They assigned us to our horses and gave us instructions on how to direct our horses and hold the reigns. I'm a first time horse rider and was nervous, but once we started I got more comfortable and enjoyed it! The trail was a little muddy and goes up and down hills but it's amazing to see what these horses can do. The views were breathtaking and the weather was perfect. Chloe, our leader on the ride, was great. I appreciated that she made sure to have us stop for photos. I would definitely come back. Your butt might be sore afterwards :)

Made a visit to Griffin Valley Ranch for a one hour trail ride on a beautiful Sunday afternoon…read more We were given a short lesson on how to handle the horses and then lead to the horse chosen for our specific size/weight/experience. Griffin Valley is set on some of the most beautiful property, about 15 kms outside of Cochrane. Our ride was easy and relaxing. The staff made sure to check in with everyone from time to time and chat with us or answer any questions we had. It's perfect for the person who has no riding experience, as the horses are extremely well trained. No need to worry about them getting out of hand, which lets you enjoy the scenery around you. They do let the more experienced riders take horses out for unguided trail rides as well, and offer sleigh rides in the winter. The map used to get there was from their website. DO NOT use Google maps, you will definitely get lost. The long winding road up to the Ranch is long, and you will feel like it takes forever to get there. Its worth it though!

And man these horses are beautiful, nicely groomed and just amazingly soft. These aren't your trail horses, these are international stars! The grounds were pretty empty when we went but its a pretty nice place. Not much was open, one restaurant pretty deep in. And not a lot of places to get away from the sun either, but you should expect that for an outdoor jumping facility. I would definitely come again to hopefully see some jumping.

Our hopes were shattered when we found they WEREN'T OPEN, now I know I know, "But Alex they need to see their families on Christmas". Yes they do but they can keep the gates on and turn on the lights so other families can enjoy Christmas with a colourful light show. This was incredibly disappointing and I expected better of Spruce Meadows.

I had an amazing week with them horseback riding, white water rafting, biking, hiking, visiting a dog sled camp and taking an ice walk. Every detail I could think of was taken care of and every question I had answered! Heather and Katrina were SO much fun and so knowledgeable! They made the week come alive with their stories about each and every area we visited. In a world where customer service is sometimes lacking, the level of professionalism shown by this agency and the guides it supplies is beyond reproach. Kirsten was just fantastic with the girls and she brought everything we needed including aprons and tablecloths to minimize the mess. The birthday girl got to choose her sculpture ahead of time (a dragon) and then she brought a variety of other sculptures (penguins, hedgehogs, shark piggy bank, owl piggybank, pegasus, flower purse and others). The birthday girl also got to use the pottery wheel which resulted in much hilarity! The girls had a great time and it was so neat to see their different interpretations of the same sculptures! I definitely recommend booking them for a party. They have many different age options from preschoolers to adult parties.
