Extremely disappointed with both the event we attended and to the manager/owner Ju's confrontational and dismissive manner in resolving my numerous complaints. The cafe advertised a "Paint with Kittens " event at their Kensington location from 1-3. After being requested to line up to receive instructions outside like preschoolers we were finally permitted to our table at 1:35 pm. Our table was crushed into a corner bordered by shelves of ceramics where people were packed in selecting items to paint. It should be noted that the prices for the greenware was exorbitant with a tiny hand held votive being $ 40. Numerous times we were jostled by the patron's attempting to select greenware and was extremely disruptive to our birthday celebration. More importantly, we were each charged $ 15 to attend this event and there were at least 80 people present with some on the lower floor of the premises. An individual arrived at 2 pm and brought two kittens in total and walked from table to table. We spent a total of two minutes with the kittens during which the breeder advised us she was selling each kitten for over a thousand dollars each. JJ, when asked about this in a follow up call stated that she " sometimes" featured animal shelters. It seems that the numerous Calgary shelters could certainly have benefitted from that donation money and in that case I wouldn't have protested a thousand dollars or more going to a worthy cause. This entire event was a cash grab with very overpriced drinks and treats - $ 8 for a chai latte ? $ 40 for a birthday cake that yielded four minuscule slices ? The " paid" parking advertised encompassed 8 parking spots for all of the retailers in the building and had a 30 minute limit. After speaking with JJ to voice my concerns over the individuals who arrived after the event time I requested a refund of the entry fee. These new clients were not paying an entrance fee and were also interacting with the cat breeder and kittens. JJ advised me that I was incorrect which was unbelievable since these people were at the table right beside us. Not the way a dispute should EVER be handled and certainly this company has to look into appropriate disclosure when advertising. A FAIL on so many fronts - AVOID THIS PLACE OF BUSINESS AND NOTE JJ'S response to every complaint where she shames the poster for her company's customer service failure and goes as far as shaming them. read more

genuinely the best service i've ever received EVER. i've been twice, months apart, and on my second visit they remembered my face and asked questions about my first visit. so kind, when they ask how you're doing it feels like they ACTUALLY care!!!! my own father even couldn't do that for me LMAO. on my first visit i had a chai with almond milk - the best i've ever had. and on my second visit a cappuccino with almond milk which was also great! it is a pricey activity to do, but i am more than willing to pay $80 plus tip on occasion to have a seamless and fun experience while dealing with probably the kindest people on the planet. if you're going to paint pottery anywhere in the city it should be here!!! also the music sets such a specific mood.... feels like im in europe and the quality of coffee upholds that. read more

The last time we went, we were charged an automatic gratuity of 30%. We spent over $200 so this tip was $30! I was not told of this ahead of time and at the time of purchase, all the cashier said was "that includes gratuity" before handing me the machine. When I got in the car, I realized she has charged me 30% gratuity. I called that same day for clarification and was told this was their policy for all purchases! I said I thought this was unreasonable. The lady on the phone said I should have been told upon arrival but I was not and I certainly didn't agree to it. There is also no signage indicating this policy. There is a small handmade sign with an animated character and a quip about tips. Which the lady on the phone referred to. This sign was NOT clear and was printed off a printer on paper with another piece of paper taped on top that simply said 30%. It was smaller than a greeting card and was on the wall behind the cashier with other random things. I called two other CMM's in Calgary and neither of them have automatic gratuity. One of them even said they are not permitted to do this. This location has gone downhill as of late but this is too far. My family be travelling the longer distance to the other Color Me Mine's in the city from now on and I suggest others do the same. read more

Spring Break is here, but it's still -10 outside and snowy in Calgary. The kids are antsy to get out of the house so off to Color Me Mine we go for an afternoon of pottery painting fun! I've painted at other pottery places before, but this is my first time at Color Me Mine. I was impressed by the great selection of pottery pieces available and there was so much to choose from that the kids were picking a piece, changing their mind, and then changing it again! They even had licensed character pottery pieces like Snoopy, Peanuts, Hello Kitty, and Monsters Inc! We finally settled on a fairy riding a unicorn piece (Can it get any more girly than that?) and my daughter had so much fun picking out paint colours. The staff working at the Color Me Mine Kensington location was a huge help explaining how to get the most vibrant colour from the paint, how long the whole process takes, and she was came around to change the water frequently. She even showed my daughter the kiln and explained how the whole process worked to fire the pottery. We had a great afternoon and I can't wait to see the finished result! read more

It is not very often that I feel artistically creative. But when ever I do, I get this weird urge to paint pottery. Maybe it is because I've always loved 'Ghost' or maybe it is because it is something that anyone can do at anytime. I decided to go to Colour Me Mine because it is right down the street from my house. The prices were a little higher than I remember paying at other places, but they had a great selection and as always, I decided on a bowl. The owner/working was okay, not super helpful. He seem more distracted in making sure Globefish customers don't in his parking spots. (It is prime real estate don't you know?) When you are painting it would be helpful to get some tips, tricks or some cleaver ideas and we didn't end up getting much of anything. In the end, we were pretty happy with our products. We went back three days later and picked up our bowls. There wasn't anything particularly special about this place, chances are I'll try another pottery place before I return to Colour Me Mine. read more

The staff (and JJ in particular) was helpful and gracious with their time and patience in working with us. We went twice to work on the same project and they made every accommodation possible to help us have a great time. Oh my gosh, this was so much fun. I had never been pottery painting but I've been meaning to try it for ages - so when a friend & I were looking for something to do on a rainy Saturday, we decided to give it a shot! I wasn't sure how it all worked, but the lady working explained everything to us right off the bat. It was fairly quiet, only one other table painting away, and the shelves upon shelves of dishes, figurines, and other ornaments were calling our name! As soon as we set our things down we got to choosing. I ultimately picked a mug and my girlfriend picked a small jewellery box for her daughter. After explaining how everything worked, we picked out our paint colours. So many to choose from! The possibilities are honestly endless. I also liked that there was no limit on anything, you could use whatever you wanted! They also have a wide assortment of stamps, stencils, brushes...pretty much everything you could ever need. I actually forgot how hard it is to be creative and artsy...so it took me a while to decide what I was going to do. There is something soothing about working on an art project, I don't know what it is but we were so relaxed! They had some music going too and it was a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately we were on a bit of a time limit, so we didn't finish our pieces, but we were told that we could bring them back anytime to finish, we just needed to take them home. So that is what we did - and we are planning to return next week! Once you finish your piece, you leave it for them to glaze and dry. It can be pretty pricey (my mug was $35) but that includes all of the supplies, studio fees, and everything from start to finish. It was so much fun, I think this is going to be my new favourite afternoon activity! read more

Colour Me Mine has a lot in common with most other paint-your-own-pottery places. Unless you're quite artistically inclined, you can expect to leave having spent a fair bit of cash on a pretty amateur-looking piece of dishware. But you come for the fun, and the relaxing experience of spending a few hours doing something creative in a pleasant environment, while the staff takes care of the hard part. Like most places of this genre, there's a wide range of items to paint and the pottery pieces are on the expensive side. You'll probably be spending in the range of $35-$40 for your own hand-painted mug after the service fee. Go with a larger item like a tray or teapot or vase, and you could easily shell out $70. If you want to make a date evening of it, expect it to run about the cost of dinner for two at an upscale restaurant. But, like I said, unless you're a real talent, it's about the activity, not the product- if that's what you're looking for, you can find nicer and cheaper plates at Ikea. What I really like about Colour Me Mine in comparison to other similar businesses is their fair and predictable pricing scheme. Unlike many places, Colour Me Mine has a flat service fee instead of an hourly studio fee. This way you don't feel rushed to finish your piece in two hours to avoid having to pay another charge. You can sit the whole afternoon and evening working on your masterpiece. You can even come back to finish if you're not done by the time they close. And they don't limit you to a certain number of colors and then charge you if you want to use more than that, unlike other PYOP places. So overall, I would have to say this makes for the most enjoyable pottery painting experience I've had, as you're free to relax and be creative. It does take a little while to get your piece back (they glaze and fire it for you)- longer than most places I've been to. We were able to pick up our pieces about nine days after painting them. But unless you really need your hokey butter dish in a rush, this isn't really much of an inconvenience. The staff is friendly, cheerful and helpful. There's free coffee and a party room for big groups, and special party packages as well. Fun! read more

My four year old daughter came into the studio on afternoon, and such a wonderful time. The owners were so amazing with getting my little one all set up, leaving her to feel confident she could do it on her own. She has been asking to go back often, which we will be doing for sure! This studio was so accommodating and wonderful to deal with. We had some issues with our payments (due to being prepaid Visa's) and the Manager was so supportive and diligent in getting things sorted for us. Aneshia was exceptional and offered great tips/support. She was patient and offered to stay open an extra half an hour to give our group time to finish. My group was set up for success from the start and I will definitely keep this location top of mind when booking my next group event! read more

This place has a no return policy which makes total sense. However, I hope what happened to me doesn't happen to anyone else. Spent four hours there painting a nice big plate for my grandma's birthday. When I went to pick up a week later, took it to the car and noticed that there was a huge crack in the middle of the plate. They didn't even tell me that when they gave it to me. Ok, I go in and ask what I should do. First response is pointing to the no refund sign and a shrug. My plea follows that this can't be my fault. How did this happen? I'm told, this happens sometimes when plates are in the kiln. What now? Sorry. Nothing we can do. It's not our fault the plate cracked. If we give you your money back, we will be out the cost of the plate. I ask for the manager's name and number. They refuse to give me the name. Just shove a number in my hand. I call the number and in their defense, she was at least sympathetic. Still though refused to give me my money back. Their solution: we will have one of our own painters paint another plate again and you can give that to your grandma. I'm not one who lies and pretends that someone else's painting is my own. They never refunded my money. They have crappy products and when they break, oh well! After all, their the business, they shouldn't lose out on money for the plate! Horrible place. Over all, not impressed. I called 5 days after painting with friend of mine to confirm that our pieces would be ready to pick up that day, they confirmed so I went to the location to get them both (the north location), when I got there only my friends piece was ready. At this point i'm irritated because I specifically called to ask if they would both be ready and this location is pretty far out of my way to go. It's seems pretty unorganized that they would only fire some of the pieces that were done on a certain day and not the others. Doesn't make sense. Anyways, I requested I get a call when my piece is completed now and I got a phone call on the 7th day saying that my piece had issue's and the paint did not seal correctly and was essentially chipping off in about 6 spots on the finished product. They offered to re-paint those particular spots and re-fire it and see if that fixes the issue which I accepted. 5 days later I get a call that it has been re-fired and the issue has not been corrected. To compensate I was offered 20% off a new piece and they will not provide me a refund instead. To be honest, I don't think i'll be back. Not only this bad experience, the colour selection was about half of the fire escape and turn around time is significantly longer. I am not one to typically write a review but I felt I should share my experience. read more

My daughter and I went to Colour Me Mine in Aspen Glen Landing on their customer appreciation day. The staff was very friendly and helped my daughter pick out her pottery and paint. They had a spinning wheel which cost a $5 donation per spin and had numerous prizes to be won. All donations were going towards the Alberta Children's Hospital, which I thought was a great thing. I purchased 2 spins and the first was a free firing fee and then I won a $30 gift certificate from Colour Me Mine. I was very excited that I could use it to come again with my daughter. The girl took my name and email address and indicated they would be emailing me the details on my won gift certificate. I never received anything and when I returned a week later to pick up my pieces I questioned the girl about my gift certificate and she took my name and phone number and informed me that the owner/manager was not in and she would have them contact me. Today (almost 2 weeks later) I called the studio again and this time talked to a man (who I believe was the owner). I was shocked to hear him tell me that my name was not written down for any prize and that I should have received a card at the time to show that I had won a prize and he was not willing to do anything for me. I replied that it was not my fault that his staff did not provide me with anything to claim my prize. He continued to tell me that he could do nothing for me and when I told him I had a receipt showing that I purchased 2 spins he informed me that I would have to come in with all my information to discuss this with him (which is huge inconvenience since I live in the NW and the studio is located in the SW). When I tried to talk more to him about this he informed me that he had many people on hold and calls beeping that he had to take care of and could no longer talk to me anymore about this. His tone was in my opinion very rude and I could not believe the poor customer service I received. I am torn now as I know my daughter loved painting the pottery and I enjoyed my time with her there but I just can not get over how poor their customer service was in this situation.
