Today me and my Family went to go to Graeter's as a nice Sunday treat. It was 2:30 PM and the store was closed. Decided to drop in to check out the Westerville Graeter's . I was greeted by Jaylin, he's been working there for around 3 years. I ordered the Love Boat Sundae with Black Raspberry chip and Black Cherry chip. Both had great flavor and huge chunks of chocolate mixed in. Somehow never made it to this one. It was handy today. Street parking in downtown is hit or miss, but there were a few spots on a Friday afternoon. Super friendly and fast service. The seasonal flavors sounded good- peach and banana chip- but we went with old favorites. Well, my mom did- a scoop of coffee- and Baby K did- vanilla with whipped cream, sprinkles, and a cherry. I got a coffee smoothie for convenience and caffeine. It was good- big, refreshing. Mom liked her ice cream- she'd never been to Graeter's before (she's only lived in town for a couple of years.) And the staff gave Baby K a cool face on her sundae, so she liked it even more than usual. Great variety of flavors. Quality ice cream. Nice atmosphere. A bit expensive, but worth it. read more

We typically love Graeter's and have been faithful visitors whenever we are in town visiting family. The past three visits there has been a noticeable odor when you enter that makes the place unappealing. We've had to leave to enjoy our ice cream since and now don't feel comfortable bringing newcomers because the place is just dirty. The floors are sticky and the trash is overflowing. The ice cream is still good, but when you ask for anything special, the service is pretty minimal. My husband asked for peanut butter sauce on his ice cream and they literally took out a jar of Jif peanut butter and spooned it directly on top. We were unimpressed. We may try another location, but won't be back to this one even though it's a fun area to visit. read more

My favorite ice cream! Whenever we visit family in Columbus, we have to stop in for a cone from Graeters! We used to be able to also get their ice cream at home in Miami from Publix, but they stopped carrying it. So, it's become a must-visit item at the top of the list when in Ohio! For me, one of the most important aspects of Graeters is that, with the exception of a few mixed flavors, their ice cream does not contain Corn Syrup, to which I suffer an allergy. So I'm very lucky that one of the few ice creams I actually can enjoy happens to be really delicious also! My favorite flavor is the raspberry chocolate. The mint is darn good too. They use big chunks of dark chocolate... not tiny chips. I know they have other locations, but this is the only one we've been to... it's in a historic building in Westerville. I love this whole downtown area. I know I was at a (local) chain but everything in the area was set up like I was in some small town and everything was privately owned. It was nice. They had a wide selection of flavors, some permanent and others that were limited-run, seasonal flavors. All were good. I tried a flavor before settling on a bourbon butter pecan. The kids got tiny sundaes fit for little people and enjoyed them a great deal. I liked the array of options for ice cream enjoyment. We just went to mass and it was national ice cream day so we made the short drive down main street to Graeter's. We found parking on the street and immediately walked in and really didn't see a line for national ice cream day which surprised us as last year we went to the Graeter's on Bethel and line was out the door. Things moved very quickly as there were a number of employees working and asking if anyone would like a sample of flavor. I ordered my usual at Graeter's a scoop of Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip. I think this Graeter's uses different scoops then the other ones or maybe the girl just had a hard time with the scoop as normally the scoop is very large and homogeneous. Always a fantastic experience! Line is usually out the door, but goes quick! It's so nice to grab a scoop and walk the strip of uptown Westerville. Graeter's never disappoints and the staff is so friendly! I got the Raspberry Sorbet and it was fantastic! We opted to go here after dinner at Barrel & Boar which is right across the street. The place is always pretty busy, it seems the cool thing to do for Westervillians (is that a name??) is to go to Graeters on a Friday or Saturday and hang out and eat ice cream. The place always has plenty of servers and the line, while it may be long, flows through without delay. Their ice cream is a little more expensive than some places but that's because it's the best quality. The last couple of times we've eaten here the place has been kind of hot so I think they may be having some air conditioner troubles but it's not intolerable and, if it's not too hot out, they do have outdoor seating. They also sell some cute ice cream bowls and scoops, we got a really cool scoop last trip here. Highly recommended, but not too often or your doctor will yell at you! :) read more

Worst experience getting ice cream. Never really cared for Graeter's Ice cream to begin with, but my family and I had just had dinner down the street and my 5yo was promised ice cream if she ate her dinner! So, as we stopped into the store, my husband was yelled at by a staff member that he had to put on a mask (he wasn't wearing one due to a health condition). He stated that he couldn't wear one, and then a worker said "you're required by the state to wear them or we won't serve you." After my husband walked back out, my five year old and i proceeded to order our ice cream (I was wearing a mask). As we got up to the cash register I could here two other girls working there talking about my family very rudely and so I told how unprofessional it was to talk about your customers when they are still standing there and can here you! One of the workers then said if I had a problem with it, I could leave- because they weren't doing anything wrong, just enforcing state rules to my husband. I asked to talk to the manager, which turned out to be the girl who was being so rude in the first place. After she continued to be rude and nasty, and then threw out my 5yo daughters ice cream cone right in front of her, and tell us we didn't need to eat there if we had a problem with their attitudes- I asked for the corporate number, which I was then told I could look it up on my own because she wasn't going to give it to me. Wow. The manager specifically was extremely unprofessional and has no business leading a team of teenagers- especially since apparently she was a teenager herself. read more

Irresistible. Graeter's couldn't have found a more fitting slogan if they tried. This has always been my favorite ice cream in Westerville, hands down. With at least four or five other ice cream places within a few blocks, I'll choose Graeter's every time. I've had almost every flavor of ice cream and have yet to find one I don't like. Although, despite how much I love all the other flavors, I still find it nearly impossible to choose anything other than Black Raspberry Chip. Seriously, nothing compares. BONUS: I've also discovered that you're most likely to find the biggest chocolate chunks in this flavor. Really. They're almost the size of a candy bar. Even when the line is out the door and the place is packed (and lets be honest, that's most hot summer nights), the staff is still super friendly and ready to offer samples. The benches outside are the perfect place to enjoy your ice cream. I'm convinced that ice cream was intended to be enjoyed while outside and people watching, so the outside seating creates the ideal ice cream experience. My family and I have been to this location before and have always been treated pleasantly. Until tonight. My wife has a Sweet Rewards card and came to get her birthday sundae. Something she has done before. While she was at the counter and my son and I were sitting down I noticed that she was being treated officiously by the woman at the cashier. Kind of like you'd expect an IRS officer to treat you during an audit. Only this is an ice cream store. While my wife and I - both Sweet Rewards card holders - have always been told that the birthday sundae is given to you the month of your birthday, Alex, the woman who was so officious to my wife said, no, only a week before or after and even showed us the fine print on the computer-- just like an IRS officer explaining a new tax. She insisted we pay for the sundae - even though my wife's birthday is this month - and even said she would take it back and throw it away if we didn't want to pay. We paid. And needless to say, the sundae didn't taste that good. If Graeter's doesn't want to honor the spirit of the Sweet Rewards program then they should scrap the program. Tonight we paid Graeter's Westerville for a sundae that should have have been a free celebratory treat. But wasn't. We won't be coming back. If you want a great Graeter's experience you should check out their other stores. The Westerville one is not friendly and doesn't honor the spirit of the company as I used to know it. While Graeter's has always been a household name in Columbus, I find their ice cream just doesn't satisfy my very high standards. This frozen concoction has a texture that boarders on chewy and many of their flavors are too rich for my palette. However, I am a fan of the Black Raspberry Chip and I find that any other store bought imitation just falls flat compared to the real deal. Graeter's ice cream lends itself to milkshakes more than it does to sundaes or scoops. I'm not a fan of the layout inside of Graeter's. The signs and products are a bit difficult to read, and I feel so disconnected to the ice cream as it is behind the counter and out of eyesight. Seeing the ice cream and drooling over it helps me decide which flavor to indulge in. The staff at this location had a serious lack of customer service. I wasn't greeted upon entry and I don't think a single person smiled at me. read more

This place is off the chain. You absolutely must try the coconut chip ice cream. Simply amazing. I just had a ridiculous dinner with way too much food and I'm getting hungry just thinking about it the ice cream I had 8 hours ago. I also had a wild-cherry phosphate. I know, phosphate...sounds weird right? Or at least it sounded gross to me as I'm a chemistry nerd, but it's basically carbonated water mixed with a syrup topping of your choice--in other words: it's an awesome soda. First off I would like to say that I have been living in Westerville for more than 18 years and there is no ICE CREAM (not frozen yogurt) place in all of Westerville that compares. There is a Dairy Queen 6 or so blocks away that cannot even compare to the quality of ice cream that Graeters provides to its customers. I have been going to Graeters since I could walk and I have tried most all of their flavors from their regular ice cream to their sorbet to their MONSTROUS sundaes. All of it is amazing, I suggest you try all the different flavors. IF YOU ARE A SNOBBY RICH PERSON LOOKING FOR SUPER UNIQUE FANCY FLAVORS THAT HAVE COMBINATIONS OF CAYENNE PEPPER AND ICE CREAM AKA STUPID COMBINATIONS OF STUFF GO ELSE WHERE THIS PLACE AIN'T FOR YOU. The wonderful thing about trying all the different flavors is THAT YOU CAN SAMPLE ANY FLAVOR YOU WANT!!! This feature is amazing and I always try new flavors that I have not had yet as well as their brand new flavors. The unique thing about Graeters is that they have seasonal flavors for EVERY different season. In the fall they usually have an amazing Pumpkin ice cream that tastes like someone mashing up a pumpkin pie into some savory vanilla. In the winter, they usually have a great Peppermint flavor. You get the picture of the vast flavors they have. Graeters is opened up year round and provides a VERY thick and chunky ice cream. Consistently in most all of their chocolate chunk ice creams you will find chunks the size of quarters an amazing treat that always makes my mouth water when thinking about em. SUGGESTIONS: Black Raspberry Chip and the Buckeye Blitz are the consist winners of my heart for getting regular ice cream scoops. I always get my ice cream in a waffle cone and now recently (they added these years back) the chocolate dipped waffle cone. If you still want a waffle cone without all the mess I suggest getting a waffle boat. The sundaes here are amazing and I suggest getting their 1870 Tower sundae which consists of a brownie, a scoop of black raspberry chip ice cream, topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, pecans and a cherry. My brother always tends to get the milkshakes and I believe you can ask for any of the flavors in it? Please do not quote me as I do not know 100%. If sorbets are your thing, I suggest trying a fresh fruit sorbet. I love the Lemon flavor the most, but their Raspberry and Strawberry are still both great (have not tried Mango yet). Graeters does have a wide variety of ice cream cakes and pies and every year I get the Buckeye Blitz pie. This pie is basically a chocolate and peanut butter lovers dream with half of a Reese's around the outside of the pie around the whole pie. As well as ice cream cakes and pies, they sell their ice cream in different size containers from 1/2 pints to 56 ounces. Try Graeters you will never be disappointed that is a guarantee (unless you hate dairy products). read more

If you are looking for your basic "chunk" ice cream (i.e. ice cream filled with bits of brownie, nuts, fudge swirl, etc), then Graeter's is a good place to try. The ice cream itself is creamy and rich, with a smooth and slightly chewy texture. Prices are reasonable for the serving size, and the staff is very friendly. Wanna do a few sample tastes? No problem. This location has a very nostalgic quality to it...it reminds me of the iconic soda fountain, complete with a bar area by the window with a row of shiny red-cushioned stools.
