The lodge website has a lot of helpful info about the different trailheads, hiking vs. helicopter transportation methods, and staying in the Lodge vs. the Naiset Huts vs. Lake Magog campground. + We backpacked in from the Mt Shark trailhead, stayed at the Lake Magog campground, and took the helicopter back out, but you can choose your own adventure. + Lodge guests have extra benefits (that you pay for) including professionally-cooked meals and running showers with hot & cold water. If you're staying at the campground, you'll be bringing your own food, and prepare to embrace your natural smells... but the campgrounds are well-maintained and not a bad choice either. + If you're not staying at the Lodge, you are typically not allowed to go inside the building or linger on the porch area. AFTERNOON TEA AT THE LODGE // + The Lodge hosts an afternoon tea on all non-helicopter flight days (5x/week) on the front porch, open to everyone regardless of if you're staying at the lodge or not. + They had herbal tea, lemonade, loaf cake slices, beer and apple cider, red and white wine, and soda. + The dry apple cider was cold and very drinkable, but maybe not the smartest choice to stay hydrated. Herbal tea was light and I downed it quickly. + The loaf cakes (sold in packs of 3 slices: one chocolate zucchini, one cranberry, one pumpkin spice) were the only non-drink food item they had and sold out the fastest, so get there at 4pm and grab some on your first go. VIEWS & EXPERIENCE // Worth it? Yes. (I highly recommend hiking up to the Niblet and halfway up the Nublet for incredible views of Mt. Assiniboine, Sunburst Peak, and the lakes.)

From the greeting at the lodge, to the meals, to the fantastic guiding, the team at Assiniboine Lodge provides an experience that I will treasure. The rooms in the lodge are cozy. Our bed was comfortable, the pillow was soft, and the duvet was warm. In the morning, coffee is ready for you before the sun comes up. Giving you time to get your first cup as you wait for the sun to warm the peak of Assiniboine -- providing several thousand photo ops. :^) The early breakfast is served in two courses -- one is self-serve with yogurt, muesli, and fruits. Then they serve a hot breakfast -- like pancakes, bacon and soft-boiled eggs. Best of all, they come around with seconds! Then you pack your lunch, and your guide will take you on the day's hike. We did two hikes -- one with Alex and one with Claude. Both were excellent. They kept the pace aligned to the group, and gave us lots of times to enjoy the scenery. Claude also has plenty of stories and information to keep you entertained. I'm not a "bear person", but I was completely comfortable that we'd be fine if we came across one. Heck, I WANTED to come across one by the time we were done our hike. Ironically, there were several other bear sightings that day, and it seemed they were all within moments of us being nearby. The hike is followed by tea time. Tea, coffee, and fresh baking. You can kick back, share photos with the other hikers and enjoy the food and experience. A bit later, and it is supper time. The chef and her team are amazing. We had an outstanding chicken dish one night, and steak the next The supper is fresh and delicious. Again ... seconds are offered up. Of course, this is followed by dessert. Again, outstanding. Ready for bed? Not yet. The sun sets, the stars come out, and once again you'll find yourself blowing off several hundred pictures. What will I do differently next time I go? I'll get a real camera with a better lens and more storage.

I rented from Mahkbool, he was very informative and made sure they he was always available for contact if I needed him. I loved how clean the space was, the design was modern, yet very homey. Kitchen space by far was my favorite area. Each suite also had their own balcony! Although the #1 thing I loved the most of the entire stay was the black out curtains they have around the suite to ensure no light gets in (I have sensitive eyes so sleeping at new places was/is always a problem). Even morning time still felt dark so waking up wasn't so harsh nor was I disturbed whilst sleeping. The suite also comes with washer and dryer and all the basic necessities were provided (towels, toothpaste, detergent pods, paper towel, etc.). It made staying the long weekend very convenient and easy. Not to mention they're only 1-2 hours away from the main hiking areas of Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. The suite also came with underground parking (code will be provided for garage door) and access to the communal BBQ grill, fitness room and hot tub use (FAVE). The resort overall was also very quiet, which I really liked as well. Definitely would come back to stay here again!

I have been past this area many times, but didn't realize that a large facility was there for events such as this. It's located east of Canmore and is only about an hour drive from downtown Calgary. The buffet dinner was really quite good, compared to some wedding buffets that I've been to! Some of the highlights were the grilled cedar plank salmon and the mediterranean fatoush salad (cucumber, red onion, olives, tomatoes, chick peas and thinly sliced hearts of Romaine in an olive oil and lemon vinaigrette). Where this experience stood apart was with the excellent service that we received. Someone was always around when we needed something, and immediately went above and beyond to make us happy. I was helping decorate the cake in between the ceremony and reception. We had forgotten to take the icing out of the fridge before the ceremony, and I thought we were going to be stuck trying to ice the cake with cold, stiff icing. Instead, the chef jumped in and helped us by heating it in his large industrial sized warmer. Crisis averted!! The staff for the remainder of the evening stopped by each table frequently to see if anything was needed. They did a great job. The room rates weren't cheap but they certainly weren't too outrageous either (~$170 plus tax per night). The rooms were clean and functional, although we didn't spend much time there with all of the wedding festivities that were going on. For guests wanting to save some money (or have a more unique experience), there were also tipis available. Many guests also brought trailers and just camped for the weekend. We had a great time, and I would look forward to attending another wedding at this venue.

Our first week was spent on the British Columbia side of the mountains at Big Horn Meadows, which was nice and we enjoyed our stay there. However it wasn't Banff Gate. I guess all vacations depends on what one wants and expects. If you were a golfer then Big Horn Meadows in the scenic town of Radium Hot Springs (also one of our favorites) would be THE PLACE to stay. However, we are not golfers. We are wildlife enthusiasts. We enjoy nature and the mountains. We enjoy balconies where we can observe wildlife wander through the grounds. All of these we enjoyed at Banff Gate Mountain Resort. Because we have stayed there before we expected wooden cabins. We expected clean accommodations, but nothing fancy. Our cabin this year had a new table & chairs for dinning and the balcony was in tip-top shape. We had no complaints about our cabin, which they call a chalet. We were exceptionally pleased with the staff. We were happy with the pool, which is heated and indoors. We enjoyed the outdoor hot tub on several days. We enjoyed the indoor hot tub everyday! Most days the deer came by feeding on the dandelions. We hoped for a bear on property, but that didn't happen. However, one had been removed two weeks before arrival because he became "too friendly" on the grounds and was removed by authorities 250 KM away. We went in May of this year, which is a perfect time to see wildlife and before the crowds become unbearable in Canmore/Banff!
