This new market just south of Calgary is absolutely fantastic from a park with kids to play in too I've Market with many vendors at a restaurant Above This Market checks all of the boxes you're looking for. Like a taste of the West Coast securely and nestled in the foothills of South western Alberta

Nice market area with a great selection of crafts, artisanal foods and lunch stalls. Great activity areas for kids on a sunny day

Few standout vendors. Park seems interesting for kids, but would like to see more traditional farm-to-table produce vendors.

Review Highlights - Granary Road

I wasn't too sure what we were getting into when making the drive west of Calgary and through the rolling hills to Granary Road.

Terrible experience with this company…read more We thought we'd try out their summer day camp program and deeply regret it. We are so relieved they didn't have enough registrants that they had to cancel the fourth day of camp we originally had our child registered for! Staff told me that lunch was included for day camp, it wasn't - I don't mind - I actually thought it was obscure they would tell me this. Coaches are poorly trained in general - very unsafe with the kids- they don't notice when kids push or trample on others in competitive games and as a result - children are injured, my child had to notify the coach she was hurt - and no phone call to parents to inform them of said injuries! The coaches are also unwilling to help children who don't have any gymnastics experience, telling children to "figure it out for themselves" Clearly the employees are miserable at their job just based on their grumpy facial expressions, no smiles upon arrival during check in, the responses they give children and their lack of regard overall The owner and staff accused my child of lying about their experiences at the camp It's pretty obvious the owner has received negative feedback on her establishment previously because she relies heavily on "footage from her security camera" to back her story up and prefers to blame the children and call them liars as opposed to just supporting children, accepting honest feedback and resolving the problem. Why would and how could a child make up these stories of how they were treated or injured themselves? Why would she deliberately hurt herself? Additionally- no air conditioning- so the children are doing physical activity all day indoors during an August heatwave. Equipment needs upgrading, facility is dilapidated and outdated, it's a garage with mats, cluttered and disorganized, looks unprofessional No signage whatsoever, so we couldn't find the entrance to the building because they had their front door propped open (which is the only place they have a small sign lol) I don't recommend this place to anyone, in fact I strongly recommend avoiding it! Please don't waste your money - and save yourself the headache so that you don't have to deal with the owner or staff- it was absolutely mind numbing - several minutes of my life I'll never get back but most importantly my child got injured and didn't have a good time

The day before the lady notified me that the event was going to be cancelled because of the group cancellation. I was really surprised to find out later that they actually had a birthday party on that night. I would totally understand if she would be honest with me and asked me to reschedule my reservation but I don't appreciate to be lied to. Especially that I tried to help them by promoting their event on my son's school Facebook page. Very disappointed by business ethics of the owner. Will not recommend since you never know if they decide to bump you for some reason.

Some things you should know before you book your kids for a day camp:…read more -they watch a movie (or part of a movie) during lunch break. -the website talks about all the exciting and expensive mediums they may use (ceramics, glass, canvas etc...). Depending on the day you go, your kids may just use things like sketching (in their own, brought-from-home sketch books) in watercolours and acrylics or painting rocks etc.. If you go on a day that they use these cheaper and more accessible materials you may feel like you didn't get good value for money. -on the day my kids went, numbers were low and there was just one staff member present (which is fine). However, that staff member then had to divide her time between the kids and answering the phones and doing her office work (!). -the rocks the kids painted were picked up (stolen?) from the shopping area close by. I don't like to encourage my kids to take landscaping rocks that belong to other businesses. Overall, the camp is fine - good even. But you will want to go in knowing these things. Also, they spend time outdoors playing (which is excellent for health and I fully support this - but it is also a very cheap way for a business owner to fill camp time). As others have mentioned in other online reviews, the owner is very proud of her experience at Glenbow, her art training, and her connections to elite Calgary schools. Customer service may not be her strongest suit. Some time ago, I booked a mother-daughter art date and the studio was closed even thought we had a booking. Went to Colour Me Mine at Aspen as a last minute alternative and had a great time. I like to support local businesses but I'm wondering if they may need to tweak a few things if they want to be successful in this community.

Where do I begin? We had our daughter's 4th birthday party with Horsin Around. Thankfully after my…read more9 emails with the owner Ron Thornhill they finally updated their website after our event. When we were booking on the website it showed an indoor venue with an indoor space to have birthday cake. Several bouncy castles, a foosball table, animals indoors for petting, ponies being ridden indoors etc. We were extremely shocked to find out nothing was indoors at the birthday party and there was nowhere to warm up or heat lamps. This was on October 27th and there was snow outside!! We had planned for an indoor event along with all of the other parents. Nowhere was it listed on the website indicates nowhere that everything would be outside and none of the pictures listed the indoor stuff as the "old location" This would have been extremely useful information given the weather and also I probably wouldn't have booked. With the cold weather and zero information on this being all outside I had a little girl crying and other guests cold. As you can imagine cold toddlers does not make for a happy time. Then I move onto the fact the "petting zoo" This is how it is defined in the Oxford Dictionary: Petting Zoo- a zoo at which visitors, especially children, may handle and feed the animals. There was no petting zoo but rather animals in a pen that the kids hot to reach through a fence to pet those within reach...some petting zoo and again not what was on the website. Highly misleading. Don't worry Ron kindly mentioned to me that they butcher several of the animals after they have served their purpose (which I really didn't need to know) he also said that their new petting zoo was just reaching through bars to touch the animals (if the animals bothered to wonder near in there large outdoor pen.) Then came the family with three kids whom were not our guests and I told them this was a private event of a birthday party and to speak with the staff about when to come back to ride the horses. Well after speaking to the volunteers.... they then proceeded to go on the bouncy castles and pony rides...though I don't recall having random people intrude on a birthday party something that I should be happy about. I am beyond disappointed and this is not at all the birthday party I had planned. I absolutely feel misled. Thanks, Ron for updating your website post our lengthy conversation also thanks for thinking offering a $100 discount to be applied to your summer riding camp, would somehow interest me on wanting to give you more money. Avoid this place at all costs as the owner literally does not care and has zero customer service.

In the same end of town as Spruce Meadows there's a small horse farm/ranch on the edge of the city…read morewhich offers horse and pony camps, riding lessons, three types of birthday parties, and 45-minute long trail rides. I took my family out for a trail ride, and for about $100 the three of us got to enjoy the wonder of horse-back riding again. The last time we went was on a ranch near Canmore for about twice as much money, but we didn't want to travel so far. We'd like to make it more of a regular thing. The weather was initially about 15 degrees, but dropped a touch and started raining a bit on our way back. The single path that wound through a couple fields and up and down some small hills was a little muddy and the horses slipped a little bit. There were 6 of us riders, plus the leader who tried to keep us from wandering off or stopping too long and letting our horses eat the bushes. At the very beginning we received a little tutorial on how to sit and how to steer the horse and make it stop. One of the riders kept pulling back on the reins after the horse stopped and it went backwards in a loop. He wanted that to stop so he pulled back on the reins some more. We were clearly a novice group. I had my helmet on backwards.(Helmets are mandatory for kids, but only recommended for adults.) The horses were lovely animals, trained very well, easy to work with, although mine was a little prone to looking at the tempting empty field and my wife's horse was a bit of a chow hound. The staff were awesome. All summer they offer pony camps for kids 4-7 and horse camps for kids 8 and over. Birthday parties include pony/horse rides, wagon rides, petting zoo, and a barbecue. If you don't want any of that you can get a day pass that gets you all that fun stuff (except the trail rides and lessons). (Also, Google Maps thinks this is in Priddis, but it's not. It's on the edge of Calgary.)
