two plates with cats on them

genuinely the best service i've ever received EVER. i've been twice, months apart, and on my second visit they remembered my face and asked questions about my first visit. so kind, when they ask how you're doing it feels like they ACTUALLY care!!!! my own father even couldn't do that for me LMAO. on my first visit i had a chai with almond milk - the best i've ever had. and on my second visit a cappuccino with almond milk which was also great! it is a pricey activity to do, but i am more than willing to pay $80 plus tip on occasion to have a seamless and fun experience while dealing with probably the kindest people on the planet. if you're going to paint pottery anywhere in the city it should be here!!! also the music sets such a specific mood.... feels like im in europe and the quality of coffee upholds that.

Spring Break is here, but it's still -10 outside and snowy in Calgary. The kids are antsy to get out of the house so off to Color Me Mine we go for an afternoon of pottery painting fun! I've painted at other pottery places before, but this is my first time at Color Me Mine. I was impressed by the great selection of pottery pieces available and there was so much to choose from that the kids were picking a piece, changing their mind, and then changing it again! They even had licensed character pottery pieces like Snoopy, Peanuts, Hello Kitty, and Monsters Inc! We finally settled on a fairy riding a unicorn piece (Can it get any more girly than that?) and my daughter had so much fun picking out paint colours. The staff working at the Color Me Mine Kensington location was a huge help explaining how to get the most vibrant colour from the paint, how long the whole process takes, and she was came around to change the water frequently. She even showed my daughter the kiln and explained how the whole process worked to fire the pottery. We had a great afternoon and I can't wait to see the finished result!

The staff is arrogant and unprofessional. Their processes & policies are ridiculous and require a knowledge of international systems that they expect a customer to have. We have done a polymer clay class and a ice cream bowl(pottery)class. Both were super enjoyable and their staff were amazing. I found that the small classes they offer are very informative, fun-filled, and affordable. They do 2 for 1 class deals which are such a good price for what you learn and you get to take home the product you make. When I was last there, which was when I did the pottery bowl class with my husband - I was pregnant and I was seriously excited for my baby to come out as soon as possible so she can start growing up and participating in these art classes. That's how much we liked being there! If you are in a rush, but want to do some art stuff at home, you can pop in and grab some of their polymer clay kits which are super cute and easy to make. I definitely recommend 4cats to everyone who is looking for some creative outlet, but dont want to spend a ton of money for in depth art classes.

The only reason I didnt rate 5 stars is because I felt their selection of pre-made pieces to paint was a bit lacking. I think thats because they are trying to get into a "make your own piece then paint it kinda plan" But that didnt helpe me then! The owner was a bit of an odd duck but she is SUPER nice and helpful so thats cool. My girlfriend also really likes her, so bonus points. Its a good place to do crafts

We brought food to snack on and made a big mess, which was lovely. It took me awhile to choose the pottery I wanted to decorate, as they have enough variety to make your decision a bit challenging. They had more than enough tools for me to create what I wanted from an artistic perspective and considering the experience as a whole, I'd say the cost was worth it. There ended up being a flaw in my bowl after they removed it from the kiln, so they actually let me come back and make another one, which I most definitely took advantage of. The bowl was not flawed enough that I didn't want it, so I ended up with two! I wouldn't go back regularly, but it's something I'd recommend you experience at least once. I think it would make for a fun girls outing or date option. If you decide to check it out, I'd suggest you make a reservation.

They where pretty busy with what looked like a kids party and what I could only label as a family with a litter of children. So they didnt spend a lot of time helping me, rightfully assuming that I, as a fully grown adult would need less help and supervision than all the children, this didnt part offend me as much as it did other reviewers. The point is, I had fun hanging out and painting and am looking forward to try the glass melting, but that does seem a little expensive. I would recommend that adults go in the evening when its pretty quiet. Thats when I went the second time and it was very quiet and relaxing, also fun.

Rushed order an item (paying $5 for it) and when we arrived the evening that it should have been done, we were told that is wasn't put in the kiln on time and had to wait additional days, defeating the purpose of rush ordering as the item was needed that night. 2. The main worker (I think only one person works there?) was rude and uninviting, seemed uninterested in providing assistance and in general seemed annoyed with the presence of people. 3. There wasn't any music playing, not a big deal, but when there was it was the same song on repeat. 4. No white bumpy paint. 5. Very overpriced. Tip: some items are hidden in the back of the store.

A staff member called me a month later and told me one plate fused properly but the other one completely cracked in the kiln. And that when I come back I should get a refund for the one that cracked I called back 1 month later and the owner picked up and I asked what would be a good time to pop by to pick up the 1 piece that was fused properly and how getting a refund works for the other piece. He explained that they disposed off the 1 piece that survived as it had been 60 days (no one mentioned they throw out your work after 60 days...it wouldn't hurt to mention that in the phonecall) and he also said he had no record of anything related to the other plate cracking in the kiln and would not give me my money back. That's basically well over $200 gone down the drain. I can understand the 60 day policy of throwing things out, however if they lose/break your work they should keep record of it and give you a refund. I tried to explain the day I went, a little bit about the staff member but the owner said he had no way of knowing so couldn't process a refund.

The shop wasn't busy (we were the only ones there), so we got a tour and explanation of types of ceramic paints and how to paint with it right away. The selection of ceramics were good, but it would have been nice if they had more different sized bowls, and maybe even some crochet yarn bowls as well. We really enjoyed painting our vase and lucky kitty. It took us about an hour or so to paint both items. Their staff is really helpful and attentive, so it made our first attempt in ceramic painting extremely easy and enjoyable. The only thing I was disappointed with was that it will take 2 weeks to get our ceramics back. Overall, we recommend trying out ceramic painting at Artopia. Their helpful staff makes all the difference, especially if it's your first time.
