. It's a lot easier to throw the ball in a five-pin game, if a bit harder to knock down the pins. Took my kid to have an afternoon of bowling at Grandview Lanes a place I have gone to many times over many years. Our lane kept requiring attention to reset or put up the pins. Every time we had to go down to get help. The staff blamed the computer but it got to be that we could not have a turn at all. No help was offered, no free lane just up and down to the point that we asked for our money back. The manager was quite rude and direct and clearly did not care that this was our experience. He muttered under his breathe and joked with a guy about he would rather be in Vegas. But really, it's centrally located, they ACTUALLY HAVE TEN PIN, they serve booze and the lady who runs the place is ten-thousand kinds of awesome - super helpful and funny as heck. Downstairs is your standard "normal person" bowling, where upstairs is where dreams come true. And by that I mean it's blacklight bowling with cheesy, awesome mural art. Am not much of a bowler (last time was in highschool), but still had fun at Glow Bowling! Pricing is reasonable at $5.25 per person per game. And psssst, there is a Yelp check-in offer for one free game if you purchase a second. Oh, and wear white. A couple of things in customer service that held back the stars: - The front counter lady that helped us (not the owner/manager Tammy) had a real serious stern face the whole time. Not a peep of a smile. Also was kind of impatient when explaining the pricing and confirming our Yelp check-in offers. Bowling is happy; she wasn't happy. Kind of a no-no when you're providing customer service. - We didn't want the guard rails up and asked someone at the front counter to take it down. (At this point, we didn't know this can be done really easily next to the lane, lol, like I say, we're not bowlers!) No one came up and we just carried on. An hour later, when we're 1 turn away from finishing our last game, an employee came by and said hey, you guys aren't twelve-year-olds, I'll take down the guard rails now. First floor was all taken on a Friday night by what seemed to be a Chinese middle-aged league. Our reservation was upstairs, with the black lights. I wonder who started the black light bowling thing? Anyways, they honoured my Yelp Check-In Offer (1 free game worth $5). We had a few hiccups (people were already in the lane we were told to use; the lane we were told to use instead had another party's names on the screen; they got our names on the next lane; they actually needed a few lanes together for another booking, so they moved us to another lane in the middle of a game; the pin-setting machine froze a few times), but each problem was resolved in two minutes by friendly staff, so we are willing to give them another try. We planned a team building event and decided that this venue suited our needs. Reservations were made well ahead of time, and seeing as how we had 15 people it was decided that we needed 3 lanes, with the option of calling and cancelling a lane the day of, to avoid the deposit on the third lane. I called the night before to cancel the third lane, as we were down to 11 people. The guy that I spoke to said that seeing as how I called within a reasonable amount of time we would not be charged the deposit on the third lane. Upon checking the receipts, we were in fact charged for the third lane. When I called to ask for a refund, I was told that they require 72h notice, not 24h as stated on their website, or the "day of" as I had been told. It was awesome that the staff kept refilling the water pitchers upstairs. We were supposed to stay inside but staff were nice about letting us go outside in the bowling shoes because it was so hot. That's the only negative about the place - I wish they had fans going or AC... it was like an oven in there which took away from things a bit, but otherwise it was fun!
