We went for the All-you-can-eat Wings at the Rec Room on a Monday night and we were pleasantly surprised! We got to choose from breaded or non-breaded and a few different flavours of wings like Salt & Pepper, Smokey BBQ, Sweet Heat, and Spicy Buffalo. It was about a 20-30 minute wait for the wings so we did find it a bit long. The service was average and nothing notable. But when the wings did arrive, they were served with a ranch dipping sauce and it was hot & fresh! We got a few more rounds afterwards (that didn't look or weren't plated as nicely but still tasted good) and enjoyed it a lot. It was $25 for AYCE wings but it also included a $10 credit to play any of their arcade games. That's a pretty good deal in our opinions! Fun place to spend an afternoon with friends. For those of us who have been here for a while, it's basically a Playdium and Chuck E Cheese combined. Something for everyone. Parking is plentiful in the mall lot. The place is pretty full of life. There is a large arcade with plenty of relatively modern games (most are G to PG themed), and a section for table tennis and pool. Place has a relatively loungeish feel, which is great for those in their 20s. Some kiddie games provide tickets, which can be redeemed for points. And just like a Chuck E Cheese, the ticket costs are insane. The place also has a large food section with fast food, as well as spaces for private parties. Honestly, my favourite place to go when it's raining outside and I'm looking to do something fun with a big group! Located in Brentwood mall, Rec Room is located in a very transit friendly place. It is a very big space so good for a big group! They have so many fun games, everything from VR roller coasters to mario cart simulators to pac-man! They also have two very fun photo booths. They also have pool and dance central which can be played with a large group. They very recently got a dance floor with a DJ!! And their music is pretty good :) best part is, you can carry your drinks around while playing games and listening to music. I got their cocktail tower which had about 12 shots of tequila... I can safely say it is good for 4 people or more. Their food is not that great but the highlight of this place is in their games and drinks. BONUS! Their games are super cheap!! I paid around $35 and got to play more than 7 games!! If you're looking for a fun activity to do with a big group, this is the place to be. Located inside the amazing brentwood, this hangout spot is a fun place to go play arcade games and come together with friends. I initially went because I got invited to go to one of their summer events. My favourite game was hungry hungry hippos. I also went to the bar and the dance floor as they had a DJ that for their event. The bar service was subpar and it took too long to get the bill. They also messed up my order. This is not the drink I ordered While I don't like the bar service, the other components were fun and it is an ideal spot for anyone looking for some wholesome fun. read more

This Rec Room is basically the same as the one in Calgary. Same kind of games. Food are really similar as well. This place reminds me of Pladium. Oh the long gone Pladium. It is basically a kids play paradise. The prizes here are not bad but you do need a lot of tickets for many of their items. Any prizes that look decent requires 5000 tickets or more. The prize per game is pretty decent. It cost $10 for 40 credits and each game ranges between 4 to 10 credits with many of the games at the low end. You get 2 hours free parking but you do need to get your ticket validated at the Rec Room. It is a fun place for kids to hang out. I am not too into arcade games so this place isn't really for me. read more

Rec Room is great in theory, after a long void with Playdium's departure, and was excited to finally go for an afternoon of fun. First off, there is a QR code by the front entrance where you get 2 hours of free parking at Brentwood Mall, which is a great touch as it isn't cheap to play at the Rec Room. Going on a Saturday afternoon, it was jam packed with adults and a lot of children. There were lots of stations with hand sanitizer, wipes, and face masks, which was really nice. There is also 3 different restaurants available, one with a large two level separated dining space. I hear there's Trivia night on Tuesdays at the Rec Room and would be interested to try that out one day. The bands are easy to wear and there's a cute rewards shop to exchange your game reward points, which reminds me on my old Chuck 'E Cheese days. A downside of the Rec Room is the small size of the games area. It's a long wait for some of the popular games (we gave up on the shooter type games after trying to wait for them twice) and there isn't much space to wait for the games, while human traffic is trying to make its way around. Wish that there was two levels of The Rec Room, to properly space everything out and to include more games. It appears that the design prioritized the restaurant spaces over the actual game place. My friend and I spent $50 in credits and struggled to use all the money given the line ups, small space, and limited games. I hear the Rec Room in Toronto is enormous and look forward to checking it out one day. Rec Room is also opening a new location in DT Vancouver soon and I hope the design space and layout will be much better than the one existing in Brentwood as it's a bit of a let down. read more

I've been to the Rec Room in Toronto countless times and the service has always been above 4/5 so I was a bit surprised to have this experience in BC. I have to say the main reason for my 3 star review is the service. There was a really long lineup at the bar. It was almost like a concession line instead of having multiple bartenders to tend the whole bar. The games were great and I think there may have just been 1 that was down that Friday night (although they were all rigged, kidding!! just a sore loser lol) but the service at the bar could most definitely be improved. read more

Went here with some of my friends at around 7 PM on a busy Saturday. They limit the number of the people inside. The line up was really long, that it goes all the way across. Once I got in front of the entrance, the staff asked me to show my vaccine passport and a piece of ID. It took me around 40 minute to get in. To play in this venue, you would have purchase a certain number of credits which will stored in a small card (cost $2.50) containing RFID which you can put as a wrist band. Minimum credit to purchase is 40 CR for $10, the more credit you buy, the higher the bonus. The have a lot of western arcade games, and not much games from Asia. They do have Maximum Tune, and Pump It Up, both has been translated to English. If you're looking for niche rhythm games like Jubeat or Nostalgia, it's better to stick to Espot in Richmond. Hiccup happened when we wanted to play Air Hockey, it showed "Attendant Required". When we asked the staff, they told us that the server was overloaded and all we can do is just wait till it normalise. It took about 2 min ish before we could play again. So yesterday was his birthday and he was excited to check this place out! Upon entering, a security guard will ask for your ID, to ensure you are indeed 19+. Then after, someone will stamp you before proceeding in. I informed the lady we have a reservation, where is the restaurant? She instructed it would be on the left & I would check in with them. So we entered & approached the check in desk, told my name & proceeded in, despite being 30 mins early. One of the hosts directed us to our table & we scanned the QR code for the menu. We started off with appys & drinks first while we decide what to have as our main dish. For appys, we ordered Chicken lettuce wrap (the other choice is tofu) & Loaded nachos with the cheese sauce on the side. For drinks I got Peach stop killin' my vibe, our friend got a Sunsetter beer & my fiancé got a coke...but later he got a bottled Stella since we told him he should have a drink for his birthday! While waiting for our orders to arrive, little did we know they would serve us 2 paper bags of popcorn! After receiving the appys & eating, we finally decided on our mains. I got the steak (mid-rare), my fiancé got the Lumberjack burger, and our friend got the half rack ribs. Again, let me say the food exceeded our expectations! If you've been to Dave & Buster's or ROUND1 before, that's basically what The Rec Room is -- arcade style games for children and adults. During the two hours that I was here, my friends and I played through 120 credits ($20 worth). Such a fun experience! We never felt we were short on credits, and we had a chance to play everything we wanted to try, including pool, bike racing, ATV racing, piano keys, beer pong, pinball and a shooter game. Games range anywhere from 4 credits to 12 credits. I really liked that the place never felt crowded during our time there. From what I observed, people here were very courteous of others as well, taking turns on games so everyone had a chance to play. Even parents were on their best behavior, making sure their kids weren't running around like crazy. We didn't check out the bar because we had other drinking spots planned for the evening, but that looks like an attractive option if you're planning on staying for a while. Honestly you'll either love Rec Room, or you'll hate it. I'd definitely recommend walking through the establishment to see if any of the games catch your eyes before dropping down money to purchase credits. read more

I had not been to the Rec Room before. This was my first time. I though since you needed to be 19 years old, or accompanied by an adult, it was going to be an adult based form of entertainment. Nope. Wrong. Almost all the games there are made for 5 to 10 year olds. The age requirement is only because there's alcohol served. Almost half the games were carnival games. It was quite disappointing. The website advertises themselves as a primarily adult venue. It's very misleading. On their homepage you will see a metal tray of nachos. We had it and it was not good, and it was $50. read more

Came here with a group of friends expecting your run-of-the-mill arcade, but I was amazed! The Rec Room is a legit hangout spot with restaurants, bars, snacks, and tons of modern arcade machines! Being quite new, all of them were in good condition and functioning perfectly. Not to mention, the food and drinks are quite good as well! For an arcade hangout spot, the Rec Room has blown my expectations out of the water and more - I highly recommend checking the place out, especially with a group of friends! Customer service. It was Monday(BC day holiday). They've had promo ads saying that it's $25 AYCE wings for Mondays. I called Monday morning around 11am their open time looking to reserve for 2 and confirm that their promotion is going on. Called 3-4 times hoping to talk to someone directly to make it a lot faster and easier but it went straight to voicemail. So I went online to book reservations and it checked through. So in all likelihood you'd assume it's going through because they're opened and it's Monday. I get there at booked time and told them we're here for AYCE wings. And they tell me they're not doing that today because it's a HOLIDAY!!! Even though it's still Monday(the day the promotion is on)!!!! This all could've been avoided had someone answered the phone call in the first place!!!!! Huge waste of time!!! read more

I like how they really take the covid safety regulations seriously. The Rec room hired security at the front entrance to check for vaccine QR codes on the phone and photo ID. The security guy was pretty nice about it and fast. They have additional security who walk along the place to check for people complying with face masks. One of my friend's face mask was too low and was kindly reminded to fix it. Every arcade machine was disinfected and clean after every use. The staff lady patiently waited on the side for my friend to finish a game just to disinfect the controller for the next person. The staff are friendly and explained how the token and credit system works since it was our first time. I like that you can collect and use SCENE points and, because it's owned by cineplex, you can use your cineplex gift card to pay for things. They give bonuses with their gift cards from time to time so I usually buy their gift cards anyway. I like that the token and credits are all stored on the arcade's bracelet. It's better than a lanyard neck string because you can easily scan the card using your wrist on the arcade machine. I wish there was a way to easily see your token balance and credits online or something instead of coming physically to the location. They have a pricing structure where you can get bonus credits the more you spend which is nice. (see photo on the pricing structure) I bought the most expensive tier at $50 which gives 365 credits because the bonus points offer was very enticing. It's enough for a couple visits at least. Each arcade game usually range between 4 to 8 credits per play which is plenty of plays for multiple visits. Arcade games: I'll go over a few notable ones I saw. There was one single dancing game machine called pump it up but no DDR (which i love). It was always occupied so I didn't try it this time. There was a really fun Mario Kart racing game that was always occupied with people because it's just so much fun. My friends played that game multiple times. My friends and I played the tomb raider co-op shooter and spent so many credits on it because we kept dying so fast resulting in a game over. There were plenty of other cool co-op shooter games like Jurassic Park too. There's also a cool stacking game with a hologram screen. I've never seen an invisible screen displayed like that before (see photo). We also liked the real basketball hoop game, a hot wheels slot car game, and an off brand flappy bird game. We had a blast with the old school air hockey table game. Overall, I'm slightly disappointed in the choice of arcade machines they had available. Basically the games are mostly western made mainstream games you see everywhere else. You're gonna love this place if you're not too picky in the type of games available. There are PLENTY of racecar games and TONS of those token collecting games so if you're into those kinds of things you'll have a good time here. I just wish they had more super unique and fun Japanese arcade games, or even rhythm games. They didn't even have the famous cute Japanese taiko drum game. They did have one key master game with decent prizes, but nothing really stood out though. Other then that, i'm kind of disappointed in the prizes available in the crane games. The vibe: The main area where the arcade machines are is super loud. One thing I didn't like too much was that the music was a tad too loud. Combined with the loud sounds from the arcade machines and lots of people shouting and cheering on the machines, it gets REALLY loud so you have to yell to speak to another person beside you. But maybe that's just me because I'm getting old and I don't like loud places as much as I used to. The place is pretty dark just like most typical arcade places. The place is super clean and modern looking, not grimy at all like a lot of smaller arcades. Arcade Token Prizes: They have an area dedicated to arcade token prizes. I'll go over some notable prizes. The most expensive prize i saw was a brown Michael Kors wallet purse at 60,000 tokens. Relatively speaking, the jackpot on games is usually 500-1,000 tokens so that's an astronomical amount of tokens! They also had toronto blue jay teddy bears, various little knick knack kid toys you can buy at the dollar store, retro arcade handheld games, Rec Room branded merch such as mugs, nerf guns, and medium sized plushies like my little pony and baby shark. Not too shabby! Despite all the negative things I mentioned above, I did have a good time playing some of the arcade machines at The Rec Room. Mario Kart was my favorite by a long shot. I'll definitely come back again to use up my points. I think I used up only 100 out of my 365 credits. Hopefully they'll cycle to different games and fix up the few arcade machines that were broken during my visit. Not a bad arcade to bring the whole family! 3 stars. The lettuce wraps: If I were to tape the pieces of lettuce together I think the piece would be big enough to make one decent sized wrap. Don't expect these to be the size you'd get at a Chinese restaurant or Cactus. The lettuce was so small that you can't even wrap the filling; you can even barely.fold it. These were.lettuce tortilla chips. The classic nachos: Go to 7/11, buy their nachos and top it with as much of that fake queso as possible and sprinkle them with a bunch of salt. You have to wait to play the games you want. So there were games I didn't get a chance to play because they were always busy when I came back around. I also didn't enjoy the drink offerings. I did enjoy my food-the mushroom pizza and the mushroom appi. The service was very slow. The waitress was pleasant but she can only go as fast as the bar and the kitchen. Childhood nostalgia! There are 3 access points to grab drinks and walk around: the Three10 bar, the snack stand, and the bar. Lots of seating areas and bar tables. TV's are minimal, but I guess they want you to enjoy games rather than lounge the whole time. Current promo gives you 375 credits for $50 with a VIP movie ticket. Most games average 5-9 credits. It gets busy quite fast during Fridays and weekends. We ate at Three10 bar area and you can tell they are struggling with the demand - but I'm sure they will adjust as opening has been less than a week ago. We ordered the MV Platter ($50) and a half order of ribs ($19). The ribs, while cooked well, is lacking in portion. The platter was a bit more worth it as you can choose a drink and it comes with 60 credits to play. Overall, really fun experience. The Shed is located in the new and exciting Brentwood. After tackling the parking situation, we had a little trouble finding this place (minimal direction). Once we found it, I was shocked how impressive and well laid out this place is. Luckily we had reservations because this place picks up. They have 4 main sections, restaurant, bar, arcade, and ping pong room. The menu is extensive and has so many options for everyone. I ordered that CRISPY TOFU BOWL (ginger soy tofu, fried jasmine rice, chili-pickled carrot, edamame, green beans, pickled red onion, radish, cilantro). HUGE portions and so many complimenting flavours. After lunch, we headed to the bar (thank you Leroy for the excellent service) while some of our party played arcade games. They had some restrictions due to covid but we all felt pretty safe. Perfect for big groups and having events. Loved that the bar overlooked the arcade so that parents can watch out for the kids. This place opens at 4pm to midnight, you must be 19+ or be accompanying an adult to enter (show your valid picture ID and second piece of ID) to get in. I felt like there's already a line up 15 min prior before they open is the best time to go. It's more family oriented in the beginning (from 4pm to 7pm) also the mall closes at 7pm so if you go before that time it's less busy, past 7pm it becomes more busy. By 10pm (which is when the kids accompanied by adults must leave time) to closing its busy packed with older groups of people especially on Fridays and weekends expect to wait an hour in line to get in. It's a new experience right now so it's pretty busy they also had lots of promotions in July, and less now. I think I've played most of the games and I enjoy the piano keys the most because I get most tickets from that. Shooting basketball hoops is fun but it's always busy in that area. I feel like it's hard to physical distance and there's not much space to wait for games. I don't really like the layout of the place when it gets very busy, it's not worth the wait. I also like the pump it up dancing game but it's not like DDR ( which I like the most). Also I beat the night hunter game which I think is the most worth it for experience, it's a shooter game with seats that move and wind for effects. read more

9 of us went here for my sister's birthday. Saying it was terrible is an understatement. As we were being seated, the waitress told us how it was not busy that night. Great! So you'd think the service would be good, nope! We had to get the waitresses' attention 20 minutes after being seated to order our food. The first of the tables food came 45 minutes later, one girl waited an additional 15 minutes for her food, so an hour and 20 minites after sitting down! The waitress repeatedly brought us the wrong orders over and over, insisting that was what we ordered. I tried to order more food once my first course came because the first one took so long and was told I couldn't order any more food until I finished what I had in front of me! I wish I was joking! It took over 2 hours for us to get our food and eat. In the end, we were all pretty upset that they added gratuity to our bills. A few of us tried to contest it as the service was absolutely horrendous. They refused to take it off our bills. THEN we went to play games at the arcade, over half the game machines were out of order and twice the games ate my money and didn't let me play. This review is based on the bar at the rec room. The drinks are way over priced and way too weak, Four drinks cost us $64 and then my husband paid $8 for tips, so $72. for four drinks. Theese were the drinks.... a double vodka and cranberry and a black russian (only 1 ounce of alcohol). $32.90 + $4 tip Second round was a black russian (1 0z) and a paralyzer(1 oz) $32.75 +$4tip Please explain why 2 ounces of alcohol costs the same as 3 ounces of alcohol. The paralyzer was good....it tasted like chocholate milk. So the bar is basically a huge rip off with watered down alcohol and overpriced drinks. Dont waste your money! Have a couple drinks before you go there and you'll have fun with the games. The prices on games I thought were pretty fair. read more

We came here to eat with a couple of friends. We waited 45 mins for a table which is understandable for a Saturday night. This is the second time we been to the arcade and the first time eating here. The restaurant always looks under staffed. Our waiter asked me if anyone had greeted them and I said no and she said okay great do you guys know what you want. As we had only been sitting for 5 mins or less. She forgot my friends beer later to bring it. And I ordered prawn skewers and I had to hunt her down for majority of our meal to get her to bring it. Once she did bring over the prawn skewers which came pretty much at the end of my meal. It was lukewarm cold and the shrimp smelt really fishy. It didn't make sense the food was not great or hot just lukewarm. On to the arcade it was packed and it didn't look like people were leaving any time soon. Best to come on a weeknight if you can where it's not as busy. The only complaint I have is with one of the staff managing the vr roller coaster. I asked for a yellow mask and he completely ignored me. You're suppose to put the yellow mask on for hygienic reason and it didn't look like he was cleaning inbetween people. I understand like you can do your best with high volume days to clean the games. But this equipment was going on peoples faces and the one thing you needed to put on them for protection you did not do. read more

Cool concept but the execution is flawed. We went on a Friday night, its definitely got an adult vibe but kids are allowed until 10pm and it was packed with kids and strollers. We were surprised there weren't actually very many games and the aisles were packed making it challenging to navigate. I'd say about half the games are redemption games such as skee ball, basketball toss etc. They did have some unique ones such as beer pong which was a lot of fun. Of the actual arcade games, 95% were driving games. If you like driving games then you'll be well served. Want to play pinball, galaga, Rampage or really any classic arcade game and you're out of luck. They did have a giant version of PAC Man that was fun and another of Centipede and I spotted a solitary pinball machine in a corner but if you're going expecting a vintage arcade vibe you'll be sorely dissapointed. A fair amount of games were out of order and anything half fun had a massive line to play. We hungrily circled the sole air hockey table throughout the night but it was constantly in use. Most digusting food i have ever eaten in my life. I almost threw up. The fries were soggy and cold. The funnel cake lacked flavor, tasted like cardboard. The jamaican burger was just absolutely horrible, there is no way they can call it a burger. I would rather go eat at a gas station than buy this overpriced food. *in the voice of Stefon from SNL* Vancouver's HOTTEST club right now is The Rec Room. Located at Brentwood Mall in Burnaby with art designed by the iconic Elyse Dodge, who made a big gay bridge that is leading towards this club. This place has everything, Chads, Tonys, Jessicas and Stephanies. And just when you think the fun is over HELLO a 1 hour and 45 minute just to get in, but is it worth it? I don't know her. For a better time at this prestigious club, gotta go to the bar with you and your friends for drinks and scream every time you get shots!! *Stefon review done* But really though, I was totally rooting for this place to be a better than a typical "bar" scene in Vancouver. The amount of people that were lining up, that looked like they were going to a freaking club in Vancouver (WHICH IT IS NOT). The girls were literally in little black skimpy dresses and the guys were in the typical "Branded" sweaters or like t-shirts, LIKE CAN WE NOT? And amount of people within the venue was just packed to the point it felt like Nightmarket Food area, BUT INDOORS!! For some reason, I do like SOME of the service, we were greeted at the doors with 2 people and they told us about the place, and gave us the run down for the night, and they were extremely nice. Yay for the hosts at the front door! But the host at the bar was just not a good time. She just stood there, looking at us for a good 10 minutes before asking to seat us, especially when the seating dining area was empty? I don't know what they expect us to do, for us to just wait and look at them? I am not sure if they were trained properly to greet and say hi when we walk up to them trying to look for a table... Once we got the table, the server was EXTREMELY on point though. Surprisingly she was nice, attentive and helpful for the whole night. I totally slipped her a good tip for that. And from what I heard, while in the line up, there were fights happening and people being kicked out, and I almost got into a fight with a little "girl" who wanted to cut in line with 10 friends when me and mine were already waiting for 1 hour and 30 minutes. The true authentic clubbing scene of Vancouver, YAY! I just felt claustrophobic for the rest of the night and worried that maybe an outbreak could happen there, especially it being indoors and all. Won't be going back until this stupid hype dies down. Hype for Vancouver places need to stop, because it's pulling out the worst of people. read more

Was excited to come check this place out. Made a reservation since I wasn't sure how busy they would be. We got there early and there seemed to be a number of tables available. Hostess at the entry was very confused when I said I already made a reservation, walking me over to the restaurant. She finally understood I had a reservation. We were seated right away. Restaurant was spacious, although the chairs at our table were too big and the table felt cramped. Our server was friendly but seemed as if it was her first day on the job. I'm not sure how many tables she was serving but service was extremely slow. Due to this we didn't have time to play any games as our meal took almost 2.5 hours to complete. I ordered a Caesar which was basic (and tasted rather weak...as if they forgot to put the vodka in altogether) and the crispy tofu bowl. The bowl was ok, a little salty. My friends thought their food was just ok too. I asked for a spoon and all they had were small, long dessert spoons. We were told there was a snack bar on the other side, and I think if I come back we'll forgo the meal and do that instead. When we went to pay I asked about reimbursement for parking and the waitress didn't know and said to ask by the front entrance. Unfortunately I forgot on our way out. As for scene rewards points apparently only one person per table can collect, even if you are all on separate bills. This seems silly. While the experience wasn't stellar, it is a fun and unique concept. I'll likely be back as it's a fun space to hang out with friends. Hopefully as this place stays open longer things will become more efficient and the staff will gain experience. read more

Drinks took a while to arrive at the table, drinks were served in broken glasses with comments "we will not charge you for that drink" and rarely checks on the table. If you are expecting the same quality and quantity of games that you would expect at Espot or CHQ in Vancouver you can rest easy knowing they will not be losing their place as game centers. But as a slightly more upscale downtown inspired barcade, the Rec Room serves as a challenger as it competes for the nightlife space of a world emerging from Covid. The rec room is the base of the cake for the Cineplex entertainment complex at Amazing Brentwood. A five minute walk from the sky train station takes you to the walkway where the Rec Room sits. True to the playdium roots, it is a spacious entertainment space that split itself between the loud arcade, the easy going dining lounge space and the restaurant that capture the spirit of the sports bar. Gaming wise, it is the standard lineup of Raw Thrills games, while it does have a large amount of motion sim arcade games, the light gun, rhythm and fighting game lineup is anemic and consist of the bare essentials due to the reclusive arcade licensing in Japan. It uses a card system to track your cash balance and fits well on a lanyard or wristband. Foodwise you will get Cineplex type food from the conessions as you wind down at the dining lounge which I admit is a nice way to chill after a day of work. Their corn dogs are also forgettable, being sparse in topping and flavor. I will provide an update to the three10 menu once I get an opportunity All in all, don't expect an amazing arcade but an almost perfect fit of services for the Burnaby community as Brentwood continues it's growth read more
