There are some dishes that are good here and for the price you can't beat that. If you drink hot tea just make your own from the tea bags and hot water they have. They have pre made hot tea but it's super weak it tastes mostly like just hot water and a hint of tea flavor. They clean the tables quickly. Every time I came back from the buffet my old plate was already gone. They seem to keep a close eye on the dishes since they're replenished when needed. The temperature in the place was super hot. I'm always cold in restaurants that I always bring a sweater with me. So when I say it's hot it really is hot. The bussers are polite. read more

This restaurant is always clean. The food is fresh and always replenished. I try to go about once a week and i really enjoy it every time. Been going about five years and I believe they have been here for seven years now. The beverages are included in the price which is great. Before 3:30 is still lunch and is about $2.00 cheaper than the dinner.and at dinner they put out ribs and a beef roast. As of now Dec. 2009 I believe lunch is $7.20 and dinner is $9.20 but don't hold me to that. Just use it as an estimate. I have eaten at all times of day there, from 11a.m. and once I went at 9p.m.. When i went at 9, they were closing at 9:30 but made up some General Tso chicken just for me per my request as that was almost empty on the buffet. Of all the MANY Chinese buffets I have tried all over Chicagoland, this one is my favorite, hands down. Wide variety and they keep it refreshed. They are not afraid to put good lean meat and shrimp in the dishes either! The veggies are not over cooked. Usually you can find coupons at www.couponclipper.com too, so you can save 15% on dinner and a buck on lunch. Quite a good deal! The only bad thing I have discovered is the Air Conditioning coverage is somewhat spotty. Been there twice. First time, food was barely edible. Second time, went at 8:00pm....they close at 9:30. Won't go back. We weren't offered a discount for poor quality food and the many items that were COLD. Even saw the bleached hair cook take a bin to the kitchen and eat from it while walking away! This is, by far, my favorite buffet that I've ever been too. They have wide selection of all different types of foods, but it's not the place to go if you're watching your weight! They do have a salad bar though. The sweet n sour chicken is amazing, so is the pizza, and roasted potatoes, fried shrimp and fish! They also have these little fried bun things that are like doughnuts coated in sugar, I ALWAYS make sure to get one when I go there :) The dessert table isn't so great, but they do have some good soft serve ice cream. It's about $9 a plate if you dine in, but if you get a plate to go they weigh it and it's SO much cheaper, like $3!! Only 4 stars because the bathrooms aren't very clean and you have to get and refill your own drinks, they don't serve you your drinks anymore. read more

went here a couple of days ago, and the only thing i managed to like was the stuff they didnt have to cook like their hawaiian salad and chocolate pudding. their chinese food was awful! their chicken was overcooked and it tasted a bit like shrimp. the staff was nice but im definitely never coming back again. of course, i wasnt expecting too much from a buffet, but i still wanted decency. i didnt get that here. read more

This is my family's favorite restaurant. There is so much food to eat. It's all delicious, tasty, and yummy!!! We came every weekend since the restaurant opened. The price is cheap and the food is great. I would recommend everyone to at least try. read more

Grand Buffet in McHenry is a decent Buffet overall. It is kept relatively clean and has some nice interior paintings. The price is much better for lunch that it is for the dinner rush. I would suggest going either early when they first open between 11 and 1 p.m., or at around 4 to 5 o'clock as this seems to be when their food is prepared the freshest on a daily basis for the morning and dinner rush. Their General Tso Chicken isnt very good, but i would suggest the Beijing Chicken if you're looking for spice. As far as chinese buffet items go, this one has all the hallmark staples. A nice touch that they do have is an ice cream machine that doesnt cost extra. They also have table service for dinner hours(they bring you your drinks as opposed to walking the extra 25 feet), and are constantly clearing plates so you dont have to wonder how long you'll have to look at that empty plate. Ok so here's the deal with this place: the food is absolutely terrible unless you come on a Friday or Saturday night. When we first came here it was indeed a Friday, and my fiancé and I thought we had found the best Chinese buffet ever. All the food was fresh and steaming, plenty of variety of dishes to choose from, everyone left happy. The next time we came was a tuesday and OMFG it was sooooo so so bad. Everything was cold and old, except for the sweet n sour chicken which probably gets replenished often no matter the day. You could tell that instead of replacing the very old and stale food they opt to just throw the fresh on top and mix it in, most dishes they don't even do that, it's just all bad. You might be eating some beef and broccoli, thinking it's decent, only to have your next bite be tough, stale and overcooked. I can understand their flow of customers is much lower on weekdays and they need to stop loss but this is just ridiculously bad. Also they will eyeball you if you get your own drink or ice cream, I don't really know why. So yeah, if you're looking for a good china buffet on a Friday or Saturday, this place is good as any. My son and I frequent China Buffet in McHenry and enjoy it very much. Usually, the food is fresh, hot and very tasty. There is a great salad bar, desert bar, mexican fare, two types of rice, chinese noodles, three soups and lots of chinese dishes. There are several shrimp dishes, vegetable dishes, crab ragot, and chinese rolls. Beverages are included. For the amount of food you can eat and the variety, the price is very good. There is an incredible selection of well prepared food for a very moderate price (about $11 with drink including tax as of nov. 7 2016 for the luncheon buffet). Went last night at about 6 pm. Tuesday. We've gone to this buffet many times and the last number of times the food continues to get bad. Small amounts left out , cold, out of some items and when asked if more is coming, smart remark from kitchen worker. I have decided that it is no longer worth the money. Bad food poor service. Since moving here from California I was uneasy about trying a new Buffet place. But the interior is welcoming, the staff leaves me alone so I can eat in peace, and the selection is AWESOME! It is a bit on the loud side, but with food like that and a terrific array of food and desserts it's well worth it. The price is what tops things off. Cheap eats for even the tighest budget! read more
