I recently got married at Hive Gallery, and words cannot express how wonderful the experience was…read more Cheryl and the rest of the crew went above and beyond to make sure the day was absolutely perfect. Everything that I envisioned for the day was carried out perfectly, from the photo booth that was set up for us to the room where kids could hang out and watch Netflix. We opted to have the ceremony outside on their large balcony, and it was truly a beautiful setup, with flowers entwined over an archway above us and the mountains surrounding us. Cheryl was even so kind as to record the whole ceremony for us, as my husband's family was unable to attend, so we will have a very special piece of the day to share with them when we go visit. The staff took care of all the decor based on inspiration photos that I had provided and assembled floral bouquets for all the tables, which were absolutely beautiful. The food, which was provided by Cornerstone Catering, was delicious... the best creme brûlée I've ever had! And when it came time for dancing, the tables were moved away, the disco lights came on, and their very talented DJ went to work, playing songs that kept the dance floor busy all night! I received so many complements from people who attended, telling me how beautiful the venue and the ceremony/reception were. I would not change anything about the day, as it was executed perfectly. Thank you to the staff at Hive Gallery for making my wedding day so magical!

My wedding reception was recently hosted at the Hive. I am writing this review to provide feedback…read moreto others considering the same, and to experience some sort of catharsis after an overall awful experience on what should have been a happy day. I have never felt so belittled, disregarded, and demeaned in a professional relationship. Before I provide insight into my negative experiences, I should recognize areas where the Hive excelled. The Hive is a beautiful facility with an interesting layout that lends itself well to smaller groups hosting events. The art work is top notch, and the décor of the wedding itself was put together beautifully. Staff members worked hard to choose, create, and set up flower arrangements and accommodate color selections. Staff members accommodated our guests with specific food restrictions, and ordered/picked up 2 meals from a local restaurant. This was going above and beyond as I expected needing to ask a family member to do this. The Hive hired an exceptional bartender to work the main bar. I had nothing but positive interactions with her and received good feedback from our guests. I will also say that our guests largely had a good time, enjoyed the venue, and had fun with the adult paint room. The Hive agreed to set up a photo booth with short notice (although this only required setting up a small digital camera on a tripod, securing a black sheet over a wall, and placing props I had already purchased on tables/hooks). The Hive was also good at adding small touches, such as placing blankets on the backs of chairs of outdoor guests for comfort. I realize my review is lengthy. In this case, the length is directly proportional to the level of difficulty we had in planning the wedding with the Hive. Due to character restrictions on Yelp, I cannot post my entire review here. I urge you to read the full thing on Trip Advisor (https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Attraction_Review-g181727-d9765610-Reviews-The_Hive_Gallery_Gatherings-Canmore_Kananaskis_Country_Alberta.html). If you do not have time, I will briefly sum up my experience. From the onset, there were communication issues. Complete information was not always provided; contradiction and inconsistency were instead the standard. I felt that the process was poorly organized and scattered. Major changes were proposed to our program, and contracts with the caterer as many as 5 days, and as little as 1 day before the wedding. Arrangements were not carried out as requested and agreed upon. I urge you to visit the Trip Advisor review for an abundance of concrete examples of my experiences.

WORST VENUE EVER! Do NOT book your wedding here, unless you want to be severely saddened and…read moredisappointed with the outcome! Janet, single-handedly, ruined many aspects of our big day due to her severe negligence and lack of care for her job! It is extremely obvious that she has zero interest in good hospitality, and cares more about making a quick buck. She should get out of this business as soon as possible as she is not cut-out for hosting events, especially weddings! I should have listened to my gut, and all the negative reviews online, however I was so deadest on the appeal/esthetics of the venue. There are MULTIPLE bad reviews online about Janet/the ranch, but I ignored them, thinking those were just 'one offs'... Nope! That's how she operates! It has been extremely difficult dealing with her right from the very start! From attempting to arrange a venue visit, to her constantly changing her demands, there was no way to make her happy! She gave us a giant list of rules and expectations, all of which we abided by 110%, however none of the expectations applied to her/her staff. She will charge you for absolutely everything. You want water for your guests on your dinner tables? That's an extra $75. You want salt & pepper on the tables? Yup, you guessed it... Add $75! If you want to bring your own, she will try to charge you for that too! If that weren't bad enough... on the day of, she ran around on a rampage snapping at vendors and guests! She even had the audacity to jump in front of my wedding photographer right in the MIDDLE of the JOP pronouncing us Husband and Wife, and caused the photographer to completely miss our first kiss. She was rude and abrasive with all of my vendors; even so much as trying to tell my DJ to change the music because she didn't like it (however all radio edits were being used). The working conditions that my coordinator had to work in, and subsequently all my guests endured was completely unacceptable, and embarrassing! She failed to provide services that were promised to us, causing much embarrassment and financial loss on our end as a fall-out. She was informed of our issues after the wedding, and did not even offer so much as an acknowledgement or even an apology for what happened or her contributions. Do NOT support the Kananaskis Guest Ranch or their Golf Course in any capacity! It had snowed the night before my wedding. Temperatures on day of the wedding hovered around 2 degrees Celsius. Janet assured us the interior would be comfortable inside for our guests and had promised to start the log fire at 9:00 am if it was cold outside. She didn't ignite it until 2:00 pm, an hour before guests started to arrive. The fire had not burned long enough to build up enough heat to radiate out any distance from the fire-pit - it was freezing inside ALL NIGHT! Two woefully-inadequate heaters were placed along one side of the building perimeter adding nothing to raising the interior temperature and the perimeter temperature hovered around 4 - 5 degrees Celsius for the entire event. The smoke generated by the soaking wet wood that was tossed onto the fire was nauseating and thick and some guests left before dinner because the cold and smoke was making them ill. Our guests were uncomfortably cold and wore their coats throughout the duration of the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dance. The smoke was so heavy and pungent inside the tent that it was absorbed into everything...gifts, floral décor, signs, purses, projection screen, tablecloths, runners, clothes, shoes, etc. I have lost thousands of dollars thanks to her extreme neglect! Janet has been holding functions in the donut tent for years and there is no excuse for not accommodating for a drop in the temperature and for not using dry wood. It is just being cheap not starting the fire earlier as promised and not having sufficient perimeter heaters. No written or verbal apology was offered. A small refund of 16% of the contracted service was given only after I outlined the circumstances that were upsetting to all of us. Weather can be inclement and unusually cold in spring, summer & fall in Alberta. Future customers: AVOID AT ALL COSTS! You WILL be deeply saddened and disappointed if you hold an event here!
