No sweeter words spoken softly into my ears than: Graeter's Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Seriously, I can eat an abhorrent amount of this stuff. What's worse is that I'm pretty sure I have a lactose intolerance, but I live life dangerously. Try a spoonful (or 20)! read more

It's a funny story on how I discovered this place! I was in Ohio when my friend fed the best dark chocolate ice-cream I had in a long-long time. I raided her fridge to find out the brand name so that I can come back to Chicago and buy a pint all for myself. I did a quick google search and imagine my surprise when I found out that I live 5 miles away from this store! Have been a regular here ever since and have loved their ice-creams and sundaes for their quality and seasonal flavors. The store is located in the heart of downtown Northbrook and there is a beautiful park right across the street. It's offers a great option to relax all by yourself or hang out with friends while enjoying your treat. read more

Melts fast because it's not loaded with preservatives and chemicals (like propylene glycol found in most grocery store ice cream brands and windshield wiper fluids). ‍ each and every bite of my coconut chocolate chip and waffle cone just made me happier and happier. Of course I'm gonna do it again and again. read more

Best ice cream - period - in the north suburbs! Staff works their butts off and move the crowds quickly,so even with long lines the line moves quickly. Make sure you join their frequent ice cream eater program. Currently you get a free cone just for joining. Went in for my "birthday cone" - turns out to be a full sundae"! What more can you ask for! read more

Great ice cream some of the best in town in a cute area but the staff are always a bit rude and its overpriced

Nice place with great ice cream. Unfortunately on my first visit, while I was decided what flavors I would like, the kid behind the counter asked what I would like and smiling I asked for a double scoop cup, I looked back at the menu to make my choice and immediately the kid said in a slow sarcastic tone ' sooooooo whaaaat dooo you want in it????? Very patronizing. Young punk had no manners at all and should not be working with people. I was trying to have a nice date with my wife and I was immediately put off for no reason. Last time I go there. read more

Okay. So I really wanted this to be a 4-star experience. It wasn't, but it doesn't mean the next time won't be. I was soo soo excited for this place to come to the area. I mean REALLLY excited. But, after tonight, I realized that the North Shore has some really great ice cream stops and Graeter's makes it to the standouts, but it's still not the lead standout for me. The ice cream is smooth and creamy and without a doubt of the high-end variety. But, it's pricy for the everynight ice cream stop - especially since I live in a community with some pretty terrific options. We ordered two salted caramel ice cream cones, just the basic cone, and the scoops were generous and wow amazing! Hubby ordered up a low sugar butter pecan in the same basic cone - you would have never known it was low sugar. I opted for the sorbet in a cup. All in all we spent $16. I am not the biggest ice cream fan and have to be in the mood, and tonight was one of those nights. The menu is great, but all the fruitier ice cream varieties I wanted to try all had chocolate chips in them. I wasn't feeling like chocolate so opted for the sorbet. Next time I might end up with salted caramel like the boys had. Service was just okay. It was the end of the day and maybe they were tired, but I had different expectations for a family community. They have a dog's night out, which I think is pretty cool. Bring your dog on the 1st Thursday of the month from 6-9pm and get a free frosty paws. They have lots of cute dog schwag you can purchase. Note: If you're in the mood for Jelly Belly candy, they have a huge selection here. Not sure what the connection is. read more

Most people in Chicagoland are probably not familiar with this fantastic ice cream company (unless you shop frequently at Mariano's). Extremely rich, creamy, and made with high quality ingredients -- you'll definitely taste the difference with any of the flavors you try. It is made using the French Pot method so only 2 gallons are made at a time, although this makes it is a bit more expensive than other places. The chocolate chips are also unique in that melted chocolate is poured into the ice cream, so you'll find irregular sized chips (some that can be quite large) in that the ice cream. Definitely stop by if you're an ice cream afficianado, you'll be glad you did. read more

The ice cream is great, however. If I order it through Uber eats, give the driver the order. Was informed that due to your idiotic policy you won't give orders to drivers without the bags? The driver told me Uber doesn't provide them then canceled my order. I live 4 minutes away. If you refuse to give my order to the delivery guy then don't use uber eats for your business. Guess I'll be ordering elsewhere since I can't get my order delivered. read more

It is certainly a very high-quality ice cream, no doubt. But it's sort of a refined, restrained quality, not like an exuberantly delicious brand such as Chocolate Shoppe. So you can taste a lot of quality but not a lot of flavor, if that makes sense. And of course they take every opportunity to tout their special process--hand-churned in acorn-cap thimbles by noble pixies in the forests of Lorraine. Give me a break. You know where this is going: all of this hauteur makes for very expensive ice cream. Instead of paying $3.50 per single scoop in the shop, you are far better off getting a pint from the grocery store. However, DO NOT go to Whole Foods, where you'll pay in the $8 to $9 range. I've found Graeters pints at Jewel for regular price $4.39 and sale price $3.99. Four bucks is pretty much the top end of my range, but it's worth an occasional splurge at that level to try a couple of flavors. Their mint chocolate chip is particularly fine. So if you're dying for Graeter's, get it at the supermarket. The funny thing to me about this shop is that I came here looking for Jelly Bellys but they had only the small prepackaged bags rather than the bulk dispensers. For some reason I read "Jelly Bellys" and pictured the latter. There are a couple of ice cream shops in the city that feature both, but I was disappointed on this occasion. read more

I am a HUGE ice cream fanatic!!! Name an ice cream shop & I've probably tried it. Out of all of the places I've tried, Graeter's is one of (if not) the best! I first tried it when I was in Ohio and was shocked to see that there was a location in Illinois (I have since seen it sold at grocery stores but can't vouch for the quality as I have yet to purchase it there). I drove an hour just to stop in and have a scoop of the coconut chip. Certainly their chips are what set them apart from any other ice cream shop. Usually when there are chocolate chips in ice cream they're small and, hence, frozen solid. Graeter's, on the other hand, uses chips that are large and melt in your mouth instantly. It's always fun eating their ice cream hoping to stumble upon a massive slab of chocolate! Go grab a scoop! read more

I'm not a huge ice cream person, and rarely go get ice cream unless someone else has suggested it. And usually even then I abstain and watch them eat. But Graeter's is a different story. It's one of the few ice cream places in the country where I'll actually go out of my way to go get a scoop. Their current holiday flavor--Peppermint Stick--is SO GOOD that after having a cone the other day, I actually made another trip over to get a pint of it! And now, all I can think about is that little pint sitting in the freezer... read more

... only took them 35 years to follow me from Cincinnati. I grew up on @graeters and it's refreshing to find them in the town we moved to 6/01/80. The buzz is already out there! Oprah had put her seal of approval on this delicious ice cream. Once you experience the " French Pot method" and taste what Cincinnati has enjoyed since 1870, you too hope they're opening another store in your town. For now, the hour drive is truly justifiable. Give them 6 months and I see more popping up, Naperville by the end of 2016? read more

Just what Northbrook needs...more ice cream shops! We would be more than glad to have any of them in Glencoe, although if given the choice between Northbrook's options I'd choose Graeter's. There was a lot of hype from those I know from Ohio when Graeter's opened their doors (they still seem psyched months later). After indulging in their chocolate ice cream and most recently the blackberry smoothie can see why it's a big deal in Ohio. It's good stuff! My kids went crazy for it too: vanilla for my son and chocolate for my chocoholic daughter (both topped with sprinkles). I found the kids size to be a very generous portion so I'd likely ask them to divide 1 among 2 cups for my kids next time. That is if I could actually get them to agree on the same flavor...right! Summer is rapidly coming to an end and I plan on lots of Graeter's stops before then. However, this is so good I'd even be up for an ice cream stop at Graeter's in the winter. read more

You know that feeling when you meet your soulmate? That is the feeling I had when I had the ice cream here. I thought when it came to ice cream, they all tasted the same. This was not the case!! I had the raspberry chocolate chunk, and let me tell you, it was SO GOOD! I'm not being dramatic. I got it in the pretzel cone (which I wouldn't actually recommend) because it was a bit stale tasting. But other than that, it was a great experience. It's in a great quiet neighborhood next to a park which is very nice. Go on a nice little date here with your man, woman, or your kids! read more

It is just too expensive for ice cream. Baskin and Robins honestly is better, flavor to flavor. The place is attractive, feels gourmet, but really, it is just ice cream, french pot or not. The counter/check out is really disorganized and runs like a train wreck when it is crowded. I am confused by the location planning. There is a B&Rs across the street, and a Yogenfroz, now I think they should put in a DQ and see who lasts the year. Come to think of it, I am just going to DQ. read more

Cincinnati's favorite ice cream since 1868 has finally come to Chicagoland. It's been available in retail stores here for a while, but this is their first ice cream parlor in the state. What makes the product unique is that the ice cream is made in small (2 or 2/12 gallon, depending on who you ask) batches, called French Pot. The downside is, during our order, they had to open two flavors because they ran out. The positive is that it's a high quality premium ice cream, smooth and creamy. It's not cheap. With tax, a 2-scoop pretzel cone runs $6.25. Service was good, people were friendly. It's not the best ice cream in the area; that honor would go to Capannari's in Mount Prospect. But it's worth a visit, because that French Pot method adds a certain... je ne sais quoi. You gotta respect tradition. Oh, whatever you get, try their fresh whipped cream on it! They make that in the store, but the ice cream does travel here from Ohio. read more

Excellent ice cream! Lots of great flavors to choose from. My favorites are Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip and Mint Chocolate Chip. Parking can be challenging on weekend nights. Store is clean, staff is friendly. Better than Ben and Jerry's, in my opinion. And far superior to Baskin Robbins. You pay a bit more for the pint, but it's definitely worth it! read more

To all my dairy free friends . . . Stop by Graeter's for a nice treat! There's a nice assortment of dairy free sorbets to choose from. During our 1st trip to Graeter's in December they had lemon, raspberry and mango sorbets to choose from. I had a two scoop sundae with raspberry and lemon sorbet along with strawberry sauce (with nice size strawberries), pineapple sauce, pecans and almonds. Yummy!!!! The sorbet was nice and creamy and had great flavor! Some sorbets from ice cream shops tend to be hard and have an icy texture. Not at Graeter's. Leslie greeted us when we entered and told us all about Graeter's history. She also was very helpful and gave great dairy free suggestions on what to try. Great customer service! read more

I was there purchasing a chocolate malt and shakes for my wife and in-laws as my elderly father-in-law was just admitted to the hospital and he requested a malt. Walking back to my car, I slipped on some ice and everything went flying. I went back in and told the gentleman (manager ?) what happened and he quickly made the order again. I offered to pay but he refused. Really made my day and really great customer service. And my father-in-law really enjoyed the chocolate malt. Thank you so much. read more

I'm not a big fan of Ohio. I'm definitely not an Ohio State fan, or a fan of Skyline Chili, or of their burning rivers. But Graeters, which also hails from Ohio, is like none of these, and their ice cream is top-notch. Easy parking (at least on the weekend). Plenty of indoor seating, with outdoor benches. And of course, amazing, super smooth ice cream. What's not to love? read more

Hot, humid day? Ice cream is ALWAYS the answer to put a smile on your face! This places isn't just regular ice cream. It is delicious ice cream!!! I was cycling with some friends and they were talking about this place. Yes, when cycling we talk about food...a lot. Anyway, my husband and I had a hankering for ice cream after a hard working Saturday around the house. Plus, we. Found ourselves in Northbrook. A perfect match! The parking can be tricky if really busy, but it is worth it. It is a big store with lots of space to enjoy there or you can take it to go. The service was quick and friendly. They don't mess around! The ice cream....yummy! I had the peanut butter chip and toffee chip in a waffle cone. Creamy and full of flavor. The "chips" are huge chunks of milk chocolate. Quite different. I can't wait to try more! My husband had a vanilla bean shake. He loved it, "Not too sugary". It's a place we will definitely go out of our way to visit. read more

$106 Per Gallon. That's my calculation of how much you're paying for this ice cream. What? You're complaining about how much gas costs? Stop it. The ice cream here is good. Quite good. But it must be laced with something very expensive, because they're quite sparse with it. Wouldn't want to be too generous. I'd estimate that my single scoop cup was about.... 6 ounces. It was a /good/ six ounces--and nice and dense--so you're probably getting more actual ice cream here than some other places. In fact, they need sturdier plastic spoons, because they bend when you try to carve off some of that precious five-dollars-worth. And, honestly, the size of the cup probably doesn't help perceptions--the mediocre serving in the semi-large paper bowl makes it look even smaller. Service was good. They treated kids like they were the reason they were open--and that was nice. If a kid can't enjoy an ice cream shop, you may as well pack it up. Kids are pretty picky, and giving them samples is both generous and memorable for them. They'll drag their parents back again and again! The store is wonderfully decorated. They've clearly spent money on branding, decor, and mood. Signage is nice and clear. But at $106 a gallon, that's the least you'd expect. And it's probably money you could spend in better ways, on other, bigger servings of ice cream. No need to be cheap about it.... read more

I agree with the general consensus on this place. Good ice cream, very high prices and they treat Covid-19 like its nuclear radiation....it's amusing to see how over-the-top their regulations and staffing are related to COVID.....helps pass time while you wait in lines. Reviewers are really hard on the employees, but these poor kids are being asked to perform a gestapo-like function; so cut them some slack. There are also many great places to sit outside in the immediate neighborhood to enjoy your treat. Worth a try if you find yourself in the area.
