We've been trying new restaurants in our area, especially non-chain places. This morning we came upon Grandma's Diner in North Raleigh. First, the service was great. Several people asked if we needed anything, how the food was, etc. The food, delicious! I ordered the #3. My eggs were cooked perfectly over medium, something many restaurants get wrong. The French toast was so good. Covered in cinnamon and powdered sugar! We both liked when the server asked how do you like your bacon cooked? Thank you! I HATE crispy bacon. It's meat. Very Good, quick service, very friendly, came around for seconds on coffee! So impressed with breakfast / lunch and overall menu. They also have a International menu, Empanadas, Arepas, Tequenos. Update: I gave this place another try and the customer service was much better. I did have a different waitress this time so that made a huge difference. The food was excellent again so kudos to the chefs!! This was my first visit, we wanted breakfast. I walk in go to the counter and say to the girl, this is my first time here do we seat ourselves? She says yes have a seat anywhere and we will find you. So I take a booth right in front of the register. It takes 10 mins for one of the girls to finally come to our table. They stood behind the counter and talked, walked past our table a couple of times, one goes to get a broom to start sweeping. I almost walked out but my 8y/o was hungry so we stayed. So one of the girls finally comes to our table, not the friendliest but whatever I was over the service at this point. The food was fantastic and that's the only reason I'm giving 3 stars and it would be the only reason I would go back. So hats off to the cooks!! The one girl with glasses was definitely running around and doing a better job than the other 3, unfortunately she wasn't our waitress. Well, I was excited to find a new breakfast place in Wake Forest as it is my favorite meal. Oh what a disappointment... wait staff very friendly & atmosphere good but the food... if you are looking for a fluffy omelette this is not the place. Flat, tough and burnt. Really bland as well for a bacon & cheese omelette. I asked for the toast to be well buttered but what they did was butter one slice (not ver well) , put the other slice on top and cut it in half. Only one slice "buttered" the other dry. Again, I really hate to leave a bad review and definitely don't hardly ever, ever do it but I'm hopeful this will help the owner and end up being productive. read more

Great new place for breakfast and lunch! Friendly service, good food. Reasonable prices. Everything is cooked fresh to order. We went in at lunch time and has a great breakfast! The french toast and pancakes were good, the potatoes were ok. We ordered egg whites scrambled with cheese - yum! My son had a egg sandwich on a croissant which was very small, so we had to order a second one. My daughter's burger was pretty small as well, but she said it was enough. My Nana is in town and it was my turn to treat her to lunch. So in between running to Walmart and sams we stopped here. I was skeptical at first, since this place used to be Andys (which was my favorite mom and pop spot) but decided to give it a chance since it was new and probably wouldn't be so heavy. We were pleasantly surprised! My nana got the #1 breakfast special- eggs, home fries, sausage and rye toast. I got a cheeseburger and fries. Wow!! It was fabulous. I always order my burgers with lettuce, mushrooms (if they have them, which they did!) and only add condiments if the burger is dry. This place knows how to make a dang good burger!! The cheese was perfectly melted!! What was even better, was it was on a potato roll!!! YUM! Potato rolls compliment a good cheeseburger!! The service was excellent! Our waitress was very friendly. The cook brought our food straight to the table. When we asked him for a refill he got us one without complaining and was super friendly!! We could smell the waffles cooking and will have to try them next time we're here! One thing that's definitely worth mentioning is the discounts. Foods that you could easily make yourself, but on those days when you are out and about or just don't feel like cooking, Grandmas is a good alternative. We were served quickly and our server came back often to ensure we were taken care of. A family run business with friendly service. Honestly I expected better. I ordered a BLT, Grilled Chicken Salad and Plantains. Although I know I could have made these things at home after receiving them I REALLY thought I could have made better at home. The salad was barely filled with little iceberg lettuce piece. The filling inside the salad came in a variety of sizes from huge to very small diced. The BLT was the most basic small sandwich. Maybe 4 piece of bacon on two basic pieces of bread, barely any mayo, and again a giant piece of iceberg. Honestly the only reason I gave it one stars was because of the plantains and the chicken on my salad. The salad was the only thing that was packaged correctly. The sandwich was wrapped in tin fold. The plantain came in a more then half empty small tin with foil on the top. I spent $17.76 and honestly it was awful. Wasn't worth the money. Like I really want my money back. Awful. Never again. Oh oh and on top of all that it took them almost an HOUR to make this basic mess. read more

I stopped in while out shopping. I haven't been to a diner in forever. I ordered the tuna melt with Swiss. Boy, was I disappointed! I couldn't even try it because it smelled so bad. They dumped cheap, oily, brown tuna on bread, slapped cheese on it and toasted it. Unfortunately the oil from the tuna saturated the bread, so the middle was soggy. If you are going to do a tuna melt, use white albacore tuna (packed in water) and make tuna salad with it. They've shown me they use cheap ingredients and make no effort. I won't be back. read more

After passing this diner almost daily, my husband and I decided to give it a try this morning. We're glad we did. My husband got Grandpa's Big Breakfast (two eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and a waffle) and ate every bite. I tucked into an empanada that was crisp, not the least bit greasy, and jam-packed with shredded chicken. You'll have to look for this place because it's hidden in an obscure shopping center. I would highly recommend cutting trees and brush which completely block this center from being seen by one of the busiest highways around, Capital Blvd. Yes, it's beside a Walmart but once again, trees and overgrown brush prohibit possible patrons from even knowing you're back there. This place serves diner food and is definitely worth a try. I had breakfast, wife had lunch. Mine was tasty (omelet) as was wife's (burger). Had brunch here today with my husband and sons. This was our first time, but wanted to support a local small business. We order $50 worth of food, and was beyond disappointed. The young lady who took our order was very kind, and they got our order out as quick as they could. However, they forgot to make my order completely, and when it arrived it was missing the toast (no big deal), no seasoning on the food, the sausage was definitely a frozen patty that you get out of a bag. My son ordered bacon, and he got 3 small pieces of bacon, that appeared to be the kind you microwave. My oldest had French toast with eggs and bacon, the French toast, more of an egg toast was the best part. My husband ordered a second cup of coffee, which never showed up to our table. I was very disappointed in today's experience. If I had to give a comparison to the food we received, it would be to the free continental breakfast at a hotel. My husband and I just had breakfast. The food was OK. My husband had the breakfast burrito and did not meet expectations. The ingredients were dry and did not blend well. I had two eggs, sausage and two pancakes. My eggs were cooked fine, sausage was OK and the pancakes were fine as well. My main complaint is the menus did not include a senior section that we would have preferred to order from since we are not big eaters. This would have saved us at least $3.00 each. I found this out while paying at the cash register where a card about 5 x 7 was spotted against a wall that posted several entrees for seniors. I asked the server why weren't we told about this while pondering our selection and there was no reply. I realize they are short handed and it appears there were only two people running the diner, maybe she thought we looked too young to be seniors (trust me no one would make that mistake) or being so short staffed she didn't think about it. I did not eat there myself, but my kids ordered from there on Friday, 12/20/19. My daughter had an arepa bowl with chicken. My daughter said it tasted disgusting and my son tasted her food as well. His food was equally disgusting as they both said. My son is usually not a picky eater and will give food a few chances. I would not have written this review, but someone needs to know that they got food poisoning from the food. No one else ate that food but them. My daughter woke up throwing up on Saturday morning, and has been throwing up ever since. My husband had to take my daughter to the emergency room at 1:30 am this morning because she was so sick and still cannot keep her food down. My son is not as bad, but he did have to leave work early yesterday because his stomach has been hurting since Saturday morning. He finally threw up when he got home. I had the #3 Eggs were very very bland, French toast was underwhelming and when the server asked how we wanted our bacon, we were pleasantly surprised only to be disappointed with their definition of "crispy" being tiny pieces of soggy bacon. My husband had the Jumbo Bacon Cheeseburger, cold soggy fries and the burger was just okay. The food took a while to come out and we were unsure about whether we were supposed to wait for the check or go up and pay. After leaving we both very sick immediately.
