First thing is service, almost zero! We got sat down and that was it, zero service for 15mins, we raised our hands but ignored. Very disappointed, finally got some attention after 25mins later. It's seems nice they have sodas and sugary drinks included, even have Hawaiian fake fruit flavor drinks but as mentioned there are enough sugar in each of the drinks to give diabetes x2 After another 20 mins of wait time, some of food ordered finally shows up, all the appetizers items are either ranch 99 freezer special or from Weee. Their salivating chicken taste awful, it's just hot sauce over Mojave dessert chicken. Jellyfish is super salty. Meat quality is poor and scarce. We ordered 2 soup base pepper pork stomach and tomato. The pepper pork stomach has chicken, taste average. The tomato base soup is disgusting, taste like sweet and sour sauce. They do have plenty of sauces and condiments for dipping, steam rice and rice porridge is also available. Since we are slow eaters we can only go 2 rounds. The other problem is quantity of item is at discretion, we ordered raw eggs for 4, got 1. Wontons and dumpling 2 small pieces each. The worst part of the dinning experience is we ordered our food within 90 mins limit and wanted to get hot tea refill and my son wanted 1 more drink before dinner ends. We were told we exceed 90mins . Which is fine but to be fair, it's for a kid and how much is soda in bulk cost ? We did try out the ice-cream in the end, which is conveniently located by the entrance where brisk wind are blowing right in. They have 4 flavors, I have to say it's the blandest ice-cream ever, there are zero flavors only food coloring. We put it back down quick since it taste awful. I don't think we will be going back again, there are no service, poor quality meat, lack of quantity when needed not to mention cleanliness is another issue. Yes, it is a little pricey, but there is a great selection especially for the town of Pacifica. First time and what a nice surprise. This is a 2 for 1 place, hot pot and karaoke. We all enjoyed the lunch menu @ $24. If you go for dinner, plan on $34. AYCE, means you can choose amongst a variety of options that include meat and vegetables and everything in between. There are also different soup stock options as each hot pot can accommodate up to 2 different soups. Drinks (non alcoholic) are also included and there is a wide selection from the refrigerator. Amongst our group, we drank enough free drinks to cover one persons meal. For lunch, dessert is a AYCE scoop(s) of your own ice cream that includes mango, red bean, green tea, and sesame flavors. All flavors were tasty. Every item tasted and appeared fresh, vegetables were a solid green and firm in texture. Meat portions were plentiful and a few orders can easily fill you up. Other proteins include tofu, mussels and clams. You can also add in different noodle types. Lastly, there is a make your own dipping sauce station. This happens to be a very popular place in Pacifica. You wouldn't think people would come for hot pot here but they always have a decent crowd and on weekends, they have to bring out more booths to accommodate the extra crowds. These people can slap together a booth in under 3 minutes so the wait is never long for seating! There's also a good mix of patrons -- from first timers to hotpot hoppers, even straight up Cantonese speakers and I can attest that this place is legit! First impressions of the menu is simply WOW! A great amount of selection for a really good price of $18.99 per adult, any day of the week. We checked off a bunch of things on the menu and everything tasted like the real deal, without needing to drown it in sauce. Most impressive was surprisingly their fried spring rolls -- I know I should lose my Asian card for saying this!! But seriously, I asked for 3 orders of this and crab Rangoon! Omg what kind of Asian am I... I also highly recommend their XLBs which is code for steamed Shanghai dumplings -- aka soup dumplings that's all the rage now in the city. Even Trader Joe's jumped on this band wagon with their own frozen ones. Since this was our first time here, we went with the classic soup base of halt&half (original + spicy) but they have a really large selection of soup bases. There's so much flavor in this soup base so I didn't need to create any dipping sauces of my own. You can definitely smell the flavor as soon as they bring out the piping hot soup base that you'll be cooking from. Their price also includes free drinks so be sure to try something new! Even though it was typical Pacifica weather, outdoor seating was pleasant. Service is pretty fast but they only have 2 waitresses handling any given amount of diners so if you come during peak hours, you'll have to do more flagging and reminding. A couple of negatives I noticed was that you really need to double check what you order. Some things they just don't carry for that day so even though you checked it off on the menu, they won't tell you that they don't have it -- they just won't ever bring it to you. With all the dishes that were crowding out table, I just didn't notice until I got home to post this review. Another thing I didn't double check was pricing for kiddo who is only 10 but we were charged for 3 adults. These are 2 big negatives. Lastly, be sure to try some ice cream as your dessert. When we got there, we had to wait around 15-20 minutes for a table. It was pretty packed in there. We had the house original, house spicy, spicy miso, and chinese herb broths. For 6 people, we had two pots split into two different broths. The chinese herb chicken broth tasted very similar to the house special. The spicy miso was pretty spicy, but the house spicy was pretty unbearable for all of us. It was wayy too spicy. The meats were pretty good, we tried the wagyu and supreme beef. We were only able to order the wagyu once though :( The shell scallop was also very good and you can eat it raw! It is also one per person though :( Another item that stood out to us was the honey prawns! (they did not include any walnuts) This dish is usually pretty pricey at chinese restaurants, so we were surprised to find this item on the menu AND it was good. I also really enjoyed the scoop it yourself ice cream! There were fruity/sorbet flavors - mango/lychee which I thought was pretty good, especially for a ayce place. They gave us three hours, but we stayed almost 4 hours and we were only charged the normal price. The food was amazing so many options. The appetizers are included in the price. Mango soju was so good! The service was slow after they delivered our food. I had to give them my order by walking to server station. The karaoke songs are limited for English. Grand Hotpot is a new addition to Manor Plaza in Pacifica. The dining area is bright, spacious, and open so you can eat comfortably. It's reasonably priced, $27.99 for AYCE, which includes drinks (even alcoholic drinks such as Sapporo, Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Sake). This was our first time dining here and I had some expectations as my bro. and sis in-law said it was their new favorite spot. Having eaten hot pot all my life and trying different hot pot spots, I think I've been spoiled. Two things I'm particular on is broth and dipping sauces - even if the soup base is good, I still like the option to have a good dipping sauce to pair with shrimp paste, meats, etc. Drinks, ice cream, and sauces are self-serve. I love that you can create your own sauce. Some of the items at the sauce bar include satay, sesame oil, house made chili sauce, Sriracha, peanut sauce, spicy chili oil, minced ginger, etc. Minced garlic seems to be a staple at many hot pot places so I was disappointed it wasn't offered here. The menu is two pages and covers a variety of meats, seafood, special items (e.g. honey glazed prawns), snacks, and desserts. However, it also seems to be missing some staples like spinach and shiitake mushrooms. For the broth, we ordered spicy miso and house satay. I do have to agree with my bro that the broth was flavorful even after the waiters refilled it with water/regular broth as time went on. Quality wise, everything was fresh! However, I'd steer clear of the ice cream as it tasted gummy and like freezer burn. Service was good as the waiters were attentive. I didn't pay the bill but on the menu, it states there's an extra $5 per person charge for the rooms. Per person was about $30 just to dine. The food was decent with good service. We stopped into Grand Hot Pot as a quick dinner fix on a Saturday night. We intended on going to Top Pot across the street, but needed to be seated quicker than an hour and a half. 20 minute wait for a Saturday night wasn't too bad! A few things that stood out here were the unlimited drink bar that featured several different Asian fruit juices (see my picture). This was pretty cool since I've never seen that at hot pot before! There was also an ice cream bar. Both of these are included in the AYCE dinner price ($30.99). Hot pot was average, soup bases were solid. I didn't really like the Tom yum as the flavor wasn't really there. The add ons for the soup were okay, beef came out frozen. The service here is what took my rating down several notches. From being seated, it took us 20-30 minutes to place an order and another 20 minutes for anything else we needed from there on out (adding more orders, getting water, even asking for the check). Not to mention, you can only place 1 order of a food per order placed. So if you want two plates of beef, you have to wait for that first plate to come out, then you can order another one with the waitress. From a business perspective, this makes sense to reduce food waste. But as a customer, I was frustrated to say the least. We only placed two rounds of orders in at the end of it all, which isn't really worth it for AYCE. For the price, you can definitely find somewhere with tastier food and quicker service to get hot pot at! If you're in the area, I would opt for Top Pot instead because their service and food is better in my opinion! read more

Grand HotPot is exactly what it is: Grand!! We came here during dinner time, with our group of 18 people. We opted out for the karaoke room, which was huge!! Coming here on a Saturday night, it was pretty busy so service was slow. Thankfully, there's a call button against the door so they're able to attend to your needs when you press on the button. With the menu, it's really easy since all you do is just put a check mark on what you want. The staff there will adjust and give you the right amount based on how many people you have. At the same time, it's really annoying since I prefer to put numbers instead. They bring whatever you ordered to all of to the rest of the tables. For example, one table ordered lotus root while the second table did not. In my case.. someone from the other table ordered all the different kinds of meatballs. We were definitely charged for it :( Including that, this sort of method causes food waste very easily. Quality wise, the food was great. I enjoyed everything! Vegetables were fresher and washed as well. The Honey Walnut Shrimp was tasty and I recommend that even though they specialize in hotpot. I was iffy about their sashimi and raw scallop but it tasted fine. But if you have any doubt, I wouldn't risk it. With their broth, we got their Half and Half. I couldn't really taste anything from their Spicy broth l. All I tasted was death since it was REALLY REALLY spicy. With their Original broth, it was tasty. Not too strong and not too weak. It was totally sufficient for us since we could split the pots into two broths. The food was great and all you can eat. They had a nice variety of hot pot items including premium meat cuts. We were able to order off the a la carte dinner menu as well, which included honey walnut prawns, tempura, XLB, etc. I thought that the whole karaoke + hot pot experience was the most ingenious way of hosting a party! I had a blast and was highly entertained while eating my food. Probably also helped that the soju was flowing. Although we found it a bit challenging to navigate the karaoke system, we managed to find some top 40 hip hop and pop songs in English. Lastly, service was OK. When it comes to hot pot, I'm a relative novice as I've only had it a couple times at a friend's house. My friend was having his birthday celebration at Grand Hotpot, which billed itself as the largest hot pot and karaoke restaurant in the Bay Area. This was going to be an adventurous meal for me. The restaurant in located in a mall anchored by a Safeway and parking was easy. The restaurant has a main dining room and several private rooms with karaoke set-up. Our party of 11 was in one of these rooms, which had four round tables in the center with seating along the walls. Our host dines here and guided us in ordering our food. We selected the soup base and then he suggested the meats, meat balls, seafood, shrimp paste, vegetables, noodles and tofu/mushrooms and took count and placed the order with the waitress. To start, he ordered some appetizer, which are included in the hot pot meal, such as tempura, green onion pancakes, steamed Shanghai dumplings, seaweed salad, crab meat rangoons and honey walnut prawns. Since this was an AYCE set-up, he said we can order more food anytime. As we were enjoying our appetizers, the plates of food arrived and we started to put a combination of different items into our pot of house original broth that was sitting on the burner on our table. In hotpot, you cook your food in the broth and then eat it with the seasoned sauce that you create to your liking. We shared a hot pot for every three people. Drinks are included and the non-alcoholic drinks, teas, soy milk and sodas are self-service from the refrigerator in the main dining room. Beer is ordered from the waitress. Dessert items of mango pudding, guiling gao, and red bean, lychee, mango and sesame ice cream. The ice cream is self-service in the main room. I can see why this hot pot restaurant is billed the largest in the Bay Area. So many food selections and it's AYCE eat and drink at $21.99 per person for lunch, $30.99 for dinner and $35.99 for the private room. When I make that turn down Highway 1, I'm normally a good ten to fifteen minutes away from my destination. In the '80's and '90's, there were only three places on my radar going this way: a. scenic Sunday buffet brunch spot facing the Pacific, b. old time crab sandwich and seafood place just across the street, or c. famous BBQ place in a train boxcar. Well, on a recent Saturday, a friend's birthday lunch was hosted at this relatively new restaurant in the heart of downtown Pacifica. It was a bit of a challenger for the unfamiliar to find the correct entrance to reach this mall restaurant. There is a medium sized dining room and, to the right, there is a long hallway to access a number of private rooms. I must admit my apprehension in dining here under the present circumstances but I decided to make the best of the situation. Since the host and his family were the only experienced diners, we entrusted them to craft our meal with the exception of particular uncooked food items that were requested. We were relatively close to the kitchen so it gave me a welcome exercise of walking to the serving station to ask for their assistance. How do you hot pot properly without a sauce bar? To be fair, the options on the menu weren't bad, and there was an entire refrigerator of a variety of canned beverages including Mr. Brown coffee and legit canned soy drinks from Taiwan. There was a meat option (fatty beef I believe) that we struggled to chew due to the thick cut of the meat. We enjoyed the pea shoots on the dinner-only menu, and the service was good. The underwhelming quality of food and lack of sauces (besides soy sauce, peanut sauce, and sacha sauce) were quite disappointing. read more
