Mrs. K. made this the first stop of the day in Kernersville before we set out to see museums and such in town. Her latte and my cortado were both excellent and a great start. There is a lot in front, but the free parking there is limited time. You'll want to park on the street, carefully. [Review 1185 of 2026 - 4834 in North Carolina - 26364 overall]

I do want to taste my way through their summer menu (particularly the blueberry French toast, which is a coffee drink with blueberry cold foam), but I actually asked for something off-menu, a lavender frappe with vanilla base -- if you've seen my cheers about Bitty & Beau's (miss having them right downtown WS), that's the one they named for me. They made it in no time flat (seriously, never had a beverage whipped up so quickly) and it tasted just like home.

Though I've never gotten food, there is a refrigerated area with sandwiches. The seating inside is very homey, with couches and separate rooms with tables and chairs. There are also options for purchasing local handmade items such as candles. My coffee here is always good and my daughter loved the strawberry frappe yesterday (caffeine free of course) and enjoyed the front porch sitting area. We were lucky enough to see the train pass by while we had our drinks! The staff are very friendly and chat personably with their customers while they prepare drinks! "Coffee lounge" sounds like insufferable marketing buzz, but it would actually fit this place fairly well. It also helps that the baristas here are friendly and the coffee, if not spectacular, is solid. They offer coffees, teas, refreshers, and a small selection of baked goods. While a few of the seasonal drinks looked enticing, I ultimately went with an iced salted caramel toffee crunch latte. It definitely ran sweet - I'll ask them to tone it down for future orders - but it made for a smooth sip and a welcome jolt. While you can practically trip and fall into a decent coffee shop in Winston-Salem, Melrose's look and feel help it stand out.

The barista greeted us loudly when we walked in which was good because we did not see him until we were halfway into the shop. Super friendly guy. I ordered their Carmel toffee crunch latte and my husband ordered their cold brew. The barista explained it's more like an Americano which was perfect for my husband (if you've read my coffee reviews you know my husband drinks his coffee black). Our drinks were made quickly while we looked around and after we received them we took them to go. Both drinks were very well made. Latte wasn't overly sweet and husband said it was a good Americano. We will return to try some of their other menu items.

There isn't a ton of seating, but enough you can sit and rest while you wait on your drink, or chat quickly with a friend. It's definitely not a shop to sit and stay a while. The baristas were so helpful in listening to what I wanted (and knew I liked at other coffee shops) and they rang me up. It was only a minute later and my drink was ready to go! I came back a few times that week and have been by every morning this week. Turns out my favorite drink is called Lissa's Lucious Latte and I prefer mine iced with no whipped cream nor cold foam. They have a rewards card that is free and you can scan it each time or download the app and scan it each visit. It also houses their menu which is extensive. My favorite part is the drive-through.
