If you're craving real, old-school comfort food, Grandma's Recipes absolutely delivers. We both ordered the fried chicken, which takes about 25-30 minutes because it's made fresh and it shows. The batter is thin, crispy, and not overly heavy, and the flavor feels like something straight out of a home kitchen. This isn't fast-food fried chicken... this is Sunday dinner at grandma's. The meal itself is a lot of food for around $17: four pieces of chicken, real mashed potatoes with homemade gravy, a vegetable, a potato, plus a salad and a cup of homemade chicken noodle soup with those old-school egg noodles. Everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned, not processed or rushed. We also tried the fried mushrooms everyone talks about, and they lived up to the hype. They use large portobello mushrooms, which makes a huge difference. No watery, soggy bite like you get at a lot of places, just a clean, meaty texture with a crispy coating. The atmosphere is calm and cozy. Lighting is dim enough to feel relaxed, and with only about 20 tables, it's not loud or chaotic. No kids running wild or constant traffic in and out, just a laid-back, "take your time" kind of vibe. The space has a log cabin feel with exposed wood, vintage décor, and black-and-white photos. The tables and chairs aren't fancy, but they're clean and fit the nostalgic charm. Service was great during our visit. Our waitress was attentive, checked on us regularly, took our order quickly, and everything came out hot. I've seen mixed reviews about inconsistent service, but our experience (first visit) was very positive. There's also plenty of parking, which is always a win. Between the generous portions, fair pricing, and genuinely homemade feel, this is the kind of place you come back to. They also offer daily specials and make many of their own desserts. It has been awhile since I have been here -- and I finally got to take my wife for the first time. I ordered my go-to, the hot roast turkey. The turkey they use is smoked and tastes amazing! The gravy smothered over the sandwich and mashed potatoes adds even more flavor. I ordered a side of green beans with the meal, and they tasted good - not canned. The turkey club was ordered without tomato and came out as ordered - it was huge and also had the smoked turkey on it. So good! Coleslaw tasted good as did the cheese sticks. Our server was attentive and kept checking on us. She kept the drinks coming - even after we paid our bill. Love that they check on you, even after you have paid. The inside is still outdated and the seats are not the most comfortable, but that's fine. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. I need to come back here again real soon! read more

What can I say!? This place is amazing. The portion sizes are insane! The prices are great! I had the battered mushrooms which were a meal all by themselves! We also had the mozzarella sticks. The marinara is to die for. The meal comes with soup AND salad!! The homemade bread and the Johnny cakes were very good. Make sure you are hungry when you go here. This is a good place to get a good old fashioned home cooked meal with ample portions. Even though we went to eat on Friday during peak time, service was pretty fast and the friendly waitress took our orders accurately. well my husband and I went to have dinner on 1-6-2024 I was looking forward to the chicken noodle soup. A waitress stopped by with me yes asked what we wanted to drink and that was it. we waited 15 minutes or more for someone to take our order. no one came. they weren't busy so there was no reason for them not to wait on us. I am definitely not happy with Grandma's. Friday night my husband and decided to have dinner at Grandma's. We walked sat down at a table in the corner. There was a waitress that came over and talk to the table next to us ordered their desert. Then she got the people behind us order and turned it in. Never said hello never even paid us no mind. She brought the people next to us their desert and coffee. I asked her about a waitress and all she said is yeah I will be back in a few minutes. We decided that if I had to ask for service that they really don't need our business. We got up and walked out. My mom and dad when they were alive frequently visited this establishment and I know just how disappointed they would be. Just glad they are not here to see this. I've eaten at Grandma's Recipes so many times and have apparently never reviewed the restaurant. Since nearly all my visits have been for breakfast, I feel my review is best suited just for breakfast. Grandma's has a large selection of breakfast items with numerous omelette creations, pancakes and waffles, eggs with a variety of meats including a large steak and egg breakfast. You have several options just on bread alone. They have a wonderful homemade bread that is great for any meal. Additionally, they also serve hot cereals like oats and grits, something that's not easy to find in the Flint area. Service is very good even when busy. The staff are engaging and friendly and make guests feel right at home. If you're a coffee drinker, your cup is likely never to go dry. Bathrooms are bright and kept clean and there is very good access for handicapped guests. The overall experience is welcoming and worth the visit. Some may find the decor unappealing, however if you and your companions are not pretentious and have no desire to eat the decorations then you will surely enjoy Grandma's Recipes. read more

No part of me doubts that Grandma's was once a sought after establishment. It seems now that it has succumbed to the black hole that is Flint, MI. The service was possibly the worst I have yet experienced. Have you ever been in a relationship where your in-laws despised you and made no attempt at hiding it?
